Virginia Tech: Sources tell FootballScoop Marshall general manager Mike Villagrana is expected to join Brent Pry's staff in a senior personnel position. Villagrana spent 2015 as Penn State's recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining Charles Huff's staff at Marshall he served as director of recruiting at Mississippi State. Villagrana played at West Virginia.

Stealing anything recruiting related from Huff has to be a win...
Welcome aboard!
ok so if I am not mistaken these are the areas we have covered just on staff direct experience, not including recruiting exposure in surrounding states:
VA, DMV, PA, NC, SC, MS, WV. Add FL connection and damn that's sexy.
anything I'm missing?
TN. I think it was Holt that coached a year in TN.
Well that and the three years Pry spent at Vandy.
Doh! And Marve also.
GA
Yeah, that's another that should have been obvious.
Anything for Alabama, Louisiana, or Kentucky?
But what about the natural recruiting base for VT of the Houston suburbs?
Those of you on Twitter really have been clutch with the news for the rest of us.
I've been posting a lot mostly because my job has been boring me lately and I'm still working from home. Plus super exciting times has me checking social media constantly for updates.
I feel stupid asking this, but what does a college football general manager do (here at Initech)? I've never heard that termed used other than in Pro sports.
Probably for people with upper management written all over them...wouldn't ya say Bob?
Interesting question...never heard of that either in CFB. I went to look at the support staff roster for VT FB and JFC there are like 30 different people with "Director" in their title!
Vanderbilt hired the 247 scouting director as their GM last year. It's a new job in cfb managing the roster making sure you don't have the same type of roster mismanagement issues that the Fuente era had.
Yeah, we really need to add some more running backs. Fuente was really lacking with only way too many running backs instead of a baffling amount.
They manage the generals, duh
There it is, the dad joke. Take your leg
I'm sincerely surprised that it was this far down the thread
College football general managers deal with people, THEY ARE GOOD AT DEALING WITH PEOPLE!!!!!!
What I've read is the position is basically roster management and some recruiting stuff too. Fuente could've used one of those so he didn't pick up his roster of 1,000 running backs
I mean, he could have hired almost anyone on the TKP boards, because we all thought we were good on 5'9" 190 lb running backs, and were ready to recruit some linemen.
I don't know if you've heard but coach Mike Villagrana has developed an impressive coaching/managing style with his "Jump to Conclusions Mat". You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO! This is why Lumberg will never make it to the playoff...let's go!
Yeah but does he have enough flair?
Yeahhhh, I'm going to have to ask you to come in on Saturday to explain this. Yeahhhh, so if you could just go ahead and do that, that'd be terrific. Thankssss.
Don't feel stupid asking that because given the nebulous nature of the position across all football, it seems perfectly valid to ask...
...which I hope is an answer an interview with Tech Talk Live or the like could answer.
I understand that having this dedicated position for roster management allows the HC to focus on fewer responsibilities but even without a GM how does a team end up with so many [underutilized] RB's?
The connections keep connecting!
Admirable of Pry to hire folks with disabilities to a prominent role.
I keed.
Welcome Mr. Villagrana!
On a WV-related note, we went to Pipestem
NationalState Park over the summer and stayed in the hotel there. It was really awesome but I noticed the sink was dripping onto the floor when I checked in. I called the front desk and told the clerk, "I got a leak in my sink." She replied, "Ok, honey, do what you gotta, but we prefer guests use the toilets."LOL, what makes this even funnier is I don't know if this is a joke or if it really happened. Having been to Pipestem a bunch, I can see it either way.
But BTW, Pipestem is a State Park, not National.
Where are we going to put all these people? Welcome to the team Mike!
Triple-stack 'em in the rooms like the VTCC!
Ah yes, the VTCC roommate triple stack, those were the days back in Brodie Hall. Thanks for the sweet walk down nostalgia lane.
They are still triple stacking. Youngest son is a junior in the vtcc this year. First 2 as well. Makes for quick move in/move out days though.
Those huge old Brodie rooms were nice with just two people. My room my junior year was so big I swear it had an echo.
Official!
New thread? I have questions for those in the know.
Wow. Can we say recruiting focus?
