That's a really weird order r/cfb tweeted the teams out there...

GOTCUM

I think they swapped OSU and TCU to line up the pairings the way they wanted.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Also, we know that the Sugar Bowl is #5 Alabama vs. # 9 Kansas State. (#2 SEC vs. Big 12 champ)

Orange Bowl is #7 Clemson vs. #6 Tennessee.
Tennessee at #6 is the highest ranked SEC/B1G/ND team not already contractually obligated to another bowl.

Rose Bowl is #8 Utah vs. #11 PSU (Pac-12 champ vs. Big Ten #3 since first two are CFP)

Cotton Bowl is #16 Tulane vs. #10 USC
-Tulane is the highest ranked G5 champ. At #10, USC is the highest ranked team not already in a NY6 bowl.

That means NY6 is the top 11 teams plus #16.

Orange Bowl is #7 Clemson vs. #6 Tennessee.

That is definitely a very Orange bowl.

DOH! I'll drink...

good opportunity for a color rush game

Danny is always open

I actually quite like the matchups, even though it annoys me a little to see OSU in there...they were clearly the best choice after the Trojans gagged. Certainly better than seeing Bama back in there.

UGA, clearly the best team
UM, as much as I dislike them and not looking forward to my home city being full of Wolverine fans prior to the Fiesta Bowl, was 2nd
TCU, 1 loss to a top 10 team, and I respect them for going for it like they did for the win (in an extra CCG that the Buckeyes didn't even make it to) People will gripe about their inclusion I'm sure, but F em. Go Horned Frogs!
OSU, as I said, who else do you pick other than them?

Edit: and as mentioned above there are some compelling matchups for the other NY6. Clemson/Tenn will be fun, so will K State and Bama

Agreed. The NY6 all seem like good matchups.

I'm glad the CFP committee didn't go stupid with TCU. Both teams played great games and Duggan played like a man possessed in the 4th; he literally put that team on his back to keep KState from winning.

I'd love for TCU to win it all and KState beat Bama just to give the finger to ESPN/SEC/B1G for the shit they pulled last year.

They got it right IMO. Honestly, this has the potential to be the playoff ever.

  • OSU has the raw talent to beat UGA (osu and UGA both have >80% bluechip ratio).
  • TCU vs Michigan is a 'styles make fights' situation
  • An OSU vs Michigan championship would be fun.

Of course, it also has the potential to be 3 blowouts. So hope that doesn't happen.

If it ends up being 3 blowouts so be it. I'm with ya that the committee did a nice job.

And if it's 3 blowouts, it's likely because UGA murdered 2 teams as part of that

Wow, the Orange Bowl truly is the 'Orange' Bowl this year... Clemson vs Tennessee.

What's funny is how the conferences keep trying to game the system and jockey for playoff spots, and it usually backfires on them.

After the Big 12 felt they got screwed in 2014 due to a lack of a championship game, they added one. The only problem is that they already play a round robin schedule, so the game is always going to be a rematch. In this year's case, TCU had already beaten everyone in the conference, but then they take a loss in the title game.

The Pac-12 got rid of divisions this year, which allowed Utah into the title game instead of Washington. That might have been a better matchup for USC, and a USC definitely would have gotten in with a win. At the very least, an 11-2 conference champ Washington team would have a stronger case against any other 2 loss team.

I think it's just that the narrative will always lean in favor of B1G and SEC teams, so no matter what the other conferences do it will be wrong.

TCU Or Bust Yawn

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Ohio state doesn't deserve to be in. They are way overrated and Michigan proved that when they pantsed them on their own field. But this is what you get when you don't make a conference championship win a requirement for getting in. OSU will lose by 3 scores to Georgia. At least.

Onward and upward

Who would you put in ahead of them?

Anybody who didn't play in the championship game and has 2 loses doesn't deserve to be in either. K-State beat a playoff team in their CC, but I am not sure they deserve it. Clemson and Utah don't and USC really doesn't either. LSU has 4 loses.

This year there are really only 3 playoff worthy teams. OSU was the most worthy of the rest.

This year there are really only 3 playoff worthy teams.

TBH there's only 2 - Michigan and UGA.

My dream playoff system that will never happen is having a playoff that fluctuates in size each year. So if there's only 2 teams that had a regular season better than everyone else, it's a 1 game 'playoff'. If there are 3-4 teams that had amazing seasons, it's a 4 team playoff. In a year like 2014, you would do 8 teams. In a year like 2007, you would do 16 teams.

That's a fair point given that TCU lost in their CC.

Tennessee. Best wins and much tougher schedule than Ohio State. Sure they got clipped by a hot SC team right at the end but their body of work is way better, and they smacked all the average teams they played where OSU had a few scares

Disagree, 1 loss the No. 2 team is >> than 2 losses even if one of those is to the No. 1 team.

Also, I am pretty sure the committee (right or wrong) takes into account the roster (I.e. Tennessee's best player is out). UGA vs. Tenn would be an even bigger blowout thar UGA vs. OSU.

I think they got the top 4 right, I am also hoping the B1G continues to gets embarrassed on national TV. I hope Georgia and TCU steam roll them.
