72 Seasons did not disappoint during my workout this morning. Very happy I bought a vinyl copy (which is still 5 days from showing up apparently). I'm just disappointed that Metallica isn't touring anywhere close to me this year.

Song of the year right here.....

Jack Black will go down as one of this generation's greatest lyricists. From some of his OG work in Bio-Dome to this, nobody can touch his lyrical talent.

2022 album, Hygiene, but currently on tour, if you get a chance to see Drug Church, I highly recommend it. Saw them at Elevation 27 in Virginia Beach last month

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Saw them with Thrice a few years ago and loved them. They have been in my listening rotation ever since.

Thrice will always get a leg from me even though they've fallen out of my general rotation as my tastes have changed

Finally saw the Screaming Females live in Richmond a couple weeks back. It was everything I had hoped for. I wish I would have seen them at the camel a few years back or with the Menzingers in the fall though.

HOPE - NF

Amazing album. Happy is a fantastic song. I know hip hop isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's a really well written album. If you have followed NF at all since his first album his evolution as an artist and as a human.

"GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM LITTLE BROTHER, THE CUP IS COMIN’ ON HOME!”

Never heard of NF but gave this a listen. Really enjoyed it and will probably go back through his entire catalog.

I've followed him since day 1. His earlier work is much darker, more melancholy but still relatable. In my opinion The Search is his best album. He's very open about his mental health struggles, which I really appreciate and connect with personally.

"GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM LITTLE BROTHER, THE CUP IS COMIN’ ON HOME!”

Better Lovers! New band from former Every time I Die members and Dillinger Escape Plan members. First single 30 under 13 is killer. Up there with Sleep Token for way too early album of the year candidates.

Was just coming to post about this one...sooo good!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Not sure how coincidental this is but I got a notice yesterday for Underoath's Summer tour featuring The Ghost Inside, We Came as Romans, and Better Lovers. They are making a stop in Baltimore on July 29th, and I just bought my tickets.

Can't believe that tour isn't making a single stop in VA or NC 😡

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Some favorite albums so far in '23 each with a YouTube link to a favorite track:

Death Valley Girls - Islands in the Sky

Margo Price - Strays

Altin Gün - Ask

White Reaper - Asking for a Ride

Deerhoof - Miracle-Level

Looking forward to Bully's upcoming too.

Also I bought a copy of the rerepressing of Kumoyo Island and I could not be more excited.

Update, it's beautiful:

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

Ruston Kelly's new album "The Weakness" 🔥 🔥 🔥

Vroom Vroom

Turnpike Troubadours are dropping a new single "Mean Old Sun" here soon...super pumped about the prospect of a new album.

Metallica's 72 Seasons: I like it. Some pretty decent riffs on it.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I'm sure you saw but youre getting your wish. I saw Turnpike in like 2014 and I've been in love ever since.

Greta Van Fleet are spreading their sonic wings.

Meeting the Master

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I was all aboard on the original album, but the follow up was kinda "meh" and I'm getting the same vibes from this track. I also am stunned that they are playing arenas now - they are playing at Capital One arena in DC in September and seats are costing what you would expect for an arena show, but I didn't think GVF was capable of commanding ticket values like this. Or maybe they are way more popular than I thought.

I like them...don't love em, but a solid like. I don't mind the Led comparison( because if you sound like arguably the greatest rock band of all time...that's a good thing) though it's extremely warranted. What bothers me is the stage presence...that's a little too on the nose. Tone it down a bit, boys lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

And that was part of the turn off for me. I felt like they were doing too much to project an image rather than the music. The sound like Zep, look like Zep... and it makes the whole package look unoriginal.

Band I'm playing with from Lex Vegas Va. Think this is our best song. Someone connected ask Pry what he thinks.

Other favorite song from our set list. This is about Nelson County, VA where most of my family comes from.

Right up my alley, fwiw.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Not *new* but I wanted to share - I saw Skinny Puppy last week and holy F*^&* was that a great show. This is very likely their last tour (aptly name "The Final Tour") but for those of you not on the East Coast that happen to like their music (in any capacity) - you owe it to yourself to find a way to go see them if they are coming by your town.

Did not realize they were still around

"Give me a fu¢king beer", Anonymous Genius

Still around, but if this tour lives up to the name this will be it for them. The two core members are in their 60s now, but you wouldn't have known that from the show they put on.

Not new, it's old. But it needs to be heard.

Saw them at a music festival in Speyer, Germany when I was in the army in early 70s. They were great, but there was a really big rainstorm on Sat. night and the music stopped for a couple of hours and most of us turned in. At the stroke of midnight, though, the opening line of Black Sabbath and "I am Iron Man" had the whole campground waking up and shuffling like zombies out of our camps toward the stage. Not a big Sabbath fan, but I can still hear those opening chords to this day more than 50 years later. Also had Rory Gallagher, Rod Stewart and a ton of other bands my aging brain just cannot recall, but Deep Purple was one of my favorites at the time and I was thrilled to see them.

Edit: OK, aging brain can still fire up the Googler to fact check my faded memory. Firstly, Rod and the Faces were on the bill but didn't play. Also in the line up, billed as a British band thing, were Beggars Opera, Curved Air, East of Eden, Fairport Convention, Gentle Giant, Juicy Lucy, Osibisa and Fleetwood Mac. The festival was in 1971, and something I read said Sabbath started at 2 am, but it was a hell of a festival. And if you haven't heard of most of these bands, don't fret, I haven't heard of most of the bands mentioned on this site either.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Avenged sevenfold new album comes out next month. That's what I'm currently waiting on

I must have read a thousand faces
I must have robbed them of their cause
Sickened thirst, Sickened thirst
Keeps it together
Soft white glow in the cranium
A bullseye made sedated

I love A7X! I'm kind of anxious about the release though lol so far I can't tell if I like the two new singles or not...maybe it'll take a few listens to really get them

It took me about 40+ listens for nobody to think it was decent but we love you took only 5 for me to start loving it. Nobody is really plain Jane until the guitar solo comes into the end(which is a really good solo) but I was looking for a little bit more. But I love the energy of We love you and also it got very catchy the more I listened to it 😂

I must have read a thousand faces
I must have robbed them of their cause
Sickened thirst, Sickened thirst
Keeps it together
Soft white glow in the cranium
A bullseye made sedated

I agree on We Love You. Did you watch the 360 VR music video for it? That was pretty sweet!

Nah. But its because I don't have a vr headset 🥺

I must have read a thousand faces
I must have robbed them of their cause
Sickened thirst, Sickened thirst
Keeps it together
Soft white glow in the cranium
A bullseye made sedated

I don't have a VR headset either lol I was just scrolling around with my thumb on my phone screen. It still was super cool

I don't have much in the way of new music to chat about as 2023 has been mostly spent discovering older stuff that I missed in the last few years. However I got a metric ton of concerts that I've got tickets for.

Upcoming shows:
-Gaslight Anthem (tomorrow!!!) w/Oso Oso and Emily Wolfe
-Matchbox 20
-All American Rejects/New Found Glory/The Starting Line/Get Up Kids
-Matt Maeson
-All Time Low w/ Mayday Parade
-Trivium w/Beartooth
-Thrice if I can find tickets that aren't stupid expensive.
-Haven't bought tickets yet, but Snoop Dogg is coming to town and even though I haven't listened to any new Snoop in *checks notes* decades, I'm sure it'll be a fun night.
-Just found out that Converge and Brutus are headed to Greensboro so I might have to look into that.

However the most out of left field, yet awesome news is that Marvelous 3 is back together. They're releasing an album, pressing old ones, and have a run of shows in Atlanta that I strongly considered travelling to make happen. Never expected that in a million years.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Make sure to make it in to catch Oso Oso, they're worth seeing live.

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

Same here, I have tickets to five concerts (so far) for this summer and fall, all at different venues:

Matchbox 20 - Xfinity Center, Mansfield (originally scheduled of 2021)
Lyle Lovett & His Large Band - Plymouth Memorial Hall
Train - Cape Cod Melody Tent
Zac Brown Band - Fenway Park
Little Feat - Wilbur Theater, Boston

For Feat, my 3 oldest friends (two of them are Hokies) are flying up from GA and FL for it. All of us went to their concert at Lisner Auditiorium in August 77 where they partially recorded Waiting for Columbus.

Great lineup there, man. I'm jealous.

How was Gaslight Anthem? Their album Get Hurt helped me get through the worst breakup of my life, and I've always wanted to see them.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Now that is a wide range of music styles

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Anyone listen to Mammoth WVH?

WVH = Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie (and Valerie Bertinelli)

I recently discovered the self-titled album and I'm looking forward to the follow-up coming out in August. Looks like they're doing some shows with Metallica on tour right now.

Yuuuup. Saw them live a couple months ago when they opened up for Alter Bridge. Really good stuff.

Avenged sevenfold dropped a new single today. Called we love you

I must have read a thousand faces
I must have robbed them of their cause
Sickened thirst, Sickened thirst
Keeps it together
Soft white glow in the cranium
A bullseye made sedated

I assume you are tracking the "new" Ghost that is about to drop on the 19th. Lots of cover stuff (7 tracks i think)

Scar Symmetry following up with Part 2 of their "The Singularity" album trilogy next month. Just put out some new singles, and I'm really digging this one:

Anyone else get their faces melted off by Zach Bryan on his latest tour?

Vroom Vroom

I had major FOMO not winning the Charlottesville lottery, but after seeing videos, I probably would've been annoyed the whole time by the crowd singing along.

It's cool, glad people are into it and know all the words, and it definitely beats the Taylor Swift crowds screaming the whole time, but if I buy a ticket, I paid to hear the artist, not the crowd.

It was one of the best shows I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of shows over multiple genres. I didn't really hear people singing over top of him at all

I was at the Charlottesville show. It was pretty awesome! Hadn't been to a bigger arena show like that before.
I've been on a big concert roll this year. Reed Southall, Muscadine Bloodline, Morgan Wade, Charles Wesley Godwin, Flatland Cavalry, Zach Bryan. Got Shania, Eric Church, Matchbox Twenty and Koe Wetzel this summer/early fall.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

As you and I have discussed, I may finally get the chance to fish with one of my favorite artists these days. For those that don't know about him, Tyler Childers is the real deal. Hope I'm not too star struck to pay attention to the fish. He and his wife and band will be around next month visiting a friend of mine and fishing is definitely on the agenda. And I know, pictures or it didn't happen!

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Awesome! Glad that is happening. Hope the fish cooperate.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

Yeah, I do too. Not much happening hereabouts yet this spring. A couple here, couple there, but a lot of good fishermen are catching few or none so far. It'll be fun to hang out with Tyler for a while, but we'll all have more fun if the fish come to the show.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Shows I'm going to so far...

TALK/Milky Chance/Young the Giant
War on Drugs
Sylvan Esso/ Bon Iver

I'm going to see Incubus next week and which I'd already be excited about but somehow Coheed is opening for them! It's going to be amazing.

Just saw Coheed a couple of weeks ago. They are sooooo good live.

What a savings

And there's a chance that things'll get weird
Yeah, that's a possibility

Yeah, I saw them a few years ago with The Story So Far (also amazing) and Taking Back Sunday. I'm pretty amped.

Hardly new anymore but finally got to see Zach Bryan live. Top notch show and incredibly fun night just wish I was able to make it to any of his shows before he was "coliseum" big.

(add if applicable) /s

I was able to make it to any of his shows before he was "coliseum" big.

My SIL and BIL were talking about seeing Zack Bryan pre-pandemic. Around the same time, my wife and I just discovered Noah Kahan when he was opening for James Bay (2018ish?). It's been pretty cool to watch those two come into their own as musicians nearing super-stardom.

Twitter me

Yeah that's incredible he hardly left the PNW in 2017 when I was trying to find him playing somewhere while living in Nebraska. By 2018 he was in Oklahoma I think and traveling quite a bit more east but I also moved to SC and lost track of everywhere he was playing. Got to see Tyler Childers in a bar 2016-17 range for a $20 cover...the next year he was in massive venues and he's coming to Charleston this year lowest price to get in the door is $245

Chevelle is starting to make music for a new album 👀😎

Theo Katzman's "Be The Wheel" came out in March and i got to see him perform live a few weeks ago at Terminal 5 in manhattan -- he is a really talented musician and songwriter but hooooooooey are his live performances head-and-shoulders-and-waist-and-knees above the studio recordings

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Josiah and the Bonnevilles. Guy has a great voice came out with a single a few weeks ago that blows all of his other music out of the water called Basic Channels.

For people that like the folkier side of Childers, Bryan, Simpson. Kinda a caamp meets Flatland Calvery?

Love all of them, thanks for the rec.

The new Avenged sevenfold album drops in a Hourish. Will give my opinion after my first listen and then my 20th listen 😂🤘

I'm starting with it now during lunch lol will have to finish later...3 tracks in I feel like I'm kind of tasting the genius a little bit haha

I like the album but I know some oldschool A7X fans that are gonna absolutely hate it 😂

Oh a Fun fact. Apparently Easier is a demo from 2007. So technically The rev is on the album 😤
