Not sure how many of you have heard of Rick Beato but he has a YT channel and breaks down many songs from the eyes of a producer and is really interesting. In this video he breaks down Metallica's Enter Sandman in a really cool way.
I graduated in 1992 before we ever had that tradition (or winning seasons), but I love what it has brought to our team and school to bring us together. From Football to Basketball and beyond. It has been my ringtone for years for the best people in my contact list (sorry mom) and a short soundtrack of what I wish for every sport in every season. I think it is interesting enough to share since I haven't seen it before.
Let's go HOKIES!

You have to realize that Virginia Tech football really made Metallica as a band. They weren't well know or well regarded until Virginia Tech chose enter sandman as the entrance for the football team. It really put them on thr map as musicians. They are now 9 time Grammy award winners all thanks to the exposer from Virginia Tech. Take enter sandman event, Frank Beamer himself help craft that song so that it matched with Virginia Tech core values. It sounded completely different prior to VTs adoption of it. They owe us everything and the least they could do is drive their tour bus that seems to always be in Roanoke to Blacksburg and play a few chors for the fans right before a thrusday night game. But so far they're too good for that and just do a video recording instead. Sad.
[never mind]
I'm assuming it took you a minute to realize this was satire. I was about half way through the paragraph before it clicked for me too. Don't feel bad
He needs a disclaimer like mine.
Normally I put a /s but I was pretty sure if you read long enough it gets way to obvious
Leg for this, well done.
real talk though, they came to Roanoke multiple times on tour over the years. Going 45 minutes up the road to Blacksburg isn't too much to ask. We may be priced out of that though
Leg for Rick Beato! Awesome channel for music nuts.
Exit light. . .
Beato, Pete Thorn, and That Pedal Show are the best three things on YouTube for guitarists.
Beato is awesome, Paul Davids has some fun videos for guitarists also.
Will have to check out Paul Davids. I have learned an absolute boatload from watching Pete Thorn's channel on how he dials in amps and pedals to get different tones. Different ways of approaching tone and pedal order, gain stacking, what EQ settings really do on amps, etc. His amps in the zone and tone secrets video series are fantastic, among others.
This was a great watch. I think I've learned more about how songs are made from watching that than in my previous 40 years of life.
Subscribed to his channel for years- love all his "what makes this song great?" and top 20 "whatever" (bass intros/drum solos, etc.) Learn a lot about music to enhance appreciation of songs I already like and introduce me to stuff I didn't know.
pfft... easy. jumping
Beato is great. His experience as a teacher, producer and musician really come through in his videos.
Yeah, I've been watching Rick for about 4 years now.
Another good one is polyphonic.
Yes - his video essays on songs and bands are really informative. His 3 part series on Zeppelin and his Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here projects are absolutely fantastic.
The whole album is a really good 🤘
This.
And - hot take incoming - Load and Reload are too. They inspired all that scruff rock stuff of the late 90s and early 2000s, while sounding more authentic than any of them. Staind? Days of the New? Puddle of Mudd? Others I'm can't think of right now? All those singers are trying (and failing) to sound the way Papa Het did on those 2 albums. I don't care who they pissed off with those albums, I'm a fan of rock and roll, and they count as that.
I like every album Metallica released after the black album. I can even tolerate St anger but also I will say for people to listen to the remastered version of Death Magnetic. They fix the awful mix from the original 👀
I watched some of Rick Beato instead of the condensed game this morning. Best decision I've made in awhile. I don't feel one bit guilty either..
This is a great example of working on all the parts individually, and putting it together to make the overall song as close to perfect as possible. (Much like we're hoping Pry can ultimately do with our football team.)
I love this dissection of it.
Just add Jumping.
Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed it.
It was freaking awesome watch Zac Brown Band play Enter Sandman last night in Oakland!!
