Yeaaahh. There's no "v" sound in Japanese. It gets transliterated to a "b". When I lived there for a summer, I was from "Bah Jee Nee Ah".
I can see dropping the "oo" from "roo". You often kind of swallow some of the vowel sounds depending on the words.
