If we were to land Searels would that be enough for us to hold onto Taylor? Or maybe pull in another last minute OL recruit?

Pure speculation here on my part, but I doubt it matters. Taylor is choosing between VT as the program that recruited him hard and tOSU, a late-comer but his lifelong favorite team. I doubt that Searels has much bearing on that. We're going to hire a good OL coach, and Tayler and the other OL recruits know that, but to me this seems like a more personal choice now that he has an offer from tOSU. I hope we can hold on to him, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't.

And while disappointed, I wouldn't blame the kid. OSU is his local school and he has always wanted to be a player there. That said, would you want to live that close to home?

Tech is the plain jane good friend with glasses and a ponytail. tOSU is the hot chick. Taylor was planning on going to prom with plain jane, but now hot chick needs a date. Who's he going to pick? The hot chick, of course.

The problem is that the hot chick doesn't really want to go with him, she just needed a date. He's going to spend all of prom sitting in the bleachers, while tech walks in, sans glasses and pony tail looking like Rachel Leigh Cook. But, sorry about your luck me taylor it's too late we found someone who loves us for who we are.

Fantastic analogy. I recall someone posted on a different thread that tOSU had offered 31 other OL prospects before they got around to offering Taylor.

He is from Columbus and grew up a Buckeye fan. It's like if someone from Christiansburg committed elsewhere and Virginia Tech finally came around and offered. Can you blame a guy for flipping if that's where he always wanted to go?

Definitely not. I don't fault the kid at all. I just find the analogy funny from the schools' side of things. tOSU is the desired one, the one everyone wants to have, so they think they have all the power to change things at any time of their choosing and get their way. In this case, they did, and maybe it will be the best thing for everyone involved.

I really don't think deep down anyone is surprised or upset. A lot of us have played NCAA in some iteration, and 9 times out of 10, when signing day comes (And I never make Tech the favorite, haha surprise) I always end up picking the Hokies.

It's no different. He just grew up picking Kirk Herbstreit instead of Mike Vick to play with.

Terrible analogy the ignores the unusual circumstances.

Perhaps the better way to look at it is that a kid from big 10 country had VT a solid second among a quality list of schools (including noted OL programs like Boston College and Wisconsin as well as Michigan State and about a dozen other good programs) BUT lost to a quality program which also just happens to be in his hometown, has been his favorite team since childhood, and one where his parents and friends will be able to easily see his home games (and many more away games than VT).

Are we really big enough to take a coach away from the vaunted Florida Gators?

Say it ain't so.

Searles doesn't work for UF, never has. He was considered the frontrunner for the UF OL job in early January and then they announced the next day that they hired Frank Summers from USC/UK.

Searles was an All American at Auburn under Neil Callaway/Pat Dye. He coached OL at UGA for a while and left for LSU where he did very well. He left LSU for UT where he was slightly less successful and was not retained when UT hired Charlie Strong to replace Mack Brown.

You mixed LSU and UGA up. He started at LSU and then went to UGA and then promptly left UGA for Texas.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I was more talking about how we were going to pull him out from under Muschamp, unless that UofFla site is old?

And now after re-reading your post I look even dumber. Whoops.

The UF story was dated Jan. 5. I was fooled, too. "Updated Monday at 12:30 PM" was just a few minutes before I popped open that page today.

No problem, this has happened a lot this weekend. Its tough to find info on these guys and when you do, it is info from when they were still coaching for someone. it takes multiple googles to figure out the situation.

Big question:
Searels versus Grimes in a cage fight.
Who wins?
