Yep.

Most unfortunate, but highly anticipated.

Gonna miss having Orji references, best of luck to ya!

1-0 every week

In an alternate timeline we could have had a hooker and an orji in Blacksburg

And a Pimp(...leton)!

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

....And Hugh Freeze overseeing it all...

No. That's a task fit for a Falwell.

Somehow, it feels like we did.

Memory is fuzzy, but still hungover.

For a brief time we had a Hooker and Pimp(leton) on the same roster but Pimpleton transferred before really contributing.

Just need Bender from futurama as a strength and conditioning coach.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I am willing to accept that responsibility, and humbly accept the increased pay that fans have been clamoring for the S&C coach to get.

Oh man, some of y'all haven't been on here long enough to remember the previous Bender...

Meh. I for one am glad we can finally put all the Orji jokes to bed.

Having a conversation with you is like a Martian talking to a Fungo.

.

When you can't even get a Hooker to stay, you can't expect to get an Orji /s

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

PSA: don't invite a Hooker to your Orji

I mean, I can understand Michigan. I still don't understand Maryland.

Virginia Tech Recruiting Pitch: We haven't been great recently, but help us rebuild our national brand. Get early playing time and shine!

Maryland Recruiting Pitch: ....exact same thing.... except play in a competitive, high profile division instead of "play liberty...and boston college...and Duke....

Note: I don't like it, but I get it....

More like:

  • Virginia Tech Recruiting Pitch: We're a mediocre team in a mediocre P5 conference, and we just fired your favorite people!
  • Maryland Recruiting Pitch: We're a mediocre-bad team in a good P5 conference, and and we still employ some of your favorite people!

Hopefully it works out for him but let's keep the line of communication open for the T Portal in a year or two.

This year, with a new coach, limited knowledge about the offensive coaching staff, etc I agree with this... in a typical year, if a recruit burns us on signing day, I don't want him later

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

T Portal

I got money in the bank, shawty what you think about that.

well shit. the best two O players ugh...Hopefully, the wait for Bowen and building his staff will be worth it more than Brown and Oriji.

You're assuming if the staff was in place this wouldn't have happened.

I think we've all been doing this long enough to know that sometimes kids just change their mind irrespective of what's happening at the school they initially committed to.

Agree. This is the whole reason there is a big push to recruit the region. Getting kids from texas to stay hooked on at VT requires what Michigan has to offer them. Bottom line is the staff that recruited Orji with Texas connections is out. I honestly didn't expect it to come down to a signing day flip but it is what it is.

I care a lot more about Pry building the offensive staff that he wants than a couple of players. If you think two football players are going to be more important to VT football over the next 3-5 years than the offensive coaching staff, then I don't know what to tell you.

I actually think that 1-2 transcendent players can be more important than the staff however you only know that in retrospect so yes, please get excellent staff.

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not yet completely sure about the universe.” -Einstein

One Michael Vick can help change a teams trajectory. It's also momentum. Bring a couple high profiles to your program and you gain some stature. If a few recruits don't matter then what in the heck have we been worrying about recruiting for over the last 6 years

A transcendent player can be a game changer, but he still needs coaches and other good players around him. He needs an offensive scheme that maximizes the skills/abilities that make him transcendent. A great player can make up for weaknesses on the team/staff, but a great coaching staff can make good players look transcendent. I want a staff that will get us results every year, not just once in a generation when we get a Vick.

I agree that we need to get better players, but we also need coaches who can make our existing players better. Let's focus on getting the right offensive staff in place who can maximize the players who want to be Hokies instead of crying about the ones who don't.

I also wouldn't consider either Orji or Brown anywhere near transcendent players

Ha, I was going to say that but then decided not to. I'm glad someone else did. I don't think 5 years from now we're going to be saying, "Pry really could have had a great career at Tech if only he'd signed Orji and Brown".

I'd rather have a competent offensive staff than a 3 star QB and a 12th running back.

The Offensive coaching staff is ABSOLUTELY more important than a couple of players on offense.

I think they did an awesome job of holding this class together, and it's much more important to get the right staff together. Doesn't surprise me that Pry was able to put the defensive staff together first.

Have a look at UVa's recruiting class to see what failure looks like. And even in their case, I'd say getting the right staff is more important than this one recruiting class.

thanks for all those hot takes folks. was only saying that hopefully bowen pans out better than those two. You would hope that is highly likely but one never knows. I did not say an OC and staff were not more important but sometimes they aren't, i.e., Corn.

One thing is for sure, either they are or they aren't

Big if true...

Not the first time I've been denied an Orji

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Does anyone else notice that no one else in that pic looks too thrilled other than him, but just my 2 cents I'm sure they're all happy for him. Maybe he just knew he was gonna get big dogged by Farrell /s

Go for it

does a 51% passer in high school suddenly get more accurate in college? Not downplaying the loss, but some folks on the interwebs have acted like the second coming of tyrod just flipped on us.

Exactly. I hate to lose a commit but you're right. Tyrod was a five star recruit, Orji is a high three star recruit, ranked just .03 higher than Tahj Bullock and similar size. Is his upside really much higher than Bullock's? I'm not a good evaluator so I don't know but seems to be more a loss to depth than a prize quarterback.

He's scoring like crazy and has been well coached in Texas, but his throwing motion is sus at best, and he's playing with some great athletes on offense in a state where no one plays a whole lot of defense. He's definitely a P5 athlete but I'm not sure he's a P5 QB

I haven't watched any or Orji or know his stats, but inaccurate passers almost never become accurate. Example Joe Milton. Huge arm, highly rated, can't hit a downfield receiver with any regularity. There's countless other guys with all the physical tools who weren't accurate and never became such.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Boy its good we didn't keep the old staff in hopes to land a recruiting class like many were clamoring for. Its highly likely we would ever have been able to keep him when a playoff team like Michigan comes calling.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

This late stage flip reminds me of the mobile QB flip from a couple of years ago (TX recruit). I want to say he ended up at Auburn.

Edit: Dematrius Davis

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

And now he's allegedly looking at transferring out of there

I've seen some rumors on Twitter that DD may be entering the transfer portal

1-0 every week

DD himself tweeted that he wasn't

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Didn't he also tweet he was 100% VT or some such?

Yeah but he didn't say 800% so...

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

Bo Nix did...so less competition for the backup QB role at Auburn for DD

I mean its basically the story of recruiting under the previous regime. Lots of promise early within a class, a couple big headliners to get everyone excited only to have all the wind completely sucked out of the sails late when the big fish flip to another school in the closing stages of the cycle.

That also happened under Beamer.

The problem is when your hopes for recruiting rankings hinge on one recruit. It's sort of how the ratings are structured, where the whole class grade is based on your top acquisition. There is always someone trying to snipe him at the last minute.

Ugh. I guess it is better than him flipping to Penn State or UVa, but still, ugh. With that said, cannot blame him with so much up-in-the air at VT and so many WRs gone.

I hope thats the end of the wasted energy chasing Texas players.

Just wanted to tell everyone, if you're bummed about losing Orji, I invite you to go back and watch his Hudl, then go watch Devin Farrell's. Made me feel better.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

A P5 Program is going to take a flier on Coach Prime very soon.

Not sure if he can X/O his way out of a paperbag, but he knows how to recruit and promote a Program.

Coach Prime or Optimus Prime?

and tie in with companies to give this guy $M bags to sign. he will probably transfer next year anyway. CFB is a joke now.

He's 10-1, playing for the HBCU national title, putting butts in seats at Jackson St, selling gear and merchandise, Aflac, oh, and putting Jackson St (and other HBCU) games on ESPN and we don't have to wait until the 10pm tape delay for it. That's for those of us sickos who stay up til 3am watching Hawaii play, and would watch the 10pm HBCU game on ESPNU before they put live games on this year.

And this after posting a near flawless coaching record in high school

I wouldn't have been opposed to offering him at VT, but it'd be more of a fit issue with Deion, than coaching record. He'll be at Florida St or another P5 school in the very near future. Man has earned it.

Good luck to Orji.

If the new staff can evaluate talent and develop it, a few guys flipping won't matter.

Put players in the league, win 8 games or more.....less players will flip in the future.

Especially to the effing Twerps.
