He WILL be coaching in the Pinstripe Bowl

Wish he could play in it too...one of my all time favorite Hokies

As a testament to his time on the field in Blacksburg , would he play at WR, RB, or DB? Or all three?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Always thought Justin Hamilton is an amazing human being and he definitely did a lot of good things during his coaching career here.

Hope he gets a great opportunity to excel and maybe one day come back!

This sucks. It's necessary, but it sucks.

Total class. I wish Coach Hamilton nothing but success.

Will

Very classy message and to continue on through the Bowl Game.

Will miss JHam and truly do hope the road may bring him back to VT one day, but he needs more experience before he is ready to D.C. at this level.

It would have been pretty damn difficult for Pry to bring him back under the circumstances. Schematic differences aside, JH would have likely had to take a de-facto demotion to come back as a Position coach---a difficult pill to swallow.

I think this shows Pry and JHam came to an amicable understanding and both acted professionally, really all you can ask for. Absolute best of luck to Hamilton going forward.

Future VT head coach. Calling it now.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Class act
I'm proud to have him as a VT alumni player and coach

Wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors, he was dealt a bad hand and handled it pretty well all things considered.

Hopefully JHam kicks ass wherever he lands and returns to coach at VT again some day. Best of luck!!

I'm happy he got the opportunity, but sad to see him go down with ship that was the Fuente era. Hope we see him back on the VT sideline at some point, but I'm excited to see him succeed elsewhere.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Wishing him nothing but success in his life. Thanks for being a Hokie JHam.

Best of luck JHAM! We appreciate all you have done and will continue to do for VT!

I wish nothing but the best for JHam, a true hokie!

All the feels. Such a class act. Perfect role model and VT ambassador though and though

VB born, class of '14

I have to say, of anyone who is leaving this year, it's among the hardest to see JHam go.

Best of luck, JHam. Won't surprise me if we see you back on the VT sidelines in VT colors sometime, and I'm not just talking about the Pinstripe Bowl.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. Damn who's cutting onions.

Vroom Vroom

That's exactly what I told my ex. Let me tell you how that went over . . .

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

I hope he can get a DC spot somewhere and continue his coaching career. Minor setback for a major comeback. Will always be a fan.

For those who have passed, for those to come...thanks JHam!

Let's get him hired as HC for Duke! He could go 11-1 every year.

We put the K in Kwality

Love it! What a guy! I'll miss him. He's good people, there's no denying that. I know it sucks, and he probably hurts to some extent but he also understands that's part of the business. He's a sharp young man and he will land on his feet. I won't be upset if he finds himself back in Blacksburg one day. Good coach. Even better man. Rooting for him no matter what. Hard not to. He's pure class!
Go JHAM!
Go Hokies!

Onward and upward

Ugh! I think the DC job came a couple of years to early in his coaching trajectory. He has great potential but this is a results business and we did not look good on defense from the last few mins of the ND game on. He will grow from this I'm sure.

Ironically, without that promotion, there's a good possibility he would have remained on staff with the coaching change.

Lots of DC's have defenses which are bad on occasion - including the new incoming HC.

Hamilton did a solid job in Y2 - it was a top 40-50 defense - and certainly established himself as a more than capable DC. He didn't come to the job too early. He just wasn't part of Pry's circle. But he'll land somewhere soon and will do well.

Yeah, I thought he did a decent job this year, and I can't really hold 2020 too much against him considering he didn't have a spring to install his D. I know all teams dealt with covid that year, but all teams were not getting started with a first time DC

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

There were definitely some good things from his defenses.

Some mind-numbing things too. With the exception of the first and last games of the season, the defense buckled at critical moments. Some of that is definitely a void of depth, our DEs and secondary being fatigued, but some of it was scheme as well.

Regardless, JHam's got a bright future of coaching ahead of him. I suspect he'll regain the reigns of a defense in the near future and will be better from this experience. A wonderful man and a great Hokie!

Thank You JHam. I for one hope he lands on his feet in a good spot and he comes back maybe in say 12-15 years to replace retiring Brent Pry as the head whistle. A guy can wish right!?

There's no glory in practice and lifting but without practice and lifting, there will be no glory!

I hope he goes to a G5 program and has the chance to really shine and hone his craft. It's clear he wasn't ready for the spot he was put in, but still has the potential to be a really solid coach down the line

Thank you coach ham!

On an unrelated note, I'm always amazed by people who type this much into a notes app. Like god damn, do you use a bluetooth keyboard, or are you really typing all that up on your phone???

Thanks JHam for your VT service!!! You served VT honorably!! Continue to be great in everything you do and best of luck with your next opportunity!!!

It is tough losing him. Forever a Hokie

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Of all the bad decisions we lay on Fuente, getting Jham on staff was one of his best decisions. Will miss him.

This message from DC Jham just hits you in the feels....

Go Hokies!

Wishing him the best going forward. Hope he does great in his next position and all future stops. Maybe we will see you again on the VT sideline (just not with another ACC school we have to compete with, Penn State or Harvard).

EDIT: JHam should wear #25 in the bowl game!

Harvard?

Graduate school at Yale. Therefore: Harvard sucks!

You a Skull & Bones member?

No. I thought that was only or at least mostly an undergrad thing. But would not have been anything I was interested in. Too much of a lab rat to have time for that anyway. Plus I was just a regular person who went to public schools my whole life prior to Yale. I suspect you would need connections to get into something like that, although I don't really know.

With Elko taking the Duke job, the hope is Hamilton is in the running for the DC/S position.

He knows the recruiting footprint & division opponents and he'll get to learn under one of the best defensive minds in college football. Much better than a G5 DC job and wouldn't be as much of a stepdown as being a position coach at a blue-blood.

I want good things for him and his family.

Not a horrible relocation either. Would be a good fit for coach Ham if they are interested.
