Pitt should just stay in the 2-3 zone. When they play that defense, our offense consists of passing between our two guards up top, and we have JVG flashing to the middle (who is absolutely no offensive threat, let alone 15 feet from the basket). Lamar Patterson looks off for Pitt.

29-29 two minutes in to second half. Shocked they are hanging tough like this today. Was totally prepared for this to be their fifth straight 20+ point loss

End of 1st half and end of 2nd in a nutshell. First a chance to take the lead into the half and they choke, then a chance to win it in regulation and they turn it over. I know Jarrell is the "lead" senior on the team, but with the game on the line, I'd have put the ball in Wilson's hands. I don't trust Jarrell to dribble more than twice. Hell, Nick Faust knew that. The entire end of the Maryland game he just kept whispering to Jarrell that a turnover was about to happen. March 13th will not come fast enough for this group.

I know Eddie made some good shots too, but we had so many chances to put this away and Raines and Eddie looked like complete bumbling idiots every time they got the ball down the stretch.

Great effort by our guys today and I'm proud of them. Looks like they just ran out of gas by the end. Maybe it's a depth issue?
This kind of loss is a double-edged sword. It shows they can hang with pretty good teams, but to have the game slip away like that really stings. I don't know if it's worse to lose like this or get shelled by 20...

I will take this kind of loss 10 games out of 10. And at least our basketball court doesn't hace Tiger stripes inside each three point arc ala Towson Tigers. That court is hideous.

True. At least this one was exciting. I've just endured so many close Hokie losses (across sports) that it's coming close to causing my heart physical injury. A loss with this kind of effort has some good takeaways, though.

I'm a little late but I couldn't be more proud. Give this effort against Miami and we can win, heck if we give this effort every game we will definitely win at least 1-2 more games. Go Hokies!

I don't understand the logic of putting Beyer in there when down by 4 with JVZ and Trevor fouled out and you leave Wood on the bench. You need a shooter on the floor. Beyer puts in the work and is a great hustler, but when the game is on the line, I'd much rather have Wood in there. Maybe I missed something and he was a scratch or something, but I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with him other than JJ building his doghouse around someone new.

I had to listen on the radio, but from how they were talking about it Wood was only dressed for an emergency situation (I assumed that meant we only have 4 eligible guys left). They didn't say why though.

That's what I'll hopefully find out tomorrow. I don't recall him getting hurt anytime recently. He had been receiving little to no playing time recently due to his lack of hustle in practice/general overall bad attitude, so it's either an extension of that or he got hurt in practice right before they left. I'd consider the point at which Trevor fouled out as an emergency situation. Having a stretch 4 in the game when you are down 4 could help stretch the floor.

From what I heard (again, I didn't get to watch so feel free to correct me) Beyer was making some great hustle plays down the stretch. A lot of rebounds, and I think a couple on the offensive end too. We did need points, so I can see how we'd like to have Wood in there, but I'll take those hustle plays still.

Beyer did have four rebounds in three minutes of play in this game but also had an opportunity to put the ball right back in the basket on two of those rebounds, one he missed badly, the other he put the ball on the floor and ended up losing the basketball when he tried to go back up with a shot.

guys please dont get excited about this and take this of any sign that things are turning around. We played the exact same game we have played since ACC play started, it just happened that pitt only scored 48 points too, this is about what we usually score.
If there star patterson has a solid game and scores 15, we loose this thing by 15, he either had 0 or 2 in regulation.
Another pitiful offensive showing, I swear it is not that hard to score. And it just gets ridiculous how many times we dont get shots off after a time out, coaching is our problem, we are a mess out there.

To be fair, we were better at shooting the ball all the way up until OT started (but then the wheels fell off... 0/13??? Are you kidding me???)
It seemed like both teams were content with burning clock, which explains why the score was so low. But yes, either our D played well, or Pitt's O played bad, because otherwise they still would have shot 50% or more like most of our opponents.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
It was a combination of both. Our D did play better than normal, but they also had a couple guys that took Jarrell Eddie's disease for the day, unfortunately they gave it back to him in Overtime. OT was a complete fail.

18-16 with about 7 minutes left in the half

Boys are playing hard today.
Eddie in a little bit of a rhythm right now.
How in the f^$&@* do you not get a shot up there before half?
Terrible clock awareness at the end of the first half. Good half though, only down by one. 27-26.
29-29 two minutes in to second half. Shocked they are hanging tough like this today. Was totally prepared for this to be their fifth straight 20+ point loss
I want to believe they can do it, I really do. So I will.
34-29 @ 16 min mark. Who are these guys and what did they do to the real Tech bball team?
when was the last time they were even competitive in the 2nd half? do i dare to dream?
UMD-Eastern Shore. The onk y negative is that its still this close when Tech is shooting 55% and Pitt is at 34%
obviously pitt's gonna have to be having a shit day for us to be hanging around but i'll take it!
Seeing some great effort from Raines out there.
pitt just dont look that interested. . .
Raines working his butt off right now. Great to see.
This is solid work. Really glad to see some life out of these guys
EDDIE!
I want them to win so freaking bad. LET'S GO!
I could really REALLY use this morale boost as a fan
7 mins is still MORE than enough time to choke & turd the punch bowl.
Did you help write Bobby Knights book "the power of negative thinking"?
You're on notice.

Raines has terrible hands, but his effort has been great today
devin wilson is a baller
That was an incredible play by Wilson. Amazing with how many minutes hes been playing
This one's going to be a nail-biter.
Come on ...close this out with a W
Coach - quit chewing them out with less than 2 minutes to go, encourage them
And a foul. Derp.
That sequence was pure pain
the one thing they couldnt do (turn it over) they did
Eddie got hammered on the arm
The bright side is they are taking a ranked team to overtime. The dark side is that they should have already won this game
Come on boys get it done
Link to game? ESPN3 says it is blackouted here.

Thanks. Get to watch the last 30 seconds and double OT.
Critically bad turnovers are starting to piss me off
Wow. Two missed free throws. Bailed us out right there.
All gamecast is reporting is foul on tech, foul on tech, foul on tech...
Wilson hits 2 clutch free throws
Pitt ball....33.6 secs to go
On to 2OT. This game is killing me.
that last possession is killing me
Yep, looked like there was no real plan there at all.
2nd overtime.....should have called a timeout Coach
No timeout JJ? He must be saving them to double ice some freethrows
How I would describe this game:

Well we were in it until the second OT.
Survivin on their missed free throws. Eddie killing me missing those open look threes
0-11 from the floor in OT? That is just wrong.
Raines choked away the tip killer
and as she walks through hokie hoops oblivion this music is playing.

That sums it up nicely. At least it wasn't another 20 point loss.

Proud of the effort. Disappointed in the mental mistakes that prevented a win. Hard to question this team's desire.

Just in time to snatch defeat from the jaws o victory. Inevitable.

We get crushed by 20 again if Raines doesn't play. Guy was everywhere. Every rebound he had was a hustle play. Hope he gets to play more.
