- Kyle Fuller and David Wilson getting inducted into the Virginia Tech HOF this weekend at the Purdue game.
- ODU is a great game to build on. This is repeated numerous times when referencing specific player's performances against ODU.
- Gallo out with season ending surgery. Will remain a leader and a captain on the team.
- We will see a 4th TE in the rotation to assist with snap count and injury prevention/preparedness. Mentions Wimbush and Pickett as possibilities.
- Benji got 50 snaps during ODU.
- Run game limited due to ODU 'plusing' the box. Felt like the front had fewer misses this year. Staff has a couple ideas to improve the run game, but Pry didn't get into specifics.
- Thought Tuten and Thomas both played solid games. Didn't miss their reads and were very physical in pass pro. Thought "What more could they have done" as Pry was walking off the field Saturday.
- Attributed the low snaps to cramping issues. Said 4 players needed IVs on Saturday. Idk if I'm buying that one, but time will tell I suppose.
- Pry felt corners weren't challenged enough because we couldn't stop the run. DL played well, but Pry and staff disappointed in LB and safety play.
- Thought Keller played a solid game, but wants him to lead better. Doesn't feel like we need to make defensive adjustments, but that we need to fit our lanes/gaps better.
- To properly defend the air raid we will need to take advantage of matchups and maintain correct alignments in coverage. Personally, I Hope DL can keep the pressure up and help as well.
- Thought Wells played his best game as a Hokie. Expect more Drones packages. Pry said he wants Drones' snap count to be higher.

I'll have to listen once I'm out of this meeting but you're usually great at summarizing these and I hate the sound of this.
Sounds like we're forcing the 2 QB situation more than necessary.
I think he's overselling it to make other teams prepare for it, but maybe they are going to give Drones more reps in hopes it gets the run game going. I don't like the thought of that either, especially after Pry states that he feels Wells played his best game as a Hokie.
My only other thought on this QB rotation is that maybe Pry and Bowen want to use Drones, but he doesn't have the play book down and they are basically extending his spring ball reps as far into the season as they can until it's a liability. Idk it's an odd situation all around.
I do like this line of thought if this is the case. Pretty much anything else that isn't a smoke screen to opposing teams I'm not really excited about. We've got enough inconsistencies going on lets make the pieces as consistent as we can control.
Well said. We can't really afford to get cute with a QB rotation right now.
Yeah not sure what's going on here. I don't think any advantage Drones brings us on the ground outweighs Wells tremendous advantage in the passing game at this stage. Plus Wells is fairly mobile himself. I wonder if this is just to keep Drones engaged/prepared since he's the next man up.
I love it- If they can get it to work. What I mean by that is Drones converting key 3rd downs and extending drives and scoring in the redzone. If the package does that- I love it
So.... predicted outcomes 😀 /s
I thought our RB's were fantastic in pass pro. They stoned quite a few blitzers up the middle.
Drones needs a better package than a screen pass and run up the middle never handing it off. But I was excited his first play was a pass.
Honestly, I liked the call to have the first scrimmage play be a screen - first game of the year, d-line is amped up to hit the QB and dumping a screen over their heads (even though it was incomplete) gave them something to think about.
The LB and safety play is the biggest issue coming out of ODU. Wells threw the ball well and the WRs made an impact - not sure teams are going to sell out like ODU going forward. If they do - feel better than last year that VT can counterpunch in the passing game. The OL is going to get better vs. worse as the season goes on.
Between Pry and Marve - one would hope the LB play can improve. Less concerned about the safeties given their experience.
My thoughts on that are, if they don't sell out to stop the run, our backs are capable enough this year to make them pay for it.
Thanks for doing these write-ups! It's awesome getting the cliff-notes version of these pressers. Great work!
Even better when you throw in an old school TKP joke.
Pry laid it up there for me. I couldn't help myself.
I'm surprised it took so long to have a viable alternative in Blacksburg to Hotel Roanoke. The extra logistical reasons to be in Roanoke and then back in Blacksburg the next day never made sense to me. Just always seemed like an unnecessary trip to make.
Always seemed like one of those things that made sense 20 or so years ago, but has made less and less sense as time went on. Everytime I drove in for a game I was in a little disbelief that the team was dealing with the same traffic before gametime.
To me, this is a good example of Pry questioning everything and challenging the status quo. We talked about this a couple weeks ago. I think it's good that he's not just accepting things because "that's how Beamer did it" or whatever. This is a good sign imo
IIRC it was Beamer's deal to make every game an away game. It worked in its's time, but I agree it seems like a lot of wasted time and expense.
That seems familiar now that you mention it. I also agree that it probably worked well in Beamer's time but just don't see it being worth it now that there are usually a full football team of recruits at each home game.
Plus it was good for drawing in interest in Roanoke, there was always a type of local feeling to it here and lots of discussion with the people in Roanoke.
Tickets bought. Now to cheer on the Hokies!
I will be all over today, so I won't have a breakdown until this evening, but here's the embed for those interested. Seems like a few of his comments have already been discussed in the Fam(ish) thread.
And away we go:
