I would like to give a thank you to all the coaches at Virginia tech who believed in me as well as the community thank you for all the support the everyone showed but it was a very hard decision but I had decided to de-commit from the university of Virginia. tech.@RecruitGeorgia— Malcolm Jones (@mapp_302) December 13, 2021

hate to lose him. good luck to him at michigan state though.
i am very interested to see if michigan state eventually regrets that mel tucker deal. it could cripple them for a long time if it doesn't work out.
Yeah it really depends on what the expectations are in terms of Mel's success there. If he makes them a 8+ win every season, with occasional punch-ups to knock off Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State type-team I bet they will be relatively happy.
My understanding is that one or two major boosters basically are paying for this contract as it is.
I believe the buyout is also only $2.5 million with decreases of $500k each year, so it's a lot like an NFL contract. Looks like a lot of money on the contract, but the odds of all if it being paid out is very small, unless he actually makes it worth their while, or they renegotiate.

I am pretty sure that his contract is fully guaranteed and the buyout you speak of is if he leaves for another job.
Well, he's got the best agent in the world, then.
Tbf, if he chooses to leaves for another job (and has to pay the $2.5M buyout), MSU doesn't have to payout the rest of the contract. It's only guaranteed if he's let go without cause.
I get that. That's why it's so good. He leaves to take another job (which he's probably only going to do if he gets more money), and the other school barely has to pay anything, making him more attractive. MSU wants him gone, because the team isn't doing well, and he still gets it all.
Being on the hook for the entire contract is pretty crazy. College football coach contracts turned into the MLB contracts of the 90s. I don't know if this college coach arms race will keep going. Sooner or later, the ADs have to be smarter. Right now, one good year of play turns into a 10-year guaranteed contract. Whispers of the coach flirting with another school turns into an extension with an untenable buyout. It's crazy and undeserved, but with inventory of good coaches so low, ADs are gambling all "their money" into their guy.
I wouldn't at all bet Michigan State would be happy with 8-4 and the occasional run at the division title.
They see themselves as every bit the equal of Penn St and Michigan (but probably know Ohio State is a slightly different beast).
Mat Ishbia is the booster you are looking for. Owner of UWM Holdings and net worth of $7.6 billion according to Forbes. While I do inherently dislike billionaires, his story is actually kind of cool. He played on MSU's basketball team years ago and donates a lot of money to the school. He made a $32m donation at one point to rename the football facility and basketball coach after Izzo.
Pfft...wake me up when he names the head football coach position after himself a la Chris Bickell
Agree, has a real Paul Hewitt feel to it.
Tough loss. If you gave me 5-6 hand picks for the class that you could promise me we would keep through the coaching change he would have been one.
However, we knew there would be some recruits lost from the coaching change, and we should be able to mitigate this loss through the portal or other means. Not a death knell by any means, but definitely someone I thought would be a contributor in Blacksburg.
Glad I didn't go to UVT, isn't that Vermont...sounds cold
you're thinking of UVM, for University of VerMont, and I am actually not making this up at all
Sounds about right.
Nobody's up there to tell them any different.
With so many young Safety's I'm fine losing someone if we can get an upgrade at a different position
This week will be a roller coaster, strap in and let's ride
Have to eval more once the second signing day is complete. There are guys who were big VT targets (think Bryson Jennings) who didn't fit into the new defensive scheme at all (Jennings fit the length and get off motif of Teerlinck. This defense is more about guys who have twitch, can set an edge or slant across two gaps as the backside edge. I am not sure how Jones fit (I didn't get to see his film), but I envision Pry looking for a Chuck Clark type who can play in the box but shift to corner if needed. I envision a lot of changes at the safety position in the coming year.
Hmmm... "twitch."
Is that short-hand for "blow right past the ball carrier getting up field and then bounce off if you make contact?"
Nah, we've already got that.
Hi French, Apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere. Is Pry's D a return of the Bud Foster-Charlie Wiles Defensive scheme, or would we continue to look for bigger guys on D?
Well considering Hokies about to flip Burgos from uva. A DE who's 6-5.5 they probably still looking at tall Edge rushers
Gotcha. Thank you. Same for DT (schematically)?
Hope he's looking for a Chuck Clark type. While we're at it, I hope he's looking for some Adibi, Hall, Chancellor, Tapp, Worilds, Moore, Engleberger, and Fuller types as well.
Any more Fullers left out there?
Just think in 15-20 more years when the Fullers have Fullers that are college age.
hopefully we get all the cousins
I get what you're staying but we so need a different term to use for extended family than "Cousins." Way WVU-esque.
All the brothers' kids? The kids of all the brothers? All the brothers: the next generation?
Full(er) House?
I like it!
Um Vinnie was at school when I was, he could easily have a kid in college in the next few years. I have no idea if he has kids though
Also, officially committed to MSU
