Here are the official heights and weights for the incoming Virginia Tech freshmen, thanks to Hokiesports Jimmy Robertson, who can be followed at twitter.com/@jrobIHS
Heights and weights for VT freshmen: Ford (6-3, 193), Pfaff (6-5, 305), McKenzie (5-11, 215), Mihota (6-5, 252) and Williams (5-11, 224)— Jimmy Robertson (@jrobIHS) January 22, 2014
Williams came in at around 10 pounds over the weight he was listed at on recruiting websites. McKenzie is slightly shorter, but has not gained weight while rehabbing his torn ACL. I would like to see Ford play a little heavier and he is likely not finished growing. Braxton Pffaf came in at 6'5 305. His mobility was very impressive in high school, and if his quickness is still a strong suit after a grayshirt year then he will provide quality depth at guard.
The wow guy here is Vince Mihota. Even at 6'5 252, he looks very skinny on film. He has terrific quickness and strength. If he can maintain his quickness, he could be a dominant strong side end once he fills out. I'd imagine that his playing weight will be in the 265 area once he gets in Gentry's gym. It has been a long time since VT had a big, dominant strong side end.

Good god... a potential 6'5 265 DE with quickness?
when Bama offers a defensive end, and WE get him - that's good. I need to hear nothing else.
Move him to quarterb... I'm sorry.
I'll see myself out
Tight end dammit.
It is worth noting, Rivals has now reclassified Marshawn from a 3 star to a 4 star recruit.
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Marshawn-William...
Perhaps they finally caught on that he may actually be the genetically created offspring of Marshawn Lynch and Ricky Williams.
How'd that happen?...
SUCH a bad visual.......

Ever seen the movie Splice?
On second thought... just don't.
Is that the Adrian Brody movie that turned my boner inside out?
Shit....He's going to be good now.
just going to say it now, my guess ... mihota ends up on the OL.
You sure he shouldn't be a TE?
I just think you may be on to something. Let's convert the whole offense to TEs! That way we can have a TE throwing to a TE with TEs keeping the pocket from collapsing. Then the TE can hand off to the TE so that he can run through some lanes made by TEs.
Also if everyone was a TE then there would be no position discussions.
he will put on 20 or 30 lbs easy .. if it's 40, that's damn near 300.
I will say this, his brother exploded in size when he got to UVA so there is the potential for that happen unless they work to keep him lean.
His older brother was obviously a pretty talented Center for UVA but I really hope and think he stays on the defensive line.
Not a chance. DT maybe, just because they are so thin, but no chance on OL. If he can develop leverage moves to go with his bull rush and ability to win shooting the gap on the inside shoulder of the tackles, he could really surprise folks.
i've seen maybe 4 vt dt's taller than 6'3" that played since wiles has been coaching.
That is well and good. To be a OL, you have to block. I don't believe he played any OL his senior year at Massaponax (if he did, not a single play made any highlight reel I can find.) Also, while he is a big kid, he doesn't have a big wide base for lower body leg drive. Even if he gets to 265-270 (I don't think his body can handle more weight than that), he doesn't move like a guy destined for OL, where a guy like Wyatt Teller looked unnatural at DL but perfect at OL.
let's just hope he keeps his quickness then.
No Tech DT has been taller than 6'3" since 2003 -
6'5" - Barry Booker - 2003 Class - made it to the pros
6'4" - Kory Robertson - 2003 Class - made it to the pros
6'4" - Carlton Powell - 2003 Class - made it to the pros
6'4" - Jimmy Williams - 2002 Class - JUCO; dismissed after a year
6'4" - Marc Costen - 1999 Class - Walkon/Earned scholie - got sick & left program
6'4" - Chad Beasley - 1997 Class - made it to the pros
I may be a little off on the measurements, but I believe this to be correct.
heights a lil off, but close. costen and big jimmy don't really count, neither does nick acree since they didn't get much, if any burn.
If Chad Beasley was only 6'4, I will stick my head between my legs and kiss my own ass. He was taller than Jake Houseright and Jake was 6'4.
French...please don't post a picture of that, ok?
Booker... 6 4 listed hokiesports, NFL
Robertson.... 6 3 CBS draft tracker, some 6 2 vt sites, rivals
Powell.... 6 3 nfl combine, 6 2 most other places
Beasley....6 6 nfl combine 6 5 some other places including nfl.com
Engleberger played some T if I remember correctly 6 4... was DE at combine
numbers seemed too high....didn't check Williams and Costen because kinda irrelevant....find it hard to believe these are the only above 6 4 DTs we've had come into the program, but certainly very few (2, or 3 if count Engleberger) were 6 4 or greater and succeeded under current regime.... Powell, Lewis (6 2), Pugh (6 2), Beasley, went to combine... I understand why we want low to the ground DTs, but seems to me that many DTs in the NFL are pretty tall 6 4 ish
hope we put some front 7 in the nfl soon would really help recruiting IMHO.... excited about the guys on the board and the guys in the program.... hopefully our senior class can stick as well (looking a little shaky right now, but once they get into a camp I think we may be surprised)
Were you using a tape measure or just eye balling it?
Also, Mihota has been hurt since around September I believe. Could be part of the reason he's coming in at 252 instead of 240ish? A bum foot will certainly keep you from doing much cardio...
I would rather Williams be slightly over weight than under so thats good. Any extra weight that is not beneficial will easily come off if he is motivated to get playing time early in the spring.
OR Williams is just jacked. A big bruising back is needed. Trey and Caleb are both around 215 so 225-230, assuming he can still move, would be a nice wrecking ball to have.
Oh I have no doubt he could play at that weight. Just saying if it is a little offseason weight it will sort itself out quickly. If he has put on 10 more pounds of power though already, good god.
I think he is just jacked. We will see how it impacts him come spring time.
Could this be #MANBEARPIGPARTDUEX?
Only time will tell.
Mi - man
Ho - bear
Ta - pig
Ancient Native American translation of course.
And I do loves me some ta-ta.
Ah yes, the ol' pig-pig. Tis delicious.
I will be very surprised if we don't see Mihota playing on the Pride and Joy team. A guy with that height needs to be in there blocking kicks.
Speaking of TE's...Don't forget...Bucky Hodges is already 7 feet tall...he will be great at blocking kicks also.
"Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse."
Edit: by English I mean French and by French I mean #LOLUVA
Yeah, he don't get dressed up fer nothin'.
Nope, wrong again. He is currently 7'6"as of this post.
Bucky Hodges just consumed the entire town of Blacksburg...they kicked him off the team because they don't have a helmet big enough to fit his head.
The only one who can stop him is Sam Rogers.
No this sounds like it could be John Engleberger 2.0 which I would be oh so happy with...big mean hard hitting End
Good news on Ford. I expected him at 180-185, needing a RS year to physically mature. If he's 195-200 by fall he might be physically ready to play. You gotta think he'll have the mental part locked down.
I can see him being 205 by fall camp. 8 months of S&C could add 10lbs.
Mark my words he is going to change CFB's tune after the Spring game. After Gentry gets to work on him and gains some weight we could have a true freshman QB come William and Mary.
The reviews of Ford and Mihota will be posted soon. Both are being edited. I will finish a review on McKenzie and Pffaf next week and we will move forward to the rest of the class after signing day.
Can't wait! Always glad to see the film breakdowns. Thanks for your work.
You da man, French!
