I really hoped this would be a post about his being let go...

Feel like this long extension isn't going to work well for Pitt

How often has a long extension ever worked out for a school.

Thou, I think the most famous bomb was the 10 year extension Charlie Weis got out of Notre Dame.

That is a long extension for a guy with an average win around 7.5 a year.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

To be honest, he has out performed at a school that averages 7.5 students in the stands per home game.

...at a school that averages 7.5 students in the stands per home game.

Which is still more fans than LOLUVA will have at their spring festival.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Looks like Pitt likes to eat it's shit with a heavy pour of salt. Hopefully he continues his precedent of one good season every 4 years or so.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

That's kind of what Pitt wants, solid bowl team with a chance at the conference title every 4 years or so. They aren't looking for a 10 win season streak. Though it wouldn't shock me if Nardouche started one. The Coastal is ripe for the taking.

Post Dave Wannstedt Pitt Coaching History:

- Michael Haywood: fired before coaching a single game after domestic assault charges
- Todd Graham: bigger asshole than Narduzzi and "big dogged" them to go to ASU
- Paul Chryst: good fit but actually big dogged them and went back to Wisconsin

7 wins a year, the team has an identity, and a whiny punk during a press conferences is definitely something Pitt will live with.

They also chased off Jamie Dixon on the basketball side and things have gotten much worse, so as a school I think their risk appetite for new coaches is pretty low.

They also can't dump the current BB coach due to the buyout.

Dammit

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Coastal was down and Clemson had an unusually bad year. So... I guess a 7 year extension makes sense?

Absolutely no chance this backfires on them in the next few seasons

I think its only a 2-3 year extension on what he was already under contract for. Still, someone on twitter linked this article that may become pertinent to this extension: Gus Malzahn's 43 Million Dollar Month

So he was already under contract through 2027 or 2028 and they went ahead and extended that to 2030 because.... reasons?

That actually might be worse than the extension we gave Fuente in 2016.

Yeah, and I agree with ya there, not a case of "How can he recruit players if he is only under contract for the next three years?"

All I can think of is there are a couple of coaches out there who get a year automatically added to every contract if they have 7 wins that year.

Couldn't happen to a nicer school.

It is going to be interesting with 4 new coaches in the Coastal this year (Duke, LOLUVA, Miami, and VT). UNC is going to have a new coach in the next few years (maybe even this year if the UNC flop from last year continues). Who knows with GT?

I don't see a change happening at GT unless something spectacularly bad happens off the field or they do well enough that another school poaches Collins for some reason.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

This feels like when Fuente got his extension after winning the division his first season. It's different because Nards has obviously already been there a while, but it's similar in that it really feels he was more lucky than good and is just cashing in while he's at his peak. I simultaneously feel like and hope that this ages poorly.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

I get that both coaches got an extension after a couple good seasons (which, in hindsight, were outliers) with a senior QB and a star coordinator, but otherwise, the situations are not remotely similar IMO.

Fuente had two good years, two decent recruiting classes (on paper), and was being linked to job openings like UF and FSU. There was legit interest in him from the coaching market. The Fuente extension was the right move given the info we had at the time.

I don't know who is hiring Narduzzi away from Pitt. Maybe Michigan State IF AND ONLY IF Mel Tucker left (but he didn't). That's what makes no sense about this; Narduzzi isn't upgrading, and he's probably not upgrading next season. So why the extension?

If I were an AD, I don't think I'd give a contract extension to a coach after a year where our QB was a senior. Sounds weird, but that'd be my rule I'd try to stick to unless we won the natty or something lol. How much of the success was Nards vs Pickett? We'll find out next season.

I am going to guess 85% Pickett. It looks like he will be a top 10 draft pick and the #1 QB taken this year.
