"It's the hope that kills you" should be our slogan. I'm excited to see how we look under Ange once the team really clicks and understands what he wants them to do. I didn't see much of the game at all but Maddison and Bissouma both look like they'll be amazing in this team.

I bet that MU win felt soooooooo good - four points after GW2 is a really good return after BRE and MU
I wonder if the collective team feels a bit more (enabled, pressured, open to) being more aggressive in attack, in the mindset that Kane isn't there anymore so they can't just rely on him to do his usual magic, so "might as well be me" that goes and gets some lol

It felt great. The goals for Tottenham this season have been scored by 3 defenders, Man U had an own goal (thought they might credit Davies, a 4th defender, with it). I'm looking forward to what happens when goals flow from the front three.

Yeah kind of what I was alluding to - everyone feeling like they gotta go get involved and not wait on Kane.
I went back and read some of my thoughts on last season - I said after GW1: TOT def gonna score a lotta goals. Conte has his system, those outside backs were humming - Sessegnon could have had a hat trick
Win some lose some: TOT finished 4th in goals scores, Sess had 2 all season. Team finished 4th.... but def were a pretty different team after the winter / WC break

You can tell there is a huge change with Kane gone - it does seem like there is a weight off the other players shoulders. They definitely look like they are having fun out on the pitch.

Everyone in Scotland was shocked when I told them I am a Newcastle supporter, but when I told them it goes back 30 years to the Shearer days they got it. And a lot of Scots have a soft spot for Newcastle since it's the northernmost prem team and easiest for them to get to from Edinburgh.

Fucking hell. Honestly, losing Mings hurts worse than the scoreline. We were shit after he went off, and we likely won't see him again this season. Congrats on the win, just over here adjusting expectations for the season...

It was very fun to watch Spurs dominate United in the second half yesterday. I can't remember the last time we controlled the middle of the pitch. Big Ange is cooking.

I don't know what devil deal elapsed with Gallagher but he's been a totally different player on CHE, and dreadful today. Gave up the corner then allowed the goal from it with super soft defending and very little offensively. Think Lavia coming for his spot
Gutted for Chuk, his knee didn't look good as he left
JWP though played outstanding speaking of former Saints

The more I see Spurs the weirder it is to me how much Conte misused/didn't use Bissouma last season. I squealed when he did his backheel nutmeg to Udogie this weekend. Spurs are fun again and I am so glad.

Villa is having terrible injury luck. Mings and Buendia probably gone for the season, Moreno and Ramsey and Dendoncker out since before preseason, Countinho hurt so he's not playing due to injury instead of the normal reason that he's a shell of his former self, Emi Martinez out today. Even a player we were trying to sign (Acuna) got hurt and nixed the transfer. Lucky Southgate refuses to pick Villa players or I'd be more worried about the upcoming international break.

Spurs under Ange feels and looks like a completely different team. Good vibes, good football, and seems like they're really enjoying things. James Maddison is incredible and exactly what this team had been missing for years.

I regret admitting I was a huge Conte believer. How he mishandled Bissouma was the worst crime committed by an Italian at the club during his tenure. Ange has been a breath of fresh air.
And how about the way the back 4 has played thus far?

I definitely think we'll concede goals at some point soon but the defense has been better than expected thus far. Vicario has also seemed like a great signing.

Conte wasn't the right fit. He needs a pretty specific type of squad construction for him to work his league magic in terms of tactics and formation. I think Conte is a great manager, but unless he has a squad that is tailored to him, or the backing to turnover the squad to get what he wants in and out, it's not going to work. There are a lot of big clubs that haven't pulled the trigger on him for these reasons. Some clubs aren't willing to let one man totally turnover the squad in such a way that the next manager will likely have to undo.
Ange appears to be an excellent fit and hire so far. I've enjoyed watching them play.

The thing is, he had the squad humming to secure the fourth Champions League spot. Had the same talent back. Added new talent. And he decided to play some painfully negative football. I still don't understand it.

So happy for Richarlison after a few tough weeks : comes on in the 80' and gets game tying goal, game winning assist, and game ending yellow card in the attacking corner lol. Still room for improvement, but what a game!

Restarting the conversation here about Klopp retiring. Frontrunner for that job is obviously Xabi Alonso given his history playing for Liverpool and the success he is currently having as a manager for Bayer Leverkusen. It's going to be damn near impossible filling Klopp's shoes, though. He is comfortably a top 3 manager in the world over the last decade.

It is my opinion, given the difference in resources and squad depth, that Liverpool under Klopp managing to keep pace/stay competitive, and even win a league, against Man City is more impressive than Pep's achievement's at City.
Could have been more than one league as well. 18/19 was more or less won by a Kompany screamer late against Leicester in May. 21/22 was one result by either City or Liverpool away from being a different result as well.
The years they didn't keep pace, 20/21 and 22/23, were due to injuries and the aforementioned difference in depth that Liverpool had relative to Pep's City.
They could have easily won a second CL under Klopp as well against Madrid the second time. Paper-thin margins cost Liverpool a few trophies, but to compete head-to-head with a state backed Oil Club to buy the squad and depth necessary to compete in every competition, every season, for that long with a fraction of the resources is an incredible, and imo, far more impressive achievement.

Thoughts on Liverpool bringing in Arne Slot? It's an interesting hire. He hasn't managed a lot but he's been impressive in the positions he's held so far.

I am ready for Tottenham to hurt me again.
What a season huh? Oh wait that was just the first half. Whew
At least it's exciting and not fucking Conte ball.
Preach! Biss and Maddison were class today. Need few games for everyone to gel tbh
Looks like Harry Kane has moved onto to not winning any trophies of any kind for Bayern Munich.
always nice to see another gunner pop in here :)

Glorious start for the Magpies.

Alas my poor Foxes were relegated. But championship play has started with 2 wins.
uh sir this is the premier league thread
Remember what happened last time the Foxes were in the Championship League. Get those 5000-1 bets ready.
I think it took them like 5 or 6 years to even get promoted to the prem the last time they were in the champsionship
One final time for Jamie!

Wow truly awful decision to not give Wolves a penalty at the end of that game. Onana wasn't even looking at the ball and came in super late.
Wolves had the better chances overall though and definitely should've scored at least one.
Liverpool held onto the draw on the pitch but were absolutely gut-punched in the transfer pool by Chelsea this week. Poor Klopp
Cant wait for him to say some nonsense about not being able to compete financially too lol
Shocking red for Mac Allister. Even in real time it didn't look red worthy. Slowed down absolutely not.

Don't know why Klopp took off Diaz over Gakpo, Cody hasn't been in good form this season IMO and is a tad slow at the moment.
NUNEEEEEZZZZZZZZZ
What did I just watch, and how great is that for Darwin. Glad he was able to prove something to the folks that were mocking him for last season.
Also excited that Virgil isn't available for the Villa match next week!
Hurts not having Virgil or Konate for Villa. Hopefully Gomez and Matip can step up like they did today. Nunez better get the start over Gakpo imo.

As a West Ham fan, I'm just gonna ride this high while it lasts.
Come on you Gunners!!! Woo hoo!!!
What a win! Team never quits, love to see it. Also my sports karma is spent...I shudder to think how badly my other teams will lose this week π€£
So happy for Richarlison after a few tough weeks : comes on in the 80' and gets game tying goal, game winning assist, and game ending yellow card in the attacking corner lol. Still room for improvement, but what a game!
Love that lad.
So...how much longer does Ten Hag have?
Glad we got that warm up against Liverpool in before the real test at Luton.
You needed lots of help to beat Liverpool. Two reds and an own goal, among other things
Can't help that Liverpool was offsides on that goal or picked up clumsy cards.
Yeah I'll be a grammar nazi. Horrible use of VAR. They've been bad all season for all teams but that one is the cherry on top.
Coys! Winning while playing a man down...? π
