Indoor Track and Field - Virginia Tech Invitational

I wanted to give the Indoor Track and Field Team some love.

Their 2022 season starts today at 5 PM with the Virginia Tech Invitational. There is no tv coverage, but Flash Results will update in real time. The event will be split into two days with tomorrow's action beginning at 11 AM.

The Hokies will face athletes from Army, Duke, High Point, Liberty, NC State, Syracuse, Tennessee, UNC, UNC-Charlotte, UVA and VCU.

Some things to note about this year's team.

-Returning 22 All-ACC athletes and 11 All-Americans
-Director of VT Track and Field, Dave Cianelli is the reigning men's indoor coach of the year.
-Men's team are the defending ACC champions after obliterating the competition last year to win by 55 points.

I eyeballed the start list and a couple of people I will be keeping an eye on are:

-Rachel Baxter - Pole Vault - Rachel has dominated the last couple of years and looks to continue that in 2022.

-Lindsey Butler - reigning ACC 800 meter indoor champion (finished 4th at NCAAs) and a 1st Team All-American in both indoor and outdoor. She will be part of an all VT Heat 1 in the 1000 meters.

-Cole Beck - everyone's favorite former football player won the outdoor 100m ACC championship and is looking to continue that success in the indoor season. He will be in prelim heat 2 this evening in the 60 m with the winner of each heat the and the additional top four times overall move on to the finals. He will also be running the 300m this evening.

-Ben Fleming - Finished 16th in the Indoor Track NCAAs in the 3000m and will be joined by three other Hokies in the even this evening.

-Sebastian Anthony - grad transfer from Queens College and a native of Bury St. Edmunds, England. He finished 2nd in the 800 m at the DII Indoor NCAA championships with the 8th fastest time in NCAA DII history. He will be joining Ben Fleming in the 3000m.

-Ben Nibbelink - owns the school indoor record in the mile at 3.58.34 set at the NCAA prelims in 2021.

-Tyson Jones - Shot Put - finished second at the ACC Indoor Championships last year and won the ACC title last year in outdoor track.

-Chauncey Chambers - Triple Jump - finished 17th at the Olympic Trials last summer.

There are also a lot of freshman making their college debut so I will be interested to see how they do as well.
