I know we didn't line up some of our best football players ever this past season but I'm still going to be wildly nervous as guys that chalked significant PT enter the portal.
1) he is an RS Sr so this is just his portal year left. He would have naturally been gone
2) he gets way less time without the strong injury, now yes that means we are losing depth but see #1
I'm sorry what? Can you ELI5 this portal year left in your first point? are you saying that he's exhausted eligibility for us but still has a year left to play for different school? this confuses me greatly 0_0
He's saying Armani already played 4 years for us so normally he'd be leaving this year anyways, but gets an extra year due to the Covid year. He could have returned and played a 5th year for us if he wanted.
oh he's saying under normal circumstances he wouldve been done playing for us anyways, gotcha, gracias
sux to be losing experienced depth tho. As we saw this season even if you have good starters it negates them if they have to play 90%+ of the snaps and are exhausted by the 4th quarter
Like Mr. Storm Your Field said, it's his COVID year, not his "portal" year.
I always liked Armani because he was physical, and appeared to be one of the only players who S&C was working for at the end of the Fu era. Best of luck where you land, Armani!
Sucks because he's a guy who has played ALOT the last few years, but he wasn't going to start next year with Strong and Delane coming back, Cam Johnson getting another year to develop and Cam Fleming coming in. Best of luck to him!
The future at corner looks good though. Delane and Strong, Hoping Cam Johnson gets on the field.
Donte Lovette and Cam fleming should be solid at Corner in the next few years. They're high on Devin Alves too.
My Only Concern is some team Poaching Mansoor Delane because his brother is going to be a 5-star in 2025. NIL could play a factor and take them both in a package deal
I think everyone is at least a little worried that this might happen.
I thought we were supposed to get all the brothers?
Right? Like, Delane boys, let me introduce you to the Fullers.
Hell yeah! And the Edmundi!
Not happy to see a contributor go, but he was going to be in a fight for PT. Hopefully he finds the right fit and shows out.
Wishing you the best Mr. Chatman. Have lots of success in the future.
Just as I suspected, we are going to join an 8-man Texas football conference once we pair down this roster!
I'll be the first to admit I was extremely critical of his play this year, but I wish him the best and hope he can find some late success in his college career.
Suggesting he and keshon artis could be a package deal
Gonna be honest I don't think either of them would start on another P5 team. Prob would be best to end up with a JMU/App State type team and put up numbers
UNC, BYU, Kansas, Marshall, and ECU have all offered Chatman per his Twitter. Whether he starts will be up to him. I can definitely see him at ECU.
As long as they aren't playing us! /s
Out of those schools there's only one true P5 team (Kansas doesn't count) and UNC is his hometown school
Yes, BYU
Hometown school? UNC??
University of Nirginia Ceach
That made me laugh! Maybe go old school with it and have it University of Norfolk County?
My bad I got him mixed up with one of the Greensboro guys
Kansas played way better than VT this year and are going to a bowl game.
Kind of hoping he was just testing waters and wants to stay here.
One of the classiest portal announcements. Once a Hokie, always a Hokie. Good luck to Armani - hope he lands in a spot where he can shine.
*Vomit*
UNC is the biggest clown program and I honestly hate them more than UVA and WVU combined. It's where fragile egos go to be massaged and talent goes to die.
All under the guise of elite academia. Give me a freaking break.
I think you're looking for the mt Rushmore of hate thread
☝️☝️☝️ They're not good folks, many people are saying.
I guess fucking UVA was out of room? For fuck sake
For frick sake! I'm hoping in his heart of hearts he could choose UVA and did the lesser of 2 evils if there is such a thing there.
Dude is still a Hokie through and through to me. Go get some PT my man!
Gross 🤢 🤢 🤮
I wish you the best, unless you play against us. Why would he go there when he saw a ton of their secondary bolting for the portal this year? Not worried about having to get coached up since it's his last year maybe? I dunno, their defensive play calling or coaching doesn't exactly scream NFL tape material either though....
Cash or a Masters he doesn't have to work for.
Or even attend class for.
Oh this is sad.
Good luck to him. Clear path to starting time with the exodus of other players. Maybe he gets some NIL money. Only one game if it's on the schedule that I want him to do poorly.
We're not scheduled to play them next year unless we somehow are both in the ACC championship at which point I will give 0 fucks who Armani is playing for cause ill be drunk.
Boooooooo
The guy has been Uber supportive of the program, even today. So, I wish him all the success.
But UNC, as a whole, can go catch crabs from a toilet seat.
I thought crabs were a Maryland thing
Maybe that's what he meant by "toilet seat".
Hard to tell.
Why's he still throwing up VA hand signs?
He's from Virginia Beach and UNC is trying to make it known they're still raiding our state.
Photo is with Dre Bly. All he does is poach 757 kids to UNC since that's where he grew up and played.
But man can't coach out of a paper bag.
Poaching is with cash in a paper bag.
Coaching is something different.
Like someone said earlier, we wont play against him next year, so if that's where he wants to go, good for him.
but the move to UNC feels very J.G. Wentworth of him.... it's his money and he wants it now.
Whereas if he goes to a place that can coach him up, he might have a shot at the big show and more dough.
I think what we're saying is that better coaching may not be part of this. Also, poor taste in hand signals by flashing the VT sign in a UNC uniform.
Good luck to him, though. We're all on the same side, unless we meet on the field.
Looks like he's going to need to learn some new hand signals.
our offensive yardage total in the game next year just went up by 100. Probably throw in a couple extra TDs and some drive extending PFs
We don't play them...sooooo
Then the same applies to our defense in the opposite direction... 100 fewer yards, a few less TDs, and way less dumbass tackling.
Why try and pile on here and not be happy the guy gets to extend his career? I'd honestly like your thought process
It's interesting. According to 247, he wasn't recruited by UNC out of high school. His career at VT was mixed. He was definitely a contributor, but he was being passed on the depth chart that it seemed like his 2023 snaps would be limited with Strong and Delane, and incoming talent. And with the losses of talent that UNC had via the portal this year, UNC signing Chatman makes them look a little desperate.
I want to see how this plays out. I don't see a lot of success for either Chatman or UNC.
In the end, I do want to see Chatman go out a winner, but UNC doesn't seem like the place for him to do that. Perhaps, this was his best NIL opportunity and he should capitalize on that as much as possible before his next venture. And if that's the case, then good for Chatman.
I'm not sure if I would bet against the long and storied tradition of DBs who transferred from VT to UNC and proceeded to set the world on fire...
.
.
.
...like Bryce Watts. For those scoring at home, he ultimately ended up at UMass.
It's like the opposite of our basketball transfers
You nailed it here.
Best place for him to start, with everyone else departing the UNC CB room
Did anyone else see that Jones commented on his announcement? Honestly I respect Jones for that.
