Lets go. Survive and advance mode now against very good competition. Gotta bring it all in the next three games: Cuse will beat anyone when they shoot it well, UVA just beat Duke and will play even harder against us, and we always get Carolina's (and the refs') best shot.

One of the things working in the last four games is so many contributors; different ones at different times and in different ways. Bench production getting better every night and those guys are starting to play with some real confidence. We won't win em all to the finish but unless something changes, I think we win most. It's getting fun y'all!!! FAM

Fam, those first five minutes had me worried but they really turned it on after that and never looked back. If there had to be a stint of bad play, I much prefer it at the beginning than at the end. Let's keep this thing rolling!
Let's GOOOOO!

Our starters started, got the lead, then started sitting while the bench just maintained the lead. Then starters came back in fresh to close our and open the lead a little more.

So, is the bench contributing more because CMY is putting them on the court for longer stretches? Or are they on the court for longer stretches because CMY recognizes that they are contributing more? Little chicken or the egg thang

Look at the starters during those games too. If we are able to get out to a large lead with them, that lets CMY rest them longer stretches out of luxury.
My memory of many of these losses was that we were up from the starters playing well, but never took them out and they fell apart down the stretch - especially the last 4 minutes.

FAM. I missed both this and Saturday's game. It is apparent now that the Hokies win when I don't watch. I guess I'll have to miss the remaining games too...

I think you've got it. Threes seem to be going down in the lat 10 minutes at a higher clip. Less fatigue could certainly be the cause. So if we were any good at statistics at all we could see if playing more minutes is correlated with a drop off in 3pt shooting percentage by the starters. That would seem logical and it appears in line with what we've seen as well.
But I'll go back and say the confidence level of the guys coming off the bench is the catalyst. It has grown exponentially over the last several games, on both ends of the court. Ergo they get more playing time and the starters get more rest allowing them to drain more threes (and play better defense) down the stretch. It appears to me that this is our secret sauce winning formula. Maybe CMY can bottle that shit and keep it going through this next brutal stretch.

To add to the convo about bench minutes and contributions...
There was one play, Pedulla or Murphy passed it to Maddox on the wing as he was coming off a screen set by N'Guessan. Then Maddox made a nice, quick bounce pass to N'Guessan as he cut back door to the basket. N'Guessan finished confidently and cleanly. Seeing those two players execute that so smoothly is very very encouraging for the future. And good grief, we've had some shooters over the years at VT, but Maddox is incredibly smooth and seems to be just as consistent from mid-range as he is from 3-pt.

Keep that ball rolling.
I love it when we win by lot. FAM!!!
FAM! Another great shooting night, good rebounding and good defense! 4 in a row.
FAM!
Fun game to watch, bench got some playing time, you like to see that.
Keeping hopes alive.
Palindrome final score FAM!
Our defense was fun to watch tonight!
Today's game summary in a play
We winning games? In a row? More than several times in a row? More games at home? I like like like like! I like it a lot.
2.5 back of the double bye
Big Win Fam

I hate everything about what you just said, but it's all 100% accurate.
Surprised we came away with the win on this one. Based on Saturdays game, we fouled almost every single 3 we took tonight and they never called one...
Alleyen showed up tonight and opened things up. Lets hope that continues along with the step back bros.
Bench clearing mid season conference FAM
If Syracuse beats BC tomorrow, both teams will be on a four game win streak when they play us.
Hopeful CMY has the boys ready.
Based on the four game winning streak, and bench management, CMY will have them ready.
FAM
Things I didn't think I would see this far into the season... Pedulla 7 assists zero turnovers. Cattoor leading the team in minutes.
I am no expert, but Pedulla has impressed me a lot.
Definitely seems like MY has his PG for the next few years. Still waiting to seem him dunk in a game like he has in practice.
I know it isn't unheard of, but imagine how wild the crowd would go with 6-1 pg slamming it down.
Here is an Instagram post of him doing it in practice. Obviously not the same as a game but still fun to see.

FAM Pit run it back....
One of the things working in the last four games is so many contributors; different ones at different times and in different ways. And that folks is why I NEVER bid on sports. I would have thrown the mortgage at Pitt covering the 13.5 point spread but shows what I know.
I bet on Pitt to cover :(
Fam, those first five minutes had me worried but they really turned it on after that and never looked back. If there had to be a stint of bad play, I much prefer it at the beginning than at the end. Let's keep this thing rolling!
Let's GOOOOO!
Thankfully, the defense was strong in the first five and Pitt wasn't able to take advantage of the scoring drought.
Same, those 2 turnovers by Aluma were rough but he bounced back nicely along with the rest of the team. Loved CMY calling off the dogs at the very end
That's more like it.
I like that the bench is steadily getting more minutes. In the win last night, N'Guessan had 26 min, Pedulla with 21 and Maddox with 19 minutes
Also, of note, VT is undefeated when Varga sees action. Correlation or causation? You be the judge
To my untrained eye the bench contributing more seems to be the biggest difference since we started winning more.
Oh yeah.... FAM!
More bench contributions and more minutes. You could see we left starters in too long during the losing stretch and they fell apart from fatigue.
Our starters started, got the lead, then started sitting while the bench just maintained the lead. Then starters came back in fresh to close our and open the lead a little more.
Decided to look a little closer at this
In our ACC losses, looking at our contributing bench (N'Guessan, Pedulla, Maddox):
N'Guessan - 9.8 min; 2 ppg
Pedulla - 11.6 min; 2 ppg
Maddox - 10.8 min; 3.6 ppg
In our 6 ACC wins:
N'Guessan - 18.8 min; 5 ppg
Pedulla- 13.8 min; 6.8 ppg
Maddox - 15.66 min; 5.3 ppg
Now, if you just look at the 4 game win streak (omitting the NC State and ND wins - their stats were similar to the 6 losses in those):
N'Guessan - 21.25 min; 6 ppg
Pedulla - 16.5 min; 8.5 ppg
Maddox - 19.5 min; 6.75 ppg
So, is the bench contributing more because CMY is putting them on the court for longer stretches? Or are they on the court for longer stretches because CMY recognizes that they are contributing more? Little chicken or the egg thang
Look at the starters during those games too. If we are able to get out to a large lead with them, that lets CMY rest them longer stretches out of luxury.
In the wins:
Mutts: 29.67 minutes, 12.67 ppg
Allenye: 29.17 minutes, 11 ppg
Aluma: 28 minutes, 13.17 ppg
Murphy: 27.17 minutes, 11.33 ppg
Cattoor: 33.83 minutes, 9.83 ppg
In the losses:
Aluma: 35.42 minutes, 20.29 ppg, leading scorer in every game
Mutts: 30.29 minutes, 10.57 ppg
Alleyne: 31.71 minutes, 7.86 ppg
Murphy: 31 minutes, 7.14 ppg
Cattoor: 35.71 minutes, 10.14 ppg.
Trends say we're in trouble if Aluma and Murphy have to play long minutes.
My memory of many of these losses was that we were up from the starters playing well, but never took them out and they fell apart down the stretch - especially the last 4 minutes.
Well that and the fact they are shooting the friggin lights out.....
Yeah, currently ranked second in the country in 3 point shooting.
FAM. I missed both this and Saturday's game. It is apparent now that the Hokies win when I don't watch. I guess I'll have to miss the remaining games too...
I like it when Pitt loses
WTF kinda score is that?
And what lit the fire under their britches?
Is it just that the bench started giving the starters a break and so they weren't winded by the end of the game?
The box score is pretty funny too. Pitt scored almost twice as many points in the 2nd half as they did in the first half. 30-17.
I think you've got it. Threes seem to be going down in the lat 10 minutes at a higher clip. Less fatigue could certainly be the cause. I hope he bottles it, and puts that **** on everything.

Syracuse, UVa, UNC...
All at Cassell.
Boy, I was worried for the first 5 minutes there fam.
