ESPN article on Babcock and Beamer

Interesting read but I feel like the ACC staff for ESPN is terrible. Sorry if article has already been posted.

Yes, the fact that the ESPN staff has been terrible has been posted many, many times. It's quite alright.

Seriously though, it's annoying how they talk about Beamer. You'd think the guy had gone 5-7 and 4-8 his last 2 years instead of 7-6 and 8-5. I'm all for making sure coaches don't hang around longer than they should, and so is Beamer, but he isn't even remotely close to being anywhere near a seat that is even slightly warm.

I agree, espn is always sturring the pot about coaching changes, especially when it deals with historic coaches like Beamer. They live for drama because it sells.

Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hy!
Tech, Tech, VPI

YES, over last 10 years name your FB programs consistently winning 10+ games. Uh, I Think VT would be part of that list. Yes as I finished article, all I could think of was WHY WHY did I waste my time!

Stop it with the Negative Waves!

Clearly the author does not have her finger on the pulse of the VT community at all. I haven't seen any momentum for a "fire Beamer" movement except from maybe extremist idiot fringes.

It was a catch

"I've done no succession planning for Frank Beamer at this time," Babcock told reporters. "I'd like to be on the job a lot longer than that. ... Pressure? Absolutely there's pressure any time you replace a Hall of Fame, legendary coach, you'd feel pressure, too. But I hope he coaches for a long time, wins a lot of games. In many facets, he's the brand of Virginia Tech athletics. I'm much more interested in finding out what I can do to support coach Beamer than I am at this point of eventually having to replace him whenever that time may be. He's a legend, he's a Hall of Famer, and I can learn a lot from him.

End.of.story.

Just be thankful that it wasn't written by Heather Dinich. The fact that this article was written by their 'GOOD' ACC blogger is worth mentioning.

Hey! I report on the conference the way it is. Just because the Hokies haven't been particularly good recently doesn't mean I'm not good at my job.

And since Florida State is now officially back (Finally!! I called it YEARS ago), I don't see that changing any time soon.

FB is that you?

Me? FB definitely isn't my initials, unless that's not what you were talking about.

Actually the article is fairly accurate and correct. Besides the saying Beamer is on the hot seat. That's not true, it's just heating up ever so slightly. But Babcock's contract ends in 2020 I believe so he will face Beamer questions sometime before the end of 2016. That and probably again if he sticks around to 2020 when Beamer is going to probably be on the verge of retiring.

The thing the article gets wrong is the hyperbole of how much Beamer's job is in jeopardy after the past two seasons alone, which if you talk to some fans seems like a somewhat decent assumption.
