Yeah.. the Doom and Gloomers who seemed to take over the boards over there the last couple of years were quite annoying. While I enjoy the content Will and Chris produce over there, I won't be on those archaic message boards. So if anyone on The Lounge starts asking tax questions of ol' Hokie CPA, they're gonna be waiting a long time for an answer! LOL

What I appreciate about TKP is when a couple people start down the road of darkness there are a majority of people that steer them back with logic and actual facts.

As someone who used to visit TSL religiously, its a shame what it has become. Will and Chris do a decent job with things, but the mood over there is horrible. Most posters come across as high school aged doom and gloomers with no perspective. The new vBulletin sucked, but more than anything it was the community that drove me away. I love TKP and the insightful, realistic, mostly positive posters.

Selection bias is a fascinating thing isn't it? What drove me away in general from there was the Pollyanna, "trust the coaches"/"question anything and you're not a true hokie" bullies over there.
The difference over here is that most of the people use facts and logic to support their positions be they "positive" or "negative."
I think for the most part people treat each other with respect regardless of their opinion, and that's the difference.

I started in here more regularly about a month ago when it became clear that TSL was getting rid of the vB boards. There was no chance in hell I was going back to those old TSL boards.
So, their loss is your...much bigger loss.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
In the span of 2 years they went from begging everyone on there to switch to vBulletin to now completely scrapping the concept because they lost too many members the first time around. If they think all these people are going to suddenly flock back, they're out of their minds.
TSL is a case study in how to completely decimate a loyal user base in the span of 2 years. Will Stewart and Chris Coleman will be looking for new work within a year at this rate, and they've only done it to themselves.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Will and Chris seem like great guys, but I believe you will be correct sooner or later. It's hard to take the site seriously when they stated they had to switch to vBulletin because of programming issues with the old format and that there was nothing that could be done to change that, yet they're now back to the old format. vBulletin had many advantages for those who adapted (especially wrt smartphone/tablet viewing), but the quality of the posters dimished to nearly unbearable levels and once they reintroduced the old format I was done for good.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Oh god yeah. Their chat boards are horrendous for smartphones and tablets. I'm done over there. I MIGHT go back once or twice, but this move is just stupid.
You don't beg on your hands and knees for people to adopt to a completely new format because their current one was supposedly completely unsupportable going forward, and then within 24 months thank those loyal followers by giving them the finger and abandoning the new and better formatting because too many people were adamantly against switching.
As a former subscriber and frequent commenter over there, I'm done. They've used up their last strike as far as I'm concerned.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If they would have enforced the "Reply with Quote", vBulletin would have been more usable even if some people were still using the threaded view. However, they tried to be half pregnant and keep both threaded views and vBulletin views and it didn't work well. They should have committed to vBulletin and stuck with it. Once they added the chat boards back, I knew it was a matter of time. I didn't renew my subscription which expired this week as a result. Was so glad to find this site.

The Chat is what TheSabre was based upon and currently holds.
vBulletin was a threaded view that allowed you to view an entire conversation without having to click on each and every damn comment. Will & Chris lost a LOT of money on advertising when they switched. People left, and they saw a click decrease by an absurd number because they were used to gaming the system with their archane formatting. So now they're going for the desperate grab to get it back. All this is going to do is drive MORE of their posters away. Stupid.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I always figured advertising was the reason a lot of sites still use the boards where you have to click to view each post in a thread. It takes 1 click and turns it into 20....

The main thing I appreciate about this board (other than it being ALL THINGS FULLERS/SAM ROGERS/FOSTERBALL/HOKIES) is that you don't have to subscribe (pay) to become a member.

I believe what I said was $20 would go towards site content. Then I used the $20 to buy Popeye's and I'm thinking about maybe writing something, so you can't say that I LIED to you, exactly.

No prob! I wonder just how many refugees have come/will come as a result of vbulletin closing. A day on these boards is like switching from a flip phone to an iPhone. Night and day, I love it!

I am coming over under a different handle. Tired of the negativity on TSL. You post something and get a beat down by the people who are on the site 24/7. Makes people not want to post. It's like internet bullying.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Completely agree. There are far too many cliques and inside jokes over there, and its not only allowed but encouraged by the admins.
And you're right, its constant beat-downs over anyone who has an opinion that differs from the TSL 'norm'. The admins said they wanted to crack down on personal insults, but then allow certain people over there to continually egg others on and begin flame wars that drag out constantly and devolve conversations into trollwars. Instead of trying to build toward the future and grow their user base, they catered to a select few who have been with them since the HokieCentral days. Well thats nice and all, but their revenue streams will eventually wither up, and the site will die off while sites like this continue to grow and expand.

People here occasionally fly off the handle, but the community moderates itself well. Most dangerous topics are: (1) anything after a loss, (2) Beamer leaving/being past his prime, etc. Things just get too divisive and we suffered through enough of those repeat threads during the season.
If anyone here posts insulting stuff, it gets downvoted, and with enough of those the comment gets blurred out and/or the user gets banned. Enjoy your time here on TKP, you TSL refugees!

Oh, don't worry, we have our fair share of inside jokes too.
Just wait til the first time you hear about pussy touchdowns, and the fact that they must not be denied.
We also have our own Horse on a Treadmill.
But, while we have the occasional troll, and sometimes get little flame skirmishes in the aftermath of a particularly ugly loss, I think you'll find that TKP is a mostly hospitable place to discuss anything and everything Hokie, and even the occasional off-topic thing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yes, we have a horse...on a treadmill...thanks for the bump, macraw, I've been non-internetting for a while, glad to be back.
Welcome to all the new farm animals! You'll find me out in the pasture most of the time until Equine grad school is complete or until a football season starts up, then I trot up and say mostly incoherent things.
We do get some skirmishes around here, some good-natured and some not so, but by and large we're a good herd.
For starters, you'll need to choose your favorite dessert (one of the friendly debates). Cake (which is good) and pie (which is better) represents our Mason-Dixon line, although some cookie fans have been known to make their voices heard. By and large, if you like any uniforms besides #allMaroonEverything you may find yourself fighting some lonely battles.
Joe runs the site, and will kick you off if you give him any guff (not really, but kinda), french and Mason handle the football. You'll run across a few stalwarts of Hokie fandom like VTPhreak and BeerControlOffense from time to time. JasonInArlington may be out of whack, but he's in the barn. At least someone took his name, might be him.
TKP has been described as 'a place so reasonable that it is hard to believe it is actually on the internet'. I think someone somewhere said this at some point. Also, the place where you can get VTScoop's pictures without their branding (not really, there was a thing at one point, but cite your source and give credit where it's due, which I totally couldn't earlier in this paragraph).
You'll see that we like joking about converting tight ends to quarterbacks and Mark Leal has a following (one of the debates that, eh, isn't always good-natured). Sam Rogers is our Chuck Norris. Bud Foster is our saint (and a drink, half Fosters and half Budweiser). Bourbon might be the pseudo-official liquor. Fire Beamer doesn't fly but honest and dispassionate evaluation of him does. We create a lot of memes, and there is an AV Club that includes BillDozer, you've probably seen his work around the internet, but you wouldn't know it by the results of the athletic department fan video voting last year.
Trolls don't last long. Friendly members of other fan bases do. We don't really trust ESPN or BleacherReport. We love Mama Fuller, TimeCop, and making fun of UVA. We don't like chop blocks, UVA, or UVA. Keep calm and Sam Rogers and you'll be fine. Glad to have you.

New to the site. The TSL switch annoyed me. I don't know how they could abandon the vBulletin format. I hate having to click on a link to see what each person has to say.
I'll continue to visit the site every now and then for some of the content, but I won't be visiting the message board all that often.

Hello, New member here... Was a long time subscriber to TSL but infrequent poster. I became frustrated with the old/new format there. I prefer the VB format but it was readily apparent that they preferred the chat style as that is where Will and Chris posted. As well, I answered there call when they begged in Dec. 2012 for subscribers to step up to annual plan. Wanted to continue to support that site but as others have said, the negativity is rampant. Combine that with the lack of direction and i am done. Cancelled yesterday.
Anyway, I am glad to have found a new VT forum!

Welcome! All Hokies are a good addition to the community.
But I admit that I am worried that TKP threads will devolve into
which is how I normally viewed most discussions on the TSL boards. No insult intended with that. Just my personal experience on TSL.

Agreed. This community does a great job of self moderating!
I just deleted my subscription to Techsideline. I got so sick of all the negativity. I am excited about being a member on here!
Not gonna lie, i freaked out at first when I saw your comment because I thought my profile got hacked. Nice avatar
TSL's vBulletin board sucked. So, I view this as a good thing for TSL and TKP.
By the way you have the best user name and avatar. My favorite Simpsons episode.
hashtag thanks.
Welcome Refugees

Ah TSL, we'll miss you and your ten thousand threads about why we should fire Beamer.
[BIG TIME sarcastica]

welcome to the best fan site ever. Things are amazing here.
For all you new citizens of TKP, yes Turkey Legs are redeemable for hard currency.
How do you get Turkey Legs?
Well.
At Lane Stadium there is this guy, see. He has a smoker.....
...and by purchasing real turkey legs and delivering them to TKP members, you receive virtual turkey legs.
Said virtual turkey legs are redeemable at Lane Stadium from the guy with the smoker for cash. You can then use that cash to buy more legs.
http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2013/july/24/community-guidelines
Thanks!
1. Find turkey
2. Acquire turkey leg (protip: there are 2 per turkey)
Welcome to the greatest site. Ever.
Seriously.
If you are new here, do a couple of things:
Review the community guidelines: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2013/july/24/community-guidelines
Get an avatar by clicking "PROFILE" at the top of the page.
If you know of any other Hokies who provide insightful and objective insights that enjoy talking on the Internet to other Hokies, tell them about the website. (Actually, new or current members, it would be appreciated.)

And don't act like you did on TSL.
welcome guys
The main thing I appreciate about this board (other than it being ALL THINGS FULLERS/SAM ROGERS/FOSTERBALL/HOKIES) is that you don't have to subscribe (pay) to become a member.
Wait we don't? Ah dammit, that guy in the alley lied to me...and took $20 from me.
I believe what I said was $20 would go towards site content. Then I used the $20 to buy Popeye's and I'm thinking about maybe writing something, so you can't say that I LIED to you, exactly.
This is why I love TKP.
Btw I want my $20 back...or Popeye's.
Another floater from TSL. Turkey legs for cash for turkey legs huh? Noooice
I'll sell you my turkey legs. $50 for 1,000
How many turkey legs does it take to get a turkey leg at lane?
I'll let you know when I have collected enough.
Enough... Turkey legs at lane that you're tired of hogging them for yourself?
Sure, we'll go with that.
Already got the Avatar game on lock.
Thanks for mentioning this site in the comment section of the Vbulletin article on TSL. Otherwise, I wouldn't know this site existed.
No prob! I wonder just how many refugees have come/will come as a result of vbulletin closing. A day on these boards is like switching from a flip phone to an iPhone. Night and day, I love it!
Not sure how to get the word out. Your post was somewhat subtle in the comment section. I had to google TKP to find the site.
I am coming over under a different handle. Tired of the negativity on TSL. You post something and get a beat down by the people who are on the site 24/7. Makes people not want to post. It's like internet bullying.

Thank God this move came after the season ended, ....LT3 was the WORST topic this season by far.
I dunno. Ive seen some Pie vs Cake threads get outta hand!
It's true; the dessert crowd can be a vindictive bunch.
Pie and cake only exist to be served alongside ice cream, the one true dessert to rule them all.
Oh, don't worry, we have our fair share of inside jokes too.

well, HokieDale has recruited me over to TKP to take a look-see as well...
i guess we'll see how this goes.
the message boards are dead! long live the message boards!
Thanks for coming over!
Good ta see ya, Buggz!
Wow newbies errywhere!
Welcome one and all
What a cute koala! They don't have those in New York...is it a southern animal?
I know there is a reference in there somewhere... I just can't find it.
Nah, just the south cackalacki pageant contestant in me...

I, for one, welcome our TSL
overlordsfriends. You know, for awhile there I thought the title of this thread was TSL is Dead. Oops.
TSL?....never heard of it.
Welcome! you're gonna freak out with all the legit videos, mascot mocks, and absurd education when football season starts!
