I was very "meh" about the first two episodes. I think Ewan alone might be enough to carry my interest through the series, but so far the Third Sister as a primary antagonist is just not very interesting to me.

I'm sure that there's a back story for why she hates Kenobi (there better be) but I would have preferred a non-human antagonist for the primary enemy hunting him. The parkour through the city using the force was pretty cool though. Killing off your Dark-side rival when he thinks you are being obedient and is blinded by his desire to capture the ultimate prize? Classic Star Wars Sith move.

my biggest thing from the first two Eps is wondering how many people know that Vader is Anakin? From the Thrawn novel Alliances it sounds as if Vader really really really wants to reduce people having that knowledge.

That part was cool, because its not something i've ever really thought about. When we meet Obi Wan originally, he has known who Vader was for some time. But I've never actually thought about how he found out to begin with. I guess I always just assumed that he knew from the jump.
But it makes sense that he would assume Anakin was dead given the state he was in when he high grounded him on Mustafar. Now how Reva could possibly know will be interesting to see. Only the Emperor knew he was still alive, considering it was all droids building his armor and saving him. Yoda possibly if he could sense him. But other than that what evidence would exist for someone to just find?

She has no idea who Leia really is. Otherwise she could just tell Vader "Hay I found your kid". She just happened to be the kid she used as bait to draw him out, and since everyone in this massive galaxy is connected to the Skywalkers...
And again, it's not like Palpatine would have made a publicly available record of his "creation" of Darth Vader. Which still begs the question, how would someone find out that wasn't involved? I'm cool with her knowing, I just hope they explain it at some point. Because for her to be the one to break the news to Obi Wan, "oh she just knew" will be a huge weakness in the show IMO.
In the canon, Grand Admiral Thrawn figures it out, but that's also because A) he's one of the most brilliant minds the galaxy has ever seen and B) he had occasion to conduct missions with both Anakin and Darth Vader and picked up on a number of similarities. In particular he recognizes a combat move that Vader keeps doing in his TIE. Same goes for all the other characters that knew the connection (Yoda, Bail, Tarkin, Darth Maul), they were all people that interacted with Anakin AND Vader. So it wouldn't be a case of just some records of it laying around.

It's also canon that Thrawn also pieces together that Vader is Anakin, and given the dance around his live action introduction I could see a reference being made. Not entirely sure how the timeline matches up, but I think it would?

Ewans back is gonna be sore if he has to carry the series like he did in the first two episodes. Plenty of good but wtf is everyone getting a star wars cameos regardless of if you can act? Did we really need Flea as a bounty hunter? I'm cheering for obi wan to kill the third sister simply because her acting is cringey.
Loved the bit of him chasing Leia and recognizing padme in her. Those are the moments that can make this show special.

Yeah, as others have commented, Reva is a great character in terms of her ambition and ruthlessness. I was also jarred out of the magic of the moment by the delivery of some of Ingram's lines. But Im sure she'll settle into the role and maybe just have a bit of a unique style through-out, which Im cool with.
Love the Inquisitors though. Ive been watching Rebels for a little while, where they are also featured prominently, and I think they're a perfect representation of the institutionalization of the dark side side of the force while the Sith are in power. Clearly the emperor wants to have more than one force sensitive in his employ. But the numbers are kept in check by the back stabbing, in-fighting, and perpetual power struggle to gain more favor. Texbook Sith philosophy.

Yeah I guess my issue with the third sister is more the way she acts I like more nuanced baddies like dooku, Vader, maul who didn't need to say much for you to know they were bad asses. When she was screaming at them as the flew off it felt a bit fake/too much to be a serious baddie but that's more my personal taste

I am a longtime Star Wars nerd. Own all the movies (yes, even those two, on VHS, one pirated by my dad in 1984)
I grew up reading many of the book series (don't get me started on Vector Prime; only time I've ever purposefully defenestrated a book), and even a few standalones, but up until yesterday, I never watched a full episode of any of the live action or animated tv shows. Maybe because the timelines of my childhood got erased, maybe because the storylines weren't anything I was interested in, maybe it was because I don't have cable and don't pay for streaming services other than Netflix and a few others.
Obi-Wan returned a lot of the same feelings I had when my dad first showed me A New Hope back in the early 90s. Third Sister felt like a young pure Sith. Ruthless. Cunning. Machiavellian. Impulsive.
I loved the return of Bail and his interactions with Leia. Cultivating in her the sense of selfless leadership she will soon display, as well as her impish qualities that made us all fall in love with her back in the original trilogy.
Also, savage baby Leia. That interaction with her cousin...haven't seen a burn like that since Mustafar

While I really liked the Mandalorian, especially the first season, and without a doubt deserves a watch, I would argue that The Clone Wars animated series (the cannon 3d one) is more worth watching first. While it is obviously a kids show at times it did so much to help the story of the prequels, not to mention it is pulled from pretty heavily in a lot of the live action shows. Also, it could be surprisingly violent and mature at times for being a show that was largely aired on cartoon network.

Ewan is carrying the show. And idk why Disney feels the need to balance out every interesting plot point with a cringey unnecessary scene.

She doesn't know who Leia is. She figured out in the records that Obi-Wan and Bail Organa had a close relationship, and deduced (correctly) that OB would come out of hiding to help his old friend if she kidnapped his kid.
Only Obi, Yoda, the Organas, and Uncle Owen and Beru know that Anakin has kids.

Because she knew that Bail and Obi-Wan were boys going back to the Clone Wars, and that if she could kidnap Bail's daughter (because that's all she thinks Leia is)...then a very likely scenario is that Bail reaches out to his longtime friend and also Jedi Master to help get her back.
If she knew who Leia really was, she would just have her kidnapped and turned over directly to Vader. But she doesn't. She even says specifically she chose Leia because of the records she found in the archives about the connection between the two men. After Order 66 and the Jedi Purge, is there really anyone left alive other than Yoda that Obi-Wan would have a connection to besides Bail? She calculated on it drawing him out because of their friendship, not because she thinks Leia is more important

Taking a step back from the series for a second, I just want to say I'm happy that Hayden Christensen is getting another shot as Anakin/Vader. Seeing him in the leadup hype for the series, you can just tell he's happy to be back and working in this world, and with some really good writing right now, it really could push things in the right direction for him. Always felt like he got a lot of unnecessary hate for the prequels that simply came down to bad writing, so this could be a great chance at redemption.
And if it works, I would absolutely love to see more Vader, at least the kind of overpowering Vader we saw at the end of Rogue One.

Agreed. I didn't come away with any "hate" for him from the prequels because the scripts just were not very good. They even managed to make Natalie Portman look silly and stilted, and she's a boss.
And to your last point, yes! I hope to see Vader just wrecking some shit. I'd love for a scene of him in his TIE Defender. I think this series has a great opportunity to show him at the peak of his power, but also give small glimpses to further reinforce his ultimate redemption in the original trilogy.

Third episode was just ... ew. The whole fight scene with Vader was gross to me. They made Obi-Wan a little bitch. There better be a redemption arc where he learns to fight like his old self again, because that was borderline ridiculous.
Also how did not only the rebel girl and the inquisitor miss each other in the tunnel, but the inquisitor was able to somehow pass Leia in the tunnel and get there first? Unless she somehow knows exactly where it leads. Maybe the same intuition which led her to walk up to the exact house they were hiding in?

I am a little underwhelmed. The reunion was really one sided and there was minimal tension for me because Obi-Wan has plot armor and he obviously wasn't going to die here!!!
It will be really interesting for me to see how this all resolves and ends up with Obi-Wan back on Tattooine looking over Luke/Owen/Beru as the series started.
Reva somehow beating Leia to the end of the tunnel doesn't do it for me either.

This show was never going to be perfect. It's run by Disney and because of that's it's going to be full of fan service. Not like we can't expect more from them, but I'm not shocked that Obi Wan has plot armor and the other issues. As long as Reva's story gets more explanation (I like the theory French mentioned about her being a youngling at the Jedi temple during Order 66. If she's about 20 then that checks out), then I think the actress is killing it.
But, I'm glad they're explaining a couple gaps between the trilogies (e.g. how Leia knows Obi Wan, but Luke only knows him as Ben). Also, Hayden Christensen's physical presence as Darth Vader has been on point. He feels just as intense and menacing as the first time we all saw Vader in A New Hope

The wife and I got caught up yesterday and this is exceeding what little expectations I had. Ep3 was very well done from start to finish IMO. Hayden Christensen in the Vader armor is both terrifying and awesome at the same time. When he came through the mining camp snapping necks my jaw dropped and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It felt very similar to watching Ledger's Joker in just how captivating yet horrifying Vader has been every time he's on screen.
At the end of the day it's good Star Wars and Ewan is killing it so I'm happy with it.

There are a few plot holes that are tough to overlook while watching this show. Her openly giving instructions to Obi-Wan while the rest of the room minds their own business was pretty bad, to be honest. Then the sequence in the flooding hallway when Obi-Wan somehow makes it through the door without a drop of water making it through was suspect as well. And then the speeders at the end flying deep inside the cargo bay/loading dock to light shit up and then in the next scene somehow being outside again.
I'm not saying that its necessarily bad, but these little things add up, and distract you from an otherwise decent story. Some of the Vader dialogue lines are pretty bad as well, but considering that's how they've written him since the prequels, maybe being ineloquent is a character trait?

As for the showrunner, the whole franchise has been a bit of a mess since Kennedy took over. Saw a good video over the weekend that did a good job of explaining that, under her watch, they've actually cheapened the overall lore by skipping over key character development in order to push an agenda to solve a problem that history shows wasn't exactly there in the sci-fi genre.

Because if you watched it you'd know that it was actually vouching for actual strong female lead characters and accusing Star Wars of basically using the claim of having a strong female lead to wipe out criticisms over legitimate plot holes and bad storylines. And that Kennedy claiming the strong female lead is something that's never existed before spits in the face of those that came before like Ripley in Alien, Sarah Connor in Terminator, and hell, even Leia in Star Wars. Strong female leads are absolutely a good thing to have and something to be celebrated but thinking you're breaking new ground in the 2010s by writing one in is just not at all accurate, especially in sci-fi. Some of the absolute best movies over the last 50 years are powered by them.

To further what Alum said, The Third Sister was tampering with the flying discman droid during the interrogation with Leia and had evil red lights on as the camera zoomed in on it at (or near) the end of the episode. A fairly good backup plan. However, what sits wrong with me is it seems like the tracker was plan A, but Leia was about to be put in that weird amber stuff like the other Jedi were so the discman droid tracker doesn't really work.
There's also the question I have about all the Jedi in Base/fortress/maybe Sith Temple. Is the amber stuff a frozen in Carbonite situation or are all the Jedi dead?

I enjoyed this episode. The shot with Obi Wan lightsabering the stormtroopers in the dark put a big smile on my face. Sure there were some questionable narrative choices but the writing was still much better than the hot mess of head scratchers and convenient plot devices that is Return of the Jedi.

I think this series is suffering from the same problems that Book of Boba Fett suffered from... not great writing.
The effects and acting have been pretty great, but a lot of the story choices feel like they needed a bit more time in the oven. They aren't necessarily bad, but it all feels sloppy or maybe rushed. It feels more like a roleplaying session that it does like quality storytelling.

I just don't really like what they've done with Obi-Wan, I can get over some of the writing issues. In the prequels, Obi-Wan was confident, quick witted, smart, and a powerful jedi. Here he seems lost, weak and a shell of his old self.

Watching him be weak and confused is not fun, but I think it makes complete sense. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, he's spent the last 20 years as part of an order that has been wiped out, serving a republic that became an evil empire, and his best friend and apprentice went full heel and became a monster, so I'm very ok with it.
I'm hoping that over the next two episodes he gets some renewed strength and purpose and you see him settle into his role as protector of Luke on Tatooine.

Okay, so I have a hot take, but isn't this why people watch Star Wars? It's supposed to be cheap fun where you're not too invested in the characters, and don't need to be paying attention to every little detaill. It's pretty straight forward good vs evil.
When I think of Star Wars, I'm just looking to have fun and not over analyze anything. It's not Game of Thrones, which is both an emotional and intellectual roller coaster, or West World which is a complete and total mindfuck, it's just fun.

On the other, there is about 50 years worth of established lore within the Star Wars universe that you should generally stay within while making these movies and shows and it's worth criticizing Disney when they don't. When even Mark Hamill, a guy who basically is Star Wars, struggles to hide his dissatisfaction with the most recent movies, there's definitely a bit of a problem there.

I'm with you in that Star Wars excels when it's just fun, and you don't have to think on it too hard. I don't need this show to be Bettter Call Saul or Stranger Things.
But what I do need...is for a lightsaber to freaking wreck stuff! Because that's what a lightsaber does. And that's fun! Watching an all time Jedi Master get knocked around for 66% of a limited series run isn't the most entertaining thing.
I'll use the game Jedi: Fallen Order as a great example. Know why that game is so fun? Because you get to destroy Stormtroopers with Force Pull and a lightsaber all day. You "feel" like a Jedi. And the story was better than what Obi-Wan has given us to this point to be honest

I saw an interesting thing somewhere online (not sure where but I'll dig, reddit?) that the general plot of each episode so far has mirrored the number of each movie episode. First episode is harsh reality of Tattooine and having to adjust outside of that, second episode is kidnapped princess and an underworld, third episode is faceoff between Obi-Wan and Anakin featuring fire, fourth is obi wan breaking and entering into an empire "impregnable fortress" and leaving with a tracker. Here's the guess that the fifth episode will be imperial attack on the nascent rebelling a la Hoth, and that the sixth episode will be another faceoff between Obi-Wan and Vader where Obi-Wan tries to redeem him but fails (with that being obvious foreshadowing of Luke's success in Return of the Jedi)
Still no clue about Reva's backstory and no foreshadowing of a Grand Inquisitor return (but it has to be coming, right?)
So does that mean Obi-Wan loses his hand this week and then next week Reva is redeemed as a Jedi on her deathbed?
Oh and obviously if we follow this, Grand Inquisitor = Palpatine so we'll see him this week on the throne and next week he dies again, but not really dies

Wow, I honestly didn't think they had it in them, but this episode makes a lot of other things make a good deal more sense. And probably provides us some of the best Anakin/Vader beats Star Wars has (ever?) seen on screen.

The use of the scene on coruscant with the live story was fucking amazing. Vader in all his glory is freaking amazing and one of the reasons I'm here. This episode was brilliant head to toe and obi wan using reva to get to Vader was peak obi wan.
Was Vader's line to her, do you think I didn't notice you or was it that he knew who she was?

He said "Did you think I didn't see?" Or something to that effect. I took it more as did she actually think he couldn't sense her feelings of hatred and revenge towards him. The reveal of the Grand Inquisitor being alive drove that home. It was all part of the plan.
He knew she wanted to use Obi Wan to get to him, and he used that against her because he wanted Obi Wan and wasn't worried about her even a little bit.

The world's lamest villain became a little less lame, but still not interesting enough to keep in the show. Didn't like how she learned about Luke, seems like she's stumbled her way into knowing everything about everything in the show, and always having the right plan, then somehow also being good at the end (despite doing unforgivable things the entire season) bcuz she's a girlboss 😎.
Overall I did like the episode though it was well done. Just wish the plot made a bit more sense

Thought the ending of this series was pretty well done. I had my doubts after episode 4 about all the heavy lifting required to get it across the line but I'll be darned if it didn't do all the heavy lifting and more. Hit the right emotional tone for me and was still fun. Knowing some characters had plot armor lessened some of the tension but seeing how it resolved itself was still satisfying.
Not the biggest fan of reva as a character but at least they did flesh out her character and give her development and growth.
Some real "Twilight Of The Apprentice" vibes (from end of Rebels S2) in this episode but there's a fun twist with the inversion of the role of the former apprentice. Loved that

Just a great scene. The visuals, the sound (with the labored breathing and Hayden's voice mixing with JEJ)...the actual weight of his acceptance of what he has become. Ewan killing it and reminding us that he IS Obi-Wan
Again, I did not think this show had it in it. But that scene will go down as one of my favorite ever in Star Wars. Also reinforces that whole "Darth Vader killed your father" thing too...
The whole "you did not kill him, I did" thing gave me chills.
We also wind up with really really neat symmetry with Obi Wan trying to redeem him and failing, Ahsoka trying to redeem him and failing, and then Luke finally finally succeeding at the very end

Agreed. Fantastic scene. I'm not sure it saves the entire series from some of its glaring holes, but it was good enough that I was glad I stayed to the end.

This scene reminded me so much of when Ashoka tried to redeem him in the temple and realized he was truly gone. In real film it was so well done you could see obi wan was almost given new life realizing Anakin really was gone.

Overall it needed a big finale and we got it epic duel with Vader and Kenobi and obi wan ends it with a flying maneuver that only he would try.
Loved the voice crackling when they spoke and seeing Hayden under the mask just flat out epic.
Loved him telling Leia about padme and Anakin that shit had me welling up big time.
Reva and the grand inquisitor both entered rough to me but by the end felt legit in their roles.
Overall ewan McGregor simply is real life Jesus Christ, he was born a gift to the nerds to play obi wan and every single time he delivers in tremendous fashion. Nobody else could play it as well as he does and that's why he simply will always be my personal favorite Jedi. He's the best blend of bad ass and human emotion all in one.

Luke Skywalker is the greatest Jedi Knight of all time. He was the one who actually brought balance back to the force. And along the way he blew up a couple of Death Stars, destroyed the Empire, defeated Darth Vader in combat, watched the Emperor get tossed town a lightning shaft, and redeemed Anakin's unredeemable soul. Also he's not such a bad pilot and he used to bull's-eye womp rats in his T-16 back home.
He did have a good teacher back in his home town, though.

Honestly, that wasn't very good. The last Vader/Kenobi fight was pretty cool but that's about it. The rest of the series is just filled with too much plot contrivance, painfully bad dialogue, and many other short comings. It started out with some promise but it sputtered too much episode to episode. This would have been better off as a movie

Overall I thought the show was good. Ewan was awesome, young Leia was a cool surprise, had some fun moments and did a good job with Obi Wan's state of mind at that period.
However, I have one "Star Wars fan yells at cloud" complaint": If the baddest mofo in movie history guts you with a lightsaber you should die. You should not be up and at em hours later kidnapping a kid. They wanted to have the reveal where Vader was ahead of Reva the whole time and they also wanted to show her redeeming herself a little bit. That's fine, but they could've put 5 minutes of critical thought into how they did that so that it would make a little bit of sense. It just felt so dumb and lazy.

I think that sometimes your age and when you got into Star Wars has a lot to do with which movies you love the most. A lot of kids grew up on the prequals, which most of us "older" Star Wars fans initially hated.
I think ROTJ was the first one I can remember seeing in the theater, as I was 6 or 7 years old, so I loved the Ewoks at that age, thought they were awesome. ROTJ was always my favorite growing up. Of course kids who were teenagers when ROTJ came out hated the Ewoks, thought they were stupid.
Who knows if the sequel trilogy will enjoy the same popularity in later years as the prequal trilogy (I doubt it). I think the Clone Wars series and subsequent series that expanded on the prequals did a lot to redeem those movies.
I do know I am very interested to see what Taika Waititi does with the new movies that are in development since he will be completely unencumbered by the Skywalker saga, and can do what he wants. IMO he is one of the most talented filmmakers out there today (can't wait for Love and Thunder)

I definitely agree on the age affecting the series you like, I'm a prequels homer since they were coming out when I was introduced to star wars so for me I love all the prequels. The originals are awesome but to me the prequels hold something special since they to me feel like my age groups series.

I actually would rank Rogue One the best Star Wars movie. A complex movie that stands alone from the rest of the franchise and something you can watch on its own and appreciate it without needing to know the rest of the universe. What I like most is that all parties both win and lose in the end.

me too, and it's largely because the big twist in ESB was already in the zeitgeist when i first saw it decades after release, so it was not really a twist at all! it' still very well done.

Can someone explain why Obi-Wan didn't just kill Vader? Obviously there is no star wars if that happens so I assume I just didn't pick up on the reason.
Also it is such an over used cheap trick in all movies where the beaten down old former hero is pathetic the entire time until the very end where they finally regain all of their strength and become more powerful than ever. I would have rather seen Obi-Wan outwit a clearly more powerful Vader who is still blinded by his hatred than have him go all Dragon Ball Z at the end. Lazy and predictable.

I understand in a way the complaint but we go into this show knowing certain characters have plot armor so its not a surprise that the duel ended in Kenobi simply walking away as Vader struggled after being struck the way he did. I personally thought Kenobi would in the end hear a voice from an old friend in Qui-gon who would talk him off from killing vader in the end but that didnt happen.
If I was to assume why he didnt finish him off I would believe Kenobi simply didnt want to kill who in is mind was still Anakin who we know he truly cared for. Even with Vader saying he killed Anakin I think Obi-wan still couldnt bring himself to do it and in a sense he simply felt the need to get back to defending the kids.

Because maybe he felt remorseful or grief over having just beaten someone who until this story began thought he had actually killed anakin on mustafar.
This was always going to be a tricky spot for the show as we knew there was a big duel at some point and somehow both would have to make it out of the duel becuase we all know how this story goes outside the show. I personally dont mind the way it ended Kenobi had defeated Vader and didnt feel the need to execute him which always was something Jedi tried to avoid doing.
To me the line that makes this explanation work is when Obi-wan criticised anakin for executing Dooku claiming its not the Jedi way. I'd imagine Kenobi questioned everything the Jedi were after the fall of the republic but he was always a very by the rules jedi.

It was a fun watch, not amazing, but exactly what I was looking for from Star Wars.
I really liked Vader's line where he said 'I killed Anakin' - In the OG movies, it always sat wrong with me (even as a 5 year old) that Obi-won cryptically told Luke that "Vader 'killed' his father." I think this line kinda made that line from ep 4/5 make sense.

How I read that is she wanted revenge on Anankin for order 66/killing all her friends. I think she said something like "I wanted justice for them" and at that point she had figured out at the end of part V that Luke was Anakins secret son. So by killing him she would take her revenge out on Vader. Just my thoughts, that is how I read it.

She wasn't trying to bring Leia to Vader. She had no idea Vader had kids until she found that holo with Bail mentioning them. She just happened to pick Anakin's secret kid to use as bait to draw out Obi-Wan...so she could kill Vader while he was "blinded" in his pursuit of his old master. He even says it "you're not bringing me to Vader, I'm bringing him to you."
Even she didn't realize the actual connection between Obi-Wan and Leia beyond "he will come help his friend from the Clone Wars"
Not picking on you, just have seen so many comments to that effect and while the show had some poor writing, it was pretty clear the entire time that Reva was clueless as to who Leia actually was.

Obi-Wan gets a hologram message from Bail Organa mentioning "If he found out about the kids" and "I'll head to Tatooine". Reva finds it laying on the ground after they escape and Vader stabs her and leaves her for dead.

Just wanted to acknowledge a juicy morsel I've come across today in reading alot of the thoughts on the show as a whole.
In the end Ashoka was able to only damage the left side of Vaders mask and Obi wan could only damage the right side. Both immediately became remorseful when seeing Anakin behind the mask even if he proclaimed he was vader still. In the end Luke was the one able to fully remove the mask and see Vader redeemed as anakin in the end its fitting as he was the one to bring balance to the force.
Just thought it was significant we got to see Kenobi get a glimpse of Anakin the same way Ashoka did in the jedi temple and to have them both behave and see that Vader really did kill Anakin in the same way being that they were both so close to Anakin.

The grand inquisitor had to be alive because he's alive in the Star Wars Rebels animated show which is set after OWK. There needed to be a reveal of him living or else the internet would be all wtf about it and any subsequent reveal in another series would have a feel of trying to retcon a continuity error via "somehow the grand inquisitor has returned"

I am more excited for Andor than I am the Ashoka series, but that is basically because I never really watched all of the Clone Wars series (just know a lot of the canon from those series bc internet).
As others have mentioned Rouge One was one of the best Star Wars movies of all time, and I am pretty interested in where they go with that character. I also hope we get a lot of Alan Tudyk as K-2SO. This series has so much potential.

I was very "meh" about the first two episodes. I think Ewan alone might be enough to carry my interest through the series, but so far the Third Sister as a primary antagonist is just not very interesting to me.

I'm sure that there's a back story for why she hates Kenobi (there better be) but I would have preferred a non-human antagonist for the primary enemy hunting him. The parkour through the city using the force was pretty cool though. Killing off your Dark-side rival when he thinks you are being obedient and is blinded by his desire to capture the ultimate prize? Classic Star Wars Sith move.

my biggest thing from the first two Eps is wondering how many people know that Vader is Anakin? From the Thrawn novel Alliances it sounds as if Vader really really really wants to reduce people having that knowledge.

I totally agree on McGregor, it's like he was born to play this role. I would keep watching just to enjoy his portrayal and development of the iconic character.
That part was cool, because its not something i've ever really thought about. When we meet Obi Wan originally, he has known who Vader was for some time. But I've never actually thought about how he found out to begin with. I guess I always just assumed that he knew from the jump.
But it makes sense that he would assume Anakin was dead given the state he was in when he high grounded him on Mustafar. Now how Reva could possibly know will be interesting to see. Only the Emperor knew he was still alive, considering it was all droids building his armor and saving him. Yoda possibly if he could sense him. But other than that what evidence would exist for someone to just find?
I would infer she found or simply assumed when she was looking in the records for Leia but that's just a guess.
But she wasn't looking in the records for Leia. She was looking in the records for people with a connection to Obi Wan, and found Bail Organa.
She has no idea who Leia really is. Otherwise she could just tell Vader "Hay I found your kid". She just happened to be the kid she used as bait to draw him out, and since everyone in this massive galaxy is connected to the Skywalkers...
And again, it's not like Palpatine would have made a publicly available record of his "creation" of Darth Vader. Which still begs the question, how would someone find out that wasn't involved? I'm cool with her knowing, I just hope they explain it at some point. Because for her to be the one to break the news to Obi Wan, "oh she just knew" will be a huge weakness in the show IMO.
In the canon, Grand Admiral Thrawn figures it out, but that's also because A) he's one of the most brilliant minds the galaxy has ever seen and B) he had occasion to conduct missions with both Anakin and Darth Vader and picked up on a number of similarities. In particular he recognizes a combat move that Vader keeps doing in his TIE. Same goes for all the other characters that knew the connection (Yoda, Bail, Tarkin, Darth Maul), they were all people that interacted with Anakin AND Vader. So it wouldn't be a case of just some records of it laying around.
It's also canon that Thrawn also pieces together that Vader is Anakin, and given the dance around his live action introduction I could see a reference being made. Not entirely sure how the timeline matches up, but I think it would?
Maul is possibly/probably still around at this point too
Ewans back is gonna be sore if he has to carry the series like he did in the first two episodes. Plenty of good but wtf is everyone getting a star wars cameos regardless of if you can act? Did we really need Flea as a bounty hunter? I'm cheering for obi wan to kill the third sister simply because her acting is cringey.
Loved the bit of him chasing Leia and recognizing padme in her. Those are the moments that can make this show special.

Yeah, as others have commented, Reva is a great character in terms of her ambition and ruthlessness. I was also jarred out of the magic of the moment by the delivery of some of Ingram's lines. But Im sure she'll settle into the role and maybe just have a bit of a unique style through-out, which Im cool with.
Love the Inquisitors though. Ive been watching Rebels for a little while, where they are also featured prominently, and I think they're a perfect representation of the institutionalization of the dark side side of the force while the Sith are in power. Clearly the emperor wants to have more than one force sensitive in his employ. But the numbers are kept in check by the back stabbing, in-fighting, and perpetual power struggle to gain more favor. Texbook Sith philosophy.
Yeah I guess my issue with the third sister is more the way she acts I like more nuanced baddies like dooku, Vader, maul who didn't need to say much for you to know they were bad asses. When she was screaming at them as the flew off it felt a bit fake/too much to be a serious baddie but that's more my personal taste
But you also see the other inquisitors chide her for exactly that. Fingers crossed we get some back story that enable us to view her with some nuance -- the shows have been pretty good at supplying that as needed
This needs to be emphasized - FLEA! My only gripe about his appearance is that 1) it doesn't look like he even went through wardrobe, and 2) he didn't get to team up with Anthony like they did in The Chase.

I am a longtime Star Wars nerd. Own all the movies (yes, even those two, on VHS, one pirated by my dad in 1984)
I grew up reading many of the book series (don't get me started on Vector Prime; only time I've ever purposefully defenestrated a book), and even a few standalones, but up until yesterday, I never watched a full episode of any of the live action or animated tv shows. Maybe because the timelines of my childhood got erased, maybe because the storylines weren't anything I was interested in, maybe it was because I don't have cable and don't pay for streaming services other than Netflix and a few others.
Obi-Wan returned a lot of the same feelings I had when my dad first showed me A New Hope back in the early 90s. Third Sister felt like a young pure Sith. Ruthless. Cunning. Machiavellian. Impulsive.
I loved the return of Bail and his interactions with Leia. Cultivating in her the sense of selfless leadership she will soon display, as well as her impish qualities that made us all fall in love with her back in the original trilogy.
Also, savage baby Leia. That interaction with her cousin...haven't seen a burn like that since Mustafar
As a lifelong Star Wars nerd...you are doing yourself a considerable disservice if you don't find a way to watch The Mandalorian in full.
While I really liked the Mandalorian, especially the first season, and without a doubt deserves a watch, I would argue that The Clone Wars animated series (the cannon 3d one) is more worth watching first. While it is obviously a kids show at times it did so much to help the story of the prequels, not to mention it is pulled from pretty heavily in a lot of the live action shows. Also, it could be surprisingly violent and mature at times for being a show that was largely aired on cartoon network.

I've seen bits and pieces from every show, so I am aware of what is going on in those series...Grogu, Ezra, Fennec Shand, Ahsoka (both versions), the final duel between Obi-Wan and Maul. I just haven't seen the series' as a whole.
Rebels and clone wars are true pieces of art. If you love lore they are both well worth the time. Season 7 of clone wars is better than most movies and rebels will have you weak and in tears by the end.
Great thing about an extended birthday weekend...Binge watched Mando (along with Stranger Things and Obi-Wan). Just finished The Jedi.

The VT and the 7 show up again in the very next scene when Obi-Wan and Leia are down in the alley, but separated out over two different buildings. As much as I wish it was a little shout out to us, it's more than likely just a design element that was used without too much thought.

It is really weird that they used a younger actress, Vivien Lyra Blair, who is still 9 for a few more days, to play a 10 year old Leia. She is an incredible actress for her age. Usually you see someone a few years older playing a younger role.
I have enjoyed the show so far. I am hopeful to build out Reva as a character. I have seen theories that she was one of the younglings they show trying to escape during the cold open Order 66 sequence.
I'm not as up in lore but for those who haven't dug into it the grand inquisitor was a temple gaurd and one of the best at that for the Jedi order. He is or was supposedly one of the best with a saber

She is only 9. She has been acting for awhile though (She played the daughter in Bird Box a couple years ago)

Pretty good first two eps, but have a couple of issues. How tf does this random chick know who Leia is, and Anakin is Vader, but Obi-Wan can't even figure out Vader is still alive?? Ewan is carrying the show. And idk why Disney feels the need to balance out every interesting plot point with a cringey unnecessary scene.
Also why does little Leia who is supposed to be smart, have the iq of a plant when it comes to being chased by bounty hunters but still deciding to run away from the person who freed her. I liked what they did with her character up until that.
She doesn't know who Leia really is. She only knows that Leia is the daughter of the man that Anakin and Obi-wan worked with in Episode III (because Vader/Anakin knows him).
I mean she sees the bounty hunters with Obi-Wan's face on the pucks. That might be enough to make me suspicious enough not to trust the guy -- she even says so herself
She doesn't know who Leia is. She figured out in the records that Obi-Wan and Bail Organa had a close relationship, and deduced (correctly) that OB would come out of hiding to help his old friend if she kidnapped his kid.
Only Obi, Yoda, the Organas, and Uncle Owen and Beru know that Anakin has kids.
Yeah but how would she know specifically that he would go if Leia is just some relatively insignificant girl.
Because she knew that Bail and Obi-Wan were boys going back to the Clone Wars, and that if she could kidnap Bail's daughter (because that's all she thinks Leia is)...then a very likely scenario is that Bail reaches out to his longtime friend and also Jedi Master to help get her back.
If she knew who Leia really was, she would just have her kidnapped and turned over directly to Vader. But she doesn't. She even says specifically she chose Leia because of the records she found in the archives about the connection between the two men. After Order 66 and the Jedi Purge, is there really anyone left alive other than Yoda that Obi-Wan would have a connection to besides Bail? She calculated on it drawing him out because of their friendship, not because she thinks Leia is more important
Taking a step back from the series for a second, I just want to say I'm happy that Hayden Christensen is getting another shot as Anakin/Vader. Seeing him in the leadup hype for the series, you can just tell he's happy to be back and working in this world, and with some really good writing right now, it really could push things in the right direction for him. Always felt like he got a lot of unnecessary hate for the prequels that simply came down to bad writing, so this could be a great chance at redemption.
And if it works, I would absolutely love to see more Vader, at least the kind of overpowering Vader we saw at the end of Rogue One.
Agreed. I didn't come away with any "hate" for him from the prequels because the scripts just were not very good. They even managed to make Natalie Portman look silly and stilted, and she's a boss.
And to your last point, yes! I hope to see Vader just wrecking some shit. I'd love for a scene of him in his TIE Defender. I think this series has a great opportunity to show him at the peak of his power, but also give small glimpses to further reinforce his ultimate redemption in the original trilogy.
That third episode. We finally got what we wanted between Vader and Obi-Wan. Wonder if we'll see more interactions between them, hope so...Vader def had that Rogue One vibe to him. Pretty fun watch.

He did look pretty dope. But at the end of the fight, I'm like "why didn't he just use the Force to pull Obi-Wan's body to him"? He can clearly see him thru the fire and its not like that droid is moving fast carrying him off.
Agreed, thought it was weird when Vader ceased the fire to capture Obi, but couldn't when the explosion happened. Minor things but I enjoyed it for what it was.
That whole scene was poorly directed with what we know about Vader's powers, followed shortly thereafter by Third Sister essentially teleporting herself to the end of the secret tunnel to capture Leia. Crappy, lazy storytelling. You can tell that Filoni isn't running this show.
Third episode was just ... ew. The whole fight scene with Vader was gross to me. They made Obi-Wan a little bitch. There better be a redemption arc where he learns to fight like his old self again, because that was borderline ridiculous.
Also how did not only the rebel girl and the inquisitor miss each other in the tunnel, but the inquisitor was able to somehow pass Leia in the tunnel and get there first? Unless she somehow knows exactly where it leads. Maybe the same intuition which led her to walk up to the exact house they were hiding in?
When I saw the flashback to Operation: Knightfall/Order 66, I could only think...

I am a little underwhelmed. The reunion was really one sided and there was minimal tension for me because Obi-Wan has plot armor and he obviously wasn't going to die here!!!
It will be really interesting for me to see how this all resolves and ends up with Obi-Wan back on Tattooine looking over Luke/Owen/Beru as the series started.
Reva somehow beating Leia to the end of the tunnel doesn't do it for me either.

This show was never going to be perfect. It's run by Disney and because of that's it's going to be full of fan service. Not like we can't expect more from them, but I'm not shocked that Obi Wan has plot armor and the other issues. As long as Reva's story gets more explanation (I like the theory French mentioned about her being a youngling at the Jedi temple during Order 66. If she's about 20 then that checks out), then I think the actress is killing it.
But, I'm glad they're explaining a couple gaps between the trilogies (e.g. how Leia knows Obi Wan, but Luke only knows him as Ben). Also, Hayden Christensen's physical presence as Darth Vader has been on point. He feels just as intense and menacing as the first time we all saw Vader in A New Hope
The wife and I got caught up yesterday and this is exceeding what little expectations I had. Ep3 was very well done from start to finish IMO. Hayden Christensen in the Vader armor is both terrifying and awesome at the same time. When he came through the mining camp snapping necks my jaw dropped and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It felt very similar to watching Ledger's Joker in just how captivating yet horrifying Vader has been every time he's on screen.
At the end of the day it's good Star Wars and Ewan is killing it so I'm happy with it.
Solid episode glad to learn and see the Jedi being kept in the base. Was hoping to see a significant one but the youngling was a hot dam moment for me. Loved seeing Kenobi remembering and or reconnecting with the force throughout the episode

I don't know what I laughed harder at; Tala giving out directions to Obi-Wan with an Imperial officer literally sitting next to her and not doing anything about it or just the overall level of shit security that apparently all Imperial bases have.
At some point you'd think they'd stop making the doors default to closed when their control panel gets blasted but thats just me.

There are a few plot holes that are tough to overlook while watching this show. Her openly giving instructions to Obi-Wan while the rest of the room minds their own business was pretty bad, to be honest. Then the sequence in the flooding hallway when Obi-Wan somehow makes it through the door without a drop of water making it through was suspect as well. And then the speeders at the end flying deep inside the cargo bay/loading dock to light shit up and then in the next scene somehow being outside again.
I'm not saying that its necessarily bad, but these little things add up, and distract you from an otherwise decent story. Some of the Vader dialogue lines are pretty bad as well, but considering that's how they've written him since the prequels, maybe being ineloquent is a character trait?
Also, they didn't launch any TIE Fighters in pursuit at all? They just kind of all stopped and watched everyone leave

As for the showrunner, the whole franchise has been a bit of a mess since Kennedy took over. Saw a good video over the weekend that did a good job of explaining that, under her watch, they've actually cheapened the overall lore by skipping over key character development in order to push an agenda to solve a problem that history shows wasn't exactly there in the sci-fi genre.
You know, if you dislike strong women in sci-fi, you can just say that instead of hiding behind a video.

Because if you watched it you'd know that it was actually vouching for actual strong female lead characters and accusing Star Wars of basically using the claim of having a strong female lead to wipe out criticisms over legitimate plot holes and bad storylines. And that Kennedy claiming the strong female lead is something that's never existed before spits in the face of those that came before like Ripley in Alien, Sarah Connor in Terminator, and hell, even Leia in Star Wars. Strong female leads are absolutely a good thing to have and something to be celebrated but thinking you're breaking new ground in the 2010s by writing one in is just not at all accurate, especially in sci-fi. Some of the absolute best movies over the last 50 years are powered by them.

I knew the title of that video could potentially get that kind of reaction, so I tried to head that off with the description (as an aside, I friggen loathe these stupid clickbait cover images that content creators use on YT). I was just making sure that my interpretation of the video itself wasn't completely sideways from how you viewed it.
The video is the complete opposite of that dude. It was pointing out that the excuse that "people don't like strong female characters" falls completely flat, in that Sci Fi has a tradition of strong female characters that have been embraced by fans and are considered to be some of the most iconic characters of all time, let alone female characters.
Ripley, Sarah Connor, Leia, Trinity, et all.
To further what Alum said, The Third Sister was tampering with the flying discman droid during the interrogation with Leia and had evil red lights on as the camera zoomed in on it at (or near) the end of the episode. A fairly good backup plan. However, what sits wrong with me is it seems like the tracker was plan A, but Leia was about to be put in that weird amber stuff like the other Jedi were so the discman droid tracker doesn't really work.
There's also the question I have about all the Jedi in Base/fortress/maybe Sith Temple. Is the amber stuff a frozen in Carbonite situation or are all the Jedi dead?
I thought the process Leia was almost subjected to was more like the interrogation droids we see elsewhere in canon, not the amber stuff. The fact obi wan called it a tomb implied they were dead. If that amber stuff is elsewhere in canon shows, I'm not familiar with it
The sith carbon freezing living jedi would single handedly be the dumbest thing they could possibly do. Otherwise Obiwan could free them all and restart the jedi order, doubt he mentally would want to after seeing it fail but one would assume theyre all dead.

Man, RIP to Wade. After all that time we spent with him and all that character development we witnessed, his death hit me straight in the feels. They really fleshed out his character and I hated seeing him exit the Star Wars universe 😔

I enjoyed this episode. The shot with Obi Wan lightsabering the stormtroopers in the dark put a big smile on my face. Sure there were some questionable narrative choices but the writing was still much better than the hot mess of head scratchers and convenient plot devices that is Return of the Jedi.
That scene was fantastic seeing him dissapear into the darkness was almost as good as in Rogue one when vader enters the dark tunnel.

Amazing how they've gone from the best sharpshooters in the galaxy per the early stages of A New Hope to effectively Bantha Fodder that you bring out whenever you need your hero to come out of a tense situation unscathed.
And the weird thing is the current timeline of this show is pre A New Hope
I believe that has something to do with them going up against the Force-adept, versus the not Force-adept.
I think this series is suffering from the same problems that Book of Boba Fett suffered from... not great writing.
The effects and acting have been pretty great, but a lot of the story choices feel like they needed a bit more time in the oven. They aren't necessarily bad, but it all feels sloppy or maybe rushed. It feels more like a roleplaying session that it does like quality storytelling.
I think they also suffer a little bit because of how good the Mandalorian has been, so in comparison both seem not quite as good. The bar was set pretty high IMHO.
I just don't really like what they've done with Obi-Wan, I can get over some of the writing issues. In the prequels, Obi-Wan was confident, quick witted, smart, and a powerful jedi. Here he seems lost, weak and a shell of his old self.
Watching him be weak and confused is not fun, but I think it makes complete sense. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, he's spent the last 20 years as part of an order that has been wiped out, serving a republic that became an evil empire, and his best friend and apprentice went full heel and became a monster, so I'm very ok with it.
I'm hoping that over the next two episodes he gets some renewed strength and purpose and you see him settle into his role as protector of Luke on Tatooine.
Standard Disney 6-episode flow says he will overcome his issues in the next episode (probably by speaking with Qui Gon), and then face whatever he has to beat in the final one. Same flow as F&WS, Loki, Moon Knight, etc.
I feel like every main character Jedi goes through some existential crisis at some point. Yoda in the OG trilogy, Luke in the new trilogy, now obiwan. It's a commonly used trope.
I mean, most people would say Anakin goes through quite a crisis in the prequels. ;)
We are gonna find out at the end that Obi Wan is just blitzed as shit off the death sticks his own daughter gave him in episode 1 and this whole show is just him tripping balls.

So while I generally stay away from star wars stuff because well most of it is terrible, I started watching this and I just couldn't get past the light sabers. They did so much work to define how Jedi would use them for the prequels and here they look worse than the first movie. Ewan trained for that! And now he fight with it like it's a dull broad sword. I came for awesome light sabers work and I am so disappointed.

Technically the always bounced of armor if the armor was made with beskar or cortosis. Stormtroopers did not have that armor.
Okay, so I have a hot take, but isn't this why people watch Star Wars? It's supposed to be cheap fun where you're not too invested in the characters, and don't need to be paying attention to every little detaill. It's pretty straight forward good vs evil.
When I think of Star Wars, I'm just looking to have fun and not over analyze anything. It's not Game of Thrones, which is both an emotional and intellectual roller coaster, or West World which is a complete and total mindfuck, it's just fun.

On one hand I agree with you. On the other, there is about 50 years worth of established lore within the Star Wars universe that you should generally stay within while making these movies and shows and it's worth criticizing Disney when they don't. When even Mark Hamill, a guy who basically is Star Wars, struggles to hide his dissatisfaction with the most recent movies, there's definitely a bit of a problem there.
I'm a diehard fan, even with the 50 years of lore, I still enjoy the series, because it is Star Wars. I don't have any wants going into any of these shows other than I want Star Wars.
I'm with you in that Star Wars excels when it's just fun, and you don't have to think on it too hard. I don't need this show to be Bettter Call Saul or Stranger Things.
But what I do need...is for a lightsaber to freaking wreck stuff! Because that's what a lightsaber does. And that's fun! Watching an all time Jedi Master get knocked around for 66% of a limited series run isn't the most entertaining thing.
I'll use the game Jedi: Fallen Order as a great example. Know why that game is so fun? Because you get to destroy Stormtroopers with Force Pull and a lightsaber all day. You "feel" like a Jedi. And the story was better than what Obi-Wan has given us to this point to be honest
I saw an interesting thing somewhere online (not sure where but I'll dig, reddit?) that the general plot of each episode so far has mirrored the number of each movie episode. First episode is harsh reality of Tattooine and having to adjust outside of that, second episode is kidnapped princess and an underworld, third episode is faceoff between Obi-Wan and Anakin featuring fire, fourth is obi wan breaking and entering into an empire "impregnable fortress" and leaving with a tracker. Here's the guess that the fifth episode will be imperial attack on the nascent rebelling a la Hoth, and that the sixth episode will be another faceoff between Obi-Wan and Vader where Obi-Wan tries to redeem him but fails (with that being obvious foreshadowing of Luke's success in Return of the Jedi)
Still no clue about Reva's backstory and no foreshadowing of a Grand Inquisitor return (but it has to be coming, right?)

Wow, I honestly didn't think they had it in them, but this episode makes a lot of other things make a good deal more sense. And probably provides us some of the best Anakin/Vader beats Star Wars has (ever?) seen on screen.
The use of the scene on coruscant with the live story was fucking amazing. Vader in all his glory is freaking amazing and one of the reasons I'm here. This episode was brilliant head to toe and obi wan using reva to get to Vader was peak obi wan.
Was Vader's line to her, do you think I didn't notice you or was it that he knew who she was?
My interpretation was that Vader was telling her she was naive for thinking she could hide her hate from him. Even perhaps as far as using her hatred for him as a way to unearth obi-wan
He said "Did you think I didn't see?" Or something to that effect. I took it more as did she actually think he couldn't sense her feelings of hatred and revenge towards him. The reveal of the Grand Inquisitor being alive drove that home. It was all part of the plan.
He knew she wanted to use Obi Wan to get to him, and he used that against her because he wanted Obi Wan and wasn't worried about her even a little bit.
It was a really good episode. Lots of questions answered. I am wondering what will happen with Luke next week.

You know, that hanger fight really didn't make much sense for either side. But Vader was fucking badass. That's all that matters.
Facts it made no sense, but still a good episode though.
The world's lamest villain became a little less lame, but still not interesting enough to keep in the show. Didn't like how she learned about Luke, seems like she's stumbled her way into knowing everything about everything in the show, and always having the right plan, then somehow also being good at the end (despite doing unforgivable things the entire season) bcuz she's a girlboss 😎.
Overall I did like the episode though it was well done. Just wish the plot made a bit more sense

Thought the ending of this series was pretty well done. I had my doubts after episode 4 about all the heavy lifting required to get it across the line but I'll be darned if it didn't do all the heavy lifting and more. Hit the right emotional tone for me and was still fun. Knowing some characters had plot armor lessened some of the tension but seeing how it resolved itself was still satisfying.
Not the biggest fan of reva as a character but at least they did flesh out her character and give her development and growth.
Some real "Twilight Of The Apprentice" vibes (from end of Rebels S2) in this episode but there's a fun twist with the inversion of the role of the former apprentice. Loved that

Just a great scene. The visuals, the sound (with the labored breathing and Hayden's voice mixing with JEJ)...the actual weight of his acceptance of what he has become. Ewan killing it and reminding us that he IS Obi-Wan
Again, I did not think this show had it in it. But that scene will go down as one of my favorite ever in Star Wars. Also reinforces that whole "Darth Vader killed your father" thing too...

Qui Gon showing up seemed really underwhelming to me. I was excited for it but it seemed like they really just threw him in to say they did.
The whole "you did not kill him, I did" thing gave me chills.
We also wind up with really really neat symmetry with Obi Wan trying to redeem him and failing, Ahsoka trying to redeem him and failing, and then Luke finally finally succeeding at the very end
Agreed. Fantastic scene. I'm not sure it saves the entire series from some of its glaring holes, but it was good enough that I was glad I stayed to the end.
The mixed voices bit was just really well done. Probably my favorite part of the series.
This scene reminded me so much of when Ashoka tried to redeem him in the temple and realized he was truly gone. In real film it was so well done you could see obi wan was almost given new life realizing Anakin really was gone.
How come every time Palpatine shows up in live action he looks totally different every time lol. Not a complaint more of a chuckle.
Keep in mind this Palpatine is a good 10 years or more younger at least than the one we see in ESB.

Overall it needed a big finale and we got it epic duel with Vader and Kenobi and obi wan ends it with a flying maneuver that only he would try.
Loved the voice crackling when they spoke and seeing Hayden under the mask just flat out epic.
Loved him telling Leia about padme and Anakin that shit had me welling up big time.
Reva and the grand inquisitor both entered rough to me but by the end felt legit in their roles.
Overall ewan McGregor simply is real life Jesus Christ, he was born a gift to the nerds to play obi wan and every single time he delivers in tremendous fashion. Nobody else could play it as well as he does and that's why he simply will always be my personal favorite Jedi. He's the best blend of bad ass and human emotion all in one.
To me obi wan is truly one of the few true Jedis in terms.of swordsman, control and connection to the force, and compassion and selflessness. All other Jedi had strengths and weaknesses but to me Kenobi was as balanced as it gets unless youre a fine ass mandalorian queen that is.
Luke Skywalker is the greatest Jedi Knight of all time. He was the one who actually brought balance back to the force. And along the way he blew up a couple of Death Stars, destroyed the Empire, defeated Darth Vader in combat, watched the Emperor get tossed town a lightning shaft, and redeemed Anakin's unredeemable soul. Also he's not such a bad pilot and he used to bull's-eye womp rats in his T-16 back home.
He did have a good teacher back in his home town, though.

Honestly, that wasn't very good. The last Vader/Kenobi fight was pretty cool but that's about it. The rest of the series is just filled with too much plot contrivance, painfully bad dialogue, and many other short comings. It started out with some promise but it sputtered too much episode to episode. This would have been better off as a movie
Overall I thought the show was good. Ewan was awesome, young Leia was a cool surprise, had some fun moments and did a good job with Obi Wan's state of mind at that period.
However, I have one "Star Wars fan yells at cloud" complaint": If the baddest mofo in movie history guts you with a lightsaber you should die. You should not be up and at em hours later kidnapping a kid. They wanted to have the reveal where Vader was ahead of Reva the whole time and they also wanted to show her redeeming herself a little bit. That's fine, but they could've put 5 minutes of critical thought into how they did that so that it would make a little bit of sense. It just felt so dumb and lazy.
The underlying problem of the entire series.
Lazy writing and plot devices that completely fall apart once you critically examine them have absolutely become a staple of everything Star Wars related over the past 10 years, except for maybe the Mando series.

Revenge of the Sith is actually not a bad movie at all. But yes, still not that close to the other two. If i'm being very honest, I would probably choose to watch Rogue One over ESB on any given day.
Revenge of the Sith is definitely up there for me the duel between obiwan and anakin was god damn glorious in Imax and theatres alone.
I think that sometimes your age and when you got into Star Wars has a lot to do with which movies you love the most. A lot of kids grew up on the prequals, which most of us "older" Star Wars fans initially hated.
I think ROTJ was the first one I can remember seeing in the theater, as I was 6 or 7 years old, so I loved the Ewoks at that age, thought they were awesome. ROTJ was always my favorite growing up. Of course kids who were teenagers when ROTJ came out hated the Ewoks, thought they were stupid.
Who knows if the sequel trilogy will enjoy the same popularity in later years as the prequal trilogy (I doubt it). I think the Clone Wars series and subsequent series that expanded on the prequals did a lot to redeem those movies.
I do know I am very interested to see what Taika Waititi does with the new movies that are in development since he will be completely unencumbered by the Skywalker saga, and can do what he wants. IMO he is one of the most talented filmmakers out there today (can't wait for Love and Thunder)
I definitely agree on the age affecting the series you like, I'm a prequels homer since they were coming out when I was introduced to star wars so for me I love all the prequels. The originals are awesome but to me the prequels hold something special since they to me feel like my age groups series.
clone wars and rebels remain some of the best content ever done.
Waititi was on Colbert last night, and the guy is just an interesting person. I'm very excited to see what he does with SW moving forward.

Yeah, and I am hoping that he involves Dave Filoni in the production as well. That dude more or less saved Star Wars in a lot of peoples eyes.

I actually would rank Rogue One the best Star Wars movie. A complex movie that stands alone from the rest of the franchise and something you can watch on its own and appreciate it without needing to know the rest of the universe. What I like most is that all parties both win and lose in the end.
Yeah, it somehow does all the things we expect from a Star Wars movie better than any other Star Wars movie.
Dirty, beat up lived in universe - check
Archaic but also futuristic technology - check
Epic space battle - check
Epic ground battle with AT-ATs and Stormtroopers that can actually hit something they are aiming at - check
Droid with more personality than many of the human characters - check
Darth Vader wrecking an entire ship's worth of troops - check
The power of the Death Star - check
A plot and character motivations that actually make sense and result in believeable choices by said characters - check
And then they had to go and completely shit the bed with Solo. I wonder what that movie would have looked like if the original directors had finished it. Would it have been better? Who knows, but it would have been hard to be worse.
See I must be the minority I loved Solo, was it perfect no but it was a fun movie that I will gladly watch before many of the other movies.
yea Solo was my favorite of the new Star Wars movies. Had more of an Indiana Jones vibe than Star Wars.
me too, and it's largely because the big twist in ESB was already in the zeitgeist when i first saw it decades after release, so it was not really a twist at all! it' still very well done.
for me, the prequels look and feel super corny, even though the OT is kinda campy the PT just didnt age that well at all with the effects
I will say one thing for the prequals, they did have the best lightsaber action. Even with Obi-Wan, feels like they went back to more of what the action was like in the OT.
I loved that they threw in a "Hello there" when Obi-Wan meets Luke.
Can someone explain why Obi-Wan didn't just kill Vader? Obviously there is no star wars if that happens so I assume I just didn't pick up on the reason.
Also it is such an over used cheap trick in all movies where the beaten down old former hero is pathetic the entire time until the very end where they finally regain all of their strength and become more powerful than ever. I would have rather seen Obi-Wan outwit a clearly more powerful Vader who is still blinded by his hatred than have him go all Dragon Ball Z at the end. Lazy and predictable.
I assume it's because Jedi's aren't supposed to kill, but I'm just a casual Star Wars fan, so I'm not sure.
I understand in a way the complaint but we go into this show knowing certain characters have plot armor so its not a surprise that the duel ended in Kenobi simply walking away as Vader struggled after being struck the way he did. I personally thought Kenobi would in the end hear a voice from an old friend in Qui-gon who would talk him off from killing vader in the end but that didnt happen.
If I was to assume why he didnt finish him off I would believe Kenobi simply didnt want to kill who in is mind was still Anakin who we know he truly cared for. Even with Vader saying he killed Anakin I think Obi-wan still couldnt bring himself to do it and in a sense he simply felt the need to get back to defending the kids.
Then again, since he cut through his helmet and control box chest thingy, maybe he thought he had killed him, just like when he left him to die after the duel on Mustfar.
Just a thought.
If this was the case, wouldn't he want to actually watch to make sure he died this time, to prevent that mistake from happening again?
Because maybe he felt remorseful or grief over having just beaten someone who until this story began thought he had actually killed anakin on mustafar.
This was always going to be a tricky spot for the show as we knew there was a big duel at some point and somehow both would have to make it out of the duel becuase we all know how this story goes outside the show. I personally dont mind the way it ended Kenobi had defeated Vader and didnt feel the need to execute him which always was something Jedi tried to avoid doing.
To me the line that makes this explanation work is when Obi-wan criticised anakin for executing Dooku claiming its not the Jedi way. I'd imagine Kenobi questioned everything the Jedi were after the fall of the republic but he was always a very by the rules jedi.
It was a fun watch, not amazing, but exactly what I was looking for from Star Wars.
I really liked Vader's line where he said 'I killed Anakin' - In the OG movies, it always sat wrong with me (even as a 5 year old) that Obi-won cryptically told Luke that "Vader 'killed' his father." I think this line kinda made that line from ep 4/5 make sense.
I don't understand why Reva went to get Luke. Was her plan to bring him to Vader just like she did Leah?
How I read that is she wanted revenge on Anankin for order 66/killing all her friends. I think she said something like "I wanted justice for them" and at that point she had figured out at the end of part V that Luke was Anakins secret son. So by killing him she would take her revenge out on Vader. Just my thoughts, that is how I read it.
yes this was my thought too -- "oh i'm sorry mister vader i thought you LIKED it when younglings die woops did i go too far by killing your son?"
She wasn't trying to bring Leia to Vader. She had no idea Vader had kids until she found that holo with Bail mentioning them. She just happened to pick Anakin's secret kid to use as bait to draw out Obi-Wan...so she could kill Vader while he was "blinded" in his pursuit of his old master. He even says it "you're not bringing me to Vader, I'm bringing him to you."
Even she didn't realize the actual connection between Obi-Wan and Leia beyond "he will come help his friend from the Clone Wars"

So how did she know Luke was Vader's kid, and how did she know he was on tattooine?
I was watching most of this series while simeltaneously watching a 9month old who just learned how to crawl, so it's possible I missed a couple scenes.

In the 5th episode, she is on the ground after her battle with Vader and sees the hologram communication disk thingy that Obi-wan (or Haja) dropped. She crawls over to it and sees the garbled message.
On the planet they go to after rescuing Leia from the Inquisitor base.
Obi-Wan gets a hologram message from Bail Organa mentioning "If he found out about the kids" and "I'll head to Tatooine". Reva finds it laying on the ground after they escape and Vader stabs her and leaves her for dead.
Just wanted to acknowledge a juicy morsel I've come across today in reading alot of the thoughts on the show as a whole.
In the end Ashoka was able to only damage the left side of Vaders mask and Obi wan could only damage the right side. Both immediately became remorseful when seeing Anakin behind the mask even if he proclaimed he was vader still. In the end Luke was the one able to fully remove the mask and see Vader redeemed as anakin in the end its fitting as he was the one to bring balance to the force.
Just thought it was significant we got to see Kenobi get a glimpse of Anakin the same way Ashoka did in the jedi temple and to have them both behave and see that Vader really did kill Anakin in the same way being that they were both so close to Anakin.
yes! the symmetry/inversion between Obi Wan #6 and Twilight of the Apprentice (end of Rebels S2) is incredible and even more poignant when positioned against Anakin's redemption in RotJ. Big chills as it was happening

So I am now wondering if any of the characters from this series (Reva) show up in the Andor series that is coming at a later date (I think it is already confirmed Hayden Christensen will be in the Askoka series).
Since the Andor series will be following him in the run up to Rouge One, the timelines would work out.
Feels like the Grand Inquisitor will probably show up. Otherwise, it was pretty pointless to have the reveal that he was still alive just for him to show up for one line.
I suppose that could be related to the next Jedi: Fallen Order game as well though
The grand inquisitor had to be alive because he's alive in the Star Wars Rebels animated show which is set after OWK. There needed to be a reveal of him living or else the internet would be all wtf about it and any subsequent reveal in another series would have a feel of trying to retcon a continuity error via "somehow the grand inquisitor has returned"
I think there's a good chance we see O'Shea Jackson Jr's character in Andor, since Obi Wan basically told him to keep leading the rebellion
I am more excited for Andor than I am the Ashoka series, but that is basically because I never really watched all of the Clone Wars series (just know a lot of the canon from those series bc internet).
As others have mentioned Rouge One was one of the best Star Wars movies of all time, and I am pretty interested in where they go with that character. I also hope we get a lot of Alan Tudyk as K-2SO. This series has so much potential.
