The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Thursday that Virginia Tech's wrestling match at NC State scheduled for Friday night in Raleigh has been cancelled due to multiple Tech student-athletes being unable to compete.
Per current ACC policies, the match will be ruled a forfeit. The Hokies are scheduled to resume action at Pitt on Friday, Jan. 28.
Tech's biggest ACC dual of the meet cancelled due to COVID. There are 6 weeks left in the season, yet the ACC wrestling policy doesn't allow for a reschedule. Total BS.
I know we would have been underdogs, but this ruling will basically end any possibility of the ACC Dual title. Truly an unfair ruling of policies between the revenue and non-revenue sports.

Well that sucks.
The ticket cancellation email from NC State didn't mention COVID at all, they just made it sound like we wussed out because of the snow or something.
"Due to a decision within the Virginia Tech Wrestling program, NC State's wrestling match on Friday, January 21st has been cancelled."
They are of course only offering ticket exchanges.. for UVA or UNC :/
WTF is this? Every other sport that's had multiple players out in basketball or football was conveniently postponed. Why the hell does the ACC have a different policy on a sport by sport basis?
NC State refused to reschedule so Tech was forced to forfeit the match. Coach Pop oranged out trying to preserve his guys rankings. Tech coaches are not happy.

NC State was mad that they couldn't close out down the stretch on the court so they decided to take the easy win on the mat

Doesn't matter. Probably who finishes top 3 at 149 at the acc tournament will get a automatic tourney bid

Would really like to dispute that if its a covid + no reschedule that sucks. If we've got enough wrestlers not making weight that we didn't even travel that's embarrassing especially for a top 10 program.

The weather and weight issue stuff is some crazy bullshit some of their fans made up. You don't get a much better source than Devin Carter and when it's supported by guys with connections like Pat Mineo I'm going to go with them. A COVID outbreak doesn't make Tech look bad, it makes the ACC look bad because they couldn't reschedule the most important wrestling match of the year.

That makes it far less cool from a title standpoint, but it is what it is I suppose. At least they will get to compete.

Virginia Tech was missing a bunch of wrestlers, including a number of starters, for COVID but it wasn't enough to meet the threshold the ACC set for a cancellation. NC State refused to reschedule so Tech decided to forfeit instead of travel with a depleted lineup.
