Not sure if this will pave the way for our OC announcement, but he's out per Shefty
After less than one year in Jacksonville, Urban Meyer is out as the Jaguars' head coach, sources tell ESPN.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 16, 2021

None of this could have happened to a better person.
Beat me to it. The guy is an absolute royal prick. I hope the Jags take the position that him kicking the kicker is grounds for termination for cause and he doesn't get paid a cent of his buyout
via GIPHY
When I saw tonight that he kicked a player (ironically the kicker), I knew he was gonna be fired within 24 hrs.
Maybe people will finally realize what has always been true; Urban Meyer is a giant douchebag
Was it that ironic? I thought it was somewhat intentional - Urban was kicking the kicker in hopes of motivating the kicker to kick better.
It's about time. I mean who didn't see this coming from the moment they hired him?
I didn't expect him to be fired, but did doubt he'd make it a whole season.
Losing football games tends to be bad for his personal health after all.
Kind of funny that both Papa John and Urban Meyer are out of jobs this morning. This is a legendary picture.
Hahahahahah
I think we all knew he was going to get fired, but I did not expect it to happen overnight like this.
I wish I could've been a fly on the wall at Jaguars HQ after the story broke about Urban kicking Lambo.
Shad Khan has known about it for months.
Way to go, urban. You piece of shit.
He still never killed a kid (that we know of), though
give it time...
Does ignoring all of Aaron Hernandez's doings count?
He's gonna put on 50 lbs from all the pizza it's gonna take to get over this one.
That is risky for a man with health conditions
More like Urban Fired amirite
Also imagine how crazy it would have been if this happened a couple of weeks ago with ND, LSU, USC, OK, UF, etc all in play???
Suburban Fired*
Urban Feyer'd
Winner 🏆
Might be time for a change of image...introducing: Rural Meyer
Clearly auditioning for the Texas job
Bourbon Tired?
All I need is a photo of him sad holding a just about empty snifter contemplating life.
The owner did Meyer a favor, now he doesn't have to go through some mysterious illness for the next couple of months.
Genuine shit bag but now that NIL is around and he can finally legally pay kids to play in college I'm sure he'll give college another crack.
Also can Bowen just leave that organization now seasons done no need to stick around now.
Season's done? I mean, not meaningful, but there are games left. I tried looking it up to see if position coaches have contracts in the NFL, where he may not be able to leave, but couldn't tell (everything I found related to NFL guys becoming HCs in college with those contracts).
Were I him, I'd quit and get to the NRV as soon as I could.
He's in a disastrous situation, with no hope of getting any better. Assuming the rumors are true that he's the next OC for VT, why not make the move now? Assuming there's no massive financial penalty, that is.
The potential for a financial penalty was what I was getting at with wondering if they have contracts.
Pry basically confirmed it yesterday
Confirmed that Bowen will be OC?
Yup. And it's being reported as fact by NFL and college people.
He'll end up at an SEC school or succeed Freeze at Liberty. You know, some place morally adjacent to him.
This ends with him going back to Ohio State after Ryan Day leaves for the NFL in January doesnt it?
Hmmm the Jags have an open position, Ryan might want to look into that.
I imagine this makes for a better work environment for our future OC for the next few weeks.
Also, I won't be shocked if Jax goes 3-1 the rest of the way.
Hell yeah, we need an OC since he is now avalaible and probably can be gotten for cheap
Dude has proven over and over what an asshole he is...yet high school students will line up to play for him. I'd never let my kids play for guy like him.
Turden Meyer
So happy about this. He has been awful for an already bad franchise.
The owner's statement is missing "Respect my decision"
He's 800% fired
My only takeaway from recent events is one can assume that he was abusive to his players when he was coaching CFB, no way this started this season. Crazy that a man with that sort of reputation can recruit, and that it took coaching adults for it to come out.
An article I read had a great point - in the NFL, coaching grown men has a much different balance of power than coaching college kids where all the power belongs to him. He's an abuser which also gives some insight into why Urban reacted how he did when his assistant's domestic violence came to light.
Yup. Honestly I've seen this dynamic play out in the corporate world too. Younger workers don't always have the established self worth to stand up to toxic superiors or recognize that's what's happening.
And he taught a 'leadership' class at OSU. Lulz
Can't believe that Ohio State fans think THE Ohio State means
Tradition
Honor
Excellence
And they don't get the irony after the Urban Meyer tenure
Fun fact: I was enrolled in that class but ended up dropping since it was a Monday 8am class and he only taught a single lecture. The rest of the lectures were taught by assistant coaches, which probably would have been better in retrospect.
Just as well, he probably would have kicked you and called you a loser for not showing up
Depends on which assistant taught it. Not like he covered up some serious allegations for at least one of them or anything...
Great point! But I would gladly listen to anything Tony Alford (RB coach) or Larry Johnson (DL coach) had to say.
Any chance Bowen gets promoted to OC now?
I really hope Bowen heads straight to Blacksburg.
So Bowen is on his way to be our OC now!?
Virginia Tech recruiting coordinator Urban Meyer
In tribute of Urb
Brother Khan has spoken
What a shitbag. Ever since he left Florida to "focus on his family/health" and then came back within a year to OSU I've thought he was all illusion and fake mirrors. I wasn't surprised when he pulled the same shit with OSU & the Jags.
The recent crap about his assistant and the domestic violence just confirmed my thoughts.
good riddance, like I've said before dude's a scumbag.......but that doesn't matter, he's probably gonna be a coach at a blue blood in the next few years
Oh God, please tell me this guy is a professional comedian or something using electrical hazards as props (like a real-life Tim Taylor).
If he isn't, please lie for my sanity's sake.
Yeah, it's a YouTube channel if I remember right. It is all staged and an act.
ElectroBOOM on YouTube. Very educational, and entertaining, but deep-dive electrical engineering sometimes. He prefers showing you how easy it is to screw up and how not to kill yourself like he almost does to himself (all very controlled, of course).
The last clip in the above video is his idea of an "electric guitar"... which is a guitar with mains wires instead of strings :)
I knew about this guy but the Urban overlay just slayed me.
That is umm...
Very disturbing
to say the least.
He looks a little like Dan Aykroyd as Beldar in Coneheads. Except Dan Aykroyd isn't a douchenozzle.
What do you think? Should we throw him a bone and give him an analyst position lol?
You can bet Saban already called him today
Just pointing it out, that, at least for a few weeks, Brad Cornelson has a job in football and Urban Meyer does not
Maybe he can go into consulting for a while and help other schools like he helped Colorado State when he told them to hire coaching genius Steve Addazio.
Analysis: MOAR DUDES!!
I think we should consider him for an assistant job. Maybe kicking coach? /s
He examined and made sure he did each one!
Fired for cause not getting anymore money from the Jags.

Just putting this here for everyone to laugh.
Apparently it was much worse in Jacksonville than initially reported. Athletic had the story but I have linked to the yahoo sports write up below.

More evidence that you can't run a pro team like a college team (although you shouldn't run a college team that way either.)
And yet, sadly, some private college with a ton of money who wants to win football games will likely hire that jerk again somewhere next season.
Urban Meyer to Miami confirmed when their next coach goes down in flames?
Maybe my favorite part
"Hey, Trevor, you've got to slow it down for him," Meyer said, according to sources who spoke to The Athletic. "These boys from the South, their transcripts ain't right."
Big lol at not realizing Trevor Lawrence is from the south too.
Now I'm more intrigued than ever.....
How did Urban Meyer succeed with this coaching style in CFB? or did he change it up for the NFL? I'm really at a loss
I'm not. He succeeded with that coaching style because he actually had the power/ability to do what he was threatening people with at the collegiate level.
I will make it clear that I am not defending Meyer, guy is a scumbag. But that's the variable that had changed. At Ohio State, you do what the head coach says or never see the field. In the NFL, you can be a DJ Chark and never really accomplish much of anything, but complain after you've left the team and signed a deal with a new team.
Its easy to read it as Meyer just being completely clueless and tone deaf, but the reality is a much easier explanation. "It worked before"
I guarantee there are plenty of other successful college coaches that operate in a way right now that is not all that different. I'm not throwing around accusations, but with the kind of power these guys wield its not that far fetched.
To put it more simply, in college players have zero power. Pro players have tons of leverage.
Coaches control who plays, where you can transfer, etc. Top college coaches make as much as most pro coaches. They don't have to honor a scholarship as they are year to year.
In the Pros, there are backup QBs that make more than coaches. QBs could get a coach fired in the pros. I bet some one like Champ Bailey could have gotten his DB coach fired if he wanted. We paid Fuente more than 6 NFL coaches. 141 players make more than the highest paid NFL coach.
not combined though
On the flip side there are at least a few coaches that succeed by virtue of doing the opposite. Beamer really was special in this regard, and I suspect part of his success was the simple fact that people (coaches and players) liked working for him. It's the secret sauce to having the same coaches working for him for a long time without moving on to bigger things and how he was able to get production out of players who sometimes didn't start until a redshirt junior/senior year.
Meyer's style probably works at a place like OSU because it churns elite athletes to the NFL who only have to suffer the abuse for a relatively short period of time. Players who have the talent to win, just need to be motivated.
Fuente had a problem retaining players, and that was a key part of his failures. I suspect that he's not Urban Meyer bad, but he's not exactly a good people person either, ultimately. My point being that actually I do think this behavior is generally not rewarded, although there are certain places where I can easily see how you can get away with it.
Some of the stuff coming out, makes it sound like he wanted to get fired...maybe all those L's just really took their toll on ol' Urb
Being a professional football coach and not knowing who Aaron Donald is should be enough to get that firing job cemented lol
In any league, you can succeed when you have the best players. Coach K didn't suceed because of his good looks.
Getting nearly every 50/50 call to go your way doesn't hurt either
I understand all these comments, but another thing to remember. All of these players CHOSE to go to OSU, and many of them stayed. I'm not 100% sure any of these former players are criticizing their experiences with Urban as well.
Urban Meyer didn't just operate at OSU/UF, but enjoyed high levels of success. I'm not 100% convinced that there wasn't a shift in demeanor when he went pro.
Yeah but that was pre-Xfer portal. Just imagine now that the players have some power.
So we're just gonna sweep the whole "don't wear a hoodie" experience that several former players opened up about this past fall, including using images of Trayvon Martin, under the rug?
Or is using a racial stereotype that lead to another person's death as a form of intimidation okay in college football? Some might call that racism.
Or how about allowing a player who was involved in multiple off field incidents to remain on the team, including a murder after graduation that was revealed after said player got caught murdering someone else as a pro?
Lest not forget, Florida's football program had one hell of a rap sheet. And Tim Tebow.
Or how about having an assistant coach who abused his now ex wife, and not only knowing it, but Urban's wife knew, and keeping him on staff for as long as he could?
When he became pro, Urban didn't get to hide behind the logo, he didn't get to pay off campus police, he didn't get to use intimidation tactics to get his way, he didn't have high level mega million dollar boosters protecting him.
He got caught doing what he did at his worst.
