How much longer will Beamer coach?

I've seen various predictions that indicate Frank will only stay a few more years. Does Grimes leaving impact that decision at all?

We are obviously rebuilding in several areas, and I wonder how much patience Frank has for the rebuilding process. Any thoughts?

I think this falls into a TSL - themed topics. I for one don't need to see this talked about incessantly on TKP.

The answer to your questions is NO. I don't mean to be offensive but Beamer is legit and Grimes leaving has zero impact on him being VT's coach. He will choose his on time to leave.

I am totally confused by your response. What do you mean that Frank Beamer is not legit? Frank is a Hall of Fame coach. How can you suggest he is not legit? My question is simply how much longer will we blessed that he is our head coach? Many have suggested that he is ready for retirement but he would like to make one more run at a National Championship. Losing an excellent offensive line coach has to hurt those chances.

I am just curious if anyone knows what he has in mind for his coaching tenure. Is it dependent on his confidence of coaching a National Championship team and did losing his OL coach impact that confidence. Or does he have a set number of years that he is wanting to coachc?

No. I said, Beamer IS legit. As in not going anywhere. Grimes has no bearing on his decision.

My main point is that this is exactly the type of everyday theme on TSL that I didn't like.

Look, like I said, I don't mean to be offensive, but I saw this question, in it's many derivations, about a billion times on TSL boards. It was non-stop. When is Beamer leaving? Does this "event" means the end of Beamer? Is this the last straw? etc, etc, etc, etc...

I don't mean to take that out on you. I just want to avoid the common themes of TSL on TKP. Just my personal bias.

But I do apologize and will give my perspective on your questions.

I believe Frank will be with us through 2016. We should be loaded those two years, with a great out of conference schedule that could lead up to National Championship runs. Plus there is no chance Beamer misses the Battle at Bristol. After that I couldn't say. In my view he has earned the right to choose the year he wants to leave and I honestly do not believe he will choose a Bowden/Paterno longevity.

Sorry. I misread your post. I hope you are right and Beamer stays with us at least until 2016. He put together a great coaching staff last year and now part of it is gone. I am worried that this will discourage Beamer and lead him to leave us sooner rather than later.

I hope you are right and he can find a good replacement for Grimes. I am concerned that once Beamer leaves, VT football will be very vulnerable.

Honestly, I am not that concerned when Beamer leaves. Of course a little, but he has an 8 year appointment as assistant to the AD, or whatever it is called, so that he can help ensure the program transitions successfully. That gives me comfort. If Bud isn't made HC then they will find someone that has the right values for VT. I think it is 99.99% unlikely any sub-par character like Petrino at Louisville will be hired.

It's impossible for anyone to know what Frank has in mind for his coaching tenure. If he told someone, wouldn't you think that it would be a highly trusted person who would not report those wishes to rest of the world? Not to mention the fact that what a football coach has in mind for his career can change extremely quickly (see Urban Meyer).

Basically, it's a pointless exercise as it would be pure speculation at this point and hence the frustrated responses from fellow posters.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Who knows? I think frank loves the program to stay too long past his prime. But he has every right to stay ad long as he wants. He is a world class coach who brought up tech from nothing. So instead of waiting for a new coach, enjoy the magnificent man CFB is.

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

The last thing I want is for Frank to leave. I think Tech fans will be in for a rude awakening when that happens.

Yeah, the doom and gloom talk is kinda silly.

I've seen you (or someone) say that "We're in for a rude awakening" when Beamer retires.

Seriously, it's not going to be like that, and for you to question whether a coach not bearing the same last name even as the head whistle is going to prompt him to leave, is also kinda silly.

We've enjoyed good runs under Beamer, but like any corporation, it will go through new management. It doesn't mean that even the largest of cogs doesn't need replacing once in a while. We've speculated as to who will be the new coach since 2001 when Beams was looking towards UNC. It's gonna happen. It has to happen.

When it does happen, the school will make the best decision it feels is necessary, and if you asked me right now, our team leader is ALREADY IN PLACE.

It's a team. It's by no means one man, even if he lead us to greatness.

Quit asking the same fucking question over and over again. This is why I left TSL almost a year ago, I simply can't handle the gloomy fans being emo just to get a rise out of message board folks.

I'm much more concerned with the post-TSL transition of TKP than VT right now. It feels like we are in the last life boat and every TSLer is hanging on the side trying to scurry on board. You're going to sink us all!

I'm considering making a new thread for this because it's meta as hell, but take a deep breath. TSL killing their vbulletin has lead to an influx of new accounts here. TSL has a negative connotation, because, well, we've all read TSL. However, it's a generalization. There are some smart and insightful people who post there, and perhaps they're posting here now. I move that we give everyone the benefit of the doubt. The community here is strong enough and has the tools to self moderate.

As for Hokie Dale's original posts, I'd liken it to walking into a new neighbor's house party and asking everyone who they voted for in the last election. (Note: we don't talk politics here.) It's not the first thing you talk about after shaking hands. With that said, it wasn't totally unreasonable.

On a side note especially got a laugh when you stated that there are "plenty of TOOLS on here." That is all.

Wow! I asked what I thought was an innocent question, because I think Frank Beamer is the best thing to ever happen to Virginia Tech football and I am curious how much longer we will be fortunate to have him as head coach. Instead of an answer, I get nothing but personal attacks, and am accused of gloom and doom.

This is my first day on this message board. I came here because I didn't like what was happening at TSL. Instead I get asked to stop "asking the same fucking question over and over again". I'm sorry I posted anything at all. Obviously this message board is not the cordial environment I had hoped it would be.

The board is quite cordial and inviting but, new guys should possibly lurk for a bit and get the feel for the board and what's been done, in order to avoid reopening a contentious topic that was just rehashed a couple times during the season and then again last week.

You won't find it in the title of any threads, it got buried inside another topic.

So, Welcome, stay, lurk and get a feel for the way things are done here, we take pride in the decorum (the drapes are new) Orange and Maroon DO look good in floor to ceiling drapes.

In the meantime, you must agree, pie > cake.

What's your favorite beer?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

THIS!! Like any site that you're new too, READ MORE, POST LESS for a few weeks. I like TKP because French, Mason, Joe, and Bulldozer rock out with their cocks out but also I can have an intelligent debate without losing my temper and put my fist through this Gov't computer monitor. Pie>Cake, Bourbon in the fall/winter, Coors light in the spring/summer!

The pie is a lie.

Believe in cake!

Look, if you need a delivery system for your icing, just put it on a pie.
No need to put it on a sponge.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Awww sad I hope he comes back...good effort Egbert

Hokie Dale, I dont believe anyone who has responded to you has meant for their comments to seem like personal attacks. Everyone on the site is just VERY concerned that with the influx of TSL readers, the excellent commentary on TKP is going to deteriorate. Don't take it personally. Like many of us have said, welcome to the site, we're all Hokies here. Just a few tips, try not to post knee jerk reactions to events, proclaim your allegiance to either pie or cake (the correct answer is pie), and be prepared to never be able to read another VT blog ever.

It's kinda my fault this is spiraling, but here's the reasoning:

Even though I'm not an active poster on the sideline, I still lurk to see what's happening and everyday the questions seem the same:

When will coach Beamer retire, what has Stiney done this time, why didn't we get 10 wins, why do you think 10 wins is a success?

Then I see a lot of what appears to be awful ESPN type posts about how bad things are. How bad they're gonna be.

This is the internet, and I get that, but TKP is much more fun and less...I don't know how to explain it. Gloomy I guess than other boards.

We literally have the best of everything here. .gifs, amazing reads on plays you didn't even recognize in games, posters etc.

I apologize for spouting and cursing. There are great posters on TSL and I hope they come our way, if you can stomach most of what they're trying to say (Bst anyone?)

I'm glad you're here, in the orange and maroon. But we have more pressing issues to debate than the head whistle.

I don't know if you're aware, but cake beats pie and if you can think of a Ford pun, you'll do just fine.

^and this is exactly what makes TKP so awesome. (minus your mention of cake). Everyone hug it out.

Sometimes I like to imagine that he's posting via smartphone or tablet and I just like to envision the arguments that go down between himself and his spellchecker/autocorrect.

It's fun for a while, and he's amazingly smart.

So you'd say if you arrive with Ford puns you may have... an Edge?

I'll be taking my leave of absence now, don't worry.

At least you would in this Fusion of TSL and TKP members.

Yeah, there's no reason to be hating on all these new members. We should be throwing them a Fiesta.

OK, I'm sorry, that was definitely groan-inducing...

I'm glad it doesn't bother you, but I'm sure it Mustanger some.

Without trying to be sarcastic I think that is just something none of us can even really guess. CFB will leave/retire on his terms when he is ready. Only he could answer that and I would be willing to bet he is thinking about the upcoming season and thats it for now. Granted he might be thinking or even talking about with his wife and family, but no one, including himself, will say anything until it's time. Then we'll all mourn and wait to see if Bud or someone else takes the reigns. That being said, I think it's an interesting topic, but it's just all speculation until it actually happens.

You make frank sound like some mystical shamanjedimonk. I can't say you're wrong either.

Oh no. It's happening. Brace yourselves for the TSL influx. That being said, welcome aboard. Long live the Frankinator.

"Yeah, it do." - Mike Vick

He will be the head coach through at least 2016. If the new AD is selected with Beamer's support, he will be the head coach as long as he wants afterwards.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Like French and many others, I believe that unless Frank's health deteriorates he will be the head coach through 2016 and the battle at Bristol at a minimum. I believe that is also the year his current contract expires and he turns 70. I don't think a new AD and a new President are going to mess with a 27+ year alumni coaching a good (if not great) football team.

Frank has earned the right to leave when he wants and I think the AD will respect that if the team is still doing okay. By okay that means winning seasons not necessarily 10 wins. I think most AD's would be happy with a clean team that graduates players without scandal that wins more than it loses.

That is my 2 cents.

After reading Beamer's book I feel like he will be at VT at least through the 2016 season. After that I think there are 2 variables with the AD and with how many wins VT has. I don't see Beamer wanting to leave in a season that VT doesn't win 10 games and then there has to be taken into account the AD's feelings.

If in 2016 VT beats UT and Notre Dame along with winning 10 games I see Beamer riding off into the sunset. If 2016 isn't a successful campaign Beamer will want to stay until the ship is righted.

I think it'll have more to do with what position the program is in and his health. He should have and experienced QB and if Loeffler has the offense in order after a few seasons I see him giving it one last hurrah for the Crystal Football. After that I can see him retiring or if things aren't going so well. He has stated he's sensitive to staying too long.

lol hey now, some of us take offense to the "TSL influx" barb. But yeah, this is one of those "will this topic ever f'n DIE" posts that overwhelmed that board which, shockingly, is only going to get worse now that they've scrapped vB and are going with their 1990s archaic formatting that long made them the ridicule of fan sites.

Anyway, to answer the question. He isn't going anywhere til he wants to go. He's surrounded himself with legit talent now, and could very well go a lot longer than people want to admit if these coordinators start pulling their weight to the level we expect them to. If Loeffler is the real deal and that offense gets rolling (would it even be appropriate to say 'get the offense rolling again') I could see him going another 10 years, easy. But in the end, the call is his, so there's no use in worrying about it.

And when he does retire, we're going to be fine. We're the largest high profile university in one of the largest states in the US with a recruiting hotbed in our own backyard who fully understands that we need football to be good in order for our Athletic Department to strive. I HIGHLY doubt our Athletic Department is incompetent enough to screw that up. Even Jim Weaver knew where his bread was buttered.

now that they've scrapped vB and are going with their 1990s archaic formatting that long made them the ridicule of fan sites.

We just offered an 8th grader the other day. I think that speaks for itself on Frank Beamer's longevity at VT.

Additionally, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Trinity Christian is the same school that Isaiah Ford goes to. Edit* Nevermind it says so in the article.

Not to be outdone, Mike London has recently been spotted in hospital maternity wards, putting up cards saying "YOU!" on each of the newborns' rooms.

Over/under on that he handed out more cards than they had fans at their spring game?

It's a legit question for a new member- so long as it doesn't pop up over and over in the next week or two.

As for Beamer staying, I think he still has plenty in him. Let's see how the coaching changes take affect after another year or two, and we'll have a much better idea of what will happen, I think.

The conversation of Frank leaving and doom afterwards amuses me. Why wouldn't another top rated coaching prospect not want to coach at VT if the Head coaching position is available? Not saying we would be able to pull a Charlie Strong move, but I'm sure there are plenty of good coaches out there that would be willing to jump in.
