How has Virginia pulled this off and Virginia Tech is still waiting on Tyler Bowen to leave the hopeless Jaguars?
Arthur Smith announced Falcons running backs coach Desmond Kitchings will be taking over as the OC at Virginia effective immediately. Will be going forward using a "by committee" coaching endeavor with the RBs.— Tori McElhaney (@tori_mcelhaney) January 3, 2022

Perhaps as part of his deal Bowen wanted to finish out the season?
I think that would have to be the case. Either that, or there was something in his contract with the Jags that would hit him hard if he did leave early.
Sounds like Urban was more of a kicker, but he's gone anyway...
He had the touch of a holder though with those fingers
At this point does it matter than Bowen isn't here? We have the Passing Coordinator and the Running Coordinator, and are past signing day/in the dead period. It is what it is, and only a few days from the end of the season.
Great recruiter, however was fired after one year as OC at NC State. This and other hires makes me think Elliot is going to focus on NC/SC/Ga as part of the recruiting strategy
Or that's just where he has connections, coming from Clemson.
Kit hinge is a really good recruiter. These hires definitely (could) make for a more interesting commonwealth cup.
Yeah very good recruiter and you already have Elliot there for play calling you have to wonder if Elliot is going to continue calling plays. As I recall NCST was not very happy with Kitchings play calling for his short stent at OC
as a VT fan I would approve of this.
Yeah imo jury is still out on if Elliot is a great play caller he seemed to take a long time to adjust with fewer all-stars on offense this year but managed to figure out how to move the ball as the season went on.
Yeah, time will tell. He adjusted in the middle of ACC play (the ACC is garbage), so who knows what that means.
He can recruit. But is that related to the fact that he was at Clemson (who couldn't recruit there?).
He had a great offense for years, but it demanded elite players making elite plays often in "isolation". Schematically I didn't care for his offense and am glad he didn't end up bringing that to Blacksburg (as was rumored last year).
Agreed re the evolution of Clemson's offense. I felt that when Morris came that the offense was truly innovative and was outscheming people and putting talented athletes in space. Once he left, Scott and Elliott continued running the same offense, but it seemed more like a shell of itself. The recruiting level by that point was elite, but those type of players make plays in any system. Elliott as an OC didn't really wow me the last few years.
I was also very underwhelmed by Elliot when the rumor was he was the replacement Whit had lined up in 2020. I kept my mouth shut at the time. especially since I desperately wanted Fuente gone, but for sure I just don't see how he's going to be anything better than a mediocre P5 coach. He's a better OC than Corn I think, since he actually seems to believe in forward passes. But I haven't seen anything from him to indicate that he's doing anything special or that most any competent P5 coordinator couldn't do with blue chip talent, which I have a hard time seeing him replicate in Charlottesville.
The only thing that worries me is he does have first hand experience on how a championship level organization is run. Which is an important quality to have for a HC. I'll take Pry over Elliot, but there are similarities.
Never underestimate the ability of LOLUVA's power structure to mess that up.
Wondered this myself once I found out the Steelers coach Klemm left for Oregon.
maybe it is up to the organization, and the jags just won't let him leave yet? that would be an odd decision, considering the shape they are in right now.
With Harbaugh now being linked to LV and possibly Jax, I'm not sure I'm ready for a second coaching carousel. Michigan won't settle for a coordinator.
My concern is Bowen is waiting for the carousel to keep spinning.
If that was the case, I don't think it would be the absolute end of the world. Glenn and Rudolph are more than capable at being the OC in that situation, and Pry can bring in someone else for TEs
Maybe a certain former VT TE coach that can recruit like crazy?
Harbaugh leaving right after michigan finally make it to the big stage would almost heal my childhood trauma of it was a catch. But in order for that healing to take place I need those officials to feel my pain.
A decade later and it still stings a bit. He caught that damn ball.

Such horseshit.
Or he's just waiting 4 more days to finish out the season with his players before moving onto his next gig at VT. I mean, ESD is already past, there are no practices until the spring, its not like we're losing major recruiting ground by not having him around right now. Seems like a good time to coach out the string and then come over. And, there is something to be said for being able to say you stuck it out with the old team instead of quitting on them after Urb was fired. That in and of itself might resonate with recruits and parents.
My guess is that the delay is purely contractual.
Our lack of an OC hire doesn't give me much confidence at this point. In addition, we're also giving the OC at this point much less say in his assistant coach staff as well, which could be a deterrent.
only if it is not actually bowen. if it is, and it sure seems to be, then we have no idea what went on behind the scenes, and i would think all offensive staff hires were made with his approval.
Yea, IDK if an OC would be all that upset scoring one of the best OL coaches in the country.
Confidence in whom? And why do you think Bowen has had no input on offensive staff hires? Does he not own a phone? I've literally never met anyone I work with in person since I changed jobs in April. I don't even have a badge to get into the building. The only thing he can't do remotely is recruit, and that's only because he isn't allowed.
Maybe I'm missing something, but has Bowen publically acknowledged at this point he's VT's next DC?
That'd be weird since we already announced Chris Marve 😉👉
No, and the assumption most have made is that he's contractually prohibited from publicly accepting another job while still employed. I don't think there's anything bad or sinister in the delay. Much like all the bitching and moaning about why Rudolph took so long to be announced, I don't think the delay means anything bad for VT.
There are plenty of things for us to stress out about that are way more likely to be actual problems. The Bowen Delay is nothing.
Personally I think it's cute that they keep copying all of our moves.
Little brother syndrome.
