Him and this whole team, tbh, good god I was tearing up watching the celebrations and hugs and everyone just being psyched together. Considering all of the locker room drama from the FB team in the past few years, it's just awesome to see a team that seems to legitimately love each other and want to play together (and then use that bond to look like an absolutely cracked bball team that will never lose again).

You're totally right. I was down on Murphy for sure, and it took him about 2 months to get up to ACC speed.
But he cemented his legacy the last couple of months. No matter what happens in the NCAAs, he was the starting point guard on Virginia Tech's 2022 ACC championship team. He shouldn't ever have to pay for a beer in Blacksburg for the rest of his life.

Fam I been watching and supporting this team for a long long time through thick and thin. Shitty luck, shitty coaches, embarrassing losses, half empty arena etc etc etc. And to finally be able to say that my team stepped up and turned around what was spiraling towards another disappointment of a season into the greatest run in school history and won that shit fair and square is just cathartic on so many levels. It's honestly a lot of emotions to process.
I love Blacksburg. I love Virginia Tech. I love this fucking team. Let's go wreck some fuckin shop in the tourney. Bring on the field

Not only did Cattoor LIGHT up from three, he was also amazing in other ways (can we talk about his defense?). The biggest difference from the FSU game, in my opinion, is that we are seeing Cattoor driving the basket and getting "easy" two pointers, and a few "and ones".
I think today he was more impressive than his hot streak at FSU. More diverse, more confident. This team is looking great right now.

I am not exaggerating. I've had tears in my eyes the moment it became obvious we were gonna win until now. Most everyone at Tech has been a football first fan . Not me. Basketball has always been my favorite sport (don't get me wrong, still love me some football). And probably like a lot of folks before we moved to the ACC, I grew up in ACC country where the teachers would play the Tournament during class. So my school and ACC Basketball have always held a special place for me. To see these two things come together...just WOW. THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING.

I am with you in the basketball as the best sport deal. I loved it growing up, I loved the Big East. VT was in the BE the 4 years I was there, and it sucked. No one went to games. I would walk in and sit in the first couple rows because no one showed up to their seats. To see the team actually compete the last 7 or so years has been great.

Wow, this feels totally surreal. To win the ACC championship in basketball and go through UNC and Duke back to back to do it is just nuts. Hats off to this team, Coach Young and his assistants, and to Whit for putting the investment into VT basketball. We have come such a long way. This win is up there with beating Miami in football in 04 to win the ACC in our first year. Definitely a huge moment for all of VT athletics.

In 2016 VT had been to the tournament 8 times in history, and hadn't been back to back since 1986. VT has casually been to all 5 of the last tournaments.
Forget that we wouldn't have made it in 2020. That tournament didn't happen, so we've been to 5 in a row.

The rest of his game has really come along too. His D has been stellar, even during his shooting slump. But, the thing that has me the most excited is seeing our all our guards put the ball on the floor and drive with success in the tournament. That hadn't happened with consistency all season. That makes this team almost impossible to guard. You truly have to pick your poison as we have so many scoring threats spaced out on the floor at one time.

I didn't get to watch the Clemson game but the last three games were the most exciting and enjoyable run of VT athletics I've ever experienced. I still can't believe that happened. Legends. All of them.
With 2 minutes left in the game my father in law said "well that's game". And my reaction was a visceral reproduction of the "don't you put that evil on me" gif. Almost made him go outside and then come back in (not sure what that was supposed to do but I was somewhat drunk), but due to the wind chill I offered him a reprieve.
I had already submitted a donation to the Hokie Scholarship Fund before the confetti stopped falling. What a season. Can't wait to see what kinda noise we can make in the dance.

Last night YoutubeTV froze on my TV...the game, the news, Animal Planet, all of it. Every channel I went to it was like I had pressed pause. So, I got frustrated and watched Taylor Tomlinson's latest special on Netflix while the game was going on. (She's funny as hell, BTW. And I highly recommend.)
So, thank you, YoutubeTV. I'm sorry for all the harsh words I threw at you last night. You stopped me from doing something that would have only hurt myself and my friends. From the bottom of my ass pocket, thank you.

Same here APFOW - we've got YTTV too and record all the games so my wife & I decided for the ACCT Clemson game we'd try to time it so we'd watch their recorded key plays to catch up live right before the end of the game. Win! So as not to jinx the following games we did the same thing for ND with 2 minutes to go, Win! UNC with 3 minutes to go, Win! But for Duke we miss timed it (after watching Taylor's comedy special) and there was still 15 minutes to go in the game and we were like we f'd up, jinxed the team, and debated to hang in there to watch or turn the channel. We hung in to watch and as the stars & planets lined up we started jumpin'.
Finally watched the game in its entirety this morning. What a run! Proud & happy for the players as they EARNED this Championship with their focus & tireless determination.
We'll record the games in the Big Dance and do the same thing until we get to the Final 4. Go Hokies!!!

As a fan for 33 years, I have to say I am so happy for these players and coaches. I mean, in the past when we won something big, I felt huge as a fan, as a Hokie, but this run is all for the team. I am beside myself for these kids. So happy for them. Words just can't begin.

Seriously, my wife had to tell me to watch the game. I missed all of our other ACC tournament games, so I was afraid to watch this one for fear of jinxing it. She made me watch it and then took credit for the win because she changed into a Hokie shirt before tipoff.
Fam I been watching and supporting this team for a long long time through thick and thin. Shitty luck, shitty coaches, embarrassing losses, half empty arena etc etc etc. And to finally be able to say that my team stepped up and turned around what was spiraling towards another disappointment of a season into the greatest run in school history and won that shit fair and square is just cathartic on so many levels. It's honestly a lot of emotions to process.

Mike Young has never lost a championship game.
Not only did Cattoor LIGHT up from three, he was also amazing in other ways (can we talk about his defense?). The biggest difference from the FSU game, in my opinion, is that we are seeing Cattoor driving the basket and getting "easy" two pointers, and a few "and ones".
I think today he was more impressive than his hot streak at FSU. More diverse, more confident. This team is looking great right now.

I am not exaggerating. I've had tears in my eyes the moment it became obvious we were gonna win until now. Most everyone at Tech has been a football first fan . Not me. Basketball has always been my favorite sport (don't get me wrong, still love me some football). And probably like a lot of folks before we moved to the ACC, I grew up in ACC country where the teachers would play the Tournament during class. So my school and ACC Basketball have always held a special place for me. To see these two things come together...just WOW. THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING.

I am with you in the basketball as the best sport deal. I loved it growing up, I loved the Big East. VT was in the BE the 4 years I was there, and it sucked. No one went to games. I would walk in and sit in the first couple rows because no one showed up to their seats. To see the team actually compete the last 7 or so years has been great.
This makes up for so much football agony in recent years. Suck it, Joe Lunardi... WE DANCING!!!

The job Mike Young has done has been stunning. The love he has for his players and the love they have for him is evident. This team trusts him and they trust each other.

Wow, this feels totally surreal. To win the ACC championship in basketball and go through UNC and Duke back to back to do it is just nuts. Hats off to this team, Coach Young and his assistants, and to Whit for putting the investment into VT basketball. We have come such a long way. This win is up there with beating Miami in football in 04 to win the ACC in our first year. Definitely a huge moment for all of VT athletics.

In 2016 VT had been to the tournament 8 times in history, and hadn't been back to back since 1986. VT has casually been to all 5 of the last tournaments.
Forget that we wouldn't have made it in 2020. That tournament didn't happen, so we've been to 5 in a row.

The rest of his game has really come along too. His D has been stellar, even during his shooting slump. But, the thing that has me the most excited is seeing our all our guards put the ball on the floor and drive with success in the tournament. That hadn't happened with consistency all season. That makes this team almost impossible to guard. You truly have to pick your poison as we have so many scoring threats spaced out on the floor at one time.
Three or four times during the second half I thought to myself, "I should text [friend] and ask if we are really about to win the ACC in basketball". And then I thought better of it. Didn't text anyone until after the game. You're welcome.
My buddy who was watching the game texted me to ask if I was watching. He said your guard is pretty good. I was only half watching (had friends over this weekend for boardgames) and asked him which one - we have 3 pretty good ones.

Almost made him go outside and then come back in (not sure what that was supposed to do but I was somewhat drunk), but due to the wind chill I offered him a reprieve.

So, thank you, YoutubeTV. I'm sorry for all the harsh words I threw at you last night. You stopped me from doing something that would have only hurt myself and my friends. From the bottom of my ass pocket, thank you.
Same here APFOW - we've got YTTV too and record all the games so my wife & I decided for the ACCT Clemson game we'd try to time it so we'd watch their recorded key plays to catch up live right before the end of the game. Win! So as not to jinx the following games we did the same thing for ND with 2 minutes to go, Win! UNC with 3 minutes to go, Win! But for Duke we miss timed it (after watching Taylor's comedy special) and there was still 15 minutes to go in the game and we were like we f'd up, jinxed the team, and debated to hang in there to watch or turn the channel. We hung in to watch and as the stars & planets lined up we started jumpin'.
Finally watched the game in its entirety this morning. What a run! Proud & happy for the players as they EARNED this Championship with their focus & tireless determination.

If you wanted to return the favor with a comparable beer, you could get him some of Three Notch'd Brewing's "Local Lager". It's made in Charlottesville. Actually, they have a lot of good beers, though I don't think any are explicitly Hoo themed.

He had 1 year each at his prior schools (HP & DE I think) and has been at VT for the last two (I think). So he would have one year left and I think he just started on his second masters.
