7 minutes into primetime Thursday night coastal chaos, 1 fumble, 2 interceptions, 1 pick six, 1 missed point after

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I really hope we beat both of these teams, for all our sakes.

Trying to watch this game to get and idea on techs odds later this season and so far both teams are really sloppy.
So far gt look like they're getting good push on the o line but that's about it so far
UVA look like a one man show keton Thompson and outside that they look a mess

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Pick #2 for Armstrong just a bad throw but a great catch by the db.

Jeff Sims now is out with injury for GT

Suckfest continues with a missed field goal by UVA

Back to back fumbles in the 3rd quarter.

Commentators wanting to chug gallons of waffle house syrup.

And most importantly the play of the day.
Kneel on your own 3 yard line on a kick off return WITHOUT SIGNALLING THE FAIR CATCH.
Them boys in who-ville got them some big brains.

Also UVA gotta stop eating so many butter fingers too on the sidelines.

My man bailing us mobile guys out!

Might recommend not embedding kumahs stuff though he tends to use alot of language not suited for some places fyi

We have a double doink! UVA misses the easy field goal.

Techs offense is absolute garbage but UVA is not much better

Man, both of these teams are so bad it's hard to imagine them beating anyone else but us.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

On the flip side, I could see us beating either or both of these teams.

GT's backup quarterback makes every shitty quarterback we've had look like Joe Montana.

Yep. I took GT (-3) because
a) LOLUVa sucks
b) I figured Sims would be just enough to put the cavs away by a TD 🤦‍♂️

Apparently we play GT twice this season. On one of GT possessions, the announcers said the something about the pressure coming from Virginia Tech.

Thought I heard that as well.

He also called them west virginia early in the second quarter.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I was just coming here to edit my post to add that. I am watching today for lack of anything else/better on ...
Did he do it twice? I heard it in the 1st.

So loluva no longer has a football team?

On field performance indicates this is true.

True. I was originally going to say that uva no longer exists, but I thought lack of football team was more appropriate..

Maybe all of those kids on the field yesterday were dressed up for early Halloween...

Honestly the commentary was all kinds of messed up the whole game between the number of times one of them said virginia tech and west virginia it was a mess. I lost track between the horrid product on the field the commentary was almost white noise.

Backup GT QB runs out of bounds down to end the game instead of chucking up the Hail Mary.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

For two sUpErIoR aCaDeMiC schools there was whole lot of big brain going on in that game

I guess he thought there was a little time left. But was that a bigger brain fart than kneeling on the 3?

You gotta go into that play knowing there are 6 seconds left in the ballgame and then realize more than 6 seconds have gone by before casually stepping out of bounds.

On top of that happening this was his response:

Things have not been pretty in Blacksburg, but at least we're still playing in the fourth quarter.

Clemson vs Syracuse. Close game, but I Was just thinking Syracuse probably wasn't going to be able keep this up all game.

Clemson has the ball 1st and goal from the 3. Then Syracuse takes back a fumble recovery for 6 points to take the lead. So they've got that going for them!

I would have never guessed that all Syracuse needed to jumpstart the program was a couple remnants from bronco's staff.

Edit: not that Anae has anything to do with a scoop and score. I'm just surprised the orange has managed to stay undefeated.

Amazing what a creative offensive mind can do for a program/team. Syracuse doesn't have a ton of talent, yet they look like a legit contender on offense. Defensively, they look OK, but the fact that the offense is grinding out first downs, controlling the clock and allowing the defense to rest is a game changer.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Wow. 3rd TO for Clemson. Syracuse is looking like the MUCH better team today.

LOL. And there is TO #4.

EDIT: Wow. Dabo just benched DJ Uiagalelei.

Jumped on here to ask this exact question - wanted to know if DJ was injured or benched. Cuse aint taking shit from nobody today.

Never mind... the DT gave up on the play and then a mind-numbingly dumb penalty to extend the Clemson drive.

On one hand this was a boneheaded play... On the other hand the QB didn't let up at all after he stepped out of bounds, so as a RF I guess I can see why he gave the bump - maybe he didn't know exactly where they were on the field?

Is coronavirus over yet?

yeah... as the defender you basically just have run him out but not put your hands on him.

well that was a briefly entertaining thought of clemson losing at home

The ACC refs weren't going to let that happen.

Not sure Syracuse would've held on, but getting a borderline late hit called on them, and then a blatant late hit not getting called on Clemson really turned the game in Clemson's favor.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Some real questionable home cooking in the second half.. 8 penalties on cuse 🤔

Seen this movie too many times to be surprised. Those call/no calls on back to back drives were absolutely awful in terms of completely reshaping that game. Call for Clemson that was extremely close/questionable on 3rd and 25, then far more blatantly out of bounds hit on Schrader goes uncalled on 3rd and 14.

Oh for sure, esp. those two. Im not surprised just disappointed I guess

VB born, class of '14

That was absolutely NOT PI on Syracuse there

Dino with Justin Fuente level clock management there

Shrader's luck ran out at the wrong time. You can't throw into zones all day.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Imagine a QB throwing into triple coverage

Why are the Clemson fans rushing the field????

(they always do that)

Duke pick-six on Miami's 7th turnover.

Why the hell is Clemson rushing the field?

Edit: Have been drinking most of the day already so I'm good.

They do it after every game including losses. It is just some Clemson weirdness.

Meanwhile... Duke is using Miami as a piñata

8 TOs. 8!!! That's insane.

We put the K in Kwality

We had 8 TO's against them in 2005, I believe. Brutal game.

Texas just got a gift from the refs. Punt never touched the Okie St. Guy.

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

Duke does not look nearly as winnable as it did heading into the year. That's looking like a loss right now. Still could be a win, but their offense is quite functional.

The only two games that appear remotely winnable are GT and UVA. I'm legitimately expecting only one more win this season. Anything beyond that will exceed my mid season expectations.

Elko & Co. are making all of the other Coastal coaching hires look pretty suspect right now....

That, or Elko should be sending a huge thank you to Cutcliffe for not botching the recruiting in his twilight ...

Cutcliffe's last three classes were all ranked outside the top 50... they had lost 13 straight conference games before Elko got there. That's pretty "botched" haha

Not compared to Fuente...

I know it's a message board, and it's fun to paint Fuente as a villain and act like he did everything wrong, but there's also reality....

Exactly. Fuente is probably a top 80-100 active coach in FBS. That just doesn't cut it at mid-high P5. And he was a bad fit for this region with a job of our expectations.

He made a lot of mistakes and some terrible judgements, but he's also a pretty competent head coach and offensive mind with at least baseline knowledge of how to run a program.

I'm really hoping Fuente gets back into coaching because I'm very curious how that looks for him. Will he take a job as OC somewhere? If so, how does he do? Does he hold out for another HC gig? If so, does he bring Cornelsen with him again?

I'm convinced that Fuente is not (yet?) a P5 level head coach. But I'm not certain exactly what the root cause of his failure at VT is. I'd love to see him get another shot someplace just to see how it goes. Will he demonstrate that he's actually a good coach or will he prove himself to be a fraud? I honestly have no idea.

Onward and upward

Cutcliffe actually developed his players unlike Fuente. He got the best out of his players. Fuente... Not so much...

Lol develop his players to what? Win 3 games a year?

Duke doesn't get enough players to win many games but they are better their senior year than their freshmen year. That typically wasn't the case with Fuente's players.

I mean again, if you're consistently not winning any games you're not getting better. If you've got a senior-laden team losing by 31 to Fuente's worst team, you probably haven't developed your players very well.

2019 wasn't that long ago.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

It's really easy to win when you don't have to tear down a previous culture, and you got players with buy in. Additionally, solid staff hires, and a bit of luck go a long way.

Just look at Fuente year 1. He was handed off a culture from Beamer, and NFL caliber players. Instant wins. It's when that culture started to make way for the new coach's persona is when things truly change. The 2018 season was the first one for Fuente where his persona took over the team. Transfers, bad results on the field, locker room cancers, which led to terrible recruiting.

Let's see Elko in year 3.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

Did Tennessee really play like they were supposed and have enough cushion to pull Hooker in the 2nd quarter????

Vols were up 52-7 at the half lol

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Hey too bad we didn't hire Will Healy huh?

I don't want to start a whole thread on it, but does anyone know who won the MBB scrimmage between VT and Liberty?

Go Hokies!

I heard this was a thing, but also haven't heard who won. I'd assume VT, but that's just based off of LU not having much of an offense besides their best player plus being somewhat undersized.

I absolutely love the entire game day experience Oregon has shown out today.

Watching the game and the whole crowd dancing and singing to "Shout"...I've not seen that before but it is so perfect, with that crowd and the Animal House connection.

And actually opening Gameday with the Duck, "I gave my love a cherry, that had no stone"...and then smashing the guitar. Just awesome.

But to mention Autzen is on the bucket list to watch a game at.

Showing out on the field too. Helps when UCLA guys decide to hurdle... Nothing? Like instead of running with the ball the guy just sprang high into the air over nobody lol

So Liberty destroyed BYU at home today and Duke dismantled Miami. SIGH. At this point, I just want us to finish with a win against LOLuva. Anything else is unexpected gravy.

VTCC '86 Delta Co., Peru Hokie, Former Naval Aviator, Former FBISA, Forever married to my VT87 girl. Go VT!

That was with LU's 3rd string QB too...finishing with < 6 wins would be sad but it seems almost definite at this point. Hopefully we can get at least 5 though.

To be fair Miami dismantled themselves with 8 turnovers. Not saying we beat Duke, but they had some damn good TO luck.

I just want VT to beat ANYONE at this point lol

State is very vulnerable without Leary, I give us at least a puncher's chance in that one. If we can't win either of the next two I'm very doubtful about our chances to get a third win this season

Wait a minute... what world am I living in where Tulane is the #25 team in the country???

uva - the taint of the ACC
Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

Oddly enough they'd probably be Alabama or LSU tier today if one of their athletic directors didn't purposely tank the program in the mid 1900's. They won a few SEC championships and were a dominant program in the 30's

ah yes. They got Julian Burruss'd

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Georgia southern beat ODU 😒

Not even halfway through the first, south carolina up 17 0 over Texas a&m... happy for Shane but lots of game to go

It's going to be so funny when A&M has to pay Jimbo $90 million dollars to go away.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Jimbo has the 2nd highest winning percentage in the AP poll era at A&M behind RC Slocum. He replaced the 3rd In Sumlin. He is winning at 8% more than their historic rate.

And he'll fired and then A&M will hire another coach and want them fired.

It's very entertaining and insane so I'm here for it.

Jimbo is recruiting really well, but he needs to modernize his offense and do a better job of developing QBs.

EDIT for a typo.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

If Jimbo was smart he would go hire Phil Longo away from UNC and relinquish play calling duties. But I think his ego is too big to ever give that up. Nor does he really have any incentive to do so.

Oh I agree that a big piece of the offense's problems is his own pride.

I don't agree regarding Longo though. There's a reason basically no defensive coordinator has looked good wherever he has been. Trying to score as quickly as possible is not always to the benefit of the team. And sometimes it blows up in his face if his play calling gets pass happy and they are stopped a couple of times quickly. Maybe it'd work out ok, but I think he's part of UNC's problem.

Why has no one mentioned Ole Miss getting steamrolled in Baton Rouge?

I, for one, was disappointed in my pick 6 selection. Didn't watch a single snap of that game to be honest. Had more interest in the UT-OSU and UCLA-Oregon games, along with the Xfinity Series race and baseball playoffs.

That being said...they got their asses handed to them. Any given Saturday or whatever, pretty fucking impressive that Tennessee was able to go into Baton Rouge and not so much as blink. Alabama at home last week to boot. That UGA game is as much watch as they make em.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Minnesota wins this week's award for best helmets

Shane Damn Beamer and the SC Cocks. Putting it to TX A&M. Holding their own in the SEC. Big win for young Coach Beamer.
But Gamecock crowd singing Enter Sandman? That ain't right

Incredibly impressive. Took over a program that won 6 games combined in '19 and '20 and has to play Georgia, Clemson, Florida, and Texas A&M EVERY year. Went 7-6 last year with a bowl win and is now 5-2 in year two. Love to see it for him.

The word has been that Shane wanted to blaze his own path. So far so good at one of the tougher jobs in the country.

Loserville hammered Pitt. Seriously.

We put the K in Kwality

VT didn't play, but it feels like they lost again. Pitt, Miami, ODU, WVU all losing in remarkable fashion. BC still looks terrible. All while Duke and Liberty looking like they'll be 7+ favorites.

The 2022 Hokies, sigh...

🦃 🦃 🦃

Would be surprised if it's only 7 at this point.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Holy ....

Weber State's long snapper was responsible for FOUR safeties yesterday by launching the ball out of the endzone. They ended up losing by 5.

That's as much on the coach as it is him. Someone else has to be able to get a ball back there, or a damn pooch punt or something. One is bad, two is the yips...and you left him in the there?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I guess most longsnappers are capable, but I'm just impressed by the fact that he longsnapped it nearly 30 yards lol

All in the first half as well to make matters worse.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

After the third, you think they would just give up on punting.

It would have been more efficient to snap the ball under center, run backwards, and bicycle kick it.

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."
