VT to interview Freeze (never mind, fooled again by the fake tweeters)

-fake Twitter account deleted-

My only thoughts on this possibility (at the moment) are, if you are deadset against Freeze, from a moral standpoint, what are your thoughts on Mike Vick?

Personally, I believe in second chances if he were to ultimately get the job.

Dang it. They got me again...I gotta stop TKPing and twittering after beers.

My point on Freeze stands though

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

When the person wanting a second chance works for it and makes amends. When did Freeze end his fake evangelist Christian shtick? When has he tried to make amends for his actions? Vick has done a ton to help educate and end dog fighting. Meanwhile Freeze works for a place that covers up rape and punishes rape victims by using school rules about being alone with a person of the opposite sex.

Fuck Biberty!

If you play it, they will win.

Well said, Fireman.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

We better win that game in Lynchburg next year by 100. And the one in Norfolk too...

What Liberty did with regards to the rape cases is reprehensible, but let's not pretend that had anything to do with Freeze, and let's also not pretend like Liberty is the only school in America that covers up rape (VT is not too far removed from some pretty heavy, albeit different on nature, allegations).

The rehabilitation has to start somewhere, Vick signed with Philly like 3 months after getting out of federal penitentiary, if I remember correctly

Anyways, that's all I'm gonna say on it. Freeze not my #1, but I'm not gonna burn my Tech gear of we hired him

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

If we want to rehabilitate Freeze why not just hire Art Briles? He's a better coach. (Obv we shouldn't hire either.)

Might want to edit the post to reflect the fact that it's fake.

Well not to pardon Freeze, but no man knows what goes on in the personal life of another man. For all we know the man truly had an awakening in his home life. He doesn't owe it to society to have to prove it.

Which is why he isn't and shouldn't be charged with a crime, but if he wants a public position (HC is a state employee), of a large P5 football team he does owe, fans, students, faculty and staff, donors, players and potential players all just that.

I nominate 757hokie83 to continue to bring us the best in unsubstantiated and fake coach-hiring news.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Done.

Someone needs to make sure my beer fridge is full, and my phone is charged for twitter access.

Hell, tomorrow night it might be Urban Meyer, the possibilities are endless

"I will not be the next Virginia Tech coach" - Nick Saban

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

This is also fake, Nick Saban hasn't said he won't be the next coach at Virginia Tech. Until he says it rumors are going to continue to fly that Whits been backchannelling to Tuscaloosa.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

So, just to confirm; it is now official that Nick Saban has not been officially ruled out as our next football coach?

AND

You can back this up by the fact that Saban has also not said he is not joining us in Blacksburg?

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

no I'm picking up what you're saying here

official not AND not not

well there you have it guys, we're hiring Schrodinger's Coach

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Absolutely hire Mike Vick

There are wolves and there are sheep, I am the sheep dog

Funny story - I knew 100% from personal sauces Joe Gibbs was coming back mid 2000s to coach Wash and had direct lines to the George Michael Sports Machine and he wouldnt report it. And next nite after it was official he said on air he had the story the nite before but couldnt believe it and didnt report it.

I don't really wanna continue giving life to a dead-on-arrival thread, but since the question was asked...

Michael Vick was not put in a position to be a leader of young men, helping them to build their character; Freeze was.

Mike Vick was (and is) a role model, and that comes with some element of responsibility. He WAS put in a position to be a leader of young men. Being a leader on a sports team does come with responsibility. Even if you're only 18, and haven't grown up yet.

He eventually learned that, and grew up. But nobody in this life gets a complete pass on their effects on others. He paid a heavy price.

Later, he changed his life, and made amends, and I respect that. I think you have to give people credit for doing the heavy lifting.

My only thoughts on this possibility (at the moment) are, if you are deadset against Freeze, from a moral standpoint, what are your thoughts on Mike Vick?

My problem with Freeze isn't that he cheated on his wife - it's that his whole persona was based on arrogance and consistantly reminding everyone that I-am-Holier-than-thou and I-am-a-better-christian-than-thou. You can't be both a preacher, and also the sport's most arrogant coach, and remind everyone of both at every press conference, and then get caught cheating on your wife, and then expect everyone to believe you are a genuine person.

If you are a person of faith, that's cool - Mark Richt and Bob Stoops two examples of extremely religious individuals who are by all accounts wonderful, humble people who care greatly about both molding young men and winning football games.

If you are supremely confident, borderline arrogant, and want to win at all cost while being the smartest, wittiest person in the room, that's cool too. Steve Spurrier might have talked more shit any coach in history of modern CFB. Bobby Bowden could sell water to a whale.

You cannot be both. You cannot claim to be a pious man, driven by faith, but also self-obsessed. AND when you get caught in a lie, you cannot simply 'apologize' then go back to reminding everyone else that you're better than them. I mean, you can, but then you become the most insufferable person on the face of the earth.

What I'm trying to say is that most of us are complex, multi-dimensional people with conflicting opinions. This is not Hugh Freeze. Hugh Freeze might literally be a psychopath. Hugh Freeze's supreme arrogance makes him an asshole, and a caricature of a human being. For this reason, I have no doubt that he will embarrass our school. For that reason, I do not want him as head coach at Virginia Tech.

Circling back to your original question... I could write about how Michael Vick is a product of his environment. I could talk about how Michael Vick allowed his childhood friends to prey on his success and take advantage of him. I could mention that law enforcement wanted 'make an example' of him by giving him the harshest sentence possible in order to use his celebrity status to send a message to others. But, I'm not going to go down any of these rabbit holes because Michael Vick didn't - He took full responsibility for his actions. He didn't minimize them. Instead, he became part of the solution, helping to lobby congress to pass new dog fighting laws, and becoming an advocate for animal rights.

If you can't see the difference between Hugh Freeze and Michael Vick, I don't know what to tell you.

My point was not to say that the Freeze and Vick situations are identical, you know that.

My point was I do believe in second chances. Freeze is not my 1st choice, like I said, I'd prefer it not be him...BUT...if VT did hire him, he came in kept his nose clean, righted the ship with the program, and went above and beyond to rehab his image (which I'm sure Whit would require as a stipulation), I'd be okay.

Vick didn't turn into a model citizen the day he stepped out of the pen and signed with Philly, he's worked on it for years.
