I started listening to them when I cut Comcast and didn't want to pay for the extra ESPN channels on Sling (and then ACCN came along and further reduced the games I could get.) I much prefer their broadcast to most of the ESPN announcers, but for games I can catch on TV, I just listen to the ESPN feed.

This is really my first year listening to Laze at all due to hoopla with regional games and espn blackouts. He's ridiculously good at what he does. I just need to find a way to overlay him on the TV broadcast so I don't have to listen to the (generally) bad ESPN/ACCN announcers.

Learfield IMG - the radio broadcast partner has got you covered. I've never used it to know/understand how good it is but they've got instructions on how to sync to your local broadcaster here:
It's not the same thing, but for other situations, Tunity is also a great app. You can use the app to listen to any muted TV on your headphones. I've used this at Thanksgiving when there is a game on, but my MIL insists that it stay muted. I pop in one of my airpods and I'm back in business. I've also used it at bars, hotels, airports, etc.

I would be okay with some sort of format switch where you get a Burnop/Laaser type rep for each school doing the color commentary. Right now it just seems like the format is whatever scrub the network can throw up there, who more often than not doesn't give a damn about either team or worse clearly only googled our opponent on the uber ride over to the booth and pronounces "Hokies" "Hulkies" or some nonsense.

I think Laze is one of the best sports interviewers in the business. He clearly knows his stuff and does his research - and asks questions which simultaneously doesn't go over the head of the very casual fan yet doesn't insult the intelligence of the interviewee (...er, think Buzz) and the more knowledgable fan.
He's one of the very people in a largely paint-by-numbers business where afterward I find I usually learned something I didn't know or hadn't considered.
As a broadcaster, I just wish he'd dial back the "radio-guy" caricature affect and just use his natural voice. Otherwise I think he does a really good job.

I know he wasn't the preferred hire of a lot of people, and I did not know much about him before the last few days, but I am now pretty much 100% convinced he was the right choice. Its important to "get" what Virginia Tech is and what makes it special. You need to know that to be able to recruit here, who we are and what we are all about.
I really hope he has all the success and can lead us back to prominence. Time will tell on that, but at a minimum this guy checks all the boxes on understanding who we are and what we are all about, which the last hire clearly did not.

Him being able to go a recruit and his family to say he left his best friend and an amazing situation specifically for this job because of what VT is will be a good selling point. I don't think Fuente could have said that and had someone fully believe him.

Damn, I'm so excited and pumped up about this hire......and the future of VT football with him at the helm!!!! This hire just has a much different feel to me than the CJF hire did.

Whit took a shot on an up and comer with Fuente. It didn't work and that is okay. He went back and found someone with the desire to be here rather than someone who wants to make it big.

Looks like Laze was getting choked up a bit talking about CBP's father and his journey. I know Laaser lost his father fairly recently. These interviews the past few days have really gotten emotional and I love that love has been brought back into this program.

I've been sitting here trying to think of who it is that CBP reminds me of and I couldn't put my finger on it. Then it hit me, he loosely reminds me of Jeff Saturday (skinny analyst Saturday, not huge NFL Center Saturday)

If you've ever watched the show "Alone" on History channel, he CBP sounds a lot like the season 7 winner, Roland. When CBP says, "Lot of history in this tunnel" in the intro video VT released, it sound EXACTLY like Roland.

You can tell at times that he's not fully comfortable with the spotlight, but warms up as things go on. The other thing looks like this setting is kind of uncomfortable because he looks like he want to look Laze and Burnop in the eyes when he's talking to them and not the necessary, but kind of uncomfortable setup they have there. If his squads shape up like his press has, we're in for a treat.

TIL, Mike Burnop played at VT. I had no idea.
Burnop still holds the VT TE record for receptions in a season with 46 set in 1971.
And what's even more interesting is that 46 receptions was the overall VT record (TE + WR) until 2002 when Ernest Wilford caught 53.

I always thought that was for broadcasting excellence - not necessarily on field excellence.
