Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, @247SportsPortal has learned. Armstrong has thrown for more than 9,000 yards in his career.https://t.co/hmusmXavaG— Chris Hummer (@chris_hummer) December 1, 2022
If he had a year like 21 I'd take him in Blacksburg

I would too after Elliot nuked his draft stock
It was said in the portal thread but man, his nosedive was crazy. Between the line play and Tony Elliott being a quarterback guru, he had a rough go at it this year. I also think losing Anae and the QB Coach Beck were huge. I thought Anae played to his strengths and Beck was a great coach. They started the year very strong at 'Cuse.
I'm starting to think "quarterback guru" is code for "coached good QBs" rather than the implied "is good at coaching QBs".
Agreed. "Just a bad coach" would also work.
Yeah Im not that impressed that a guy who gets the #1 QB from high school every year finds a way to put a good qb on the field. If anything, the underperformance of some of those qbs shows his limitations
Even if Elliot was a good QB coach, a change in scheme and coaching would lead to a decline in productivity, I'd think, unless Elliot was a total QB magician. IIRC they replaced the entire offensive line this year too, so I'm not sure his nosedive is the real deal. I think he'll land somewhere and be stronger there than he was at LOLUVA this year.
Thought they had a multi year starter?
But Armstrong would be reuniting with his OC from the year he tore it up at UVA. If it's replicable it's a clear upgrade for Cuse.
Only to end with a backwards pass to a lineman?
But Syracuse doesn't play Georgetown in football, so you don't have to worry about galaxy brain plays like that
It always pissed me off that UVA was the team with a good defense and lefty QB that can scramble...
I hope he goes to a good school that's just a QB away from being great. Maybe he goes to USC and plays for Riley after Caleb leaves.
Rooting for UVA players- just because- is a weird flex for a hokie fan, but hey.. (the horrific events of last month notwithstanding- don't get me wrong please)
If he goes and has an amazing season somewhere else, it makes Tony Elliott look bad.
ooohhhhh. gotcha. I see where you were going now!
It's the 3D chess of hate.
Reading the 3D chess part immediately got me thinking this.
I hope he goes to Tennessee and wins the Heisman next year then lol
Tony Elliott's mustache accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
I am always happy when a good player leaves UVA and shines somewhere else. It makes UVA just a little dimmer.
Glass House!
Yeah, but we ditched the coach that made the bad choice. UVA's choice that made the QB regress was just hired this year.
Caleb's a sophomore, he's coming back
Caleb has 2 more years doesn't he? Armstrong is good but not "unseat a 5* QB as a freshman then completely transfer schools and win the Heisman" good
I didn't realize that Caleb didn't redshirt. Armstrong would never unseat him, I just tried to think of places where a QB could come in and have everything around him ready-made. Lincoln Riley is the best of this, hence why I threw USC out there.
You're right he didn't so he'd have one more year I guess but would be BA's last, but yeah I could seriously see him going to Cuse to hook back up with Anae. Schraeder was serviceable but I don't think he does anything special up there
Ive said it on here. If you were on a college roster in 2020, you essentially have unlimited eligibility
Armstrong is just an OK QB. I think he's a smart, fantastic football player who happens to play the QB position. Robert Anae's system is perfect for a QB who is unorthodox and thrives on improvisation. Elliot's offense essentially put him in a box.
I hope the kid lands somewhere.
