One of the guys I coach football with told me today that Tyrod will be opening up a 7on7 academy in the 757. Wasn't sure if it was true at first, but from what I'm gathering it is. Definitely good news.

Well, ask and he shall receive. That's pretty much from the HOT mouth.
Thanks.
Thanks Joe, you got it man!
Nice. We'll start our own 7-on-7 pipeline. With Blackjack. And hookers. Wait, what are we talking about?
No, no, I think we're on to something here.
On second thought, let's forget about the 7-on-7
And the blackjack!
"...WITH CHICKS! AND GUNS! AND FIRETRUCKS!!!"
To this day Bachelor Party may still be my favorite Tom Hanks movie. Volunteers is up there too, with an assist from John Candy.
the first boobs i ever saw in a movie as a child were in bachelor party.
I was about to ask if that's Bruce Springsteen?
Pretty sure Miami already has one of those set up...
Sounds like a University of Miami Junior Day to me
This might be the source of some future hokies! Great way to contribute Tyrod.
Vick Sr. might be out of the league soon. Get him on this too. And Randall could get involved. Ultimate VT pipeline.
Yeah TIMECOP can suck on that.
I could Kam Chancellor getting involved as well in some capacity, he makes quite a few trips to the area during the year...
Three of our most legendary QBs? Yes please.
So are we now supporting 7v7 teams? Just last week everyone was dogging the Breds saying we should stay very far away from that kind of stuff. I'm for whatever can get us top talent as long as we don't do anything stupid to jeopardize the program. And best believe, the Breds will be all over this just looking for some kind of infraction to call Tyrod/us out on, so I hope we don't give them anything.
But I love how Tyrod did this simultaneously with the article about the Breds last week. That's school pride right there. "Oh you want to hate on the Hokies do you? Well how about this....." Tyrod's the man!
It wasn't that we were against 7x7, it's that the 'breds, with the information we know, look more like a booster team than one with the kids 100% personal development in mind.
Yeah but if this thing starts rolling and all these kids start coming to VT then people will say the same thing about us. "Tyrod just started that to get kids to go to VT. He doesn't have their best interests at heart." I mean Tyrod obviously has connections at VT so he'll be talking to VT for the kids, essentially doing what the breds are doing. I guess if he doesn't take money for them to sign up it will be a little different since the breds make them pay.
I don't know, the tone last week seemed very anti 7v7, not just anti Breds. I think this 7v7 thing is muddy waters don't get me wrong, but if it's the new trend in college football then sign me up.
I agree that things are a bit murky now. In principle, there's nothing wrong with the 7-on-7 programs and if it helps these kids stay out of trouble, hone their craft, and improve their professional prospects, more power to them. There are things that can go wrong in terms of the NCAA. Regardless of what Tyrod does, I fully trust Beamer and our compliance staff to keep everything above-board.
I think Tyrod will at least refrain from broadcasting in an open letter that fans from particular schools can go perform an acrobatic reproductive action at a rolling donut and then promise to not allow a single player to attend certain universities.
Haha definitely. I don't think it will be run like the breds at all. Obviously I think it will be a pro VT program but I don't think it will be an anti-any school program.
And I like Nubinile's response below about Tyrod knowing VT and knowing what VT can offer as opposed to the breds just funneling talent to uva out of personal gain. Also guitarman's comment about Beamer/VT not letting the compliance thing become an issue regardless of what Tyord/7v7 do. All very good points.
This.
I love the idea of more VT players helping disadvantaged kids but just as the Thoroughbreds should advise kids to go where it's best for the kid, so should Tyrod and any other VT player. That being said recruits and their parents are not stupid and will know Tyrod's connection to VT. If you as a recruit really want a chance to go to VT you would most likely choose his over any others. But Frank should keep the same rules that parental contact is the primary contact for all 7v7 organizations IMO.
Which is the difference between Tyrod and the 'Breds. Tyrod is a former Hokie QB. Thats upfront. Tyrod could say go to VT they will treat you right. Which is different from the Breds have basically said which is we will not send players to VT. Even if it is in their own best interest.
Exactly. And I am 100% confident he is not going to tweet "Fuck UVA" to a high school kid either.
Class vs Trash
The other difference is that Tyrod (and Vick et all) are awesome. Who would you rather learn from- NFL level talent or local-level coaches?
I think it would be hard to overstate the importance that this could have in countering the current situation in Va Beach. It's not hard to avoid the ethical pitfalls in this case: don't trash other schools, have an agenda for a particular school, and don't act like an agent.
I love Tyrod even more for this.
I doubt the kids will be learning much from Tyrod. Maybe a bit in the offseason, but I'd bet that he just contributed some starting cash and allowed them to use his name. He'll show up to promotional events, probably go talk to the kids occasionally, but he's not likely to be one of the coaches.
Yeah I agree, if the kids from this 7v7 don't all go to VT then we're good to go and much different from the Breds. My worry is if all these kids start coming to VT, people will start looking into things and labeling us. I agree completely though, it should be a program for the kids, not a program for VT (BUT PLEASE COME TO VT!).
Yeah, I think that if you're fine with this, you should be fine with the other 7v7s at least until the NCAA figures out what to do about it. Tyrod is more than likely going to give a more glowing review for VT's program than any other program in Virginia when asked, which he probably will be as a former star QB. Consciously or not he's going to be swaying kids one way more than the other unless he just bank rolls it.
Either way, this is becoming a factor in the recruiting of these kids. As long as we don't do anything shady like call the coaches 400+ times a year.
Yep, people who were going out of their way to disparage the whole notion of 7v7 last week are all of a sudden really cool with the idea now that we potentially have our own pipeline.
I kept trying to say over and over again "Let's not throw out the notion of 7v7 alltogether, just because these guys are shady doesn't mean the whole concept is. Let's be smart and do things the right way with the right people, avoid the bad people, cultivate relationships, blah blah blah."
The conversation last week was definitely not just about one or two 7v7 squads, but the whole notion of "private coaches who steer recruits to a certain school. Keep Contact to the parents and HS coaches only, etc." Can't help but notice a lot of changing tunes this week...
But that was different.
Definitely some maroon-colored glasses on today, for sure. I'm actually glad to see Tyrod getting involved in the 7-on-7 thing, because I have no doubt that he'll be a positive influence on a lot of young men. I still doubt that Beamer & Co. will get anywhere near the situation, because in my mind (and Beamer's, from what I've read), using 7-on-7 coaches to completely circumvent NCAA rules about contact with recruits and coaches (and possibly acting as agents) is something that he is absolutely against. Any player involved in these 7-on-7 leagues is allowed, and entitled, to ask their coaches' opinions about college and their future. Tyrod will be a good person to talk to in that regard, having had a lot of success at the collegiate and professional levels (not a lot of playing time, but that ring carries weight). Beyond that, I think it's completely status quo for VT with respect to these leagues/camps/academies and definitely should be.
The Breds wouldn't try to bring any attention to it, because if they did, they would be hypocrites and their 7on7 would be restricted by the same rules they inacted against Tyrod.
Yea, I thought what I heard in that previous 7v7 thread that what was questionable in what could be (in the future) an NCAA regulated concept was (A) how it was being run, (B) the coaching personnel involved and their real motivation ($ and target colleges), and (C) the target university channeling. If someone, like Tyrod, Vick, Kam, etc. were to run a similar concept but run it in a solid, ethical manner and not do C above and just use their Hokie and NFL creds as the unspoken word, then I think that would be a great thing. I understand that wouldn't necessarily be the guaranteed path to VT for the talent, but certainly we would have an increased probability of getting that 5* talent.
The kids are gonna ask questions and if the coaches and organizational leads are VT grads they are going to answer from their experience which includes....tada... VT!! We should all embrace this model of 7v7 as it would never be in the NCAA grey zone and place VT in the forefront on the right side of the Force! We all should want these kids to get that kind of VT exposure while they make their decisions to go where it will develop their talents and fit their needs best...and that includes, perhaps, not going to VT.
As long as Tyrod doesn't have some personal vendetta against uva then I think there is nothing wrong with it. People are dogging the Breds because of the "adults" running the 7v7 program have personal vendettas against Virginia Tech because we gave them some "cold shoulder" or whatever. They need to act more like adults to these kids instead of participating in a revenge/hate circle against a school. They are acting like kids themselves, in my opinion.
If all these kids want to go to UVA so be it.
Therein lies the difference. We hope.
Love it. And he needs to partner this thing with some of his old buddies while he was here. Lets say bringing in Kam Chancellor and Josh Boykin to help as well. Gee, I wonder who kids in the 757 would rather affiliate themselves with? The Thoroughbred program led by a couple guys who are only known for publicly mouthing off at a particular fanbase, or a team including Super Bowl Champions Tyrod Taylor, Kam Chancellor, and wide receiver Josh Boykin, who all were in their shoes within the past 10 years?
I like this.
Having NFL players would definitely be better. Also, I think you meant to say Jarrett Boykin or Josh Morgan
Showing off that ring means a lot.
Tyrod and Kam have instant validation, the same as Coach Moorehead. Not sure how may Thoroughbred coaches have Super Bowl rings, but I sure am glad Tyrod is spreading the good word of VT down in the 757 (or is in the 7v7 these days?)
The only thing is that Boykin is from Charlotte and Morgan is from DC. You get an even stronger response if you bring in local guys IMO.
Sounds awesome! I don't think Tyrod will funnel people to VT but would definately inform them of what it's like. Again, I believe he'll run a much classier organization than the breds who as stated above are just local and trash Tech for whatever reason they do. Looking forward to seeing this happen.
We don't know if TT's 7v7 would become a VT pipeline. True, TT loves the Hokies, but I seriously doubt his motivation is VT recruiting.
Dwight Vick, Michael's and Marcus' cousin, is heavily involved with a company called College Prep World (website currently being redesigned) that helps students get ready for college and hosts football camps. Michael has helped out these camps. If you know Dwight, you know he's a huge Hokie fan (does columns on vtscoop.com). However, he's already on record (can't find the source, so this is from memory) that his high-school prep courses will not be influencing recruits to VT. I would argue based on TT's personality, TT's 7v7 would be the same. It's about developing athletes into men, not about VT recruiting.
good points, but worst case is that it is one more option for recruits not to go to the sketchy 7x7s, thus diluting their influence. If a kid did grow up admiring TT, he will be likely to go to his org and avoid the clutches of the anti-VT campaign.
And Remember everyone, TT's from HPT and the 'Breds are from the Southside.
Very meaningful in the 757.
So, as it stands today CFB can call up TT and shoot the shit for hours if he wanted to. Does this change if TT is running a 7v7 league? Seems very advantageous for us to have a direct line of constant communication to the 757 without having to jump through any NCAA recruiting limitation hoops. It is essentially what LOLUVa is doing, but better and cleaner and safer since TT and VT have a legitimate personal relationship that isn't just based on paying coaches to brainwash players into thinking they will actually go to the NFL after getting blown off the field for four years in front of all those die hard LOL fans.
I think the rule is that Coach Beamer can call T-Mobile 420 times.
But if he calls 421 times, that's an NCAA violation.
I thought Beamer had Verizon...I think they allow unlimited calling but I can't be certain
Well Verizon does, but I'm not sure about NTelos which is what Beamer uses. Or so says his commercials.
AHHH..yeah I forgot about that..my B
good catch +1
I thought Beamer was on NTelos. I haven't seen a local comercial in a while though.
It still makes me nervous..I'd like for it to be cleared by NCAA before we get too heavily involved with something like this..I'd hate for TT and/or VT to get caught up in red tape later down the road.
I'm sure that if this is made a no-no later on unless we were doing some seriously shady stuff like paying the coaches or spending a lot of time influencing the leagues we'd be fine. Right now there's nothing wrong with using it to our advantage, but just so we don't get in one of those given an inch and take a mile scenarios. Which I'd doubt Beamer would let get anywhere near happening.
I like to believe TT will run a classy organization and not try and funnel people to or from certain schools, but if a recruit asks him his opinion of Beamer and VT I'm sure he won't hold back
Exactly! I couldn't say it any better. I did say it, but this is more concise. Glad to see more of these types of comments on this topic.
Tyrod Taylor>Alex Rayner
Alex who?
Well, that's settled then
He's one of the coaches for the breds who tweets "f*** VTech", "none of my players will ever play for the chokies", etc.
I think that questions was rhetorical...
Helps out though. I never knew who Alex Rayner was, but now that I do, I can't wait to dislike him.
+1 sir
I decided to peruse Rayner's Twitter just out of curiosity and found it interesting that when Jaason Lewis (2015 5* athlete from the Thoroughbreds and recent UCLA commit) visited UCLA, it was Rayner that went with him and not his high school coach. I get that these kids can take whoever they want, but that just shows you a little more about the influence these 7v7 coaches have.
Good info...+1 sir.
Not sure if it was clear, but National Underclassmen (NUC) / Next Level 757 is a 7on7 league not just another 7on7 team.
Very interesting Hokie_x3_Hi.
