Who knows how many years he has left? I don't know the rules anymore
Games played:
2020: 2 (Redshirt?)
2021: 12
2022: 13
Edit: The UF roster has him listed as a JR.
That looks like 2 to me, but I don't know anymore. It feels like players' eligibility is just drawn out of a hat now.
Bitter is reporting two, but 2020 being covid year + redshirting kinda wonks that up. I would guess he should have three years of eligibility left, but i've been wrong in correctly counting the covid year before and i'll be wrong again.
He has three to play two.
2020 doesn't count. True freshman in 2021. Sophomore in 2022. Junior in 2023. Senior in 2024.
Barring an injury, he ain't redshirting at this point.
Thank you for clarifying!
AB!!! Thanks for the update sir.
Quick someone post Its been awhile gif for me😂
Staind.gif
Anyone know how many years he has of eligibility?
Edit: Drink
Edit to the Edit: 247 says he's a sophomore
Good start to the end of the week. Let's make it even better
Suck it other acc QBs
PRAISE PORTAL
Thank you for displaying correct VT fingers.
He's already 1000% committed
Nah.... None of that shit. He's just committed. That's it.
Welcome aboard Antwaun!!! Let's GOOOOOOOO!!!
the 2020 class was small but needed to have 4* talent in it. It was really tough to see quality in-state players go elsewhere -- Antwaun Powell was labeled a "must-get". KeAndre Lambert is related to Kam Chancellor! Malcolm Greene played for Loren Johnson, but picked Clemson. Chris Tyree was the best in-state running back since Devyn Ford... Ricky Slade... Khalan Laborn... and joined them in going out of state. Tony Grimes and his dad flirted with Tech and picked UNC and Dre Bly.
Nice to see Powell land at Tech after all. Maybe the "This is Home" will really resonate with a message of "I never should have gone anywhere else."
Damn, I was going to add a comment, but you really summed it up perfectly
Let's hope 🍻
I'm hoping this is especially true with Pry being very involved with recruiting in state. It would have been a much tougher sell/justification under Fuente.
The number of recruits that caused meltdowns on this board that didn't work out at the school they ended up choosing is astonishing. DD, Ford, Slade, Jennings, Laborn, Powell, Greene, Harmon, Naquan Brown, and I'm sure i'm leaving people out.
Edit: Looking back at the 2020 class makes me think about the interview Iezzi did in 2020, where he essentially called out the weak recruiting classes in Virginia and that dude was not wrong.
There's always a chicken/egg thing -- dudes that flopped elsewhere may not have flopped here given more opportunity etc. DD would have unquestionably been The Guy, not another highly rated young qb in a room full of them. You're not wrong, but it's almost never apples to apples when looking backwards with hindsight
Hindsight is a blessing, but the previous staff squandered quite literally every 4* talent that ever played here. Hook, Tre, Dax, Nester, the list goes on. Without a doubt in my mind, a lot of those misses wouldn't have covered up the sham coaching staff we put together and we could possibly be in a worse spot than we are now. We could've been the place VA croots went to die but instead ended up as something that could be rebuilt
absolutely, the knife cuts both ways and have a leg for pointing that out -- but the message board meltdowns over slade, ford, DD, etc is precisely because getting buried behind 5*s and rotting on the bench was entirely predictable. nobody knows for certain if they'd've thrived here -- but they would have at least gotten the opportunity to
KeAndre Lambert and Chris Tyree are the only ones on that list that haven't transfered. Both have been okay. But neither have cemented themselves as starters after 3 years.
Definitely wanted this dude out of high school. Awesome that he's finally coming to Blacksburg.
Very quick and explosive... a lot of similar traits to Garbutt in terms of being able to play flat down the line, but stouter at the point of attack. However, despite being explosive, speed and effort get him to QBs more than technique. Pry has done really well with similar skill sets (he turned Arnold Ebiketie
into a first day NFL pick.)
So, DE rotation is likely Powell and McCray to one side, Nelson and either Burgos or Jeanette if he is ready on the other. I expect Payne to move inside and potentially displace Pene, but who knows how he does with his achillies recovery.
Ebiketie went in the 2nd round to the Falcons.
Which i bet used to be a "day one" pick back when french still followed the NFL
Ding ding ding. My last heavy NFL watching was when the draft was all day Saturday and Sunday
Big addition in a position of need!
I too enjoy this news
This portal thing might not be so bad after all. I like it when it does things like this. More please.
Hail portal!!!! Awesome that he has multiple years of eligibility!
That's some good Portaling
Tremendous meme. Here, take a leg or two.
WHOA
just like with Tyler Nickel, better late than never hoss
Wow. This is a huge, huge pull and great for in-state recruiting. Also a heck of a DE who will start immediately and help our pass rush.
Welcome to the team.
Damn. Thats pretty outstanding. Def one of the better ends we have had in a long while. I read the linked article above about Powell being a "must get", and it referenced the 87th ranked recruiting class. I wouldnt have come here either if I was him. Glad he is coming now. Great get. LFG Hokies
So, why was UF trying to have him split time at DE? Is this UF's version of Fuente/Hooker? Where the stats say the player is really good but the coach just likes someone else better?
Could just be that 1 year under new staff there was enough for him 🤷♂️
It references "true pass sets". Maybe he still needs work in the run defense department.
Run stopping DE's are kind of a relic at this point. Powell's game is pass rush, eat block on running plays and let he backers do their job. The stand up end/edge is the modern defense
So we have a live look at Colorado's portal situation now?
What is this from? I remember liking it a lot
The game Portal/Portal 2
Amazing game, I wish they would make another one.
They'll get on it right after Half Life 4. I'm sure of it.
Welcome back Home kid!
One more big get on the way possibly
If it is Demetrius Hill, I will get pretty excited. I am feeling better about this upcoming season.
Or any of the O linemen VT is pursuing.
I feel more confident with the DB room than the O-line room at the moment. But getting D. Hill would get VT another baller on that back end, returning to the glory days of DBU.
That too. Get Hill and Everett and I will consider the off season portal moves a MASSIVE success.
EDIT: Well, shit. Everett just committed to Oklahoma.
Ooofuh
If this is Hill then Dorian, Hill and the xfer from GA Southern are the 3 to CBs with Stroman and Delane at S?
What about Nasir Peoples? I believe he is coming back
I'm just happy this dude looks like a man. I feel like many of our players in the last 5 years have left school looking smaller than SEC boys are as freshman. We have needed some dudes for a while it's fantastic to see them coming in now.
Awesome get!
Do we know who his prime recruiter was?
JC and Ferb
I'm sorry, I can't control my thoughts.

This is so beautiful.
Is this good or Justin Reed mehhh?
Justus Reed?
come on now, never let facts get in the way of a good gripe
This should be a level above that I think - Justus Reid had a strong FCS career but was older and had some injury history so I don't think his ceiling was much higher than what we got out of him. For the current state of our program, i feel like this is about peak transfer portal for us right now so a pretty big deal.
Yeah, I feel like we definitely upgraded the roster via the portal this off-season. Other than Kaleb Smith (who is ending up not playing this yr) and King, we didn't take that much of a loss from a production perspective from players going into the portal. Conversely, we at least from a rankings perspective, have upgraded WR, RB, DB, have legit competiton at QB, and now a much needed pass rushing DE. Hopefully, we get some OL help as well.
Recruiting is always a crapshoot. I think there's a lot to be excited about with this kid though.
You mean Justus Reed? As in Justus Reed who is tied for #1 with Barno/Garbutt for most sacks in a season for any VT player since 2016? Yeah, what a bust lol
/s
Apropos to your point, it is pretty unfortunate that the school put on the map by Bruce Smith doesn't routinely get the top DE talent. VT should be DBU and DEU, but I think we can count on one hand the number of NFL-ready DEs to play in a VT uniform. And many of those flamed out or converted to LB at that level.
I think to some degree that was a function of Bud Foster's system. He wanted speed at DE and those guys tended to be smaller. It wasn't necessarily a recruiting failure as much as a difference between what VT wanted at the position vs what the NFL wanted at the position.
A lot of the DEs under Bud would have been DEs I the NFL if they were born 10+ years later
He'll probably put up some gaudy numbers against the G-5 level competition he'll face week in and week out in the ACC after having played legit P-5 competition the last three years.
I'm willing to settle for "NCAA14 Road to Glory mode on Heisman difficulty" numbers.
48 sacks a year is a bit much
