Oh my God, please bless this family.
This is so horrible. I can't even imagine the pain he must feel.
man this is awful
Really hope Jadan's dad pulls through
I can't even imagine. Really hope he pulls through.
Prayers for Jadan and his family
Prayers for healing and peace.
That is horrible. Prayers for that young man, his father and his family. Godspeed that his dad recovers.
Praying for your family Jadan. God bless.
It would be nice to get something organized for the family. I'm not sure the avenues to go through.
Unfortunately, anything of that sort should have to go through the compliance office.
I figured as much I'm hoping that compliance can come up with something that allows fans to help the family
We can pay them now, but god forbid we do some shit to help their family through a rough time.
Oh no π
Prayers for the family.
Here is an "article" (really just a blurb) that appears to be about him: https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/bs-md-ci-cr-walker-ave-homicide-...
Hopefully justice is served.
Wow that's rough and seems so random. Bmore is no joke. I hope they catch the piece of trash.
So terrible. There are some places in the U.S. they have simply become unsafe to live. Baltimore is one of these.
I do hope and pray the person who took Mr. Blue's life and ripped apart a family will be brought to justice soon.
I live a few minutes drive from where this happened and it's really not that bad of an area. Baltimore can change quickly from block to block but I've walked near that street and did not feel unsafe. It's really terrible this happened to him.
Yeah, Bmore is such a block by block city. I've walked through the absolute projects to get to my friend's house which is in a good part of Fells. This wasn't like it was west Baltimore. Which makes it so much more random.
From the article:
Quick overview of what you can do if in the future, you're in a similar situation as Mr. Rivera:
If someone is shot:
Get somewhere safe
Call 911
Stop the bleeding with pressure (seriously, you might have to use your knee to provide enough pressure), or dressing
For seal-sucking wounds, seal the hole as best you can with a dressing to avoid the lungs collapsing
Don't elevate the legs
Put an unconscious person in the recovery position
Except
Avoid moving wounded limbs.
Never move someone with gunshot wounds to the neck or back.
Wait he was on the phone with Jaden when it happened? Can you even imagine?
My heart goes out to this young man and his family with prayers for comfort for them in this impossibly tragic situation.
Terrible to read. I can't imagine what goes through your head hearing that.
Rest in peace Mr Blue
Horrific. Just so senseless. Thoughts and prayers for his family and Baltimore in general.
Oh god, this poor kid and his family. Oof.
What is the NCAAs stance on these types of gofundme's for athletes families?
Bad
Granted I just looked at it briefly, but if the university didn't set it up (or boosters), then why would the NCAA give a hoot anyway? If it's something originally started by the company of the deceased to help the family I don't see where they would have any jurisdiction to say anything. Am I missing something?
I was simply asking out of curiosity because I don't know the answer l, and I'd hate to see him run afoul of the NCAA, they're not not exactly known for practicing common sense
I took it as a genuine question. I don't think it involves them, at least I hope not. No reason to IMO. Between a man and his family. Along with Hokie Nation supporting him to hopefully his best season yet.
I took it as a genuine question as well and didn't mean any attitude in my post. It looked (from my cursory review anyway) that this wasn't initiated by VT itself (or agents), so you would hope the NCAA would leave it alone.
But I totally agree with you that logic and common sense are in woefully short supply over there.
Account was set up by friends of the family (coworkers with Jaden's father at Amtrak.) I have donated and I hope others do to. I am the midst of losing my dad... slowly, but every day I either spend time with him or I talk with him at length. I get to tell him I love him. I can't imagine losing my dad the way this kid did.
The dad's name is James Blue, by the way, if anyone is looking for the account.
I'm sure they could use the support. I donated today.
I lived in Baltimore City for 13 years, and moved out in 2001, around the time that I met my future wife. City had its crime-ridden areas then, but I believe it has gotten much worse, with more random shootings in areas where you really wouldn't expect it. Areas where you used to go to have a fun time really aren't that safe anymore. Without getting political, there's been a serious lack of leadership there for about the last 20 years. Both my parents were born and raised there, and they avoid going into the city as much as possible. It's a pretty sad situation. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Blue family.
Man, I couldn't imagine going through something like that. I've heard of players' family members dying or being killed, but being on the phone with your dad. I hope Jaden is okay and he can get any counseling he needs. Prayers for the family. Hard to come to grips with - it says he was 43, and I'm 47.
This is also the type of thing Coach Pry referenced with the recruiting footprint. It's times like this that I'm sure it's good to be relatively close to home to be able to be with family, especially if it winds up being multiple weekends over the coming months.
I'm bumping this because it's a worthy GoFundMe.
I know some of the folks here have donated. I did, too.
Give a little something to help out a Hokie family in need.
