NFL Combine - Virginia Tech: Who got snubbed?

So it appears only four Hokies received invites to the NFL Combine this year:

These are the four
Antone Exum, DB
Kyle Fuller, DB
James Gayle, DL
Logan Thomas, QB

ESPN Article with List of All Invitees

My question to you is of the other Seniors from this years squad, who surprises you the most that they did not receive an invite?

Seniors per the roster this season
Trey Gresh
Derrick Hopkins
D.J. Coles
J.R. Collins
Tariq Edwards
Tony Gregory
Andrew Miller
Jack Tyler
Tyrel Wilson

If I had to put my Top Three Snubs out there, I think it would be this:
1) Derrick Hopkins
2) Jack Tyler
3) J.R. Collins

Since it has been asked a few times, I figured I would update it here:
Regardless of an invite to the combine, all of these seniors are eligible to get drafted or sign as free agents in the NFL once the draft has concluded. The combine just gives them a focused opportunity to perform in front of scouts prior to the draft. There are Regional Combines and some players get qualified from those to go to higher level combine activities. They also have the Pro Day that Virginia Tech will hold to impress scouts. I do think that Hopkins and Tyler have a shot at getting drafted. I think Collins, Edwards and Miller are all 7th Round bubble guys, all dependent on what a team needs. All three will likely sign as Free Agents if not drafted. I don't know what I think of Coles chances. He has the physical gifts to play up there but the injury bug may just be too great for it to happen.

Nailed it.

Agree, you nailed it. I'm unsure if they have no chance. I would think that Free agency is not excluded by not being invited to the combine... Anybody?

I believe free agency is not at all dependent on being invited to the combine. If you submitted to the NFL your paperwork and you are eligible for the draft, and the draft days comes and goes with no team picking you up, then you automatically become a free agent to which you are free to sign with any team that offers you.

If a player does not receive an invite to the combine, does that essentially mean that they have no chance of being drafted? I think Hopkins could definitely make a squad, agree with your list there. Wish he had gotten another chance to show his stuff.

My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush

He can still be drafted, he can also attend the Regional Combines and qualify up to higher combines to improve his draft stock.

Tariq Edwards has the potential to be the next James Anderson in the NFL. A unheralded yet solid starter for some of the league's best defenses.

I think you are right. I am sure his injury problems have hurt his stock but he has a unique skill set. At the very least he can be a special teams contributor until he picks up the NFL game.

not cool
Definitely the three you mentioned as well as Edwards and Miller.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Seeing that FSU-MD score really makes me wince though....

I was trying to repress that memory.

You have something against palindromes?

I see what you did there.

And no, I don't...their cool. We had one good one (VT-Miami score).

Why is this guy yelling "Push it!"?? weird...

I agree with the 3 snubs; those guys deserve a shot for further evaluation in the Combine. I see those guys as getting signed as undrafted free agents with a pretty good chance at making a team. I see Edwards and Coles probably making practice squads somewhere to see if they can work their way up. I bet NFL scouts are still leery of Coles' health. He's got some good physical tools, but if he's not going to be 100%, they probably won't take the risk.

Agree. Same.

Tyler
Collins
Along with probably Edwards and maybe Miller.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

Miller's versatility and toughness will work in his favor. Injury history may hurt him but for the most part he played through things.

Hopkins and Tyler both got snubbed. Those kids can play at an NFL level, definitely.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Couldn't say any better. Tariq Edwards is also a good player who got snubbed.

Packers have a similar player to Hopkins in Mike Daniels who is undersized but was great in the sub package with 6.5 sacks on the year. Would love the Pack to develop Hopkins the same way :)

#AllTheHokiesOnThePackers. Whats your opinion on B.J. Raji? Think we keep him??

Go pack go! I honestly don't think he is worth the amount he wants based on his play this year BUT since our depth is so thin and it's hard to find men that size and lane clogging ability we might have no choice but to pay the man especially with how terrible the defense was last year...

unfortunately true. Or you use a first round pick and hope he plays from the start.

If we only didn't have 5 other needs on defense I would vote for this lol

Hopkins and Tyler. But I honestly don't expect much from them in the league.

I can see Hopkins on a roster, Tyler not much chance. Best case for him practice squad.
