We have MACtion almost all week. Scott Loeffer is taking Bowling Green Bowling. Tonight we have snowbowl on ESPNU between Western and Central Michigan.
All 3 of tonight's games are tight.
Eastern Michigan/Kent State currently tied at 17
Miami(OH)/Northern Illinois currently 16-17
Western Michigan/Central Michigan currently tied at 7 in the SNOW

Wednesday night MACtion + directional Michigan game + lots of snow = awesome.
BERT EMANUEL JR. DID IT AGAIN! TOUCHDOWN, Chippewas! He finds the hole, makes a cut, and goes allllllll the way to the house for a 60-yard score on the first play of the series! Tied at 7 with 8:20 1Q! #MACtionpic.twitter.com/OAXcbHzcPw— Hustle Belt (@HustleBelt) November 17, 2022

Nowhere else to post and not worthy of its own thread but just heard a great accidental "mis-speak" after the game. They said Clemson and UNCheat are gonna be playing for the ACC championship "CLOWN". Sounds like a Freudian slip to me....

TCU survives with a crazy rushed FG to remain undefeated. No time outs, 15 seconds left, kick team runs out and they just get it off with about 2 seconds left

I watched that. It was chaotic and if tcu would've missed then their coached would be getting heavily scrutinized for bad play calling/clock management right now. But all the props in the world to the kicker for coming through.

Iowa, a team that score 7 points against S. Dakota St. without getting into the end zone is a game against Nebraska away from playing in the Big Ten Championship game. The only time Iowa broke 30 points was against 1 win Northwestern, whose win was against Nebraska who fired their coach. Iowa who has played 3 games where they failed to score 10 points. Iowa, who has thrown 5 TDs and run for 10 TDs this season. VT has score 6 more TDs on offense than Iowa.
Yeah it's bad in the big ten.

Georgia should take care of business against LSU, and I think Ohio St. will annihilate Michigan. Tennessee will and should get the 4 spot after those two and TCU. Clemson shouldn't even be anywhere near the discussion this year.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Easiest way would be for Clemson to lose to either South or North Carolina. The main criteria that the committee has used is number of losses, so as long as there are at least 4 teams with 0 or 1 loss, a 2 loss team won't get in.
OSU and Michigan make it interesting, though. The loser of that game will be 11-1. The winner will be either 13-0 or 12-1 depending on the Big Ten title game.
If LSU can win the SEC at 11-2, that would put Georgia at 12-1 or 11-2. And they're probably the only possible 2-loss teams that would even get a sniff at the CFP.
If TCU and/or USC can get at least one more win, that should keep them both comfortably ahead of a 2-loss Clemson.

The new rankings make things real interesting.
We have the top 4 of Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and TCU undefeated.
#6 USC and #8 Clemson with 1 loss.
Then, #5 LSU and #7 Alabama with 2 losses.
I'm having a hard time projecting the actual final four, as you know the loser of OSU/Michigan will have to drop this week but they could potentially rise up next week. Both teams are guaranteed to finish in the "1 loss or less" club.
If you want to see a really screwed up CFP:
--Georgia beats GT but loses to LSU. That gives us a 12-1 Georgia, but a 11-2 LSU as SEC champ.
--TCU wins this week but loses the Big 12 title. They'd be 12-1 but not champs, and definitely ranked higher than the Big 12 champ.
--winner of OSU/Michigan loses the Big Ten champ.
It's theoretically possible that none of the the "best four teams" are conference champs.

UNC allows 21 unanswered to lose the game. Not to mention, ends any Drake Maye Heisman talk as well as any playoff chances in case they were to run the table. It's so beautiful.

South Carolina is maintaining their lead on Tennessee. I will still be surprised if they can pull it out, but they're not slowing down as much as I'd have thought

I for one will eat a big piece of humble pie on Shane I am really glad to see him doing well in the SEC but I was one of the group who felt it might be a to tough of a job.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Eh, this doesn't really bother me that much. It gets trotted out pretty frequently by ESPN, but not many people beat top 5 teams... hence their inclusion in the top 5.
It's why it is such a big deal when it happens.
Fantastic win for Shane and SC.

So, I thought that Shane would be more likely to face off against top 5 opponents by being in the modern day SEC and having Clemson as an in-state rival. Compared to Frank's VT starting off as independent and then going into the Big East, so their only likely top 5 opponent would be Miami.
Then I looked at the actual records.
Shane's only faced 3 top 5 teams in his first two years -- Georgia both years and Tennessee this year. He's 1-2.
And Frank faced 3 top 5 teams in his first two years (Miami, Clemson, and FSU), but went 0-3. Other than two more games against FSU in 1990-1991, Frank didn't face a top 5 team that wasn't Miami until 2004, when he got #1 USC and #3 Auburn to bookend the season. (And of course, Frank's only top 5 win was against Miami in 2003.)
(And just for further comparision, Fuente went 0-3 against top 5 teams -- all Clemson -- in his 6 year tenure.)
*all of my numbers are coming from Wikipedia, so maybe it's different depending on which poll someone uses.

Williams for USC might have just cost them the win and maybe an outside shot at the playoffs. Had a wide open run for a first down instead he threw a bullet at the TE who had no shot to catch it.

If anyone was missing the drama of ACC Coastal Chaos this year, the Big Ten West has you covered.
Coming into this week, none of the teams in contention controlled their own destiny. Illinois needed a loss by Purdue, Iowa needed a loss by Illinois, Purdue needed a loss by Iowa. Minnesota needed losses by both Purdue and Illinois.
That kind of drama. What really helped that division's race this week was Illinois playing Michigan, and Michigan winning.
After this week's games, the picture has gotten a lot clearer.
Iowa can clinch the division either by winning on Black Friday, or by Purdue and Illinois both losing.
Purdue can clinch with a win + Iowa loss.
Illinois can clinch with a win + Iowa loss + Purdue loss.
In the event that Minnesota beats Wisconsin, Illinois wins, and Iowa and Purdue both lose, we could see a four way tie that has to go all the way to the divisional record tiebreaker to be decided.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Iowa and Purdue are 5-3. Illinois is 4-4. If the first two lose and Illinois wins, that opens up all of the tiebreaking possibilities at 5-4. Plus, you have to include the winner of Minnesota/Wisconsin who will also be 5-4. (Although neither team has enough tiebreakers to come out ahead.)

Hey, I'm always worried that I miss something myself when I'm going over this stuff late at night. There's been several times I forget to update the win/loss total when I do my copy and paste.

Is Mike gundy ever going to do anything legitimate with ok state or is it in his contract every year to get ranked then lay a fat turd to a bad team late and end up ranked 25th every season? Does he have dirt on Pickens or something where they can't find a coach who actually can get them over the line?

He's basically Frank Beamer/Bill Snyder. Alum of the school, far and away the best coach in school history, 50% chance he wins 10 games in a season. Not sure OkSt could do much better.

In even years when Notre Dame plays at USC, the game is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. (Although in odd years when the game is played in South Bend, the game is scheduled for mid-October.) Because of that, USC-UCLA has to be the weekend before Thanksgiving in even years. (Although in the decade before the Pac-12 had a championship game, USC-UCLA was played on the first weekend of December.)
The Bedlam schedule is probably due to the Big 12 not being able to get out of their own way. A few years ago, there were times when it looked like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would be the top two teams in the conference, so they would end up playing each other in consecutive weeks (Bedlam and then the Big 12 championship). To prevent that, the Big 12 started moving Bedlam around.

USC hasn't UCLA during hate week since 2019 (2020 was COVID, last year they played BYU for hate week, this year it's ND).
Bedlam has always moved around, but is often played during hate week. I'm not sure how they decide when it's the last weekend of the year and when it's earlier.
My best guess would be TV - This weekend (often called SoCon Saturday) is light with TV inventory. Makes sense to feature some exciting matchups this weekend (while the SEC is mostly playing FCS schools) and get more viewers that way.
EDIT: I like Blue Hokie's answer more.

Anyone see the Brent Pry Hokies support sign at Gameday?
I did. VT fans are everywhere!
Gameday needs to come back to Disney that was fun.
Gameday needs to come back to Blacksburg...those days were fun...
Yes it was.
UMass and Texas A&M are tied up at 3 in the 2Q.
TCU might miss the playoff because of an OPI going uncalled
TCU survives with a crazy rushed FG to remain undefeated. No time outs, 15 seconds left, kick team runs out and they just get it off with about 2 seconds left
I guarantee they've practiced that scenario every week since camp started.
Things are going well in Aggie land.
aTm wave.
This shit is bananas
I watched that. It was chaotic and if tcu would've missed then their coached would be getting heavily scrutinized for bad play calling/clock management right now. But all the props in the world to the kicker for coming through.
I think the best coaching move might have been not letting the kicker even have a moment to think about it.
Run out and kick it
Perhaps, but you're gambling on a million things going right first. I got super nervous watching it play out
Other undie barely survives! Michigan got saved by some very suspect ref calls to squeak past Illinois with a FG in the closing seconds
Refs? Giving Michigan beneficial calls? Including one that was a controversial catch going in their favor? Never.
I'm looking forward to OSU blowing Michigan off the field next weekend. They are the most overrated team in the country.
I think Ohio St. might be more overrated than Michigan.
They both are. Big Ten is pretty much garbage.
Iowa, a team that score 7 points against S. Dakota St. without getting into the end zone is a game against Nebraska away from playing in the Big Ten Championship game. Yeah it's bad in the big ten.
At this point I just want things to play out in such a way that Clemson does not make the playoff. They do not deserve it at all.
Georgia should take care of business against LSU, and I think Ohio St. will annihilate Michigan. Tennessee will and should get the 4 spot after those two and TCU. Clemson shouldn't even be anywhere near the discussion this year.
Just saw a studio update, and this may or may not age well...
South Carolina is going to lose steam. Came out pretty hyped up but I don't think they can keep up.
Edit - well, looks like Hooker is down and hurt bad. Hope he is ok. If not, there goes the Vols season.
you're probably right but I'd love to see them win. Would make me happy for Shane
I love how middle of the 3rd with an 11 point lead SC isn't favored to win the game.
How about middle of the 4th with a 25-point lead?

I see two paths to Clemson's exclusion at this point, and the first one requires both TCU and USC to run the table.
Then you get: UGA, Winner of THE GAME, undefeated TCU and USC, who would be a 1 loss champ with a much stronger resume than Clemson.
Unfortunately, I hate to bank on both TCU and USC not dropping the ball in the next two weeks.
The other pathway is as you mentioned, which is the simplest and the easiest way to ensure they don't make it: A loss to SCar or UNC.
The new rankings make things real interesting.
We have the top 4 of Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, and TCU undefeated.
#6 USC and #8 Clemson with 1 loss.

Chaos!!!!
Happy to see TCU win. Was hoping for Harbaugh to blow it like usual.
Ohio St should bury that team next week.
I don't normally root for Maryland... But against OSU, I can make some exceptions.
Kentucky is actually keeping it interesting against Georgia. Assuming Georgia will pull it out, but Kentucky not making it easy.
Oh and the bad snap and missed FG probably ends it for Kentucky.
Most important game of the day ... The Game: Yale 19 and Harvard 14 as Yale takes the Ivy!
OSU Maryland game is really interesting so far
UMD has 42 seconds to beat AnOSU 🤞🤞
Fun while it lasted
Tennessee has already found themselves in a football game.
Either Hokie Shane Beamer wins or Hokie Hendon Hooker wins, either way, go VT grads!
Vandy rushing the field in a manner only Vandy would
Well it's only like 30 people so they could do it in an orderly fashion.
Well, that's Vandy
Downs dropping the go ahead touchdown on a 4th down wide open is top of my things you hate to see
I think I speak for all of us when I say FUCK UNC
But more than that, you love to see it.
Tennessee cannot stop the gamecocks and I'm LOVING it. Go fighting Shanes!!
Gamecocks shredding UT right now.
Must be getting too cold in Columbia tonight
Wasn't that noted as pertaining to a medical issue?
Defense might be an issue for Tennessee and right now they are getting shredded
UNC allows 21 unanswered to lose the game. Not to mention, ends any Drake Maye Heisman talk as well as any playoff chances in case they were to run the table. It's so beautiful.
What the heck is going on in Oklahoma right now????
Bedlam, apparently.
Lol suck it tarholes
This will always get a leg from me!
USC east up 35 to 24 over Tennessee at halftime. Would love to see Shane end Tennessee's playoff hopes.
the Ump cam for the UCLA USC game is pretty cool - first time i'm seeing that (if that tells you how much football I watch)
South Carolina is maintaining their lead on Tennessee. I will still be surprised if they can pull it out, but they're not slowing down as much as I'd have thought
Lol after your comment they went full speed ahead
This Tennessee team is the anti-VT. All offense, no defense.
Thats because they have our QB
LOL, leg
*Tennessee's defense has left the chat*
So that's where it's been!
Shit... Hooker looks seriously hurt
Like way beyond that sideline shaking incident. From the way he reacted and fell he might have blown his ACL
Oh man that looks awful for Hooker.
The complete lack of contact was so scary... he just twisted his leg and fell. Oh, brother
Really hope Hooker ends up being ok. That didn't look good at all.
Yeah, he blew something. It is bad.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hendon was able to walk off the field... phew
He's walking but with a visible limp. He's definitely done for the night. Hope it's just a sprain.
You can walk on a torn ACL
Yeah, he went down like a sniper took his knee out. Not great, Bob.
People forget that Phillip Rivers played an AFC Championship Game with a torn ACL. Walking in a straight line doesn't mean a whole lot.
I think Shane's Gatorade bath was much better than his Duke's Mayo bath at the bowl game.
I for one will eat a big piece of humble pie on Shane I am really glad to see him doing well in the SEC but I was one of the group who felt it might be a to tough of a job.
I just read on ESPN that Shane already has as many win against Top 5 teams as Frank....ouch
To paraphrase the fam thread ... sometimes I don't like facts
Edit: stupid autocorrect
thanks I hate that
Eh, this doesn't really bother me that much. It gets trotted out pretty frequently by ESPN, but not many people beat top 5 teams... hence their inclusion in the top 5.

Thanks for doing the research I was way too lazy to do but really wanted to know about.
No way the UCLA quarterback should still be in after that hit he took.
Williams for USC might have just cost them the win and maybe an outside shot at the playoffs. Had a wide open run for a first down instead he threw a bullet at the TE who had no shot to catch it.
Well never mind defensive end with an amazing coverage INT to certainly seal the game for USC.

I know, right?
He's a man, he's 55. You'd think he'd have this figured out by now.
He simply cannot be 55. ... Because that means he said the thing 15 years ago, and surely I'm not getting old.
He did but you ain't old Reese
This year might be a bit different as they are basically playing their 2nd string on offense due to injuries.
He's basically Frank Beamer/Bill Snyder. Alum of the school, far and away the best coach in school history, 50% chance he wins 10 games in a season. Not sure OkSt could do much better.
Hated seeing Hooker get hurt and I hope he's alright.
But I loved Tennessee's playoff aspirations biting the dust.
This might be the first good weekend of college football all season.
8 top 25 teams lost, 6 to unranked, 1 to lower ranked.
Mich, OSU, TCU, and UGA almost lost too. So lots of close games for the undefeated.
Confirmed that Hendon Hooker tore his acl :(
All three service academies all won and combined for zero completions
Just curious does anyone know why Bedlam and USC-UCLA were a week early?
