This is very relevant to Tech as signing day quickly approaches. I am not posting this because I want to ignite an argument on over-signing and grayshirts. Just that these issues probably currently impact the Nnadi and Javon Harrison decisions to some degree and whether they fax their signatures to Blacksburg.

The cynical side of me thinks that F$U wants Javon Harrison simply to deny his services to VT. Then I read this and realize that my cynical side is probably right.

VTCC '86 Delta Co., Peru Hokie, Former Naval Aviator, Former FBISA, Forever married to my VT87 girl. Go VT!

FYI vt will have guys that will have to prep and a couple gray shirts as well so we would still have the room for Mckenzie, Ford, Minor, and nnadi.

Yep. This is just a confusing matter that a lot of people don't understand and I thought people could benefit from reading it . Like the author says, there is nothing inherently bad about gray shirting as long as it is done morally and for the right reasons. Tech has always used the practice the correct way.

One question I've always had is why not offer someone that we know won't qualify this cycle and have to prep like a Jay Payton? Is there a harm in doing so when both parties know that he will have to prep? It gives the prospect a goal during their prep year and it gives the school something similar to a greyshirt.

Am I missing something? Is it more complicated than this?

Jay Payton is prepping, right? He's at some Atlanta Athletics facility, which I think is a new cross between a prep school and a gym/training program. I'm pretty sure he was a HS senior a year ago and didn't have the grades to garner any offers.

But his situation is unusual, I've never seen one like it.
