Watched the YouTube vid of all of Fields plays. Forgot Herbert was on the bears. Looked good. Fields missed him on a wheel where he burned his guy. Would've been a 60 yd TD or something but Fields threw to the other side for a jump ball that was caught.

Jack Bauer fears no one. Except Xavier Adibi.

Herbert with his first NFL TD. Has had his name called a bunch today for his play. Even had a punt rush earlier today hay caused the punter to pull up short and have a punt go off the side of his foot.

Looking more and more likely Joey Slye will get cut by the Panthers. Hasn't been kicking well.

In 4 seasons with the Seahawks, Brown has made more than in 10 with the Texans. Total take from the Texans was 32.3 million. Total take from the Seahawks has been 38.5 million.

Career earnings are over 82 million dollars. That's some serious change.

This is funny.

He's 44 and still dropping dimes Brady is unreal the BUCS looking sharp to start the evening.

Tyrod seems to be playing well for Houston. Slye also signed on as the kicker, Made a 40 yarder

Great TD snag by LT for the WFT!

NFL HOKIES!

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

There's still no other player in the league I want to see succeed more than Tyrod Taylor. Not once in his career has the guy been given a fair shake, great to see him playing so well today

I wanted to draft him in my fantasy league as my backup QB, but I just couldn't trust that the Texans would keep him as the started through week 11 to cover my bye week.

Going into this game I was just soaking up all the Texans Twitter/Reddit doom-and-gloom about Tyrod: he's too old, he can't throw, he's not mobile any more, he's just a placeholder, the Texans aren't going to win a game all year. It happens every time Tyrod goes somewhere new. And, every time, the fans are shocked to find out, hey, he can actually ball, and his teammates absolutely love him.

Reading the same Texans social media this evening, it's nothing but talk of Kool-Aid, playoffs, and "TyGod".

Always underestimated, always shows up to do work.

Tyrod played really good today, the only problem he's gonna get screwed over somehow like he has been on the past three teams he was with (Browns, Bills, and Chargers), especially with how shit the Texans organization been for some time. Houston is still making payments to the Succubus for that Astros World Series (and we all found out how that came).

It took a freaking botched injection to screw him out of his job with the Chargers. I'm always wondering what a franchise will do next to Tyrod. Let the man play!

The Panthers cut Joey Slye in the off-season and today ..... they punted from the Jets' 33 yard line

Was it just me or were the refs in the WFT/LAC game complete suck? I have no idea how they confirmed Herbert's "fumble" into the endzone.

Tyrod proving he very much still has the juice.

That game ending was nuts with baltimores kick team getting left on the field while Carr bombed one for the walk off touchdown. Loved the Eli and Peyton broadcast I could listen to ex pros analyze and break down live games all day.

The end of that game was just electric. Chucky had the Baltimore defense figured out by the 4th quarter and in overtime.

The look on the ravens faces were fantastic. They were shell shocked that the Raiders beat them.

Not sure which of the NFL threads injury updates go to, but Tyrod has been placed on the IR, can't catch a break

Hate it for Tyrod, but the dude did what most other guys never get a chance to do. He's been a combination of a career back up and a part time starter while making millions of $$. I know that competitors just want to compete and that he'd really love to be starting. But when the dust settles he will have done really well for himself.

I'm both parts happy for him and disappointed for him.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Really happy for Chuck Clark, I keep seeing him getting a lot of praise this season.

Has he really played 10 snaps at DT?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Without watching any Ravens games this year, my guess is some kind of blitz formation where he's standing on the DL and doesn't have a hand in the ground.

Gotta be A-gap blitzes where you have that jumble of guys all standing up in a meant-to-confuse mix around the LOS.

That just seems like lazy stat keeping then. If he is playing safety or LB but gives the pre snap A gap blitz you shouldn't count that as DT.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

I'm not agreeing with how they do it.

They used to post this kind of graphic for Isaiah Simmons all the time in that 2019 season at Clemson with similarly questionable distinctions as to what "position" he was playing each snap. It's just a silly thing to get across their positional and schematic versatility - which is usually a fair description of players like this - but they definitely get a little creative in order to add a few more shock value things to the graphic.

DB versatility from the Torrian Gray era was truly something to behold. Kyshoen Jarrett did similar things to this before his terrible nerve injury for WFT. We moved Kyle Fuller and Kendall to multiple spots in the secondary and they were successful everywhere. Kendall has since showed the ability to play outside corner, slot corner, and safety in the NFL (helped clinch a super bowl from that position).

With David Montgomery hurt, Khalil Herbert split RB duties last game for the Bears and looked fairly good. He's getting some love on the fantasy sites if you're in a bind for RB help, especially in deeper leagues

Well the Bears #2RB just got put on the covid list. Khalil Herbert is likely gonna be the starter with a full workload against the Packers this Sunday. Last chance to get on the Hype Train before it leaves the station. CHOO-CHOO!

Herbert with his first NFL touchdown! Should have picked him up for fantasy....

What we do in life, echoes in eternity

I picked him up on Fantasy. He was a bargain! Looking good out there.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Facyson and Kendall fuller both had interceptions. Herbert got almost 100 yards and a touchdown, and Darrisaw had an impressive first start. Not a bad Sunday.

yeah, I think we're chasing shadows here - I've seen players on SNF/MNF call out high schools and/or hometowns for years now - it's nothing new and I doubt seriously that it's any indication of their thoughts about the state of the program. I would expect most current NFL players to be so absorbed in their jobs-at-hand anyway that they wouldn't have time to be as in-tune with the VT football program as the fans are. I'm sure they see the scores and probably wish the team was winning more but I doubt they give it much more thought than that. Frankly, they have bigger, more important, things to focus on at the moment.

Onward and upward

I think there are a few cases where the player didn't call out his university ever because he legitimately didn't like it there. Willie Parker never shouted out UNC for that reason.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Aaron Rodgers has repped Butte Community College and I doubt anyone at Cal cares. I'm pretty sure I've heard other guys say their elementary school. It's a nothing-burger here.

I think they're just having fun with it because hearing 20 guys say "Alabama" and "THE Ohio State University" every game gets boring. Also see: Ball So Hard University.

school of hard knocks blah blah blah

but in a sea of OSU and Clemson and LSU and Bamas, i sure would love to hear a Virginia Tech when there's one to be heard

Big fat nothing burger - correct.

Farley getting diced up by these bills so far

Needs to break down and keep his feet; doing a little too much diving at air

Now he's out with what looks like a serious knee/leg injury :'(

He's had a ROUGH rookie season. He's been hurt most of it. When he hasn't been hurt, he's been getting cooked. And there's been mixed reports on his practice performances too. Plenty of Titan fans already writing him off as a bust. I'm a Titans fan that won't go that far (maybe its my Hokie bias showing thru), but its definitely not the start anyone would hope for. Hope his injury isn't too serious and he can start making some progress.

Torn ACL..... 😢😡

Hope he comes back strong

Oof, that's a bummer. At least he's proven he can come back from a torn ACL (is this the same knee?).

Obviously I wish he were playing and would never wish the surgery+recovery process on anyone, but I can't help but think the NFL's CBA makes this injury mostly irrelevant to his career/financial outlook. He's on a fully guaranteed four-year $13.945 million contract (with a fifth year option), so he has years until his next contract negotiations. It's a "what have you done for me recently?" league and everyone gets injured at some point, so missing a rookie year doesn't seem like a big deal when it'd be so far in the rearview mirror by his second contract. Sure this won't help him with endorsements or performance bonuses and he won't be making any all-rookie teams, but the silver lining I'm trying to grab onto is that this might be the best time in his career for this injury to occur. Get well, Caleb!

Glad he caught it for a TD but only 1 target isn't great :(

Pitts looked pretty good in that game. Makes it look like the Falcons' FO made the right pick at #4.

Bears got trucked by the Bucs but Herbert is showing everyone he is the truth. No TDs today but 100 rushing (over 5 ypc) and 33 rec yards. Even when Montgomery comes back, gonna be hard to keep him off the field.

I'm a pretty big David Montgomrey fan, I think the biggest thing about these 2 is how they complement each other. They have very similar running styles and are both incredibly hard to bring down

Haven't seen any of the game, but I'd have to guess he was rusty coming off IR. Hopefully he gets back to early season form quickly.

He was a beast yesterday!

He just got paid today too! 4 Yrs 56.8 mil.

I don't think he's actually been better than Najee, but I do think he's been the second best rookie back so far, and could lead the Bears to move on from David Montgomery. That would be a HUGE vote of confidence in Herbert.

Bears player who was just activated from the practice squad got a huge sack on 3rd & 15 and then got flagged for taunting ....... Thankful to the NFL for thinking of the children watching the game /s

Not a Chicago or Steelers fan (Panthers, don't tell anyone), but Chicago got screwed last night by the refs. To the point that I think they should be investigated for any personal interests. The illegal low block that was not illegal that took away a touchdown, the uncalled obvious roughing the passer call on third down that would have given Chicago 1st and goal. The above taunting call was as borderline as it gets, I don't agree with it, but he was technically taunting...but then the ref actually hip-checked the player as he is running back to the sideline. I just wish Marsh had taken his towel and thrown it in the air after the contact by the ref.

I'm biased as a Bears fan but the refs totally screwed that one. He didn't even touch the guy on the low block and Justin Fields got mauled after the whistle a few times with no flag.

that hip check is maybe the most blatant example of biased officiating I've ever seen in the NFL

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I just watched the clip. Holy crap, the ref threw a flag on him after hip checking him?

He was already pulling out the flag before he even backed into him, WTF. Yeah, if I'm a Bears fan I'm pissed.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

The flag was for taunting because he danced/posed while staring down the Steelers sideline (the Steelers cut him in preseason so I guess it was a "you messed up by cutting me" message).

Still a BS call, but the NFL has been making an effort to call more of it this year. I think the hip check portion was just the ref being uncoordinated.

nah watch his eyes, he lined the dude up before contact. 100% dirty

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:

Even if there's no nefarious personal interests at stake, that officiating crew, especially Tony Corrente, shouldn't be allowed to call any more games. They may not be on the take, but they are clearly incompetent. I had no rooting interest in that game to frame my bias and to me, Chicago was clearly screwed.

Looks like Tyrod got benched today for Houston after generating only 45 yards of passing offense and 15 yards rushing. 😬 The entire team is not good, but that's rough.

Uncharacteristically, Tyrod has been terrible this year. At least since coming back from injury. Regardless of the talent around him, he's usually a pretty safe and reliable QB. Nothing eye popping, but efficient, won't turn the ball over and can move the ball down field. But he's turning it over a ton and nothing is going right for him.

Not a ton of talent on this Houston team.

I know french tweeted it but Edmunds did his best 2019 Holifield impression last night he was constantly getting pinned in the wash and unable to fill gaps. Bills had a rough go with the run even playing 9 in the box the entire game.

(add if applicable) /s

Edmonds- I was thinking the same thing last night- he was having a tough time getting in position, and was washed out of the play on many occasions. If you don't like the running game, last night was not a ball game to watch. Tough , physical possession football . I was impressed with the tackling of the back four for Buffalo, though. They took a beating last night.

I mean part of it was how close to the LOS they were playing but any time the offensive line got any push he was a non-factor. The Bills did have a few consecutive very good tackles and run stops they just couldn't do it quite enough

(add if applicable) /s

Tyrod will not start for the remainder of Houston's games this season

Disappointed for TT5 but I can't really blame the Texans. They've got to see what they have in Mills.

I don't want the new stadium in VA, but they really need to knock this dump down.

Railings aren't designed for that kind of stupidity/load.

Edit for some clarity: railings are required to support a 250 lb concentrated load at any point on the rail. Can't speak exactly to what happened here. But I can definitely say I've seen many railings fail when a bunch of people leaned on them and shook them. Watched a whole bunch get torn out at the amphitheater in charlotte. Idiot Mudvayne fans, if I remember right.

I mean if it was the first thing this season from that stadium, it would make more sense, but it's like the 3rd at least.

Also you could've just said Eagles fans instead of stupidity. it's implied.

Really cool to see back to back "Virginia Tech" intros on SNF for Deablo and Facyson.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

I was thinking the same. Didnt realize Facsyon is starting

Did he get hurt or did he get benched after that dumb illegal contact on 3rd and 18?

Al Michaels just mentioned that he was benched after that penalty. He's been playing in the second half, and had a shitton of targets, or whatever it's called when you're the defender on a targeted receiver

And he was just benched again

This game not ending in a tie is one of the most disappointing things possible. At least it looks like Deablo and Facsyon will be going bowling to the playoffs

👀

I almost spoke it into existence 🥲😪😪

I think the Chargers spoke it out of existence with that timeout. They signaled that shenanigans might be afoot and the Raiders decided to go for the win.

I disagree- they let the playclock drop to 5 and game clock to 37 before the TO. Looked pretty clear they were calling a TO to try to setup the stop on 3rd down but also have enough time off so the next play could end the game. They didnt plan on giving up 10 yards and a first down

Danny is always open

It's ultimately meaningless and impossible to prove either way, but imo calling that timeout signaled that they might call another timeout to give Herbert ~30 seconds to get into a FG range themselves IF they get the third down stop. It may well have meant nothing, and the Raiders were going to run the ball and attempt to gain a first down either way, but it's definitely a thought many had while watching.

That doesn't make sense to me. Why run on that 3rd down then? Perhaps it was just a creative call paired with solid execution, but it seemed like the Raiders would have let the clock run out had Jacobs been stopped on 3rd down. The Chargers calling a timeout preserved fewer than five seconds and IMO wasn't an attempt to preserve clock. If it was, why would the coaches wait so long to stop the clock?

Put in Donlon

There were a few players after the game who seemed to mouth a few things along we were going to take the tie to the point where I imagine they may very well have been playing for the tie. Gotta suck for charger fans seeing Herbert saying how bad he wanted the tie at the end of the game.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

That's what I thought, and that's what Collinsworth and Michaels thought as well (for what that's worth) based on their reactions when LA called it.

To me, it was clear that Oakland was content to run out the clock without attempting to score, as evidenced by their lack of hurry-up, lack of calling either of their TOs, and lack of passing.

LA fucked up big time with that TO.

Looks like it will be Facyson matched up against Chase today. Will be a tough task for Facyson, Chase is a beast.

3 receptions already on this 1st drive

Dang, scary stuff.

Deablo got concussed on a tackle in the 2nd quarter and Facyson just took a hit and everyone on the field immediately and urgently signaled for the training staff to come out.

I'm pretty sure he's said it before but switched it up this year

You're a little late, we talked about this in this thread months ago, but its game day and booze gets after ya/s

Welp, my Eagles might have lost but at least we didn't get our soul ripped out of our chests like the Cowboys. 😁

The way the cowboys lost that game was a thing of beauty.

The Cowboys ripped their own soul out of their chest.

And it was glorious

I feel like QB draw with 18 seconds left is worse than Fuente calling a timeout on a 60 yard field goal.

McCarthy and maybe Kellen Moore shouldn't have a job by Monday.

The odds you score on two throws from the 40 are greater than 1 throw from the 30, right? The run didn't even make sense.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Yes but really the real winner here is all of America cause aint nobody sad to see them lose in such a comical way. I'm a Pats fan and even after we got pantsed in primetime atleast by the 3rd quarter I was half playing halo and watching the offensive series without much care anymore. Having that carrot dangling so seductively in the 4th for the cowboys to throw it away on a botched call was pure poetry after all the hype and crap they talked all year long.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

It was a bad play call compounded by even worse decision making by Dak.

1. He has to know he needs to get down so he can spike the ball. He just kept running because the field was open and the yards were there.

2. He has to know the ref needs to set the ball before the next play. Could've saved a second by simply handing the ball to the ref. Instead, Dak handed it to the center and then the OL walled off the ref from having easy access to the ball.

They also forgot you need a minimum of 3 seconds to spike the ball. If they were going to run the ball like that the next play should have been a pass.

As an Eagles fan I really was not expecting much from them. Even making the postseason seemed like a crazy goal at the start of the year. The lack of competitiveness was a bummer, but all in all I'm not terribly disappointed. The Oline will be good next year even if Kelce retires, and they've got some young weapons to work with. Playmaking LB or defensive end at least with one of their 3 1st round picks (I doubt they use all 3), and look at options at QB because I don't think Hurts is the answer but they can win games with him if some other areas are improved.

Now, as for the Cowboys...that was delicious. Growing up in the Philly area I knew tons of folks that were Cowboys fans that had never once been to Texas. Tons of them here in Arizona as well.

For all the shit they talked all year, it was beautiful to watch Big $$ Dak make that 2 cent play.

Another crazy day of NFL playoffs! A massive Ryan Tannehill interception, some dude named Evan making bombs, a snow game in Green Bay, and the sports world turning out to take, um, shots at Aaron Rodgers after another playoff loss. It's everything I hoped it would be so far.

Bring on Buffalo/KC and Tampa Bay/LA!

Rogers being 0-4 against the 49ers in the playoffs is gold.

Watching Green Bay melt down today was boner inducing.

Rogers should have done some more research about the team he was facing. Maybe would have had a better shot at winning. Hopefully he accepts the results of the final Score though.

I go with more Special Teams was shit all season and that bit them in the ass, 10 points given up by Special Teams which probably have the score be 13/16 to 3.
This pic was fucking funny last night.

Also pic below is 10 players on the field for GB, that's full on Derp and a half where Special Teams coach needs to listen to the Herp Derp song on 24 hour loop for the HILARITY.

I am with you on it was the special teams fault. Blocked field goal and punt. That was the game.

Rodgers was 20/29 for 280 yards. He got the job done for the most part. Would have liked to have seen some more deep shots, but the 49's had fun with the constant rebuilt Oline for the Packers.

TB12 going down would be the perfect playoff situation that doesn't involve WFT.
Dallas loses painfully. ✔️

TB12 losing. ✔
TB12 retiring. ?

It's sad that this is all I can look forward to as a WFT fan....

Edited for unexpected wishes....lol

With the exception of the Bengals/Titans game (because I honestly didn't care about that one), I was hoping for all the road teams to win this weekend. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brady to lose. Maybe Aaron Donald can challenge his inner Lawrence Taylor.... As a Dallas fan, I am sort of hoping that the Rams win the NFC (although it would be kind of cool for Tapp to go to the Super Bowl) .. However since my Boys shat the bed last week, I am really hoping for the Bills to win it all.

Bills or Bengals would be cool. Aside from Tapp I want to see the Niners lose

Agreed. I am going Bills because of Tremaine.. Hokie from my hometown needs some bling.

That was stressful, and I'm not a fan of either. Holy shit, I need to go smoke after these games.

What a weekend of football more proof a bigger playoff field would ruin the game. Feel bad for the bills getting fucked by the OT rule. Someone had to win it but not even getting a shot is kinda crappy. Having the game get done by a coin toss is kinda piss poor

Yes college isn't perfect either, especially with the two point conversion rule, but Josh Allen deserved another shot. The defense cost Buffalo the game at the end of regulation and OT.

In overtime, your whole team should have an influence on the game.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

I go with Defensive Coordinates get too derp and just do prevent defense when everybody knows to just throw short to Kelce and Hill and let them run for almost 50 yards into field goal range or defense shouldn't let KC get that TD on their previous drive.

I forgot about the kick to endzone by Buffalo, congrats Bills you got an Andy Reid disciple so take it from Iggles fan for timeouts wasted and blown leads.

Kinda hard to agree with a take like this when you can apply the same logic to the Chiefs awful defense and yet they get handed the game anyway.

Chiefs won it on the coin toss. Ten coats of faulty logic won't cover the stain of wrong on that wall.

(I live in MO and I was cheering for the Chiefs).

At a certain point, just fold the Bills franchise for the sake of the fans. This is just cruel and unusual punishment now.

The only thing worse than listening to Romo is the NFL overtime rule. Another reason I find the NFL boring 95% of the time. The other 5% is games like this.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Football and sudden death is crap to me. KC fans are loving it now but they know all to well why it sucks look at the NE OT win a few years ago. Take away the sudden death and have a 15 minute overtime and let both teams get a shot don't do the college two point crap. In the regular season I don't have an issue with the formatting but in a playoff game you can't keep the sudden death stuff around.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Just do the first team to blink loses. Coin toss decides who chooses to kick/receive the ball first as current, and the game proceeds from there, largely as normal. If you score on offense, you kick the ball off the the other team who has one possession to match or exceed you, or else they lose. If you score on defense, you win. If you score on a punt return, you win.

It's basically college rules but with real drives instead of "here, have the ball in field goal range and try not to choke"

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Cant disagree with that method at all. To me in sports where you have attackers and defenders on the field at all times I'm all for sudden death but football cant be sudden death like it currently is. I feel bad for Allen who did all he could and was just left to watch all because he lost a coin toss.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I hate the NFL overtime rules (I am a Bills' fan yes), always have. BUT! Thebfreakin defense had THREE separate chances to not blow coverage. Tremaine bit on covering a swinging RB/TE (don't remember) and Tyreek Hill was left WIDE OPEN with green grass in front of him for a go-ahead. Then the best TE in the league was left wide open for the play to set up a FG to tie. 13 seconds should not be enough for someone to go 44 yards and tie the game. Nor should you ever not squib that kick. Buffalo lost that game more than KC won it.

And I'm heartbroken.

I usually listen to the Missaneli show on the Fanatic streaming and last week after they beat the Bills he talked at length that it was sheer luck that Reid and the Chiefs still had all 3 time outs left at the end, given his penchant for screwing the pooch on time management.

Whoa! Did not see this Super Bowl match up., but not complaining.. Sucks that Tapp won't get a ring, but should be a somewhat interesting Super Bowl, especially without all the usual players.

2 time Longwood grad married to a Hokie.

Interesting. The RAMS went all in this year with the current team to try and win a superbowl this year. For a long time, it looked like they wouldn't even make the playoffs. Then all of a sudden, they are going to the superbowl.

I will be honest, I had ZERO interest in a 49ers/Chiefs superbowl. I will probably watch the Bengals/Rams. Bengals were BAD for so long that I will be cheering for them.

I am really glad that we have "new" teams in the SB. I want to pull for the Bengals but I just really want to see Stafford win a SB after suffering for so long in Detroit. Cincy will have a chance to go back with how young their team is. This is probably Staffords last chance. Routing for the old man to hoist the trophy.

I will give you Stafford suffered for years. Think of poor Megatron at least Stafford eventually got out.

I don't have anything against the RAMS, so would be happy for either team. Okay here is the true question, which team/staff has more Hokies?

There are no Hokies left. The only one in the final four was on SF staff.

I saw something about a Hokie equipment staffer alum on the Rams maybe

Alas, that is what I suspected. In that case, happy with either team winning. Bengals for being a laughing stock of the NFL for how many decades or Stafford finally getting recognition for being a good QB.

Yeah but if Stafford wins then we have to question whether or not Joey Harrington could have won the superbowl if on a different team and do you really want to open that can of worms? /s

Tony Romo- dipshit that he is- great comment about the "Bengals should let the Chiefs score" at the end of regulation. Wonder if he still feels that way- what a dope. Dude always thinks he is the smartest in the room.

man... I'm sure I'll still watch the game, but I dont know that I have cared less about a SB matchup since the Indy/Chicago Super Bowl. I think any of the other 3 possible matchups (SF-KC, SF-Cincy, LA-KC) would have been way more interesting to watch.

I don't know, its kind of interesting to see a game without any of the "usual suspects" as far as players/teams are concerned.

After getting disregarded for his whole career because he had the bad luck of playing for one of the worst run franchises in the NFL, it could be pretty cool to watch Stafford get a ring. I think Burrow might be my favorite of the great to elite young QBs in the AFC right now. Guy is just a cool, confident dude. Everyone was tripping over themselves last week talking about the Mahomes/Allen rivalry over the next decade, and Burrow is the one left standing with objectively the 3rd best team out of them. So that will be fun to watch, and he might set some records if they keep that WR group intact for the long term.

End of the day, I want the Bengals to win because that would just be an awesome turn of events given their last several decades of history.

Kind of a dud game compared to the last few but a good game still. Line play wins all day long and burrow and Bengals looked a bit fazed in the 4th.

All that said if that was Al Michaels last call on Sunday night football that sucks he's been so good for so long. Really hope they aren't replacing him with tirico I don't think he's a very good play by play.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I thought Michaels was awful last night, which is weird for him. Don't think I've heard a less enthusiastic booth for a close big game ever?

I like Tirico in the MC/host seat like they have him do for the Olympics and for studio stuff, but don't love him in the booth either. Think there is some younger broadcasting talent I would be trying to target - Romo has made people forget that Nantz is better suited for golf (or he has for me at least), and the lead Fox booth is meh and probably is locked in for another decade I would think. Shaking things up with a young lead for SNF and big games like the super bowl would be nice.

So if you look it up al michaels did an interview on howard stern the other day where howard asked him about it and it got kind of awkward. Rumors are Al didnt want to step away but seems hes being pushed to step away by NBC but he wouldnt say directly. I'd imagine the poor call last night was more of its coming to an end and maybe he was pissed to be pushed out like that maybe. It was defintely one of his most subdued calls though.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Yeah he's been on the decline the last few years, but it's hard not to be when you've been one of the best in your field for so long. Of course his back probably hurts from having to carry Cris Collinsworth every game, too.

I thought the game itself was fun to watch. Though refball likes to come in and try to ruin it, at least there will be much shitposting with Bengals showing why an O-line is needed, Eli Apple shit coverage, OBJ making Browns (Edit: I said Giants instead of Browns, meant to say Browns, that's what happens when I drink three straight days with a hangover for 2 days) fan mald, and Patt Statfford showed up a few times.

I had the game muted while I had it on one screen and listened a stream of a sport shitposter on another so don't know how Al Micheals call was, but at least I didn't have to hear Collinsworth "WeLl T'eReS aY gUy!". With it muted I definitely missed halftime show, but the only time I'm probably going to watch it if the performers were Dying Fetus, Amon Amarth, Wind Rose, or Powerwolf and I know that's NEVER going to happen because of dumb reasons.

In my mid-40's, been watching football my entire life... This was the best NFL post season I've ever watched.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I have to agree with this.

Playoffs were great, was a competitive Superbowl where you had to watch to the end.

I was sort of rooting for the Rams because I have respect for a QB like Stafford sticking it out for twelve years in Detroit, and I also wanted to see Donald get a ring, but after that egregious facemask + swim move uncalled OPI on Tee Higgins that completely shifted the game, I started rooting HARD for the Rams. I think Burrow/Chase are fun to watch, and I think they'll probably get another shot in the future.

Great game, I was more impressed with Stafford after watching the LA run game get stuffed. He basically was had to win the game with his arm. The Bengals D front 7 was better than I thought- Dbacks were in an all night foot race- they held up pretty good, considering . The Bengals line- run blocking is good, their pass blocking not so much- 20 sacks in the playoffs is a lot. Burrow will be back- he is too good - they need a couple O linemen, and they are good to go.

Worth noting that Warren Sharp posted about how the Bengals OL gave up a pressure rate of 43% in the SB... that's exact pressure rate the Dolphins OL gave up through week 15 (I haven't seen the final numbers). Tua has been living in OL hell for two seasons.

I agree about Stafford being impressive. While Kupp had a great game, Stafford had to drive the field with rag-tag bunch after the OBJ injury, and Higbee already out heading into the game. Third string TE, bozos like Skowronek (who had two egregious blunders this postseason including that dropped pass to pick in this game), and Kupp getting the "anyone but him" treatment between the 20's. Really impressive performance from him, he was MVP for me or Donald. Kupp would have been my third choice.

Hot Take: Burrow might be the next Dan Marino. The talent is obviously there and he should be able to get his team to the playoffs rather consistently but I have doubts in the Cincinnati organization to surround him long term with the pieces needed to win it all.

Without knowing who hits free agency this off-season I think the only parts they are missing are some upgrades on the OL. The way Burrow got pressured the whole postseason it was impressive that they made it to the SB let alone having a chance to win it at the end.

Also worth noting - During the regular season they lost games by 5 points (once) and 3 points (4 times). That's a lone drive away per game from a 15-2 season instead of a 10-7. In those losses Burrow was sacked 4, 5, 3, 3, and 3, and I think you can easily argue that a sack in each of those situations was a drive killer. You fix the OL, you fix the sacks, and a decent enough percentage of those failed drives get converted into points.

I think a solid OL in the draft plus a veteran (or two) pickup in FA fixes a lot of problems.

They have the 31st pick in the draft this year and the FA pool of OL isn't stellar. They have cap space but if you are an unrestricted OL FA, with equal money being offered, would you play for the Bengals or the Chiefs who also are wanting better OL play?

Also it's a question of how much will remain with coaches getting new job offers, other teams improving, and the rise of QBs across the league.

I'm not fully sold on my take but I can just see the scenario down the line of Burrow not getting a ring and being known as Dan Marino 2.0.

Well they have half the OL. The left side of their OL is fine. They need to rebuild the right. (Their LG struggled against Donald... but it's also Donald). They could have a better defense, but their defense certainly wasn't the issue, and he has perhaps the best weapons in the NFL... Chase is a top 3 WR, your 2nd WR is Tee Higgins, who is a thousand yard guy and WR1 elsewhere, and your third WR is Tyler Boyd who has multiple thousand yard seasons. Uzomah is a high end, athletic receiving TE as well, and Mixon is a top 10 back easily, who can run and catch out of the backfield.

I like Burrow a lot, but the surrounding cast argument isn't a strong one imo. The OL, which is critical, is worthy of pointing out they need improvement, but that offense is absolutely chock full of weapons. I'm not sure anyone in the NFL has a better set-up.

I didn't realize until watching last night's game how much Cincy had invested in FAs to build up the defense. Cincy's sudden rise suddenly made it a lot more sense knowing that.

I mean ultimately I think Cincy had a sneaky Super Bowl caliber team, but LAR brought out serious cash to make sure this year was their year. My prediction is if anything this LAR team will go the way of Denver after their last superbowl. They put all their chips on the table to win it this year and they're going to be paying the price for that down the line.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Yep, really both of the last two super bowl winners (Bucs and Rams) followed a similar strategy. They went all in a 2-3 year window to win it all and it paid off for both.

I would just throw out when Carolina made it's run with Cam you could say the same thing, spend a little in the offseason to shore up some holes and make another run but it didn't materialize. Fast forward and the organization is left rebuilding.

I agree on the terms of the OL being critical, and that the Bengals (historically) seem like a franchise that will not make the most of this moment. I was mostly just pointing out that while I think Burrow may end up being special, I do think he has, by a significant distance, the best situation of any of the 1st and 2nd year young QB's. He has two guys he can basically just chuck up it up to and reasonably expect them to make plays consistently, Boyd as a third option might be the best third option in the NFL, paired with a very good receiving threat TE and RB. He is in a good spot, and I think people are putting him ahead of the pack based on this playoff run, where he didn't really play that great and they won a lot of very close (and lucky, imo) games. Comparing him to Marino seems way too soon for me, but If you're right on this you will def have "called it" bragging rights for calling it so early.

Genuinely have to feel bad for Bengals fans. The team sucks so consistently, but when they make the run, they get excruciatingly close to winning the Lombardi before it gets ripped away.

3 super bowl losses by a combined 14 points. The last 2 games saw a 4th quarter lead taken by the opponent within the final 90 seconds of the game. Oof

Yep I feel for em. they suffer for years under ol' One 'N Done Lewis, keeping them thinking the corner is just around the corner, then they fall back into disarray, and now a sneaky SB run that ends the way the other 2 did.

They appear to be set up well for the future, but you never know in the NFL.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Wasn't sure how to create a new thread, but Calvin Ridley got his wish to not be playing for the Falcons next year. I just don't think this is the way he envisioned it happening.

Seems he went the Pete Rose route of betting on his team last year. He had opted out to focus on mental health for part of the season and had placed parlay bets.

His $11M contract comes off the books, and if reinstated, he'll be under contract next year. So now we're about $3M under the cap before any restructures.

So we got that going for us.

Denver receives: Russell Wilson, 4th Round pick
Seattle receives: Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, Noah Fant, 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 5th Round pick

Packers tried to be the news of the day and Denver goes "hold my beer"

Russell is good but they WAY overpaid. Denver, just shaking my head.

Yeah I do think draft picks can be overvalued - if you can get a sure thing, why do you need the dice roll of a draft pick, even a first rounder? But they just gave up a lot, and are unlikely to even get a single division title out of it with Mahomes and Herbert there. Best case scenario, they just became a fringe wild card team.

Yeah 5 picks and 3 players for 1 player and 1 pick. I just can't see it.

Denver's been trying to go full on Superbowl run for the past couple years with a really good defense just some bad coaching hires and Elway wants a tall, white QB even if that QB isn't good (he stepped down from day to day operations so the GM can actually get a QB that wasn't tall and white).

Chargers probably going to still Charger with a head coach that thinks analytics is end all be all instead of being an actual tool, it's not perfect but it shouldn't be disregarded. Also funny to see Charger's Twitter post with PAIN and a person screaming in background (gotta love sports shitposting).

Chiefs are a weird one because they got cocky this season where they could have missed the playoffs but everyone in front of them went full retard and twisted their feet and stumbled onto another AFC Championship loss with Reid (get use to it KC, take it from an Iggles fan).

I don't think Elway is a racist, but if he is, 1. He knows a little about QB skill set in the NFL. and 2. How many short/non white QBs have won superbowls?

Does that skill set include a 5'11" 213 Running back with a 40 time that is almost as slow as the QBs? Cause that worked out really well for him.

I do t even know what to say other than WTF

Washington is gonna be left to pick between Garrapolo and Trubisky arent they?

I am a washington fan, but who in their right mind with a real career would want to come play at washington. shit show personified.

I love grant and danny in the evenings and being big WFT fans I felt they were a bit over confident that WFT could pull a big QB with the bad situation currently ni washington. They lack weapons, an o line and dont have immense cap either not really a good option for a free agent or top QB looking for a trade.

Try Wentz, Carson.

As a Philadelphia sports fan, I love this so so much.

Ben Simmons coming back to town tomorrow, and facing Wentz twice a year when Washington has no OLine and limited weapons! Thank you sports gods

2024: $21M salary, $6.235M roster bonus

LOOOOOOOOOOL! Guess it's time for a drinking celebration to see the tortured franchise to be even more tortured for Slaneesh's amusement.

Thats a tasty 40K reference

What a terrible trade for a way overpaid and overrated QB. He was the Achilles heel in a team with a top tier oline and a amazing back in Taylor which should tell you all you need. Such a dan Snyder Washington football move.

A Eagles fan talking about a team with no weapons...lol...when your weapons are Goedert, Hurts and......
Washington had the 6th ranked oline last year. If that's bad, I'll take it....
See you in September....

Fire Dan Snyder into the sun. That is all.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

LMAO Washington. From all of Indianapolis:

oof, sounds like the Colts were prepared to cut Wentz and assume $15m in dead money until the Commies came in, desperate after losing out on Wilson, and bailed them out

Other people have said there were other teams interested in Wentz. But, it's still hilarious and I love it
