For as much as Thurston mocked us, it seems they should have been able to get a hold on this Covid thing. Imagine karma slapping you in your face twice over this.
What the hell is going on at BC... 40 players unavailable?!
Lastly, no bowl for ECU, love to see it.

To all but SMU, because they have built up some karma
Hope us and Merryland can stay clean.
ECU gonna ECU!
ECU has probably a higher density of Karens than any other college football fanbase
Their helmets ought to feature this fine gal:
That is.... frightening.
Wouldn't be surprised if we get cancelled too tbh
Guessing or based on info? Only thing I saw was no Lofton, Murray, or Thompson at practice.
Just because of the trendlines of how omicron is spreading and how many people are getting sick. I would feel the same even if our team wasn't doing tourist stuff in NY. Two teams with 100+ players and staff each is too many variables. I think we could see 1/4 to 1/3 of bowls not played, especially lower tier ones like Pinstripe.
One of biggest differences for Tech is almost 100% vaccinated rate among all of them. Biggest hurdle is not having enough linemen on either side that they can't play the game by rule.
Yeah but it's spreading to vaccinated peeps too. I'm not saying it will happen, just that I wouldn't be surprised and we should prepare ourselves mentally for the possibility.
Yeah I have family who just got COVID last week and were fully vaccinated. Fortunately so far it seems that omicron symptoms are generally milder, especially if you have already had the vaccine. But it's highly contagious and being vaccinated won't necessarily keep you from getting it. It's been going rampant the last couple of weeks. Looks like bowls could be in a ton of jeopardy.
I stopped betting except for live bets because you don't know who'll be available on any given day
I tend to agree. I don't know what current Covid testing protocols are, but if you're testing a random chunk of a football team (including players and staff, regardless of their vaccination status), I have to imagine that a high % of positive tests will be returned.
This is all I'll say, but I really don't think the 100% vaccination rate is making a difference, especially since it's been almost a year since most of the players got vaxxed. The four teams that cancelled (Miami, BC, UVA, Hawai'i) all have vaccine mandates for students.
That's short sighted. Vaccines don't mean absence of cases. The vaccine rate absolutely makes a difference. Without it cases would be much, much higher; symptoms would be much worse; hospitalizations would be through the roof; and there would be more deaths.
We all should probably refresh our knowledge regarding what vaccines do and don't do, and their effectiveness regarding Omicron.
I think previous poster was just saying that - regardless of the impact the vaccine is having on public health - it's not enough to keep a lot of teams in their bowl games (whether that's due to positive tests, contact tracing, or symptoms).
Woah- slow down. I wasn't arguing for or against any of that. I'm just saying that having all our players vaccinated isn't going to protect us from having our bowl game cancelled- all the teams that are cancelling their games are ones with mandates in place.
Understood. +leg (and virtual bourbon). I'm just hypersensitive to people saying vaccines don't work.
Wasn't BC 100% vaccinated before the season even started?
NYC reporting 55,000 new positives today is probably not a good sign...
Miami out of the Sun Bowl as well.
I bet this has nothing to do with COVID-might snow in El Paso during the game
Miami player coughing at the sight of snow
The word is choking
It's pronounced "choking".
I thought Miami players snorted at "snow"
I don't have an exact number but it sounds like the vast majority of BC's 40 missing players are early departures from the program, not held out by COVID protocols.
UCLA-NC State cancelled 4 hours before kickoff. Until any game actually starts, it could still be called off.
