Huge, shows what Pry and Co are after:
Clemson site is reporting that Pendleton defeated Dabo in a game of 1-1 basketball at Dabo's house. So take that for what it's worth.
Also, I believe VT and specifically Rudolph have impressed. Dude wants to go to a school where the OL mashes.
His mom is liking all the VT Twitter replies, which are few and far between. Gotta be good with mom, right Galen?
Are we supposed to be mass commenting gifs at the kids when we go up against Clemson, Penn St, etc?
Rule 0) don't tweet @ croots
He is liking all the VT replies too
Assuming April is his mom, it appears she is liking all the twitter replies, not just VT
In the VT Scoop or 247 article (can't find it now) where he talks about what he likes about each of his top 5 schools I'm pretty sure he says his mom went to VT. Hopefully she talks some sense into him and gets him to VT!
No fun and games Dabo when he plays 1 on 1 basketball. It'll ruin his week that he lost.
Will Harbaugh spend the night in Sam's treehouse? I mean, it's worked before
Isn't he turning pro so he does not have to do that kind of creepy stuff any more?
Won't have to but he may do it for the fun now.
I heard immediately dropped Clemson and favored VT after Pry crushed in 1v1 b-ball. Said he doesn't want to play for Losers. Dabo gonna have to up his game if he wants to keep up with the Pry train!
Someone in that top 5 has made up ground on Clemson. I'm not sure who yet, but my guess is either VT or NC State.
In retrospect and because of the Michigan news, I think it's Michigan / Clemson 1A/1B now
Daequan Wright Bumped to a 4 star by 247
That would be 4 x 4* players in this cycle.
That's more than we've had than the last two classes combined.
2022 class looking pretty good for a transition class.
Well deserved, had a beast season
6'4", 230 and 11.14 100m time ๐๐
Just committed๐ฆ๐ฆ
According to 247, this is a scholarship offer.
My favorite thing about this short highlight clip is that he catches smoothly with his hands
Those are some insane stats all for one season anyway you cut it. Seems a nice pickup
stats- 1 td for every 4 catches is nice. wonder if he comes in competing for a role- looks like a slot man
I'm actually gonna guess defense first maybe? Seems like good size with room to add some weight on his frame to play in the secondary
Looking at the coaches he tagged, they're all on the defensive side except for Holt who I'm guessing recruits that area of Florida. He tagged Marve (DC), Cheetah, (CBs), and Prioleau (safeties). So I bet he starts as a DB.
Pry has also mentioned that he likes starting DBs at corner and moving them to safety after if the fit isn't right. So I'm going to guess he'll start at corner.
A 6'4"* CB would be a deterrent against the hope & pray jump balls that have plagued us in the past.
*According to hudl, so some salt is prudent
Woh. I just saw his 247 profile. If he's 6'4" then we'll have to see! That's a lot of length to have mobile hips to play corner.
Haha between Alves and the McDonald bros (6'3" and 6'4"), CB will be the tallest position on our team
Really hoping the McDonald kids find success. They are good young men with the measurables to be really good.
Defense may be first, but ...
Coach Jones tweeted some stuff about him being another Cheetah so likely CB
Rashad Pernell just tweeted something about us getting another Highland Springs guy in '22. Any idea who that could be (can't embed sorry)
Mines recruited him to ODU after early signing day, of course, Mines is in Blacksburg now...๐ค
That's not quite how I processed this... I thought he meant "it doesn't end in 22".
Gentle reminder to all that it's best practice to link or embed the original content you're referring to if it's not paywalled
Just scrolling through 247's list of VA prospects for '22, Quanye Veney from Highland Springs appears to be uncommitted.
Listed as the #46 prospect - WR, 5'9", 160
https://247sports.com/Player/Quanye-Veney-46103100/
Kid's sitting right under "foot", bring him on home to VT.
While I like the idea. If the coaches don't think he is going to be a contributor, it is unlikely given we have to drop 7 or 8 guys by fall camp to get to the scholly limit I believe.
Reported as a PWO OLB/ATH
We seem to have taken several guys as PWOs. Is that likely because of the attrition Pry seems to think we'll have from an effort and "fit" perspective he mentioned after spring practice? So basically the numbers work out next year. Also, how do PWOs count against recruiting classes - I'd assume against next year's class?
And PWOs seem to suggest that the kids have potential, just with the right development, so gives staff a year to develop them. Also, it feels a little unnatural to talk about developing players, and to think the coaches might actually be able to do that.
I don't think PWOs count toward recruiting classes at all since they're non-scholarship. It just means you're on the team, but you have to pay your own way to go to school.
For some reason I was thinking that PWOs essentially had to pay for the first year, but got a scholarship the following year. After your response, I looked it up and it looks like you have a roster spot on the team, just don't have a scholarship (so differentiating between that and a walk-on who may not be able to get a spot on the team). Maybe I've just seen where PWOs got scholarships and assumed it was automatic.
Thanks for the response!
You're thinking of a grayshirt
I knew about greyshirts also - I think I was just remembering a specific instance where I saw a PWO get a scholarship and assumed that's what happened for them in general.
The idea for a PWO is to eventually get a scholarship if they develop the way the staff believes they will develop but it isn't guaranteed. Sam Rogers was a PWO that earned a scholarship early but that isn't necessarily normal.
Each team has 85 schollies and 105 total players. PWOs just get the first opportunity to have one of those roster spots.
I was missing the 105 total number - I knew about the 85 scholarship limit. Thanks!
Just caught the end of the ticker on ESPN but it had us with the #25 class in the country. Whoa!
Looks like the 24/7 composite has us sitting at 31 right now.
You have to drop a good ways to find teams with average rankings close to ours. We are definitely being propped up by class size. That said, I'm thrilled with where we are during a coaching change.
That's fine to me too. More chances to hit on 2* and 3* diamonds like we've been known for.
Yeah and the difference between those type of players is minimal. Development is way more important when talking high vs mid three stars
Alves and Mclain now have composite scores. .85 and .83 respectively.
And since noon our class ranking has dropped from 30th to 33rd.
Not VT related, but the Campbell Camels and Mike Minter pulled a mini Deon Sanders and got a 4 star Arkansas Commit to flip. Roll Humps ๐ช๐ช๐ช
https://www.swtimes.com/story/sports/college/2022/02/02/myles-rowser-ark...
Isn't Campbell div 2?
Edit: looked it up, they're FCS. Did they recently move up?
No football program until 2008 and were zero scholarship FCS (Pioneer League) until 4 years ago. Now they are in the Big South.
The good news- this bring Campbell's class rating into the top 80.
The bad news- this flip appears to be Related to some kind of legal issue. According to the Redditors "in the know" in this post, there's a good possibility he didn't actually do anything, but this fella appears to be charged with a felony.
His highly impressive offer list includes Virginia Tech (and he decommitted from Michigan 2 years ago).
Is it true that Campbell only recently started offering scholarships?
I figured it'd be legal issues or grades that got him to CU. No way they have enough NIL funds.
Yes, they just started offering full ride scholarships in 2017ish
Campbell just outrecruited three P5 schools.
Wow what the heck happened at Washington?
Or Arizona State: it seemed they offered everyone in the country and were pretty good the last couple of years. Is Herm Edwards not playing to win the games anymore?
Arizona State has had 5 people (so far) resign because of recruiting violations under Herm.
Not many want to go there knowing Herm is likely getting fired soon so they can start fresh.
The AD is his former agent, so unless they fire him, Herm will be ok
Campbell ain't played nobody, Pawl!
Sad news, apparently a Hokie recruit, and teammate of Cam Johnson, Lamar Patterson was killed in a car crash
So sad and could have easily been prevented. Here is an article with more details.https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/high-school/bs-sp-va-st-frances-acad...
Now that we're in February, you think Fontel sends out recruiting Valentines for players with photos of them and Fontel standing together, player photoshopped into a VT uniform, and a caption saying "Be Mines?"
Let's leave the weird and creepy stuff to Brian Kelly and Harbaugh
And that kid in the weird video with him committed to Alabama the other day lol
Don't blame the kids.
Blame the adults for making recruiting a circus
I dont blame the kid, he had a bad date and knew better to go back when you have other options.
Updated/new rankings for Hokie 2023 targets
Sam Pendleton -- NC OL Composite 4*/247 3*
Kamren Robinson -- VA LB 3*
Kaveion Keys -- VA LB 3*
Devan Houstan -- MD DL 4*
Krystian Williams -- VA ATH 3*
Lot of good potential talent in Maryland too. Hopefully we can see this staff make some in roads this year at some old VT haunts
So that's two top ten VA recruits and #11
Crystal Ball for Elijah Hughes. Edge player out of Washington Liberty in Arlington. No rating yet, class of 23. 6-3 250lbs
https://247sports.com/player/elijah-hughes-46129781/
An edge rusher that is north of 250 lbs?

Great gif pull.....
I know there's at least one TKPer who does only gifs from one universe.
I've been thinking of trying that out with Tombstone

0.90*0.90 4* QB from outside Atlanta just entered the portal Friday leaving NC State. 247sports.com/Aaron McLaughlinYour on a roll:

I think we need to aim for 3 star players and leave the .9 star guys for other teams
As Yoda famously said "Don't try"
You can't misquote Yoda like that man: "No. Try Not. Do. Or Do Not". I tried saying it your way and I was like woah woah woah, there's something wrong in the force here.
Perhaps the more relevant thing he said for us as fans came right before: "You must unlearn what you have learned."
I think HomebrewHokie misquoted Yoda. He doesn't even want to attempt to get good recruits.
i think he was making joking about the player being less than a one star recruit. .9*<<<<3*. At .9 rated recruit is worth the effort. Less than one star? To quote Yoda "Try not".
Ah, I get it. My bad.
And gtofever was nice enough to edit with a strikethrough and not make me look illiterate
My apologies, Homebrew. Accusing someone of misquoting/misinterpreting Yoda is a very strong accusation.
He misinterpreted the post.
He correctly applied the meaning behind Yoda's quote to his misinterpretation of the post.
However, he clearly misquoted and Yoda as the sentence structure was entirely off.
Played ball with RB Brunson.
I wouldn't expect much transfer portal activity for us. I believe that since classes have already started, they would not be able to participate in spring ball so they wouldn't arrive until the first summer session. It is definitely possible but we have to drop a handful of guys as it is and then fill any glaring gaps through the portal before fall camp.
My bet would be Central Florida.
All seems quiet on the recruiting front
I believe it is a dead period?
Dead period for the rest of the month
Then a quiet period until April 15.
Then it is on like Donkey Kong for the spring game
You forgot about the beginning of spring practices where we hear about how the strength coach is making a huge difference, guys are coming in stronger and faster than ever before, and the players have really come together.
Offer to 4* PA LB Phil Picciotti
Dunno if it's been mentioned but top 4 as of now for 4* PA LB Josiah Trotter son of Jeremiah Trotter and brother of Clemson LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Can't see that name and not think of Donna Pinciotti
Looks like coaches putting in more work this weekend to help build relationships in the State!
We need a nicer bus......
Especially since I don't know how Bowen or Mines fit in those seats. I hate those things and I'm no where close to their size
Let's see what these guys can design.

Coach Cheetah is on ๐ฅ with his tweets as usual
I'm torn between a gif from my all time favorite movie and the implications that it carries in context.
Nice. Pry is the President of football in the Commonwealth. It's his responsibility to elevate football at every level throughout VA.
