I like the Fighting Gobbler on the helmet. Wish it was Maroon.
I fuller support maroon helmet with fighting gobbler. They look so good from a distance. This helmet? I don't know if I can endorse it. On the one hand, it represents VT, which is good. On the other hand it is chrome, which is not to my liking. On the other other hand, no one gives a shit what I think and at least one player likes them.

Yep, I ordered the maroon helmet version decals from this guy to make my own matte mini helmet. Pride of Hawaiian Sports is the name of the place that sells this.
I'll just say we have worn worse.
Too bad VT retired the fighting gobbler logo, so that's definitely not gonna happen. I would love it though...

Don't like the chrome and they're ridiculously expensive. I want to see a matte maroon.
Excellent idea for player safety. By using other players' helmets as mirrors, blind hits would be eliminated.
For me, the problem with that logo last time it was on the maroon helmets was it kinda just looked like an orange blob on tv.
From far away, yes, but with HD TVs and the amount that broadcasters love to zoom in on specific players, it wouldn't take long for people to realize what they were looking at. Plus, if we came out in something like this, I'm sure the commentators would spend a decent chunk of time talking about them. Hey, anything to get noticed, right?
Not at the cost. I would rather our play on the field got us noticed than bling.
Look at Maryland.
Maryland's just doing it wrong. As much as it pains me to say it, since I love our blue-collar, lunchpail-D approach, but a little flash every once in a while probably wouldn't hurt, especially on the recruiting trail. That said, you're absolutely right. The difference between Oregon's and Maryland's "flash" is that Oregon makes their unis look sweeter by running past everyone else on the field. If you're gonna look flashy, better back it up on the field.
The chrome is a waste of money to me. Not a fan of the look and you pay twice as much.
I still remember my first time driving around campus on a senior HS trip to check out the campus. No idea what a Hokie was and driving past the old stadium. Mom and I brought the car to a screeching halt, looking up at Lane Stadium, Home of the Fighting Gobblers. We turned to each other and said "their turkey's!" So I have no problem with the old style mascot emblem.

I'm lazy so I didn't bother reading through everyone's posts..so forgive me if I repeat something here
1. Chrome is cool and several teams are doing it
2. VT
doesn'tshouldn't do chrome just because it's the cool thing to do...we should stick with Maroon3. IF we're going to do Chrome, maroon seems like a much more appropriate contrasting color than..orange..
4. I like the old school gobbler, but something just seems wrong about trying to marry the old gobbler with the new chrome...let's not do that..if we're going to do chrome, we should just slap a big ol' maroon VT on the side.
Ultimately, what I think doesn't matter..if it gets the players excited and they want to get out there and wear those helmets, by all means make it happen. I personally would love for VT to stick to a single helmet, 1 away uniform, and 1 home uniform(preferably #allmarooneverything) and just go play some hard nosed, physical, mans football. We shouldn't be concerned about how we look..we should be concerned with winning.

Personally, I don't like chrome helmets at all. But I like when VT wins best of all. So if the flashy uniforms and chrome helmets help attract talent to VT, and they produce on the field, I really don't mind.
Well now that we're on the subject...
Keep the same design as our current. Maroon chrome dome. Plain chrome logo (possibly oversized to look 'cool') with orange chrome trim. Have Nike special design one of their super badass uniform sets (all maroon, naturally). Promote the everliving hell out of it to any and all recruits that think about VT.
Bask in the positive chatter around the college football world such a uniform set would create.
So basically:
1) make a new, but same, helmet
2) ???
3) profit

Yes, but I was told by my graduate school professors that writing "a.m.o." (A Miracle Occurred) is not an acceptable way to solve problems.
I would do dirty, dirty things with those helmets, and not at all regret it the next morning.
