Thanks Andy. Yeah that's great for him and us. You know what this mean too, right? He probably won't be with us much longer.

I f I were a downvoter I'd downvote this! What a horrible thing to say!!

Virginia Tech would walk right up to you and punch you in the neck. They're just tougher. Cowherd 3:16

EDIT: I hope, of course, this won't happen.

Unless, of course, the new AD enables them to pony up the $$$$$$$.

I def see where you are coming from... when was the last time we were able to keep any coach from any sport from leaving? Just hoping things change with the new AD.

Beamer to UNC in 2001(?) and Bud occasionally throughout the last 15 years are the only times I can think of that we had a coach talking to another school that ended up staying. There were other rumors over the last couple seasons about other football coaches too.

Seth from St. John

Grimes to LSU 2014.

Everyone has this mentality now that because we lost Grimes that no assistant is safe. Grimes took a huge pay cut when he came to VT and we were allowed such a deep discount because of the dumpster fire that was Auburn's 2012 season. In my mind it makes sense for him to move to LSU where he has a shot at contending for national championships right away, where at VT we are still rebuilding.

On to Moorehead. I love the mentality that Moorehead has brought to the program, and I like many others have been impressed by how quickly he has picked up recruiting. However, just because someone is a good recruiter doesn't mean that he will immediately move on to bigger and better things. For example look at Joker Phillips at Florida, who is widely considered one of the best recruiters in the country. Are his practices unethical, that is up for debate. My point is after Florida went 4-8 you didn't see the rest of the SEC pounding down Florida's door to take him away.

I personally love everything that Coach Moorehead has brought to our program from the recruits that he is landing to the emphasis on WR's running crisper routes and enforcing football fundamentals. I hope that he is as endeared with Hokie Nation as we are with him and that he will be around for a very long time.

I hope that too, but I certainly am not gonna hold my breath.

Great gif for this. Moorehead did the work! From the Rivals words, he has really jumped into recruiting with both feet. Just what the Hokie Nation needed! I am sure Coach Beamer and the new AD will reward this kind of work ethic and success. That would definitely keep a guy like Moorehead around for a while. Great work coach!!

Andy, Pie or Cake?

Better than Andy Pie.

This is the third or fourth time someone had tried to get Bitter to pick a side. I think he is trying to stay nuetral. Either that, or he is going to do a signing day style choice. Put a big cake and big pie on the table. Come out, don't say a word, and plunge his face into one.

It is the offseason, Andy. I know you got time for a quick Vine for this.

I noticed all the highly-ranked Hokie recruiters are the new guys that have been brought in over the last few years. I guess Beamer noticed the problem a few years ago and addressed it accordingly by adding Shane, Moorehead and Brown.

While youth is certainly helpful, there are older coaches performing respectably as well. I was surprised at how highly rated Foster was. Here are the VT coaches who are in 247's top 50 ACC recruiters as of today:

5. Shane Beamer
24. Cornell Brown
36.Aaron Moorehead
41. Bud Foster
47. Brian Stinespring
48.Torrian Gray
50. Scott Loeffler

I would also note that with 14 schools in the ACC you would expect about 3-4 coaches per school in the top 50 and VT has 7. Jeff Grimes/Stacey Searls don't appear to be counted in the rankings, but with Leoffler at #50, VT would have 7 in the top 50 regardless.

No way we can lose this man! Already off to a great start for 15 as well. Tne kids love him!
And he can coach!! Look how much the WRs improved from the first game.
That is coaching, my friendly Hokie fans!

I love this guys upbeat attitude!! +1

Onward and upward

He's a great coach and even more importantly, is starting to look like an elite recruiter. We're gaining momentum in the recruiting circuits with guys like Shane, Moorehead, Loeffler, and now Searles. We really can't afford to let these guys go every offseason, and we should so whatever we can to at least keep Shane, Moorehead, and Loeffler in house over the long haul (unless they get an offer for a higher position at another school) so we can keep this momentum going. From what it looks like, we're aiming very high in recruiting for next year, with multiple 5* QBs already offered. Exciting times, and I am loving every second of it.

We offered multiple high ranking QB recruits last year and ended up with our 4th and 5th choices. Where we stand right now for recruiting rarely has an impact on NSD. Last year, we felt really good that a class of Cornwell, Hand, Holmes and Elijah Hood would be the best of all time. UVA was asssured of landing Stroman, Keihn and Phillips.

The two most interesting recruiting changes we have seen with this staff are:
1. Moorehead making us a major playing in the DC/Md market again, and
2. Grimes and Loeffler going whereever the talent is and not just taking the best OL and QB's in a 4 hour drive. Hopefully Searles will continue what Grimes started.

Are you being negative or matter-of-fact?

Regarding QB's we may have ended up at 4th and 5th choices but let's be honest without Lefty these two would not have even been a choice, let alone the other three QB's we chased. Both Ford and Durkin choose VT because Loeffler is the coach and they want to be coached by him. Hell, Durkin never even visit campus when he committed. That isn't just an improvement that's a monumental shift in our ability to get quality QBs. Nobody should feel disappointed with that as it's all upside.

Part of me wants Leal to get his shot but another part wants Ford or Durkin to grab QB1 and light the field on fire. If that happened then we would be serious contenders for top QB prospects in the nation next season. We already gave them offers.

I don't care quick QB starts, all I care is that we win games.

I'm with Fernley on this one. Having exactly zero on-film proof of what he'd want them to do and being on the job a grand total of about 4 months, his reputation alone got visits from two of the best in the country and commitments from 2 very solid QB prospects.

Hear! Hear! (I got that right this time.)

Interesting that the computers like Cornell as a recruiter better than Moorehead.

They are both much better than Newsome...

So, let me get this right.
One of our new coaches is the best recruiter but another rag declared us a big loser because we didn't land some big names we knew were a pie in the sky anyway.

Sounds about right for how in-depth most of the sport writers out there do their stories.
Andy and a couple of the local guys thankfully do not fall into this list of "Those Guys".

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Eureka!!!

Well to be fair, it can go both ways. We were not called 2014 Recruiting Losers, we were 2014 Signing Day Losers. Which is an accurate statement. The last few big name recruits we wanted chose other schools on or just before NSD. However, on top of that our new coaches, especially Moorehead have lit the recruiting trail up. Not really that hard when it's been kind of stale, especially offensively for the past couple years.

What he said.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

But the kind of thing you describe is still counter to the story.
To get to be top 5 you hafta shoot top 5.
Their story is a disincentive for teams to shoot high.

I say it's more of a positive than he's trying to play it out. We were in the running until the last minute against the reining National champs and last years national champs and other teams in the Top 5 up to the very last day.

The Glass is more than half full, not nearly empty.

This is going to be great for the ACC.
