What Quinn accomplished at Savannah State is truly incredible. Man is a ball coach. https://t.co/F9vovb49km— FootballScoop (@FootballScoop) December 1, 2021
Head coach at HBCU Savannah State, was a GA at Tennessee during their glory period. Savannah State had a great defense and he is focused on defense. His role has not been discussed.

I'm interested to see where Pry slots him. More on him from Savannah State: https://ssuathletics.com/staff-directory/shawn-quinn/162.
Good hire as a position coach. Clearly strong from an X's and O's standpoint and a ton of experience within our recruiting footprint.
As a DC? Ehhhhhhhh.
Copying from my own post in the Coordinator, position coach, and support staff search thread (emphasis mine):
So i'm going to go out on a limb here and project he's going to be the LB coach.
That'd be nice but what does that mean for Tyler? I'm assuming he's probably out but I thought that the fans on this site generally thought he was good.
Perhaps not all on Tyler but my untrained eye can't remember a year with worse LB play than 2021
Last year was rough, too.
Very true. 2020 was worse. I was trying to focus more on this year due to COVID and the new coach/scheme being installed. This year the defense as a whole improved from 2020 but I'm not sure the LB play did.
This looks to be a young, energetic staff that has accomplished a lot in their careers. Really excited about VT football again!
Interesting
firstsecond hire.Second hire. The Price was too good to pass up his first hire.
The Price was right?
Take your leg
I'm suspect due to this.
Cheese consumption is a very big red flag.
Pretty sure that means the entire world population is a red flag to you.
you would be appalled at my 2 year olds favorite thing to eat
For what it's worth, the first word other than mom/dad/mommy/daddy that I remember hearing from my daughter was "cheese". She was a huge fan of it too. Still likes it a lot now.
2.5 year old and is obsessed with string cheese
Gino's North FTW
Mmmmm, Lou Malnatis has my deep dish heart secured
The cheese on the bottom is what does it for me. It's just illogical
My wife is from Chicago, and we go to lou's on trips there. She also gets it delivered here. Call it what you want- pizza, lasagna, or other- this is some good stuff
A good Hokie buddy of mine from the N. Shore quickly made me a fan of The Village restaurant in the loop. Some of the best Italian cuisine I've tried anywhere
Nope. Peaquods is the best by far
"Cheese, tomato, and pepperoni soup in a bread bowl."
Looks like a fine casserole.
Not liking cheese is god damn flare gun of a red flag. just saying
If by "flare gun" you mean AC130, I agree!
I'll admit I was team French all the way until his anti-cheese rhetoric.
Edit: Probably believes in Santa, Unicorns, and CornFu offenses that score 40 points a game.
Me thinks you should've left out your last sentence. You know, guidelines.
My cheese got a little heated. Lol
As 94VTENG said, remove that last sentence buddy. No politics, even if you think it's a joke.
Edited...apologies. Cheese slipped off my cracker.
Thank you!
I hate when I'm too late and only get to see the edits!
I am using all my strength to not respond about cheese consumption of communist countries.
Cheese in moderation is fine, but why is everything being smothered in cheese? It's oversized on way too much.
Cause it's fucking delicious
Went to a local burger place they are selling a burger that they dip in cheese right before bringing out, WHY!! An entire burger and bun.
See above
I'm with you. I like cheese, but not when it overpowered everything else in the dish. If I think it's going to be over-cheesed, I order it with light on the cheese.
I didn't choose the cheese-free life, it chose me. But I'll side with you on this, French
It does say he is a Chicago native....
It's not pizza and Jon Stewart agrees.
Jon Stewart wrong yet again.
Casserole not pizza!
Tomato soup in a bread bowl.
Well at least we have established he is team pie
lasagna with a cracker on the bottom
So now we have 3 guys on staff, 2 of them have head coaching experience and the 1 which isn't is our head coach.
Not gonna lie, reminds me a little bit of Young understanding his biggest weakness was recruiting so he surrounded himself with a bunch of elite recruiters.
So far, so good.
There's an OC walking around without a job that has HC experience that I think we can pull: Paul Johnson
My knees hurt just reading that name
I'm adding the /s in your signature. It's more than applicable.
This was the same reaction I had as I typed that
this gif is absolutely epic
she must be drinking iced tea
has to be unsweetened ice tea
Thats one way to get an efficiently effective offense in Blacksburg
Win that TOP and we win the game!
I physically recoiled reading that.
Unfortunate timing Savannah State.
Sitting around waiting on an offensive hire like...
So far he's 2 for 2 on defensive side of the ball. Hope we know more after the presser.
Price is a good retention, but Quinn is an incomplete from me until I know his role. LB coach is good, DC would be questionable.
I know, right? He's officially been our coach for almost 24 hours!
In his first year as the head coach at Savannah St, he led them to a 7-3 record. That was their first winning season since 1998. They were 2-8 the previous season.
In 2021 they were 8-2. In four games they gave up 6 or fewer points. The two losses were blowouts but I don't know enough about FCS football to say whether those two losses were unexpected.
They also dropped divisions.
Historically, the best that Savannah State has ever been is mediocre, no matter the division.
Awesome as a LB coach hire. "Wait and see" if he's named DC, IMO. With having HC experience (and by all account succeeding), moving from D2 HC to P5 non-coordinator role would be a little surprising, so I'm betting he's going to be the DC. Can't seem to find a listing of his salary at Savannah State, so can't begin to guess which position he's hired for based on salary differential.
90k.
So he could just be moving for a LB coach salary of $300-500k and to get back to P5.
I knew D2 didn't pay a whole lot, but didn't know it was that low.
Is he really gonna make that much as a position coach?
Tyler was underpaid, relative to other LB coaches with his 150k salary
I didn't realize Shibest and Teerlinck were banking as much as they were:
Name | Annual Compensation | 2021 Reduced Compensation
Brad Cornelsen $490,000 $441,000
Justin Hamilton $600,000 $540,000
Ben Hilgart $280,000 $252,000
Adam Lechtenberg $275,000 $247,500
J.C. Price $275,000 $247,500
James Shibest $475,000 $427,500
Ryan Smith $275,000 $247,500
Bill Teerlinck $400,000 $360,000
Jack Tyler $150,000 $135,000
Vance Vice $300,000 $270,000
Jafar Williams $280,000 $252,000
Shibest gets a bump for being ST coordinator and having a lot of P5 experience
Teerlinck gets a bump for having to be lured from the NFL
Might be a bit high, but $225k+ is reasonable for a P5 LB coach with his experience.
That seems a little low if we want to higher top 25 coaches.
If we snag some good P5 assistants I am good with paying them but they should have some track record in the P5 or great track record in the G5 to get paid top dollar. I am all for this guy but he should be around the $225k to start, not $400k...
Would have figured more for a HC. Thanks for the info. Doubtful he's getting the DC position based on that. Figured whoever is going to be DC is going to have more recruiting juice.
Savannah St is one of the poorest HBCUs and subsequently D1/D2 college athletic department in the country. This is the school several years ago that took an 80-0 beating for a couple mil, followed that up by cancelling a conference game for another 80-0 beating in the same season.
Far removed from the Shannon Sharpe days.
Seeing a lot of Whit bashing on other sites/forums. These people are idiots IMO.
Yeah 247 is ridiculous right now...
right now?
Good point...
Sometimes I think that 247 is where all the people deemed to crazy to be on Facebook have congregated. Every time I go over there, the constant flood of negativity and vitriol directed at every aspect of the school, and especially Whit, is off the charts.
I mean seriously, if some people thought it was bad here, just direct them over to 247 for an afternoon. This place on its worst day is better than over there on their best.
So much for "patient fan base"...
We have some fans that are real window lickers
Okay but the snozzberries taste like snozzberries
There's no such thing as a snozzberry.
But there's definitely window lickers in the fan base
window lickers, glue eaters, cheese haters...we've covered the gamut
I'd say this definition is accurate...
So that's why Bronco stopped by the neighborhood produce stand and asked for 3 pounds of snozzberries
I just read this earlier and now I can't unlearn what I just learned.
I also realized that I misquoted the movie. 😄
Meow you forced me to post this
Of all the things I've ever seen, the first time I saw this scene I laughed at it harder than I've ever laughed at any other movie or tv show joke. I still think it's funny but damn there's nothing like the first time.
For me, it was this scene:
*WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE*
Prioleau appears to be staying on staff as well according to Mike McDaniel

It's quite amusing that of the several thousand names thrown about on VT message boards for staff hires, the very first guy off Pry's board was not one of them.
Most people on the Internet don't have a clue about what they are talking about. This site is not excluded from that.
HEY! I resemble that remark
So do I but I don't profess to have a clue how any of this coach search stuff is going to go either. The only time recently that I thought I knew what I was talking about was Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC. I thought "There is no way. This is the dumbest idea possible." Turns out it was a dumb idea and it happened any way.
I'm pretty sure at some point on Monday I thought "There is no way Brian Kelly is going to LSU."
To be fair we haven't had much experience with coaching searches in the last 30 years or so.
Hmmm...I hadn't considered that.
Most of us, on a thread like this:
This is a really underrated part of the Ventura movies. The literal talking out your ass move.
