Had an opportunity to compete, get evaluated and get better.

This made me think about a recent quote from CBP in The Athletic. Pry is able to explain exactly what he wants out of a player and how it fits in his scheme. Here's the quote:

I think he's a good football player in the box. In today's game, you've got to be a good football player on the perimeter, and I think that's where he needs to make some improvements. He's got a goal to be as lean as he's ever been since he's been here. To help him move better and more agility, more speed. And we've got to work on his pad level, to get him in the right position to tackle and to do things โ€” that's the two things with him.

The fact that Pry is able to say 'We want to run Scheme X, so Player needs to be able to do things A, B, & C, but he needs to practice things Y and Z to do thing C effectively" is (1) very reassuring and (2) a very welcomed change.

That said, I haven't heard anything nearing this level of detail from the offense, which leaves me somewhat concerned.

Twitter me

Given that CBP is a defensive-minded coach it would make sense to me that his focus is on the defense and that is where his commentary is coming from. I expect that he trusts his offensive coordinator to be getting the job done on the other side.

Um shouldn't we not be talking about potential recruits? Is that not still an NCAA violation?

The quote above is about Dax, not a recruit.

Thanks I was definitely not following the conversation

Just as an FYI - VT was the first P5 offer, then UNC (first in-state P5 offer), Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio State

Composite 4 star as well

And if you're wondering, 2023 class is almost wrapped up in terms of new offers. This will be a culture and relationship class.

One of the HS parents I work with mentioned Pry is focused on 24 and 25. We are well ahead on a couple of potential 5 stars bc of the effort.

Do I think the fan base will be patient? That's the issue Pry will face year 1 and 2. As I mentioned in another thread, let's get bowl eligible this fall, and it'll be a huge success to his first season.

You gotta be able to sell hope. If Pry can finish the year better than he started, and improve recruiting with each class, then the (majority of the) fanbase will be happy.

Twitter me

You gotta be able to sell hope. If Pry can finish the year better than he started, and improve recruiting with each class, then the (majority of the) fanbase will be happy.

IDK about happy, necessarily, but I agree with you otherwise. Like, if we start 0-6 and finish 3-3 with a win over UVA I don't think fans will be happy, per se, but I do believe they would look at improvements as positive signs and have realistic hopes of continued improvement into 2023

That's where I'm at, at least. I don't really expect this team to win much in '22. I'm just looking for improvements from week to week. I want to see that the coaches are actually coaching the players and that they learn from mistakes they make early in the season and finish strong at the end of the season. I don't expect this defense to stifle anyone. I don't expect this offense to light up the scoreboard. I do want to see the team find an identity on both sides of the ball and start playing into that identity by the end of the year. If we can win 2 or 3 games more in '23 than we do in '22 that will be a good sign, IMO. I think by the end of '24 we'll have a really good idea of whether or not these coaches are going to deliver on our expectations. I think it'll be hard to know for sure after just one season. (FWIW, I said the same thing about Fuente and his staff - it would take a good 3 years to get an idea of where things were going - after a great start in year 1 and a slight regression in year 2, year 3 really showed his true colors but for some reason it took until year 6 to do anything about it)

Onward and upward

It's so situational. If we finish 3-9 but we have a top 20 recruiting class, the fans will have hope. If we finish 6-6 with most of those wins coming at the end, and there's a top 30 class with a few 4-stars, the fan base will have hope.

I do want to see the team find an identity on both sides of the ball and start playing into that identity by the end of the year

I tend to agree with you here. Defensive hasn't had an identity since Foster left. Offense hasn't had an identity since 2016. Previous staff wasn't able to move from vision -> strategy -> execution. The current staff looks like they are doing it (so far).

I have hope right now. Thus, as a fan, I am happy.

Twitter me

I think you and I just have different ideas on what makes (a majority of) fans happy. Hope might be enough for you and me but I don't know that it's enough for the majority. I agree with you on just about every point here. I just don't know that (a majority of) fans would be happy after 3-9 or 6-6. They may well have hope, though.

Onward and upward

I think there's a consideration here - this is based on Pry. Think about this from a couple different angles - how would we be doing if Fuente was still here? Who were the other coaches we were hoping to possibly get, and how are they doing at the schools they went to? What are the things Pry is doing or has done that may not be paying dividends yet (or smaller that we think might grow)?

To answer a couple of those, I think we're definitely going to be a much tougher team than we've been the past few seasons, both mentally and physically. I think we'll actually have an identity and strategy (control the line of scrimmage as a start). Other coaches - I know a LOT of people were hoping for Napier, but after watching some interviews with him and comparing him to Pry, I think we won in a big way in regards to fan engagement (man, some of those Napier interviews I'd be having Fuente flashbacks). We'll have to see the kind of product Napier and Pry put on the field, but also understand that Florida is going to be easier to recruit to than Tech, so take that into consideration when comparing. But overall, yeah, I have hope and as of now, feel happy. Maybe I'd expect more W's as a fan, but if the fan doesn't take into account what the roster was like when Pry got here in terms of what anybody could field with that, very possibly won't be happy. But the point is, if we look like we're putting something together that doesn't get a lot of W's this year but saw development, toughness, fundamentals, good recruiting class, yeah, I'll for sure be happy.

...So 2025 will be the year recruiting really takes off? We haven't had those takes in a couple years and quite frankly I've missed them.

This will be a culture and relationship class.

I get this feeling too. This is the "we want guys who want to be Hokies" class that Pry hopes sets the culture so that if/when higher rated recruits come in they'll be indoctrinated instead of feeling entitled (see Texas, LSU, Miami).

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

This seems like more buzz from guys going to camps at Tech than in the past. Is that my imagination? Are guys just posting the tweets more? Good sign or hard to take a read from?

More camps and probably a bigger push from the new staff with the marketing group to get visibility up.

This kid is going to be REALLY good! Wouldn't be surprised if we get him and at least one if not 2 4star WRs!

Pulling this kid from the grasps of WVU is a big pull and is exactly why we hired Rudolph. Hope the predictions are accurate and we keep him in the boat through signing. Although, I have faith that Rudolph can deliver

Can't remember if I mentioned this but we offered 2 757 class of 2026 kids recently. We were their 2nd D1 offers

This stuff always blows my mind. So much can happen between now and then.

Of all the things I hate about recruiting, offering 8th graders being the norm is probably #2 on my list

UConn's access to NYC is a major NIL driver.

They also have Jim Mora Jr. as coach now. And while his coaching record is pretty mediocre in both the NFL and college, as we've seen just being able to say you've been there can help you make some inroads

Uconn has about as much access to NYC as to Boston.

I don't know about "access" bc Storrs is in the middle of nowhere (but there's an interstate a short drive away?), but there are a ton of UCONN alumni in both cities

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Rutgers would be a bigger draw in NYC than UCONN. If we were talking about a basketball player then I could see where you are coming from. Unfortunately when it comes to football most of the UCONN alumni have low expectations and expect any success to be fleeting.

There aren't even a lot of people in NJ who care that much about Rutgers lol

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Ditto UCONN football in CT. I'm surprised the NY college football market is still a conversation. Since moving back to the northeast I've yet to find any real interest.

Is there actually an NYC college football discussion? I have not see it. I grew up in SW CT and lived in NYC. Much of my family and friends are still there.

There is a TV market for college football in the NYC because it is such a melting pot of people from all over. Doesn't matter your college team because you can find a watch party at a bar on game day.

Things you got to remember are 1) NYC has lots of pro sports. 2) If the stadium is outside the city it's got to be easy to get to. 3) New York is a hustle so if I help you what do I get out of it?

About #2: East Harford is not an easy ride that an average New Yorker will find worth their while. Hooray I get to go to East Hartford. I could check out Cabelas or go hangout in Hartford. Hard pass.

About #3: I do not mean this in a bad way. I recieved so many free tickets to pro sporting games just for doing my job. "Somebody knows somebody and I got these tickets. You're a hardworker and I want you to have them." It was their way of taking care of their own. That was how they got value out of their season tickets. I have sat by the glass at a Rangers game and as a Mets fan my favorite was first row seats in Shea 10ft past 3rd base.

Growing up in SW CT I had a teacher who would always get NCAA basketball tourney tournament tickets at the Garden. No idea how he got them but he would use them to reward some students who did well.

For any younger Hokies reading this who might be living in NYC. Check out the Glove Gloves champion. It's a hell of a time for a cheap ticket.

Could have had family that went to UConn.

"Ayobami Tifase" anagrams to "Yo I Mafia Beast", and I'm okay with that.

Excited about this one!

Rudolph is killing it early, hopefully we can get. JC price finding more d line commits and turn this team back into a tough, hard nosed program. Mid west finesse football wasnt working at tech

I'd say Texas/plains states finesse football wasn't working. When I think Midwest football I think Wisconsin/Iowa and a strong run game with road graders at OL.

If only we had somebody who orchestrated some of those road grading OLs...

The more I watch this the more I think this is from the previous staff. May not be pertinent. I just saw a couple of highschool OL retweet this

Yeah it looks like Teller and Yosh in the clips. Why is this being randomly posted now?

Definitely dated.

In the first clip, hard to tell who the coach is, but in the 2nd you can clearly see Vice flash across the screen a few seconds before the end.

For sure an old one lol. First part features Teller, Chung, and good ole' Mega Jesus himself so it's like 4 years old at least.

Big leg for the Mega Jesus reference lol!!!! I forgot about that

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

ALL the OL. That would make 5. 5 or 6 for this class would very nice

NC State has 3 OL commits and plans to take a 4th. It appears it'll be Smith or RJ Grigsby for the last spot. Good chance that if Grigsby commits, then it'll be between VT and UNC. I don't see Smith at UNC though, I think they only offered because NC State offered.

This is a big win for the staff, this is the type of player that has to be the foundation for a successful VT.

So, with today's commitment, our new average position rank is 77.44. Fuente's last was 97.
If you break it down by units:
OL: 28, 86, 68, 90= 68
DL: 74
WR: 119, 101 = 110
RB:
LB:
DB: 81 (athlete rating)
QB: 50
ST:

As far as building a roster, we seem to be bunching up on the OL. Hoping we round out the rest nicely.

If we end up with 300lb linemen at all offensive positions, I think we'd be pretty unstoppable.

I want to say this is a great way to look at how well a staff is doing. It is entirely possible that any years class might be higher rated just because there were more high end players that year. But position rank should show that we are getting players that more teams are recruiting.

Not seeing much in the way of quarterback recruits or prospects so far under Pry (just based on 247 quick look). Whats the deal? Any insight from folks on that front?

Many things did not go right in the Fuente era, but in my opinion the single biggest failure of that staff was to land a game changing QB. Nothing earth shaking there, just the longer I watch college football, the more I think thats the only thing that really matters.

Aside from the one we have committed?

I think Wittke could be a poaching target. Once he camps this summer and actual starts for his high school team, if he's as good as the staff thinks he is his rating could skyrocket and some of the big boys might get involved.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Wells has 3 years of eligibility and Sam Howell would like you to know oline matters

I've been told that 2023 isn't a great quarterback class. 2024s and 2025s are better skill wise even though they are younger!

QB recruiting was not terrible under Fuente. QB development and retention was terrible.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

See Hooker, Hendon

Brought in Wells and Brown from the portal in '22, signed Devin Farrell in the '22 cycle, Wittke is committed in the '23 cycle. Not sure what else we'd be looking for at this specific point in time

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Yeah, Im not saying there aren't bodies. Hopefully one of those guys pans out. Its not really a knock on the staff or the guys we've recruited. More of just a lament that non-blue-boods pretty much live and die by really good QB play, and its been a long time since we had a star at that position. Guys can always surprise, but right now that star power is not necessarily in sight.

QB play, I think wells has the arm, and looks like he can take off and get some yards when things break down. Must cut down in int, and work on accuracy, and timing. A 3 year starter could reap some dividends if he has receivers to get open. A strong run game could make his job easier also.

Arch is the only one left. And we aren't getting him. We aren't going to flip the USC guy or the Tennessee guy. That's all the 5 stars this year.

QBs are the earliest in the cycle. I actually think they have done a great job considering the garbage situation inherited. VT had a very real chance of not having a legit QB on the roster next year when CBP was hired. It was as bad as it gets.

They addressed the ridiculousness of CB at QB and retained him to play another position (win), brought in two legit transfers who can play now (win 2) and got a commit from a VERY underrated guy who is only rated that way because he didn't start last year due to the senior being Stanford's top QB recruit. His performance at camps has been resoundingly impressive and the challenge will be holding onto him.

I would suggest your scan of 24-7 implies you think that's the entire story and it certainly is not.

Additionally, the staff must move on to 2024 QB recruits to try and get a good one as they will commit within the next 6-9 months.

Huh? I never said we didn't do well. Above in this thread I mentioned we got Wells for 3 years, as that's a good thing.

My comment you replied to is just pointing out to all those that think we should be going gangbusters on a QB that they're taken for 2023. My scan of 247 suggests there are only three 5 * QBs in 2023 and those are the guys people are talking about. In the last 20 years it's 5 stars QBs that have run the show at VT. Thomas was lucky his first year to have, at the time, the two all-time leading recievers in VT history. And the top single season rusher. Since then our best season was with the top 2 all time leading recievers, with one of the top recieving TEs VT has ever had. You want ACC championships, then historically 5* QBs it is.

I think he was just building off what you said as a response to the other guy who was saying Pry hasn't done well in recruiting a (really) good QB, just worded in a way that made it sound like it was your comment he was referring to. Or he just meant to or should have responded directly to the other guy, not you.

Yeah that other guy was full of bologna.

Nah, I hear you guys. Pry is doing a fine job with the situation he inherited and he is basically still in damage control mode. I get it. Im just saying the path to the promised land has to come through an elite QB at some point. Fuente had some respectable recruiting classes for a few years (and put a lot of guys in the NFL), but just never found the guy at that position. More than any other single factor that will again decide the fate of this staff and the program.

I'd argue Hendon was that guy at that position. Our coaches just completely bungled it. The further we get from the previous staff the more and more I think they (Cornelsen in particular) had no effing clue. Just look at where they ended up

Onward and upward

Fair enough. He's certainly turning some heads at UT.

I am totally ready for Wittke to jump to mid 4* and be hyped only to get burned.

That place is absolutely toxic. I would advise staying away from there for your sanity's sake.

I value the basketball recruiting insight that Arvin and our old friend Wartooth give, but everything else is complete noise.

Little Bobby Tables told me my signature was false

Tangential to recruiting: Tech put out the architecture RFP for design services for locker room renovations. One of the stated goals of the project is to recruit and retain players with the updated environment.
It's a two phase deal with a feasibility study and then potential instruction document phase after. The proposed schedule has construction complete by 5/30/24.
Apparently, the current locker room has pods or "silos" and the team can't all engage in one space.

You had me looking up the current RFPs to see if they had any new projects. Nothing I think my firm could win...

Previously LowBrau.

You can come join my firm. We can lose the rfp's together.

Dante Lovett has been pretty active on twitter trying to help recruit for us

Who was the last top player in the state that committed to the good guys? Was it Tyrod?

Yep! And if you want to hear something really sad--VT hasn't landed a top 5 in-state recruit who has played meaningful reps for us since 2015's Tim Settle. Before that? 2009 -- Logan Thomas.

Other top 5 in-state players we landed during that time period but who didn't pan out:
Jaden Payoute
Holland Fischer
Devon Hunter
Joel Caleb

Pretty slim pickings.

This is why "winning VA" doesn't seem as important to me. Get the best players from wherever they are (primarily from our entire footprint),

Sorry, I could have worded my initial post better. I definitely wasn't trying to imply that VA players are not good, just pointing out that we have only landed 6 of the last 70 top 5 in-state recruits and that is plain terrible. Even UVA has landed 9 in that same time. It takes Penn State about 3 years to get six top 5 VA recruits, and UNC can probably do it every two years.

I don't know about "winning Virginia" but we definitely need to recruit better here. Most top 5 VA recruits are top 100 players nationally, so even if we just start to land one per year that would be huge for our program. I think a very realistic baby-step goal for our new coaching staff is to land two top-10 VA recruits each year. If we can't get to that point in the next 4 years or so, then I don't expect things to change much.

I interpret 'winning the state' and 'winning our footprint' (from the DMV down through NC) as the same thing. Every nationally relevant team essentially has 'first right of refusal' for every recruit in their state.

Anyways, for us to get to a point where we have 'first right of refusal,' we need prioritize recruiting in our footprint first.

Twitter me

I never understood how Joel Caleb didnt get on the field. We didnt know how to use him.

Pour some Beer on it

I had to look it up but he played QB in high school yet his recruit ranking was based on him being a WR, so since we tried to make into a running back for some reason I think that was the core issue. i'm not sure how Loeffler looked at a WR corp of Willie Byrn, Josh Stanford, and Demitri Knowles and thought "oh yeah, we're set" but the rest is history lol.

Why didn't he find the field after transferring?

I went to his rival HS at the same time as him....I watched him play a lot in HS I don't think he ever jumped off the field as a great QB or athlete. I didn't follow recruit rankings or HS recruiting at all back then. I know he didn't grade as a QB and maybe he was that much better at WR, I know he played a ton of positions but I think he got a lot of gifts in his ranking or he camped much better than what I saw on the field.

I went to his rival HS

You went to Cosby? I went to Clover Hill, class of 2010. If not then I have no clue who our rival is ๐Ÿ˜…

Ugh, yup. 2007 Tyrod Taylor. Had a couple of #2s and 3s since then but he was the last overall top rated virginia player to commit

Landing the #1 recruit in VA would bring legitimacy to the Pry staff, not unlike how landing Cornell Brown brought legitimacy to Beamer's staff. Would be a huge get.

Twitter me

Not to harsh your mellow or hit you with a WeLL acTuALly, but there's a lot of time between now and nsd for the 24 class. I totally agree with your premise, just that it's not a certainty that Adams will be the #1 in-state croot come nsd

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Totally recognize that.

Every great turn around/start up job requires people to buy into the vision, before something of value actually exists - just pointing out that landing the #1 croot in VA (regardless of if it's Adams or someone else) will show definitive proof of concept for Pry's recruiting vision.

Twitter me

That's a good point, we should go ahead and land the top 3 just to be safe.

Top 3, top 5, whatever it takes.

Just to be sure.

"They were very upfront and honestly, they didn't sugarcoat or sell dreams like a lot of others schools to try and get me at VT," Adams said.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?

"VT definitely moved up," Adams said. "The old coaching staff didn't put in effort to try and get me there. The new coaching staff made me feel like a priority the whole time I was there," Adams said.

edit: Adding link to article https://techlunchpail.com/blog/2024-four-star-wr-keylen-adams-recaps-vir...

Have heard numerous similar sentiments from recruits. Old staff didn't bother making an effort in VA, didn't really recruit me at all, etc. Loving the new approach and energy from the new staff, it seems very well received.

Imagine them putting in that little of an effort into one of the best (if not the best) kid in your own state though....

What's the source on this? Best to give proper attribution

Carmelo Taylor from PH would be a huge get. I believe he has a really solid chance at being a top 3 player in VA at seasons end and I expect some bigger dogs to come calling, even though he already has PSU and USCE. I have heard his family has some UVA connections and that may be his preferred destination. We need to get on this kid ASAP

Edit: will also add we are looking at him specifically for offense which he prefers. Could help depending on which way the other schools lean.

Go for it

Wait do you mean Patrick Henry high in Ashland?

That page is saying we have 0 WR on the roster and 0 commits. Big if true. We can definitely sell early playing time if that is the case.

TSL got it wrong. His younger brother is a rising sophmore, played MLB for them last fall at 6'0 180. We were his first offer.

That would be a wicked multi-sport athlete. (Though it would mean that the NCAA would rule him ineligible until he transferred to UNC.)

Nice! Coach Mines out here out-recruiting Torrian Gray! Didn't know he had ended up at South Carolina, but that makes sense.

I saw this. While at the same point 18yr old kids are quick to jump to comments like that now. Hell, I have been on officials and at that age, no matter where you take a visit, it seems like the real deal in the moment. However, it's good publicity and I trust in Pry and co. to gain the ability to go get the top va guys. Let's win games, then see if we can get back to that brand of football we all love!

Yeah, it needs a large grain of salt, but it's better than no one talking about VT being bak.

Technically, I don't think we're bak until we prove Miami isn't.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Miami will likely prove they are not bak all by themselves. VT won't have to prove it.

Go Hokies!!

Is it some sauce or just reading into it? I could see it as Welcome nod to the commits that took their OVs this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if it was for a new one though after the visits.

Does this mean the lunch pail is back??

I was just trying to figure out what the hell big frozone meant and totally missed that detail. Big news if Pry got Bud's good graces to bring it back.

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

I'm starting to think Bud didn't want the lunch pail/LPD to be associated with Fu's sinking ship.

Thrift store maybe? Or current players trying to get rid of them?

Funny you say that. Mrs. Fireman found on eBay Vance Vice's windbreaker short sleeve jacket so she bought it for me for fathers day. Has his name embroidered on it at the tag and everything,

this begs the question -- you have short sleeve windbreakers in three colors, or you have three of vance vice's short sleeve windbreakers in different colors

The first one is from an Olympic sport assistant coach, second one is from another football staffer not coach and now this one from Vance. I hate sleeves so wife has been finding me these since 2014.

Hates sleeves you say, this sounds like something some one should put in their spreadsheet incase they ran across something like that for them

They have been selling them via the surplus auctions like crazy. Whole boxes of grit and hard hat mentality shirts.

Those are perfect to buy for some garage rags, they already have some grit on them ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ

Ooooo....might have to stop by and check this out.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

So, we got Caleb Woodson, Cotman, and Johnson, all committing between Thursday and Friday, I believe. Any shot we get all 3?

EDIT: So, it looks like the Pry signal is up on Twitter, can't embed from work computer, but some good news incoming!

Curious what this means for Robinson, Keys, Bass, and Rojas

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Considering the 22 class had no linebackers, probably nothing. We ain't getting Rojas though

Yeah Rojas seems out. Some of these guys might be able to transition to edge too.

Kamren Robinson is committing on Friday or Saturday, and Williams on July 4th as well.

I think we get Woodson, Johnson, Williams, and maybe Robinson.

Lot of talk we locked up Krystian Williams as well; would be another huge get.

I forgot about NC WR Tralon Mitchell who is committing Saturday as well, we just received a crystal ball for his commitment

We've got 3 CB's in for him right now...

So maybe the recruiting rankings are inflated this class or something, but does it feel like the new staff are getting a bunch of guys evaluated at the 86/87 level? The previous staff seemed to be grabbing a bunch of 84/85 at the end there.
Maybe this is a misconception and I'm just being overly hopeful. But it feels like even though the 2023 class won't be star studded, the floor is at least being raised.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Of our 10 commits, only 4 are in that range? Our average rating has finally gone above 86 in the last little bit. And if the tea leaves are correct, we are probably landing a few recruits in that 86/87 range in the very near future.

Just to add on to this, until the last conmit raised us above an 86, this was on par with the worst classes from Fuente. We are still far off from the 2019 class, and the 2022 class, which Fuente had a large roll in putting together is still rated high per recruit.

There is only one player in the 2023 that is ranked higher than the average of the 2019 class. The same can be said about the 2022 class.

We have a ways to go until signing day, but from a composite score this class isn't any better than most of Fuente's classes, it's just better than the 2020 class when our recruiting department left for another job

While this is true, just about zero of our higher rated panned out. So while the averages were better, the old staff seemed to do a pretty crappy job of evaluating talent. Obviously we have no idea how well the new class evaluates talent yet.

Different conversation, but based on the guys that left, evaluations didn't seem to be the issue

Don't take my post as a negative about this class. I expect several of our current commits to increase their ratings. We have several seemingly potential commits that look nice as well.

I'm judging this class less on overall rating and more on filling out a roster. Fuente left too many voids. And the positions he did fill didn't always get filled with people who were up to the task. If Pry can demonstrate he can evaluate our roster and can fill out the roster, close off our talent gaps, address depth issues, then I'll be happy with the class. This is regardless of the overall class rank or average recruit rank. I want people who are good at their position at every position, not some inflated average based on having a bunch of high rated individuals in a handful of positions.

Ha fair enough. So it's definitely just that I'm hopeful.
Maybe it's just that most of the targets currently being posted here are in that range. Either way, hopefully this class helps build relationships for the staff.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

the floor is at least being raised.

At the very least, the floor will be the ceiling, which as we all know, is the roof.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Maybe my impression is wrong, but it sure seems like VT is a blue blood when compared to the other offers of many VT's recent verbals.

I'm not sure what to make of this.

For those tryna keep track at home. Gonna be a lot of news in the upcoming week and we can get a really good sense of whether VT is bak in the state of VA yet or nah based on some of these outcomes

I like the cut of your jib

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

So I'm curious about the kid from Indy and if he has ties to Virginia? Just wondering since that is outside of the "6 hour footprint" Pry was talking about, so was not sure if he had ties to VT or not.

Believe his brother might have known Pry from Penn State where he played briefly

Good enough for me. If he's a LB and Pry wants him, I want him.

Yup, this one is basically a steal your girl moment. We offered him the night before he was supposed to release his top 3 and he changed it to his top 4 to include us

Are you implying that maybe the Hokies are now a "Big Dog" rolling in to steal a croot?

To be fair, he didn't play a lot but did spend 3 years at PSU with Pry, so imagine his family is very familiar with him

Kid picked the good guys.

Got one!

Downside: our highest rated recruit is 88.
Upside: lowest rate recruit is 85.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

and believe it or not....ratings change and it wouldn't surprise me if some of these kids become 4 stars during their Senior Year.

Yup. And good coaching can turn an 88 into a 98.

Look at Antone Exum. 88 rated S, but got coached up to make All-ACC.

The floor is definitely being raised from a ratings standpoint. Now it's up to coaching and development.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Pry may not get as many wr as the last regime, but he damn sure will be getting LB guys. His reputation of installing LB s in the league is paying off.

Back to our roots, a dominating Defense and a hopefully somewhat adequate offense.

Hopefully good. We've got a gunslinger for the next couple of years, line really concerns me for the next 2 though.
