Mutts continuing to be an absolute boss at the rim. He is a straight dude and can get it done in so many different ways appreciate his play while we still have him boys and girls!

Aluma gets attention because he has more pro potential, but Mutts is the guy that this team could not live without. I get that the presence of Aluma gives Mutts some room to work, but I don't know if Tech has ever had a guy do as much on the floor as Mutts does.

Got home too late to catch the start. Tuned in up by ten. Watched us go stupid cold shooting (again) and still inch away. By the end of the half I was as comfortable we would win as I have been all season. By the end I was barely paying attention. Made it look easy.

FAM!!
I know you can't just manufacture assists, but Mutts was just 4 assists from another triple double. Almost wish some coach would tell him to switch into pass only mode when the game's not on the line and he has a chance to make Tech bball history (third triple double ever, only player to get two)

I am trying to figure out how we are still on the bible when we are top 25 BPI and top 40 NET. Either the ratings models are crap, then if so, what is the point, to or the selection committee (and pundits) has no clue. Which is it?

Because as good as we are on paper we didn't win good games. Our NET ranking is good but out Q Score is bad because we have 1-5 Q1 and 4-4 Q2 which isn't very strong.
Not too different Nebraska football last year. The algorithms loved them, but they kept losing games (barely) to top teams and some teams they should have beat (and often in WTF fashion). Nebraska should have gone 7-5, but ended up 3-9. I'm guessing VT Bball would have similar storyline for the first half of the season.
Yah I'm thinking with our team it will come down to a human aspect for evaluation by the committee: record sucked early and then they see we win 11 of 13 (if we can beat Clemson and get one in the ACCT) of our last games with close loses to most of our q1 games and only getting blown out once. Computers love us and metrics show we're efficient so we should be able to hang with anyone. It will be one of those that people outside the Acc go "how the hell did VT get it" without knowing the extraneous details.

Man looking at the ACC standings now, we were so so close to getting the double bye for the ACC tourney but my understanding is we're mathematically eliminated just barely. At least we've mathematically locked in the single bye.

We need more good wins. I think not having the double bye helps in that our second game without the bye should be against a better team, than whoever we would play in the first game with a double bye (in theory). That first game with a single bye probably can't really help, and could only hurt.

Wins over Clemson, GT and ND puts us at 22-12 with a loss in the ACC Semi's... or 23-12 if we make the final. That gets us in the dance, unless Murray, SD State get at larges , and one of the bottom A 10 teams wins that league. I personnally think 22-12 will get us into Dayton regardless.

I think we need that good win against ND, or a better team, and can't lose those other two. We've been here before where we were the first team with x number of ACC wins to miss the tourney, and I'm sure we had better wins in those years. Only having one quad one win, is going to be the reason we get kept out if it happens.

9 of 10! We are one of the hottest in the nation. Now we just need to close out the regular season with another big win. Don't take Clemson lightly, they have beaten some good teams.

Elsewhere on the bubble tonight: got a couple of good results with UNLV over Wyoming, DePaul over Marqutte. St Johns over Xavier and FSU over Notre Dame. All in all the results were pretty bad as they have been over the last week or so.
Tomorrow's rooting interests: Cincy over SMU, Iowa over Michigan, USF over Memphis, Washington over Oregon, Fresno State over San Diego State, Ohio State over Michigan State and Kansas over TCU.
Friday: TBD over BYU, Loyola over Bradley, Richmond over St Bonny, TBD over Belmont

Update: Oregon is sunk after losing by 11 to Washington. Michigan also lost and if they loss to Ohio State they should be out. Rooting for a final regular season L and first round exit for both them and Sparty.
Would've been nice to have Memphis or SMU out but both won tonight. Hopefully Tulane knocks SMU out this weekend.
Fresno State only down 3 at the half at SDSU. Go Bulldogs!

First since 1991 FAM!
I was there!
EDIT: never did I think when I was sitting there as an 18 year old that the next time we'd beat Louisville I'd be nearly 50...yikes
Louisville by far was the worse team we played all season 😂
No argument here.
Hopefully we play them again in a couple of games lol
9 out of last 10!!
Long overdue, first win vs Louisville since 1991! Here's the game summarized in one play:
I will say this for Murphy, he put the ball exactly where it needed to be at the right time as well. That was a great TEAM play.
Mutts has been a great player this year, he has really taken up Radfords spot from last year.
We have exorcised the demons!
BUTTS FOR MUTTS!
Finally a low stress game...... my heart is thankful
Great finish @Cassell FAM
2-7 to 11-8 is an absolutely insane turnaround.
Soon to be 12-8
dont you put that evil on us
FAMMM! Love a good birthday win from the squad.
Also, Chris Coleman wya!

Are we forgetting about Boots already?
Sadly, we never got to see Boots final form.
Deron Washington and Zach LeDay would like a word. Also, Malcolm Delaney.
Leday was the one I thought about, it works best neck and neck battle there, but I think Mutts takes it.
fam fam fam fam fam fam!!!!!
Go Hokies!!!!
Great win! When we cleared the bench I noted Jalen Haynes wasn't there. Is he injured? Leaving the team?
Concentrating on academics is what CMY said.

I wish when we are up 30, the bench guys would get in for more than a minute. give them 2-3 minutes to get a few possessions.
He cleared the bench with 1:43 left. The bench players played a lot of the second half.

Up to 37 in NET after the decisive victory; just keep winning, preferably decisively 😜

Nebraska score 239 point in Big Ten games. They gave up 239 points in Big Ten games. They went 1-8
I don't know if I've heard of a more brutal statistic. And here I thought VT was the home of the "4-hour stomachache". Lincoln must be ulcer central.

Covid hammered us hard over Christmas and it took a while to recover on the court as well as just playing the games finally.

I think the double bye would hurt VT for the NCAA tourney. We need more wins, having an extra round helps.
Counterpoint: Win the ACC and we autoqualify! In college sports, always play to win the game.
Oh hi

The issue those years was we had bad bad BAD losses to end everyone of those seasons. At least this season we are looking to finish strong.
True. In those seasons we were (probably) in, and played ourselves out. Whereas this season we're (probably) out, and need to play ourselves in.
Good thing we are one of the hottest teams in the conference-the selection committee loves that
9 of 10! We are one of the hottest in the nation. Now we just need to close out the regular season with another big win. Don't take Clemson lightly, they have beaten some good teams.
Had we simply beaten Xavier, Miami at home - freak half court shot, and UNC once, we would be an 8 seed.
We're locked into either the 6 or 7 seed (single bye). Beat Clemson and UVA loses to Louisville and we're the 6, any other scenario and we're the 7
Welp, I did not die on Monday, so we did beat Louisville in men's hoops while I was alive. I am here to eat crow and happily be wrong! Go Hokies.
Tell the truth DC, you gave Malik Williams directions to C'ville instead of the 'burg, right? :)
lol. I'll never tell
... and prove that KingJames did not infact ritually sacrifice you.
Your name has been cleared from the investigation.
