Fam for MBB y'all.
Mutts really balled out... Double-double, 16 points, 11 rebounds.
He also had 2 steals, 1 block, and 5 assist with zero, count 'em, ZERO turnovers!

I thought he arrived last year. Now he's fully moved in, hung some paintings on the wall, stocked the fridge, changed the locks, power washed the deck, and heading out to buy a zero turn riding mower.

Pedulla was great, but I don't think Coach Young will be real happy today. I think there was a little bit lacking in defensive intensity. Lehigh had a LOT of open looks. Credit them for moving the ball well, but the Hokies didn't compete on the ball at a level that translated to a title last year.

I don't think it is being a downer. But, it is a teachable moment. It is better to get their attention when you can offset it with the positive reinforcement of the win. They were pretty good on the ball, although Pedulla will struggle with bigger point guards that can go to the rack all season. They don't have a rim protector, so they will lose some battles against post up guys. They can improve, but those will be issues throughout the season. My bigger worry is on defensive rotations and back cuts. They were very lackidasical and not attentive for stretches (Basille was a repeat offender.) They will need to clean that up. Fortunately, the schedule isn't too tough before Dayton so they have some time to clean things up.

I noticed the same thing, and I think I posted in the game thread that Poteat lost his man underneath while hedging high multiple times, leaving someone wide open under the rim each time (on rewatch he gifted them about 6 points). Hopefully it's just getting used to a new team at game speed and gets worked out before the competition takes a step up!

that's what I thought at first but there is typically weak side help in the lane until the big can drop back. In the second half that was Maddox on at least one of them. Maddox was overmatched and it was an easy score but at least he was there. Obviously works a lot better if it is a 4/5. I remember Murphy getting stuck there a few times last year.

First time we've had a PG have a good game in the lane in a while. How many times did Bede and then Murphy drive into the lane only to get stuck in no man's land? I said when he committed that Pedulla could do some Seth Allen kinds of things...I'm sticking with that.

If Rice is what people make him out to be, or even just a solid role/bench player, this team is going to be VERY deep... and it's so nice to have other bigs where your tallest guy sits down and then the next tallest isn't 6'7"

I don't think this team is going to be as deep as a lot people are thinking it currently is. You usually have 1-2 players disappear from the rotation when conference play starts, and for me those players are currently Camden and Collins. Assuming the normal starting lineup is what we saw last night, that leaves us with Kidd, Poteat, and Rice (an unknown at this point) off the bench. Kidd and Poteat provide good size, shot-blocking, and perhaps rebounding but not much else right now. I have faith that Poteat and especially Kidd will continue to improve, and if Rice is able to contribute offensively then that will be great, but I can also see us being in for some bad times in games where Basile or Mutts get into foul trouble or the opponent has a skilled big man. Don't get me wrong -- I think we'll still win a lot of games, but we aren't deeper this year than last year.

Based on the little I've seen, I'm pretty optimistic. Seems we a lot of size, athleticism, and skills across 8 or 9 players. A lot of potential for upside growth with the youngsters Collins and Camden, and we haven't even seen Rice, yet. Don't want to get too optimistic too quick, but our hardwood Grant looks a whole lot better than our gridiron Grant, so far.

What I love about these first two wins is that we covered the spread. Not that I can bet on the games, thanks Virginia politics (not trying to CG because I don't even know/care which party did that). But it shows we are actually beating up on the weaker competition and not just squeaking by. In past years, I feel like we would get up by 15-20 in these type of games and then put in our deeper rotation/bench guys and the lead would dwindle. This year they have maintained and built on the lead.
Long winded way of saying, Go Hokies. Fam! I love CMY

Fam!

I like winning, fam.
Big fan of the W. Big fan. This offense is going to be fun to watch no matter who we play.
FAM FAM FAM FAM FAM FAM FUCK I FORGOT HOW GOOD THESE FEEL LETS GET IT FAM
Boys have looked solid through 2 games this week. FAM!
Fam. Getting a bad 3pt shooting night out of the way now is okay w me
We had a game where we shot ass from 3 pt range and still almost put up 80.
That historically hasn't happened for us.
40 points in the paint tonight plus Pedulla tying a career high is a nice combo.
Pedulla is gonna be a stud this year. Looks like put on a few pounds of muscle too. Kid plays fearless.
TV report was 10 lbs of muscle and he had a good number of points from driving.
Fam for MBB y'all.

Someone in the game thread said Pedulla had J-Rob vibes, and I have to echo that. He's gonna be very, very very good.
Cruisin' to a W. I'll take it FAM

That's a great gif.
As many wins as the football team! FAM!
Unfortunately, there have been 3 other times since 2010 where the basketball team has matched cumulative football wins in November:
2012
2018
2021
Two of those years, we made the dance. The other was when Seth Greenberg was fired while in a recruit's house.
I don't think Seth was in the recruit's house. He was showing him around campus. Equally bad though
Happy to see that Pedulla has "arrived".

Hate to be the debby downer as well, but I agree. A better team would have cleaned up. To many open baskets as well.
Better to have these problems now, against inferior competition, when we can work on them, instead of against conference opponents.

Anyone see that 1pt. Louisville loss to Bellarmine on Wednesday?
No but I did watch ACC officials save Notre Dame against Radford. The last five minutes were just a clinic in Homer calls. Notre Dame won by 1.
Did you know that "LEHIGH FAM" is french for "The high Fam"?
