tOSU is making a mockery of Michigan State. 21-0 in the first quarter.

Fire Whit.

Good thing they just gave their coach a $95M 10 year contract.

(add if applicable) /s

Eh, it's not the SEc, they don't fire coaches because of 1 game.

I think you're missing the point.... that's second only to Saban annually and the guy has coached less than 40 total games

(add if applicable) /s

I think it was a bad move, but it's a bad move whether they get blown out by OSU or not.

For sure

(add if applicable) /s

Last I saw it was 42-0 in the 2nd quarter.

"Developmental program"

Clemson showing the world why the slow mesh isn't used more frequently.

There is certainly a set ceiling to the ability of this offense imo. More talent trumps this every time.

(add if applicable) /s

I'm in the Fantasy playoffs with Hartman as my QB. My opponent just got a 66 point head start with Malik Cunningham. This will not end well for me.

Hartman might be turning things around.

I hope so. They may only need 24/28 points to win this game. Seems like they have found some quick hitters. When they deep drop they just can't keep him clean. Wake OL vs Clemson DL has been a ROUGH look for Wake.

Wakes defense isn't exactly great right now. Might have dug too big of a hole but they're finally slowing the line down

(add if applicable) /s

And why the blue chip ratio matters.

This Wake team is about as good as you can possibly be at their talent level (almost exclusively 3 stars), and they might, if they can turn things around, beat the worst Clemson team in 10 years.

Pulling for the cyclones, but other than that no early games piqued my interest.

Wake-Clemson doesn't pique your interest? What more do you want?

Just feels like an inevitable "lil ol Clemson" win.

VB born, class of '14

The great thing is Wake can totally throw this game away and still clinch by beating BC next week. Clemson needs a ton of help to get to Charlotte.

If Clemson makes it to Charlotte I will never forgive Wake or NC State.

Do we cheer for Texas or WVU I'm conflicted I love watching Texas burn but hate WVU

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I almost mentioned this game! I'm partial to Texas burning but might be in the minority

VB born, class of '14

I'm all for Texas burning on this one screw it

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

WVU all the way.

They're cousins, but they're OUR cousins.

Also, Burn, Texas, Burn.

when Will Grier threw the Horns Down in Austin in 2018...part of me darkly thrilled, I can't lie. Burn Texas Burn

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Switching between WF-Clemson and Yale-Harvard, but the Yale-Harvard announcers are all echoey it's hard to watch.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

I know its one game, but Michigan St. needs to really, really consider the terms of the contract that were rumored for Tucker earlier this week. I get that he's doing a great job in year 2, but for the sake of your program please review VT's recent history and knee-jerk reaction contract extensions.

Do people think DJ was simply a bad evaluation as a recruit by Clemson or has he just not developed since he got there because he is pretty poor by their standards.?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

He was the #1 or #2 recruit in the country consensus 5 star I'm pretty sure. He threw for 400 yards against ND last year. There are some issues with their receivers limiting what they can do scheme wise.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Hasn't developed the mental side and is inaccurate. He is an enamored-by-the-tools guy though, so people will give him chances forever.

His accuracy is what's stunning to me he has all the tools but his accuracy is flat out awful at times even this late in the season. I remember being impressed against ND last season but he looks to have developed in no way this year

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Sounds like a beloved Hokie QB from almost a decade ago...

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

This right here is exhibit a of why, even though I think Clawson is an excellent coach, that we need a recruiter if we want to compete for championships. Talent trumps X's and O's always at the college level.

No question.

He's recruiting to Wake, nobody can recruit to Wake

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

True. I mean for all I know he could go somewhere else and be a great recruiter, but he's just never been that person. He definitely gets every ounce out of his players though.

My thing is, he doesn't need to be a great recruiter just a good one and combined with a really good defensive recruiting staff. If he can do this at WF with classes in the 60s, imagine what he could do with bad recruiting at VT (classes in the 40s) or average (high 20s).

His offense is already one of the best in the country, it doesn't really need that much talent. Defense results are more tied to talent level, so raise the defensive talent to top 15-25 and you could start blowing people out.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

I think in many cases, coaches are built for different levels of the sport. It's more about them finding the right fit for their style and abilities.

While that is true, talent without X's and O's will fall apart. Larry Coker won a national title with Butch Davis's team, and even though he maintained top-ten recruiting classes every year he wasn't able to manage the X's and O's and development of the team and he got fired only a few years later for going 6-6.

You definitely need a balance. Larry Coker era Miami is a great example. Another is Maryland now, always recruit well on paper but couldn't coach their way out of a bag. Honestly that's true for Miami now too.

For all its faults, seasons 3-4 of Last Chance U were a particularly interesting experiment in the "jimmies and joes vs xs and os" debate. The football team that was featured had some great recruits but was terribly coached. The first season with them they were okay, they won their conference, but there was the sense they could have done more. The second season with them they were awful and the coach ended up being fired for off the field stupidity.

So long story short... it's both right? Mediocre teams can have good players or good coaching, but it's great teams that have both.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

If I'm a Michigan State fan I'm embarrassed right now. It was likely they would lose, but 42-0 midway in the second? That is unacceptable. Very premature extension for Mel Tucker. They got all caught up over that Michigan win.

The wealth of talent for tOSU is mind-blowing.

Fire Whit.

Current OSUe graduate student watching from the student section. Boy is it nice watching an offense make it look so easy. All eleven players on the field are play makers it's ridiculous

Jesus Christ, Michigan state

there's a particular scene from Trainspotting that summarizes their play so far today. A little too graphic to post here, I think.

I've seen people whine and cry about Michigan State for weeks about their ranking on reddit. People get way too worked up about this stuff when the games remaining will force it to be played out.

But if you've been following those evil advanced analytics, this isn't that shocking (maybe in sheer magnitude), but MSU is terrible against the pass, OSU has a significant talent advantage on defense compared to MSU's offense, and OSU has an elite passing game. I never thought this would be close.

OSU better be ranked 2 in the CFP poll next week. They may even be 1 if they keep playing like this.

Eh they will probably be number 2 but even after this week I bet Bama will still be ahead on SOS (they are WAY ahead so far this season), and currently have the 2nd ranked strength of record.

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."
~*squints eyes in disbelief*

drawing inspiration from nature...

Just getting home and checking the scores .... I wonder how those high $$ donors from Michigan State are feeling right now.

Should feel pretty good, in the Big 10 they pay you to take an ass whooping from OSU.

Informative demonstration of the wake florist developmental program against Clemson right now.

Clemson is having their worst season in a decade and facing a program in its zenith, replete with 5th year seniors on both sides of the ball. Yet they're still dominating on the field and in the stats column.

and seeing WF's WR almost get chased down from behind by a DE...

But but but... player development..?

Yeah, Clemson making it look easy.

Their DT are destroying the WF OL and making the slow mesh implode.

Offensively, their skill players are simply much too fast and agile for WF to handle.

Wake at #10 (in football) is quintessential #GOACC

Wake has been a bit of smoke and mirrors all year.

Their D can't stop anybody and has been ranked in the 100's. That's just not a characteristic of a Top 10 team.

They've also helped Clemson out with 2 Turnovers deep in their own territory but they simply don't have answers for Clemson's athletes.

Yeesh... Charleston Southern just scored... that's going to give the selection committee a lot to think about next week when it comes to the new #1 in the CFP rankings.

So is Brennan Armstrong bak?

Virginia's season depends on it vs Pitt and VT.

Bold strategy Pitt play dirty as hell and they're gonna take some shots at him if I had to guess

Edit: First snap and they have a sack on Armstrong already

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

As UVA benefits from an incidental targeting call.

Pitt loses their best tackler, UVa not even close to actually getting hurt.

There was nothing incidental about it.

Contact 100% to the receiver's head, that's exactly the kind of hit that should be removed from the game.

What I'm saying is that it wasn't an intentional ramming with his head.

Sure, his head made contact. But I didn't see any intent to cause damage with the crown of the helmet in that play, which is what that penalty is designed to prevent.

So now UVa gets the full benefit of one of Pitt's best players being eliminated.

He dropped his pads and made forcible contact directly into the face mask of the receiver who was already in the grasp of another defender.

It doesn't get much more open and shut than that.

Didn't look too bad to me. I'm not going to rewind and look at it, I'm not going to argue it further.

The ultimate result is that UVa gets a nice game advantage out of it.

Just need Wake and NC State to take care of business next week, and both weeks, respectively, so Clemson doesn't get to walk ass backwards into the ACCCG. At least spare us from that nightmare.

Wake looking like a bit of a pretender this week.

"Developmental programs" are always pretenders.

Why though?

VT getting better is completely independent of anything Clemson does or does not do.

Yeah, if VT is out, let the best team win.

Because fuck Clemson, that's why. /s(?)

To each their own I guess but I'm not really in to the meth-addled furry kink.

That tiger has seen things, man.

seeing Armstrong diving

Lol, this is my best case scenario. UVA beats Pitt in a brutal slugfest (maybe even multi-OT) and Brennan aggravates the injury just enough that he can't go next week. But then he's fine after that, I'm not rooting for a kid to get hurt. Don't need that karma...

Iowa State losing a close one to Oklahoma.
Yale losing a close one to Harvard.
Penn State winning.
UVa winning ...

Man this day ____-ing sucks.

you know we want need UVA to win, right?

Coastal Chaosβ„’ sucks sometimes, man...

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I am rooting for UVA. Switched from beer to a glass of cab sauv for this fourth quarter, put on a quick DMB song for good measure.

This should be a field day for Armstrong. No one hates their DB's more than Narduzzi.

Fire Whit.

Sort of infuriates me that UVa gets a Brennan-Wicks.

Mostly because I'm envious that we don't have that.

My goodness, it would be perfect if Narduzzi Pitts the bed today and next week.

Only if VT wins out. There is no perfection that includes UVa making it to the ACC Championship.

Am I missing something or is there a law in Nebraska requiring any starting cornhusker qb to be a Martinez?

No, you've just been watching Adrienne Martinez start for about ten years now.

It's bringing me great joy hearing the announcers act like Kenny Pickett is the second coming, while not even mentioning Armstrong in the same breath. I can only imagine the salty hoo tears.

Fire Whit.

Went out to mulch the leaves at halftime of the first game. I imagine that Mel Tucker was in the locker room docusigning something at the same time.

And dang its a day of blowouts. PSU 28-0 over Rutgers, OSU blowing out MSU, ND up 45-0 over GT in the first half.

Texas sucks. FSU over BC. Not a terrible day so far.

UVa is playing a surprisingly dirty game right now. Seeing a lot of pretty shady stuff in this one

Armstrong can really sling it but he has one of the ugliest throwing motions

No way I could ever root for UVA. Go Pitt.

To quote the Brothers Osborne: "I'm Good For Some But I'm Not For Everyone"

Bama is paying the refs, man there were some questionable calls on the last drive and Arkansas still scored. Go Hogs

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Meanwhile Napier and the Cajuns with a special teams TD. Looking like the much better team 21-0

(add if applicable) /s

So is Whit at this game to schmooze Napier? Or is Whit in Miami?

What the hell was that?

Bronco doing Bronco things.

And...

Narduzzi makes the gutsy call. Pickett makes good on it.

Canes are beating the Kings 5-4 through 2. Defense is apparently optional today

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Wuck the Fahoos.

I just can't bring myself to root for loluva.

Also, their defense is so damn bad. We may be able to move the ball on them. It might come down to how well our defense can stop that red headed quarterback.

One nitpick with Napier - dude goes for it on fourth way too much. I can understand going for it in certain situations, but he's a little too reckless with it. You take the three there just now and go up three scores.

Picket in the tent! Whoa....

never mind....

ugh, i feel so dirty cheering for UVA... now having to hope they come back...

It's honestly not worth rooting for UVA. That leads to the possibility of a coastal crown for them and I will not root for anything that helps them get there

Exactly.

The cost is just too damned high. Better not to lay down with Wahoos. You wake up smelling like seaweed.

Sh*tty no-call for Nebraska at the end. Frost not happy. His security detail (?) is quite busy.

Nebraska Wisconsin should have gone down to the final play.

A terrible no-call PI screwed NU. Tough to lose like that

Pitt's going to get the win, and they deserve the win.

Good throw by Pickett, great catch by Addison.

Can I get an oooohhhh you almost had it meme on that almost interception by the boo hoos?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Why would you not take the 3 points of the 10 you need?

Because you're Bronco.

Even Mike London kicks the field goal there. lol

Stick a pin in the blowfish. They're done.

Utah up bunches at the half against Oregon.

28-0 at the half Oregon is about to make the cincys day

Committee will still find someone else to slot in at #4.

My thought is- they'll give them 4 this week, somebody leapfrogs them next.

USCe up 21-17 with the ball and 2:40 left in the game.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Shane has USCe bowl eligible in his first year.

With Oregon losing does this mean we finally get Cincinnati in the top 4?

Yeah. Until the winner of Bedlam leapfrogs them.

There's at least a 75% chance that Bedlam gets played twice this year.

Nah, the poll voters will have Notre Dame leapfrog over Cincy. I mean those early season games don't count.

Mostly /s.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

Nope, Michigan will be #4 this week, then the winner of Bedlam next week, and then ND if the committee has an unfortunate setback on conference championship week.

3-8 Nebraska just opened as 3.5 point favorites to #17 Iowa.

Gotta feel for Nebraska being so close but so painfully far from being good. Martinez is getting slaughtered and throwing awful passes as a result
