This goes to show you that regardless of how excited we get on NSD and regardless of stars, it is still a crap shoot for how these kids will translate into the college game. Of the 22 signed schollies only 11 contributed significantly in a starting role and several even at different positions. Here is to hoping we improve our evaluations for thier true positions and utilize their talents accordingly.

It is significant, though that the two stars who 'shone the brightest' were 4-stars, and another 4-star owns our passing records. There is a lot more variation in how the 3-stars panned out - some were contributers and multi-year starters but never reached the heights of those 4-stars.

Bitter, yes, technically VT was recruiting LT to be a TE at some point; every one was. But he never played TE in HS.. How can someone "switch" to QB when they've been playing it in HS, and then play it in college?

Ha, yeah you're probably right. I guess a better high-level question is this: is it fair to judge a class on Wins/Losses, or should it be based on on-field contributors? I'm not stumping for one or the other, but I am interested in others' opinions.

There are many ways to judge a class. How many ended up as starters, how many wins their squads had while they were there, how many made it to the NFL, etc. I think the weakest way is by 'contributers' because you have to field a team, and the players come from somewhere. You need to assess HOW they contributed.

When we offered Nubian Peak, my initial reaction was that we wasted a scholarship. Looks like we gambled with that one and lost.
I think he was offered on the strength of his name alone. Had nothing to do with on field performance.
I'm still waiting out for us to come across the next Leon Sandcastle or Jerry Ricecake!

It's all semantics. He was recruited as a tight end and that's what he wanted to play. Then he was asked to play QB which he did.
Just out of curiosity, how many wins did this class get, and how does that compare to other classes over a 5-year period?
I can tell you that they had the most losses for a VT class for a while...

JR Collins' first name is Lanford? How did I not know this?
I recall this from back in the day but more recently I thought they were two different people and the other guy just disappeared.
