Virginia Tech Mount Rushmore of DB.

Virginia Tech does not have a Mount Rushmore for its DBs, but considering all the great DBs that have played at the University, the school should think of creating one. Creating and selecting who to put on the Mount Rushmore could be difficult.
In your opinion, what are the top 4 DBs of all time would you select to put on a Virginia Tech Mount Rushmore?

1-Kam Chancellor

4-Brandon Fayson

I'm a huge Facyson fan and think he could be up there when it's all said and done but it's way too early to even think about him being in the top 4.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Jayron Hosley
Kendall Fuller
Kam Chancellor
D. Hall

^i Strongly disagree
Frank Beamer (dont forget he played DB for us)
Torian Gray (Same as Beamer)
Kam Chancellor (major factor in winning a super bowl)
4th is kinda up in the air...maybe D-Hall, Eric Green, Keon Carpenter, Macho....Can make a case for a lot of people here

for mine i considered more than just their playing here at tech, i also considered what they did for the game of football and for VT after they left

They'll really get after ya

After another 2-3 years you can go ahead and reserve a spot for Kendall. Heck, let's put Mr. And Mrs. Fuller on it.

#TouchdownTech

its not just what they did in college, kendall would have to go on to nfl and do great things there. So not just in 2-3 years to unseat my rushmore :P

They'll really get after ya

You got a good point there. It's way too early to put Kendall on the top 4 list.

Allen Ox

Frank Beamer is a great coach. But he will be the first one to tell you he wasnt the greatest DB in VT history.

Allen Ox

My list isnt just based on their playing at tech, it encompasses the person as a whole. what they did after they were players

They'll really get after ya

Flowers, Loria, Hall and Williams.

Are we talking about at VT or overall? That would yield a different result between jimmy Williams and jam chancellor. Jimmy was far superior in O&M.

Then you have the two impact candidates: Beamer and Gray. Neither make it on their play.

I would also nominate Tyrone Drakeford, first team AA. Drakeford and Hosley just miss the top 4. All three Fullers are next. Eric Green. willie Pile. Anthony Midget. Antone. Macho. Carpenter.

1. D. Hall
2. Macho
3. Kam
4. Flowers

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

1. Macho
2. De-lo
3. Coach Gray
4. Kam

They messed up when they came down 81.

I love Kam and am glad he's turned into a great pro, but at the college level he only achieved 2nd team all ACC. No way he would be in the top 4 based on his career at Tech. Flowers, Macho, and Hosley were more effective DBs in college, with the later two having the added bonus as excellent special teams returners.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

1) Coach Beamer
2) Coach Gray
3) Mrs. Fuller
4) open

NLT necessarily in that order.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

One thing for #4, Danny Coale was a WR, not a DB

It's not a list without Flowers and DeAngelo.

Kam is a better pro than college player.

In no particular order:
1. Brandon Flowers
2. DeAngelo Hall
3. Jimmy Williams
4. Willie Pile

Kyle Fuller would be next, best 4-year achiever.

I like your list the best, but i think willie pile has to be replaced with Jayron. At least as far as their time at VT goes. Additionally, to some of those with Kam on their list... I am a huge Bam Bam Kam fan, but as far as his time at tech goes he was wildly inconsistent.

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

Upon further review for their time at tech I would go Brandon Flowers, Deangelo Hall, Jayron Hosley, and Macho Harris. Crazy that beamer had more ints at VT than D Hall http://www.hokiesports.com/football/records/interceptions.html

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

Nobody was dumb enough to throw at Deangelo. That's where a lot of Eric Green's picks came from.

"I'll put a quote here to distract you from my inane comment."-Me

Jayron had one spectacular year. Wasn't the same player his junior year, also missed time that year due to injury. Also wasn't much of a factor his freshman year outside of the return game until the bowl game.

I was a little shocked honestly that it took about 10 or so posts in before someone said Flowers.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

Guy that could even be considered

1) Jimmy Williams
2) Brandon Flowers
3) Kam Chancellor
4) Kyle/Vincent Fuller
5) Macho Harris
6) Jayron Hosley
7) Antone Exum
8) Deangelo Hall
9) Eric Green
10) Aaron Rouse
11) Roc Charmichael
12) Willie Pile
13) Cory Bird
14) Big Play Torrian Gray
15) Antonio Banks

Is this your order? I didnt even think about Rouse, but he was a monster. Additionally, I think Garnell Wilds is worthy of a top 15.

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

Can't be his order, nobody would have dLo 8th.

Are you not considering Loria? Consensus AA in1967 (back when VT got zero attention from the media), one of four retired numbers, led team to 1966 Liberty Bowl. Beamer admits Loria would be the coach at VT right now if he didn't die in the Marshall crash.

To me, the three easy ones are Loria, Hall and Flowers. Then I think you can debate Jimmy vs Hosley.

Agreed. Loria was the first great DB at Tech. Gotta put him up there.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Glad someone mentioned Cory Bird. Maybe he isn't top 4 but that guy was a monster on the field while at VT. I would last as follows:
1. D. Hall
2. B. Flowers
3. M. Harris
4. J. Williams

Win one for the Beamer...

What about the all-time interceptions leader? I haven't seen him mentioned yet!

1. Torrian Gray
2. Torrian Gray
3. Torrian Gray
4. Torrian Gray

Sculpted, written and directed by Torrian Gray.

1. Loria, started the tradition
2. Jimmy Williams, one of our few unanimous All-Merican' players
3. B. Flowers, my favorite hokie defensive player of all time.
4. Macho Harris, his name is Macho.

1) Mr. and Mrs. Fuller
2) Torrian Gray
3) Macho Harris and Brandon Flowers (Hard to Seperate)
4) Jayron Hosley
*Jimmy Williams would have been on the list had he not used 'banned substances.'

Vincent Fuller
Kyle Fuller
Kendall Fuller
Mrs. Fuller

Flowers
Loria
Jimmy Williams
Keion Carpenter

Arent we all forgetting that ALL TIME GREAT "Cartoons Plural"!!!

But in all seriousness I think as has been said before Loria needs to be in any discussion, that the man was able to attract such honors in the dark days of VT football speaks to his ability and drive, a succession of him, then Beamer or team as coaches would have been very interesting to see!

Coach Gray should absolutely get some credit for recruiting and coaching such great DBs. As a player and a coach, his name should be listed on the Mount Rushmore.

Allen Ox

If we're talking about which players belong on this list based on their production at VT, I'd have to go:

1) Brandon Flowers
2) Jimmy Williams
3) Deangelo Hall
4) Kyle Fuller

If we went with their production in the league:

1) Kam Chancellor
2) Brandon Flowers
3) Deangelo Hall
4) Torrian Gray, I guess? Nick Sorensen? Vincent Fuller?

If we go by my favorites:

1) Kam
2) Flowers
3) Kyle Fuller
4) Torrian Gray

I do understand the Beamer and Loria deserve spots on this list, but beyond knowing that they did play for VT back in the day, I know little about their playing days and am far too young to have ever been exposed to their play.

Loria
Drakeford
Macho Harris
Brandon Flowers

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

Making my list from the time I was at VT on. Freely admit I didn't follow VT before I arrived as a freshman engineer.

D. Hall
Brandon Flowers
Jimmy Williams
Macho Harris or Vinny Fuller

Loria
Drakeford
D. Hall
Jimmy Williams

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

This wins! Very nice list right here.

If the school were ever to create such a "Mount Rushmore," I think they should aim higher than than the Borglums did and find a granite surface big enough to sculpt 15-20 heads. Put em all up there.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

1. D. Hall
2. Hosley
3. KC
4. Macho

Honorable mention
1. Ky. Fuller
2. Keion Carpenter
3. Flowers
4. Green

This was tough but I was definitely factoring in play, records (Macho and Hosley for INTs) and pro (D.Hall, KC & Flowers all made pro bowls and playoffs).

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Fosterball

Give ASHLEY LEE some LOVE !

Folks, Kam Chancellor was not a good Safety during his time at VT. I'm very happy he has become an All Pro, but I remember watching him miss too many tackles and be out of position on too many occasions to put him on a list of the top DB's to wear a Hokie uniform.

1. DHall (unfortunately. I hate to acknowledge his Hokie ties).
2. Macho
3. Keion Carpenter
4. Brandon Flowers

Can make an argument for Loria, Banks, J. Williams, Jayron

Well, maybe he's not one of the best DBs in Tech history but saying that he wasn't good at Tech is ridiculous. He put fear into opponents eyes, I remember during the 09 UVA game he hit one of UVA's RBs so hard on one play that on the next play he looked up and saw Kam and just fumbled in fear of getting jacked up again. He wasn't the best cover guy, but he had that intimidation factor and intimidation is a huge thing especially in football. Welcome to the site by the way!

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Kam played a lot of FS at Tech, probably out of necessity. He never was a true FS, and that much was evident.

You see that he plays SS in the League. I always thought he should have played ROV for Bud since that was more suited to his size and skills.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

First String:
D-Hall
Brandon Flowers
Kyle Fuller
Cory Bird

Second String:
Macho
Jimmy Williams
Kam
Aaron Rouse

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Deangelo Hall, Brandon Flowers, Kyle Fuller, Macho Harris.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

If you are taking this to follow a strict Mt Rushmore philosophy then I would think you need founding fathers. Then I would an order like this:

1) Loria
2) Gene Bunn
3) Beamer
4) Gray (with Billy Hardee Jr. only just missing out)

If you are talking about just simply the best of the best of DBU then I would think contemporary players somewhat trump the older players because the speed, skill and technical understanding of the game is vastly different than when the founding fathers played. I would then say:

1) Flowers
2) Hall
3) Williams
4) Kyle Fuller

There have been a lot of great ones outside looking in Pile, Macho, Charlton, Kam, etc but I think these 4 performed better and most importantly more consistently than any of the others. The first 3 I think are non-debatable but I put Kyle on the list because I feel that not only was he a shutdown corner for VT, he, unlike the others, being so naturally good at what he does was able to play whip and stopped GT cold twice almost single handily (watch that first game again. Kyle is a wrecking machine against the 3-Op offense). I would argue his tackling and coverage, especially to knock balls down, is perhaps the best I have EVER seen at Virginia Tech. As a coach you had the luxury to either leave him on his island and play ten man football, or use him to pass rush, spy or play out of position to wreak havoc. Dude was a beast of dependency.

Mine goes
1) D-Hall
2) Flowers
3) Macho
4) Hosley

"Now Miami wants to talk about it." *Cue Enter Sandman*
