USA Today Public School Revenue Released For 2021-2022 FY

https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances (Public Schools only)

  • Virginia Tech comes in at 38th with ~113,000,000. 6th out of the ACC schools (in order, UVA, FSU, Clemson, LU, UNC, VT)
  • Louisville, UVA, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, and Missouri are examples of "just cuz you have money doesnt mean you'll be good
  • Cincinatti, Houston, JMU, San Diego State, and Coastal Carolina are examples of "just cuz you dont have money doesnt mean you can't be good

Obviously context (conference affiliation and schedule) plays a part into a school's record and amount of money they make, but if Houston and San Diego State lined up against UVA and Indiana, pretty sure UH and SDSU would be favored.

EDIT: This is athletics only, not academics. Also editing that this is for the 22 Fiscal Year

Public schools only correct? And this looks like all revenue sources, not just athletics.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

yes, public schools only

Also doesn't include Pitt or PSU.

PSU is on there at 9th overall with ~$181,000,000 for FY22. But I don't see Pitt, which is weird...but at this site (College Factual) They list Pitt at ~$99,000,000 for FY22, which would put them around 50th overall.

They'll really get after ya

The Pitt and PSU money is either delayed reported or only partially reported.

Thus all came into the public sphere after scandal. But they still don't have to report everything and much of their money reports on these other sites come only after tax filings etc.

Pitt is unable to give an accurate yearly revenue amount due to the amount of additional salt Narduzzi requires heading into the winter months....

Chris Coleman posted a snippet from the BOV meeting that showed us at $121m so what gives?

It's unwise to suggest that revenue and on-field success aren't related...

  • The top 6 recruiting teams are all in the top 10 of revenue. Every team in the top 10 revenue is in the top 15 of recruiting. You could maybe make a chicken/egg argument, but these two things are not unrelated.
  • Anyone will agree that while revenue does not guarantee success, it surely helps. It provides more margin for error - make a bad hire? You can move on quickly by paying the buyout, and pay for the best available HC.
  • Your examples for teams that are not rich AND good are... debatable? Only one of those schools has had sustained success near the top of the sport (Cincinatti).
  • Also worth noting, this is athletic dept level, not necessarily football level. While Cincy athletics is spending ~$30m less per year than VT, they are spending $10m less on football than us, ~$900k less than us on salaries (source).

It was more of a sarcastic poke than actual fact stating xD
