Here's to 25 times blasting it through the end zone on his kickoffs

That would require us to have 24 non-safety scores. I'm here for it. 120-0

Onward and upward

25 points on FGs + XPs.

That's a minimum score of 31 points. I'll take it.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but this "tradition" is getting tired IMO... Every game the announcers spot light the guy with the #25 and we have to hear why we give out that number every. single. game. and too many times that player plays average or worse. The best bit is when they player has been playing like trash and then makes one single good play, and the announcer pitches a tent in his pants and go crazy saying "and look who made the big tackle, of course it's the guy wearing #25!!!"... Like chill, you haven't seen him whiff on the previous 10 tackles? Frank would be proud lol.

This tradition been happening for every game like 4-5 years. No one outside of Hokie fans cares about it if we're being honest. And those who know about it don't need to be reminded every single game.

I would say keep it off the telecast, but when you aren't on national TV, I guess we don't have to worry about it as much lmao.

too many times that player plays average or worse

That's because most of our players (right now) are average or worse.

You'd love the tradition if #25 Wayne Ward's some dude on a kickoff return.

That is true about our players talent currently... but we know that's not happening soon. Either block in the back call or just trip over our own feet. But IF #25 made a tackle like that, but played like shit for rest of game, I could care less if the opponent got Wayne Ward'ed on one play

Honest question. Why do we care what people outside VT think of our traditions? Especially when it honors a Hokie legend and the mark he left on our program.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't care what people outside of VT, was more just speaking about our fan base only. Unless you just became a fan yesterday, we know why they do the #25. Good homage to Frank, but doesn't need to be brought up/repeated every single time... But again, that's just my $0.02... I think my main takeaway/point I was trying to make is I could go without hearing the announcers bring it up every single time. Beating a dead horse IMO.

This.

I don't care about any other team's traditions. They sing Rocky Top in Knoxville after every score, OK, but I don't care about it. At UVA and Alabama, the fraternities wear ties to the game, whatever. At PSU the jerseys are nameless, OK. None of these traditions mean anything to me because I have no emotional connection to them.

I do care about the lunch pail, the #25, Enter Sandman, the "Let's Go" chant, the free bacon, etc. I like being a Hokie and it doesn't matter if anyone outside cares.

The only other team's tradition I appreciate is Iowa's wave to the children's hospital. Respect

I DO also love the Purdue tradition of yelling "IU sucks" on EVERY SINGLE KICKOFF! Regardless of who they are playing that week! Gotta respect that level of animosity toward your state rival.

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

I cate about all those traditions. These traditions are what makes college football special. I love going to games and seeing all the different traditions, especially ones that mean something to the school like the #25.

If we want to get rid of a tradition then the maroon effect can go, we stole it anyways ao that's a great one to stop.

Let's retire AME for a bit. Lost its luster for a hot minute.

White effect should go first.

White is for road games. I said what I said.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I agree..... but, sometimes you get that perfect storm of a white effect and a rain game though....

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."

I just don't care that much, but again, that's why I said first maybe I am in the minority, and I'm cool with that. JMO

Honestly, if you don't care/dislike the tradition, why bother post in the thread? You could just skip over the thread and not participate....

I certainly could have passed on it. But I had some free time, and was curious if others had same sentiment. If not, no big deal... if so, would love to hear their opinions. Again, just posting my opinion on subject. Not everyone has to agree.

Respect. I upvoted your original to offset a downvote - otherwise I probably would have just left it alone.

While I still appreciate the tradition, I also think our current overall special teams play may not merit a #25 (similar to how they shelved the pail when the D didn't earn it).

Though I don't lose sleep on down/up votes, I appreciate that. My OP might have come across as disrespectful to Frank and what he's done for this university, but that wasn't my intention. If that's how it came across, then that's my bad.

Why are people downvoting an honest opinion? Others may not hold that opinion, but there is nothing nasty about it.

This was a manufactured tradition by Fuente to keep some semblance of nostalgia. We didn't have to do it. It was a nice gesture at the time. But it is kind of forced. It didn't grow organically like jumping to Enter Sandman, or the 3rd down Key Play, or the Lunchpail.

Pry didn't have to keep it either. But he did. He found the #25 to be part of VT's football identity, even if the other guy did it as a compliment. And if Pry is gonna ride with it, I'll ride with it.

Now bring back the Hokie Pokie. The yell is cool and all, but we're Hokies for fucks sake. I don't care if visiting fans laughed about it, fucking Buckeyes. We beat em in the Shoe, and we're one of a short list of programs to do so in the last 20 years.

I think we are only seeing this mentality (first heard for me) towards this tradition because, well, we suck. It was loved before and if things had worked out with Fuente then people would still love it I think. It's a cool tradition, just try to keep it separated in your mind from fuente 😉 Not directing this specifically at you gjpvt09, just a thought for those that may have soured on the newer tradition.

I am here for Hokie Pokey and "Stick It In" to be brought back

Nothing about enter sandman is organic anymore. It's no longer a tradition, it's a spectacle that should be ashamed of itself.

This coincides with my hot take that I'd rather the tv broadcast hardly acknowledge enter sandman rather than spotlight the hell out of it several times a year before we promptly shit the bed.

I thought about bringing that up too, but didn't want to burn this place to the ground after my #25 hot take lol

Maybe y'all forgot how these threads are supposed to go. Let me remind you:

25 PATs off of 13 defensive TDs and 12 Special Teams TDs!!

Sadly this season is not full of happy accidents. Lots of accidents for sure.

Would have been poetic to get the ball back and drive to set him up for a game winner.
