The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics is sharing additional details surrounding the "Hokie Hi: Weekend at Home" event, an expanded weekend in Blacksburg surrounding Tech Football's annual Spring Game, presented by PMSi. The Spring Game will take place on April 16 and will begin at 4:00 p.m., will be televised live on the ACC Network, and tickets will be sold for $5 (all general admission seating), in addition to providing the opportunity for fans to add an optional donation to the Hokie Club, creating another unique opportunity for all fans to continue to impact the Drive for 25, the Hokie Club's annual membership goal of over 25,000 members.

Very well done in my opinion. Thanks for Sharing!
I hope nobody hates on this. $5 is absolutely nothing (especially if you're a hardcore fan enough to go to the spring game as a non-student) and it will add up and go a long way toward helping the football program.
I'd like to see the students get in for free. But I'm very okay with $5 admission as an alum.
I think they can claim a complementary ticket, but it may be a lottery system.
Lottery for students. tickets are free for them
If you are coming from Nova or somewhere similar, you are spending way more on gas, food, hotel, etc. I hope people look at it as just a small add on not as a reason to complain or cancel.
Not hating on it, but let the wee ones in for free. Gotta start 'cruitin' early.
I had to pay when I was a student, it was $5 20 years ago, so it's even cheaper now than 20 years ago due to inflation
Great idea. They should charge 10 or 15 IMHO. People will gladly pay that especially with the new coaching staff and coming off covid, etc.
Yep, intrigue brings revenue.
Great idea. Should raise around 50-100k (maybe more with good attedance and concessions/merchandise/parking/etc.)... It's 5 dollars lmao. And it's definitely not going to deter anyone planning on going, especially if it was already going to cost them $200-$300 for travel, food, drink, tailgating, parking, etc. I honestly could be lowballing that number too.
20k people that arent students come, that is $100k. Concessions (beer hopefully) and you could rack up enough to pay another Analyst each year.
The game probably costs at least 35k to put on as a public event. I'm all for it being used as a fundraiser. Charge more.
From what I have seen from other schools who charge money for the spring game, I've seen mostly between $10-$30... I think $5 is a good start, but I'd like to see it around $10-15 in the future to raise more money. Maybe charge more for the padded/club seats.
Not to plagiarize Joe (see below), but $5 is a longer term play, especially after a fairly bad season. But it starts the process for the future. I think eventually you'll see it tick up to $10 in say a year or two at the minimum
Frank the Tank will always get a leg from me
Got a really nice email as a season ticket holder of club seats we would have a special event for the spring game. They are doing really good at this new PR push.
I understand why they are doing this but I can't help feel that it's gross they are reintroducing capitalization of the spring game on April 16. Having been a student when that all happened in 2007, it just doesn't sit well with me at all.
I was also a student in 2007. I'm not bothered by it. It's five bucks. You can get a gallon of gas for that
For now you can!
I think the reference is to the date.
The prior day is 15 April, the absolutely worse day of the year.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. as in all demographics I'm sure there are varied and manifold takes on this within the class of 2007.
I tend to get set off by stuff related to the 16th (irrational anger when people bring it up flippantly, uncontrollable sobbing when people tell their stories, etc) and yet this fails to disquiet me. It's not like the spring game is an April 16th memorial event. It happens to be the Saturday of the weekend they're doing the spring game.
Yeah..... I mean I didn't like that they put the SG on 4/16 to begin with, I wish that it could have gone the weekend before or after, to be honest. To see they are going to charge people to attend with that in mind... I dunno, I just don't like it.
And I know not everyone will agree with that. I personally don't care, everyone is entitled to their opinion about that day.
I get where you're coming from. However, asking folks to travel to Blacksburg for two consecutive weekends in the spring is a big ask. I think it makes sense to combine the spring game with remembrance. Football is very much a part of VT identity. It was in 2007 too. Heck, GameDay came to Blacksburg specifically to highlight how VT stuck together in the wake of the tragedy.
Nobody is being forced to attend the spring game. I don't think it's taking away from the remembrance weekend. In fact, I'd bet that a lot of folks who are going for remembrance would actually enjoy having something fun/positive to look forward to as well. Filling your weekend trip with emotion is draining. Might be nice for some folks to get a reprieve.
And I don't think there is any real issue with charging $5 either. It's such a small fee for what would otherwise be free entertainment. Most people will understand that nothing is free and would be more than happy to pay a few bucks to help out. If not, they can go sit in a bar and order water and watch it on TV for free.
Ok, so I'm not the only one who wants to get violent when people bring it up flippantly, as you said, or ask really dumb questions about it. Good to know. Thanks.
If I understand your comment, it sounds like you're saying the athletic department should either:
But putting a fundraiser on 4/16 remembrance weekend seems like we're exploiting past tragedy for financial gain.
Assuming I understand correctly, I think your grievance is reasonable.
You summed up what I was trying to express perfectly. Thanks!
I hear your sentiment loud and clear. It's a double edge sword imo. Tough for trying to take everything into account but get everyone happy.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts because that wasn't my initial thoughts considering I was in a similar position.
I'm not bothered by it either, twas my senior year.
here is another idea:
Lol. From. The. Top. Rope.
I mean, it's a great joke, but I happen to be like, really good at math and find some serious issues with his numbers:
At $5/ticket, $200-$300 means that between 40-60 'fans' would have to attend the LOLUVA spring game. We all know that's a lie.
:-)
Daughter's school had a Fun Run this morning (technically it was all day because they did individual grade levels but anyways). There were more parents watching 5th graders run around the gym at 9:30 on a Thursday morning than LOLuva has attending a spring football event.
"Fun" and "Run" should never be used in a sentence together....
festival

Has this not been corrected yet? I love it.
You have to search on Google Maps for "Lane Stadium North" and it will pop up. Otherwise it says Scott Stadium. Still very funny.
Sounds great. But do you really expect 40-60 people to show up for a Spring football event at Lane North??
This is the way.
Step 1: Televise the spring game
Step 2: Win national championship
This is the way.
Kind of OT, but wow the PR and social media presence of Pry and the new staff this spring is off the charts. Someone heard the message loud and clear about fan engagement. All fronts are active - FB, Twitter, Instagram. And even the first open practice since the Beamer days. It's just the little things, whether it be a photo album from the day's practice, some video clips, some interviews with players and coaches. These guys absolutely get it. It humanizes the staff and players a bit more.
I'm not saying the outcome would have been different under Fu because the win column matters above all else. But it certainly could have made people more sympathetic to the cause when your team is actually visible.
One of these years I will make it up from out of state if I time it right. The alumni association just sent me stuff in the mail this week about everything as well. I'm just happy to see the full on engagement again. When I volunteered I was more plugged in, but glad to see Pry injecting energy and some sense back into certain aspects.
Who's got tailgates planned? We're flying up for the weekend and won't have the usual tailgate setup with us.
We do! We'll be in Chicken Hill
Where on chicken hill, please? Its a large area. Look for TKP flag?
Just before the divided road sign
Anyone have information on the Egg Hunt?
I have seen 1:15 time but no location. Little ones want to do it but not sure where to go.
Virginia Tech Athletics will hold an egg hunt at the Moseley Practice Field across from Lane Stadium on Saturday at 1:15 p.m., with gates opening at 1 p.m. The Hokie Bird will be in attendance with over 1,000 eggs able to be captured.
Thank you! I had read it somewhere awhile ago and could not find it for the life of me this morning.
I told my wife we could always count on TKP
Anyone find any ACC network streams? Thinking I might have to bite the bullet and get a month of espn+
I think it's on regular ACC network. If you can watch regular season games on that channel you should be fine.
It is. Just checked the FiOS guide to make absolutely sure and there it is at 4pm on channel 721.
Watching the Miami spring game right now. ACCN has really upped the commercials - just saw Emeril pitching a $45 26qt all-in-one oven/air fryer/toaster/roaster/rotisserie. Can't wait to see the Tac version of it this Fall!
Miami actually looks decent rn
Yeah I don't have it, usually rely on streams.
And correction, ESPN+ does not carry the ACC Network anymore.
Weather is beautiful today! Partly cloudy after originally having rain forecasted. Currently 64, but should be 70 around the game. Feels good man π
Feels good to be Home!!
I'm just glad I can watch it remotely again
If this new staff even got Jerod Evans to come back, who has been more or less radio silent on VT since the day he left for the NFL, they really are different.
Anybody else see Hendon Hooker on the field just now?
Hell yeah Bill Roth!
Wow, seems like a pretty nice crowd
Everyone else missing sound on ACCN?
Mine's good. I am streaming through ESPN app.
Going from the Dave Clawson interview to a Brent Pry interview within 5 minutes on ACCN really just hammered home how happy I am we didn't wind up with Clawson. Good lord what a wet blanket he is.
They are already afraid of King's return ability
Can't believe the offense only got a field goal. Bowen not off to a good start /s
Marve not having a three and out there was really disappointing /s
